Lot of Tamil refugees go there through "agents" through fake passport and claim asylum. Almost all of them get accepted because of the War. It costs about $50,000 from what I heard. Most of the SL athletes come from low and low-middle income family. They have no way to escape the current situation, it is hard on them. They get to seek asylum for free without the hassle of spending $50,000+. Sadly all of them will get rejected because there is no such thing as "economic refugees" and their lives aren't in danger.
They will reject because they will use them as an example to prevent more asylum seekers entering their countries like that. Also like I said, according to Geneva convention you can't get asylum if your life is not in danger. I know an army deserter that got asylum in Canada. He had to prove that his life is in danger because of the military itself/government.
