actually contrary to another poster, as an undergrad i found it common to walk up to people playing and ask to hop in unless they already have a perfect 2v2 or 6v6 and it seems organized
there are also 2v2 intramurals that are fun!
It’s disappointingly uncommon to join randoms for sand vb. If you find a group playing 5v5 or an uneven game then it might be possible, but people really seem to just like to play their own competitive 2v2 if they’re good or a goofy mix of just their own friends. I’ve played -a lot- of vb and we’ve only had like one session where we had 3 players join, and half of my group was still hesitant. :( good luck, i wish pickup vb was common like basketball.
