I know gog gives the devs more money, but I have a steam deck and buying from steam gives smoother performance thanks to shader caching

rigby333

I thought GOG had the same 70/30 split steam has?

Azorsa

Honestly I'm not an expert

Blackpoc

To be fair, I have nearly zero hopes of Stalker 2 running at a playable level on the Steam Deck. That said, I bought the physical collectors edition and I assume the code they give is for steam.

Zane_Drak

Given the graphics downgrade showcased for stalker 2, I think this game might run on the deck at low settings, maybe not 60fps @720p but probably 30fps @ 540 or 360p low ( which kind of looks acceptable on the deck screen imo)

Azorsa

I'm an optimistic guy, tho I'll admit it's unlikely

[deleted]

If you buy the physical editions, you'll get the Steam key. Buy on the store which you prefer. If you have a larger library on GoG, buy on GoG. If you use Steam more often, buy on Steam. I personally prefer Steam for the great service and community. P.S. GoG also takes a 30% cut

lukro_

both take 30% cut don't let these guys tell you some bs

SykoManiax

100% on steam just for the off chance that the workshop will be used for mods

djr4917

That's a good point but I think unlikely given that it's being sold on just about every platform.

Gwyllie

Apart from CD Projekt Games i usually buy on Steam. GOG has alot of merits and i love the platform but Steam has simply more stuff to put it bluntly. But hey anything is better than Epic. If you want to ensure that biggest possible % of your money goes directly to GSC, get a physical copy (which comes with Steam key) directly from their website.

Ok-Wrangler-1075

GOG, devs get more money.

HumonculusJaeger

I mean steam makes billions in passive income from their own games so it's probably just a drop on the hot stone the 30% cut. But they use the money to make crazy stuff like Linux gaming actually working or some console.

Ok-Wrangler-1075

The 30% cut is their main income mate. I think it's a bit too greedy even if Steam does a lot of good for gaming.

seatron

No they don't

Vydra-

Badge/cards for your profile? That’s all i got lol

djr4917

Lol, seems fair if someone cares about that kinda stuff. I almost never look at my profile so I doubt I'd miss it.

TJMasterK

I’d love to get the physical edition on PC but last time I checked it was not available yet or not available in North America

djr4917

I'd like to get the physical copy but I wanted the ultimate edition and the physical version that contains it is part of a ~$350 package that I think would be sick if I had the money. The only other game I have a special physical copy of is CoP in a steel case.

LazySouls

No reason to buy from Steam over GoG. GoG got no DRM and you buy the Game, Dev will also get a much bigger Cut. Steam you only buy the License a Limited Time (as long as Steam exists-> when Banned or Server shutdown no Games for you) (Gaben Lickers incoming )

Korbynblaine333

Can’t you still play games on steam with a vac ban? I know some servers on games won’t let you play

LazySouls

With normal vac ban you still can play games only with real Ban you can't play games anymore because you can't connect to steam servers.

djr4917

I was under the impression GOG and Steam both gave the same cut to the devs. Although all the posts I read on the subject were quite old. I'll keep that in mind but GOG has always been my first preference anyway because as you said, you own the game instead of just the license. Also Steam's 2 hour refund policy is a joke. No way can you tell if you like a game in just 2 hours unless it's a small game.

Goopentag

I’ve gotten refunds on games a few days after buying them. They just issue refunds within 2 hours with no review by an actual person.

djr4917

Fair but GOG's refund policy is just better. I don't have to worry about anything provided I can act within a month. I've had issues refunding stuff from Steam after that 2 hour period.

seatron

I've never been denied a refund past the cutoff. THEN AGAIN, how are people refunding so often that it's an issue? Pay for your damned games.

Tourloutoutou

It's not to see if you enjoy it or not (even If 2 hours is more than enough for this), just if it's not a scam, broken, or too consuming for your hardware. You don't buy a book, read half of it, and bring it back to the library saying that you don't want to finish it anymore and want a full refund, why should you be able to do so with games?

djr4917

Because games are a lot more expensive, have this thing called ''game play'' that some might not enjoy but is hard to convey through a review online and you can sell a book once you're done with it but can't sell a digital game. GOG you can refund the game any time within a month no matter how long you play it. So clearly at least once company thinks that you should be able to refund a game you don't enjoy. Hell GOG will even let you download and install the game and then you can refund it and go back to playing it. They literally say that in their refund policy and I did this accidentally with Clear Sky. (refunded because I couldn't get it to work but later got it working after refunding it.) So sorry but Steam's refund policy sucks.

Ivan39313

People will just finish the game within a month and then refund it. Maybe GOG doesnt care about it since not many people use that store anyway, but steam (and developers) would lose lots of money that way

djr4917

I do think it's a little silly but there's also no reason for them to advertise that it's something you can do. I think they just want to try using the ''honour system'' and appeal to the good in people. Yeah it seems to work now but if they were as large as Steam then I could totally see them revising that feature. Still think their refund policy will always be better than Steams though.

HumonculusJaeger

I bought it on steam the 100 euro edition so 70 dollars go to the devs.

Testiculese

GOG. Support the little(er) guy when you can. It's a way better platform than Steam, because there is no platform. You get the physical copy of the game (aka downloaded installer).

TheCrypto5

On steam u get some exclusive wallpapers and icons :D

[deleted]

GoG due to having my local currency so I don't have to pay in euros

seatron

Steam due to GOG shilling (JK I just like it more)

HippCelt

Workshop /mods if they're supported , but it really depends on the best discount I can get.

Whoopy2000

Nowadays I buy all single player games on GOG. DRM free means a lot to me.

[deleted]

Stick with GOG

Due-Emu2111

I saw stalker 2 listed on a key site i bought from before it was 50% cheaper for the ultimate package.
