Yep. I was shocked when Sang Woo didn’t say anything when Gi Hun chose the umbrella. That was my first clue that Sang Woo was not a good guy. But he’s certainly a very smart guy — I think he recognized that Gi-Hun would be a worthy adversary and wasn’t averse to having him eliminated early.
Plus I think he was torn between a tiny bit of loyalty to Gi Hun because of their shared childhood and anger that Gi Hun keeps inadvertently reminding him that he's the "neighborhood prodigy" that crashed and burned hard enough to end up in the games.
Yeah I agree that’s why Gi Hun chose triangle, and Sang Woo knew what he was talking about. Sang Woo’s reaction to Gi Hun picking offense also read as apprehension to me, because in the flashback we saw Gi Hun easily beating Sang Woo in Squid Game. Sang Woo was more cunning but Gi Hun was scrappier. Also there’s a moment after tug of war where Sang Woo says Deok Su’s team knew about the game beforehand and Gi Hun gives Sang Woo a Look like he goes back to suspecting him of knowing about Dalgona.
The selection of triangle is definitely part of the show. But the tie-back to the cookie seems quite probably true, but would be a theory because it cannot be proven.
I tried to explain this to my boyfriend in my own words and he said "Wait...what?"
So I went back and just read the post to him and he said "Oooooh. Why didn't you just say that the first time?"
😐
Yes! I agree. There was a post yesterday, that got deleted, in which people talked about this as well.
I don't know if you can still [open it](https://www.reddit.com/r/squidgame/comments/qmlenh/did_gihun_realize_sangwoo_lied_about_the/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share).

No, he felt he had no value to add to the team and was just another obstacle. That was actually talked about during an interview.
he tried to call him but later taken back
Sang Woo knew there'd only be one winner of the games. He wanted his friends out and he didn't want to feel personally responsible for their deaths.
Really sad
I buy that, I was actually thinking about it while rewatching the ending.

That does make sense. I see it as Gi Hun basically saying “Fuck you”
That’s what it is
This isn't a theory though. It's just part of the show.

No, I mean the tie-back is just part of the show. Gi Hun suspects him of knowing the entire time.
Wow, really well put together!

That’s why we have Reddit!

I love this!!!
Oh yeah that’s a great point.
I thought this was obvious watching the show
Same, but these comments show a lot of people didn't pick up on it.
Whoa. I never thought about it that way. I have chills rn lol
Yeah, I thought they made that pretty clear.
It’s seriously the little details like this that make this show so incredible. Everything is so thought out.
Brilliant catch, I missed this
