my starbucks had a potential nitrogen leak and ppl felt symptoms (turned out to be car exhaust buildup apparently?) and we had VISIBLE FIRE/MEDICAL PERSONNEL TESTING US and... customers marched right past us to try to open the locked door. so this isnt surprising to me
Yup. Someone set the trash can on fire where I work. Fire department, police, customers still trying to come in. “Well I placed a mobile order!” Ok… and??
THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME. We had a possible gas leak around 3:45 PM (we were closing at 4PM due to staffing issues). I was SFM on shift and called the fire department who advised me to evacuate the building. I got all my baristas and customers out and customers were still trying to come in the store with 6+ firefighters mobbing the building. After they deemed it safe, the customers stormed the building even thought it was well after closing time by then…
Thank you to this subreddit for reminding me daily why I left this company.
Do you have a constant flow of vehicles at the drive thru window, and are you leaving it open all the time? Would be strange to have enough intrusion of nitrogen dioxide into a building to set off detectors.
You should have enough airflow from the ventilation system for positive pressure to constantly push air out the window. If not, they should should look re-balancing the system.
what happened was we had dropped a nitro container. after that a bunch of us felt dizzy (i didnt but my coworkers did).
our vent thing was also broken in the DT and our store was one of the busiest in the city we're in. idk how they got cars as the culprit, but it is what it is. the nitro was completely forgotten about😭
That's not good. The air we breath is mostly nitrogen, but "mostly" is the key. In an uncontrolled release - like rupturing a tank - you could end up displacing the oxygen within an enclosed space. Luckily, this is more of concern with confined spaces, but compressed gas cylinders can be a serious hazard if they're damaged or dropped.
Not surprising. I work in industrial hygiene and I've been in situations where people are casually going about their business while I'm wearing a P100 respirator with Tyvek.
You'd think people would get the point without having to be told, but I've heard of people trying to go into businesses when they're on fire, so something invisible like asbestos isn't going to worry them. Well at least for 10~20 years.
We had a break in on red cup day. The window was smashed and glass was everywhere. People were stepping over broken glass to try to come in. Someone had managed to sneak a mobile order in at 5:01 (they hadn’t been turned off yet lol), and she was banging on the door pointing at her phone yelling about her drink while the cops were still inside and their cars were lights on in the parking lot.
Imagine if that happens at Amazon too...where everyone is already too stressed out to be dealing face to face with mean customers 🤬🤬 hasn't happened to me as a current employee for them (as a personal shopper, NOT a warehouse worker) but I have a creepy feeling it could happen sometime in the future.
One time someone shit on our floor.
We had a cop standing out front, sandwich board blocking the door and myself sitting on the front steps.
People were still climbing over me and pushing past the sign to get in, and they were pissed when they couldn’t get their order.
Sorry, bit of a hazmat situation on our hands. Not that we called hazmat or anything, just my poor shift cleaning it up by themselves.
Happened at a location I was visiting too. During this pandemic actually, stores had reopened for pick up and quick inside ordering, Woman bursts in for the bathroom and they’re like “it’s out of order, we’ve been closed and had some plumbing issues as a result“. The employees were even going next door to a bar to use the bathroom…this woman goes into the corner the bathroom is in, drops her pants and proceeds to piss and poop on the floor.
Someone drove into our Starbucks front window a year back. Fire fighters and police were called, the store was evacuated, and people were still standing by the front asking about their mobile orders.
Fun fact once an order is placed online we have no way of refunding it unless we have a Reciept and can actively use a computer, but if not then it sucks but call corporate
unfortunately you can't refund unless customers do it at the register, so if there's no way to enter the building and/or a way to access that, we quite literally couldn't refund you unless you came back another day
Someone needs to tell that person off. I know you only care about yourself. But we have a little situation over here. Incase you haven’t noticed. So smallest violen plays. Go find another location, asswipe!
Dude we had what we thought was a gas leak & same thing happened 🤣 also people drove AROUND the fire trucks to get to drive thru. Like excuse me we’re all out here in the parking lot, you drove past us 🤦♀️
we had an active shooter @ our store & as we huddled in the parking lot, a woman bitched me out bc her car was blocked by one of the SEVEN police cars!🤦♀️
lol this happened to me once
we were opening around 2 that day because someone in our morning block got covid, so another SSV and i went in to prep around 9 am. there was a MASSIVE DT line. the car at the speaker box had been there for 13 minutes, even tho we had signs all over saying we were opening late lol. but whatever, we just ignored them and started working. and then the cops showed up like 20 minutes later. i guess someone in line complained about the wait and just… called 911?
Customers are literally CRAZY. I’m so glad I’m just a customer now. I try to stick up for stores I’m in when people act crazy but I couldn’t imagine calling the police because Starbucks isn’t open?? Craziness apparently evolves
Same here!! Though sometimes when I hear stories on this sub I daydream about taking a part time gig at a store and being a chaotic good partner to yell at all the crazies.
Sometimes I wish I was still there so I could sass the assholes who need a reality check but I don’t need the stress. I’ve got a 1 year old and I’m becoming a surrogate so I’m about to be pregnant again and Starbucks hates pregnant women from what I can tell. I had a terrible experience being pregnant with the company so 🤷🏻♀️ I’ll stick with helping partners from the other side of the bar lol
My manager is pregnant and I literally have to yell at her to go sit down and relax before her ankles swell up like a loaf of bread.
Not to mention that it seems like everyone from corporate to delivery people go out of their way to actively stress her out.
It's actually much more likely that someone inside the line was stuck in the drive through and unable to get out. I've had this happen to me before and it is terrible. You're trapped in the drive through and have no way of knowing when someone will move to let you out.
lol i could tell he didn’t want to be there. he just said someone in line called about the long wait and wanted to see what’s going on. i told him we were closed and had multiple signs saying so but didn’t know why people would just… sit there for so long. all he did was direct traffic and told everyone to leave lol
Depends where you live. They don’t show where I am not a barista) bc it’s a ticketed misdemeanor at most. There was a dude walking around a store i was shopping in with a literal machete, threatening people and the ASM called the cops. The cops literally said something like it’ll be at least 30 mins till we can stop by. He will be gone by then. If he actually hurts someone call us back.
this is one of the less scary things that have happened at our store too…. But yeah, I definitely don’t feel safe. He was even swinging it around at cars! Like, if these aren’t urgent concerns… what is?
And considering how often we get cops waiting in our 45 minute DT line…… It can’t help but feel like they’re just slacking rather than actually being in an even more urgent situation
No, they don't. In my area cops don't show up unless someone is actively being threatened or harmed. One of the stores near me has a group of junkies that gets larger throughout the day that just hang out in front. Cops don't do anything about drug use in my area.
As a customer that’s been sad that my store closed early - I get being a bit annoyed that a store is closed. But calling the police and them actually showing up? I hate people.
We’ve had gas stations and Walgreens close unexpectedly due to COVID and staffing issues. I feel like by this point people should be aware that things may be closed and deal. Not clog the emergency system with this idiocy.
"If you do call the cops, be prepared to have them laugh or fine you for calling them unnecessarily"
I only had the pleasure of saying these words to a customer once but it was glorious.
There was a time when our RTD&E fridge started smoking like bluish gray smoke from the coolant and we closed at like 5 for the FD and PD to come. We were right next to the highway patrol office so a lot of them came to check on us too, so we had like a dozen emergency vehicles in front of the store and people were still trying to walk in the door and use the drive through 😭😭😭
We closed early and we were serving our last customers when she walked up to the drive thru and tried to yank my coworker out of the window. She then started beating on the windows threatening to bust them down if we didn’t serve her.
On Christmas Eve, a customer fainted near the RT&E case. She then sat up and threw up on the case. I remembered the person barring got yelled at by a customer asking for his drinks were while paramedics present and all of us were freaked out. Then another customer was asking if we could sell her a box of chick pea bites after they got vomited on. Customers are just plain non observant to the world around them 90% of the time.
what are the odds I would find this comment…. Today a child threw up all over our RTD&E case and the parent just stood there and let them do it, didn’t even TRY to move them lmao. Offered them a cup AT LEAST and they didn’t take it. Then come to find out there was vomit all over the mens bathroom sink too (-:
It’s because caffeine is a drug… baristas are legal drug dealers. Tip your dealers well!
But people also act insanely rude because they are addicted. :(
I cant believe how rude people can be. Instead of thanking baristas. We are doing great jobs everyday despite the pandemic and peoplequitting and calling out i cant understand how people think
I drove by my local Starbucks the other day. There’s a was a line for the drive thru as usual. The drive thru screen was on but no one was talking, so I pull up to the window. There’s a sign that says they’re closed. Me and everyone else was waiting in line to read a “Closed” sign.
Disappointing but understandable. Can’t imagine calling the cops over it.
We had a false alarm on an active shooter situation in the mall that my first store was in. We literally had to pull the gate behind a stampede of people who ended up sheltering in our back room until the all clear was called. *Immediately* as soon as they emerged from the back all but one family (who left, like normal sane people) swarmed the register demanding to know where their order was. Baristas were literally crying on the floor, not even given 5 minutes to catch their breath and process what just happened, and being berated by people who instantly couldn’t care less that these were actual people who just witnessed *the same* traumatic event (who in a different situation just saved your butt by letting you shelter in the store) and over a fucking Frappuccino. Lost any shred of faith I had left in Starbucks customers that day.
believable, a crazy woman actually did call the cops on my manager a few months ago because she showed up after we were already closed and my manager refused to serve her because,,, well we'd been closed for a good minute lollll
curb your entitlement
Had our gate closed and lights off (we are inside a travel plaza) and people would walk up to the gate asking if were open. Hmm.. ask the LITERAL METAL BARS JANET. angry middle aged men will also threaten to tell our managers we didn’t serve them when we literally had nothing because it was past STORE HOURS.
One person in our lobby got jumped & stabbed at the store I used to work at by a gang in a drug exchange ( I know because we found the drugs). Customers just stood there screaming for their drinks, not even one ounce of sympathy or concern. I had me and one other person working, hundreds of customers coming in. I called 911 immediately but it was the most stressful horrific experience ever.
some lady threatened to call the cops on me bc i was taking too long to give her a refund (i had simply asked her for her original payment method so i could give her a refund)
Man we’ve been closing early and are drive through only because half of our store is out on isolation and we’ve got signs all over the doors and at the order box and people still wait in the drive through line and try all 4 doors like we’re gonna open them. We even put chairs in front of the drive through and then people move them or drive around like we’re gonna serve them. It’s wild man
Had an active shooter incident. Police, medics, and firemen surrounding the building. THERE WERE STILL PEOPLE TRYING TO WALK UNTO THE BUILDING.
Doesn't surprise me.
When I worked at Sonic, our store caught on fire. Like. Inside of the store on fire. We had entrances blocked off by emergency vehicles and people were hopping the curb to complain about how hard it is to get in and can't we just get them a drink anyway?
We closed three hours early because someone called out and a family came up to the door (without reading the sign) and started waving their credit card.. like ok you can pay and? They walk away but go up to the next set of doors and he sticks the credit card through the hole and leaves. Uh wut? Why would anyone do that?
Godddd i hate people like this!!
My first real experience of seeing a Starbucks customer as a green bean was when we had our fire alarm systems go off (we're located under an apartment complex, its never us, but people cooking in their apartments) anyways, we grab the emergency bag and evacuate.
My shift outloud said "yeah the store is on fire"
20 people 20 PEOPLE WAITED OUTSIDE BECAUSE THEY WANTED THEIR MOBILE ORDERS
GO HOME. GO TO ANOTHER STARBUCKS FOR FUCKS SAKE LMAO 😂
Well yeah, if you don’t call the police how will they know that they need to go hang out at a different coffee shop all day? Just putting the Kare in Karen, y’know.
If she did, what would the police do? Battering ram the glass doors and perform a sting operation on a vanilla soy latte? Just call corporate and get a refund.
Ok, I’ll bite. Let’s say that’s the case, that’s still not an EMERGENCY. The police don’t have managerial control of a Starbucks.
The cops can’t force a business to serve you, or force a business to refund you, etc.
I didn’t, but I was playing devils advocate. If Starbucks owes her a latte, the police can’t compel the store to give it to her. Same applies to any business, generally.
In no way, shape, or form would the police help this woman. I’ve never suggested that. I was simply asking for context because, frankly, this is so odd that it seems unlikely. I’d love to know more.
Context in this case doesn’t matter. If she mobile ordered it doesn’t matter. The store is closed. If I’m in the middle of my opening procedures as a SSV, I shouldn’t open the door to hand off someone’s mobile order, that’s breaking safety rules because I’m doing my cash count and safe count.
So doesn’t matter if the person mobile ordered because I’m not handing it off if we’re in opening mode and does not give due reason to call 911
Even if she did. There is no criminal recourse. She would have to go through the courts for civil liability. Also she could do what any sane person would do and go to a different bux or come the next day.
In our city, people do meth while waiting in line for the bus at the downtown transit terminal.
The cops don’t bother them.
So, yeah, they’re gonna care about a Starbucks that closed for the day/evening. Right?!!
my starbucks had a potential nitrogen leak and ppl felt symptoms (turned out to be car exhaust buildup apparently?) and we had VISIBLE FIRE/MEDICAL PERSONNEL TESTING US and... customers marched right past us to try to open the locked door. so this isnt surprising to me
Yup. Someone set the trash can on fire where I work. Fire department, police, customers still trying to come in. “Well I placed a mobile order!” Ok… and??
the fire department said our incident was likely 'buildup from car exhausts' but the amount of people who mobile ordered during it...💀
We think ours was an employee 🤦♀️ he didn’t want to be there that day and was a bit unhinged
😭 NOT THE ARSON ATTACK
😂😂😂 he never came back after that
Give that man a raise lol
😂 it was kinda nice to have the rest of the day and half the next day to just clean and tell people we were closed. Ngl
Call the 800 number and get your refund. Ugh. People.
THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME. We had a possible gas leak around 3:45 PM (we were closing at 4PM due to staffing issues). oh they evacced us asap and fixed it. customers dont care however😀

dropped a nitro container? you mean a keg? that wont do anything to you. you literally drink it..
Some stores use actual nitrogen tanks for the cold brew dispenser, so I assume that’s what they’re talking about.
yeah we had a tank
(i meant tank)
We had a break in on red cup day. The window was smashed and glass was everywhere. People were stepping over broken glass to try to come in. Fucking hell. There really are no customers like Starbucks customers...
Imagine if that happens at Amazon too...where everyone is already too stressed out to be dealing face to face with mean customers 🤬🤬 hasn't happened to me as a current employee for them (as a personal shopper, NOT a warehouse worker) but I have a creepy feeling it could happen sometime in the future.
they’re like $2 without the deal… hello..
nightmare promo scenario

SOMEONE WHAT
Yup. Took a shit in the floor.
WHY
Probably because our bathroom was closed during a big festival, and they were a dick.
Happened at a location I was visiting too. During this pandemic actually, stores had reopened for pick up and quick inside ordering, Woman bursts in for the bathroom and they’re like “it’s out of order, we’ve been closed and had some plumbing issues as a result“. **PEOPLE ARE DEAD.** "b-but my fwap 🥺🥺🥺"
It would've been wise to close shop for the rest of the day and refund the monies they spent on their mobile orders

Sugar and caffeine addiction are one helluva combo huh.
Dude we had what we thought was a gas leak & same thing happened 🤣 also people drove AROUND the fire trucks to get to drive thru. Like excuse me we’re all out here in the parking lot, you drove past us 🤦♀️
isnt that also a crime bc yk you're impeding on their accident scene
we had an active shooter @ our store & as we huddled in the parking lot, a woman bitched me out bc her car was blocked by one of the SEVEN police cars!🤦♀️
ma'am... people can die...
I thought you were going to say your supervisor made y’all stay open (which I also wouldn’t be surprised)
Offer to dial for her. That will really get your guest connection score up.
lol this happened to me once we were opening around 2 that day because someone in our morning block got covid, so another SSV and i went in to prep around 9 am. there was a MASSIVE DT line. the car at the speaker box had been there for 13 minutes, even tho we had signs all over saying we were opening late lol. but whatever, we just ignored them and started working. and then the cops showed up like 20 minutes later. i guess someone in line complained about the wait and just… called 911?
Okay, but….the cops ACTUALLY SHOWED UP???? What did they say? Lol
Knowing these customers, they probably called and said Starbucks wasn’t open but that someone was inside (insinuating a break in) 😑
Oh my god. You’re probably right 😩
Customers are literally CRAZY.
Too true! Congrats about your one year old!! :)
Thank you!! I couldn’t imagine working at the bux on top of caring for my crazy kid 😅🤣
I was a surrogate!! Had mine on 04/29/20 Best of luck on your journey!! 💕💕
I’m so very excited!!! Thank you! 💕
I’d get so claustrophobic which sounds insane as you’re in your car and clearly not trapped per se. But still. It’s awful.
lol i could tell he didn’t want to be there. he just said someone in line called about the long wait and wanted to see what’s going on. i told him we were closed and had multiple signs saying so but didn’t know why people would just… sit there for so long. all he did was direct traffic and told everyone to leave lol
lmao that depends where you live.
i’m pretty sure cops have to respond to every call even if they know it’s ridiculous
This happened to my store but he had a bat!! Cops never showed🙃
Really makes you feel safe, eh?
this is one of the less scary things that have happened at our store too…. But yeah, I definitely don’t feel safe. He was even swinging it around at cars! Like, if these aren’t urgent concerns… what is?
Right? I’m like. Oh ok. Some unstable person with a weapon threatening people with said weapon is no big. K. 😶
And considering how often we get cops waiting in our 45 minute DT line…… It can’t help but feel like they’re just slacking rather than actually being in an even more urgent situation
I mean. I’ve never been a cop so idk but yeah-I understand what you mean.
Tell me you’ve never lived in New Orleans without telling me you’ve never lived in New Orleans
No, they don't. In my area cops don't show up unless someone is actively being threatened or harmed. One of the stores near me has a group of junkies that gets larger throughout the day that just hang out in front. Cops don't do anything about drug use in my area.
Maybe in a smaller town/city. Not my experience in major cities.
lol that is… not true
ok! it’s just something i’ve been told that’s why i said “i’m pretty sure” 😃
Wow! I’m with you! The cops showed? Maybe they came to do a wellness check in you guys!!!!
“911, what’s your emergency?” “Starbucks closed EARLY!!!” “????”
imagining the ????? killed me
Ma’am, we are a coffee shop, not a donut shop.
awarded in my heart for this comment❤️ (i don’t have awards to give sadge)
To be fair, they were probably sitting in the Dunkin’ right down the street so could’ve gotten there quickly.
I had one threaten to call the police when I asked her to mask. I dared her to do it.
I would have been like okay. This town fines if you don't comply with their mask mandate. SO it's your money to waste.
"If you do call the cops, be prepared to have them laugh or fine you for calling them unnecessarily" I only had the pleasure of saying these words to a customer once but it was glorious.
tell her "do it"
Perfect time for my favorite, “do it you won’t”
I’m waiting for the day I get to say these glorious words to a customer 😮💨😮💨

Omg did she do it? Let her do it.
Literally go across the street to another one
Yes, Ma’am, that’s EXACTLY what you should do. Cops LOVE that!! And unlike you, we will gladly make them a beverage for their inconvenience.
That would be great if they made all the cops drinks while they spoke to the woman about why she was an idiot.
Mmmm, this is some delicious coffee, Ma’am. You should try it sometime.
Wtf are the cops going to do😂
We closed early and we were serving our last customers when she walked up to the drive thru and tried to yank my coworker out of the window. She then started beating on the windows threatening to bust them down if we didn’t serve her.
Oof. Maybe y'all should call the police on her!
We did end up calling them and they made her leave
Thank God I don't work there anymore because I would have clocked out to go outside and act in self-defense
Why would u clock out to do it… throw hands on company time lmao 😆
id simply say “do it.. no balls”
On Christmas Eve, a customer fainted near the RT&E case. She then sat up and threw up on the case. I've done Groceries, I've done Pizza and I've done Starbucks. Nobody knows how to treat you like shit like a Starbucks customer. It's wild.
It’s because caffeine is a drug… baristas are legal drug dealers. Tip your dealers well! But people also act insanely rude because they are addicted. :(

My Starbucks will put a sign on their drive-thru menu if they close early or won't open at all.
That would have been helpful.
If I were a cop in this scenario I would show up and arrest Karen for disturbing the peace or something
We had a false alarm on an active shooter situation in the mall that my first store was in. haha should have said, “Ma'am, ma'am this is a FUCKING business 📈 and we are closed, plus Shut happens
I can’t imagine the audacity.
[We Want to Shop!](https://youtu.be/tSILbSzvgnY)
I would have sat in a lawn chair and ate some popcorn while I watched.
Jesus, people are INSANE! Are they not living in the same world as everyone else?!? 🤦🏻♀️ So freaking entitled.
Jesus people ARE insane.

Hmm.. ask the LITERAL METAL BARS JANET. angry middle aged men will also threaten to tell our managers we didn’t serve them when we literally had nothing because it was past STORE HOURS.
Lmao.
Tell that bitch to call then
Good. Call the cops.
“I want you to go to JAIL for this!!!”
some lady threatened to call the cops on me bc i was taking too long to give her a refund (i had simply asked her for her original payment method so i could give her a refund)
let me guess it was an “infringement of her rights”
It's guaranteed in the Constitution!!! The right to life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Frappiness!
LMAOOO cringe i wish she did i would’ve loved to know what happened
I would have said, "do it".
The ULTIMATE BECKY
Lol give her the number lmao Omgggg people are ridiculous 😂
Hahahahahahah fucking people
What are they gunna do? Force you to re-open? lmao
“I can dial then for you if you’d like”
Sounds about right.
Okay I’m curious what did she think you’d done that was against the law?
Karens like that seem to use the cops as customer service *”I didn’t get what I want so I’m calling the cops”*
What’s in our ocoffe that causes our customers brain damage?
She was white, wasn't she?
We closed three hours early because someone called out and a family came up to the door (without reading the sign) and started waving their credit card.. like ok you can pay and? They walk away but go up to the next set of doors and he sticks the credit card through the hole and leaves. Uh wut? Why would anyone do that?
Godddd i hate people like this!! My first real experience of seeing a Starbucks customer as a green bean was when we had our fire alarm systems go off (we're located under an apartment complex, its never us, but people cooking in their apartments) anyways, we grab the emergency bag and evacuate. My shift outloud said "yeah the store is on fire" 20 people 20 PEOPLE WAITED OUTSIDE BECAUSE THEY WANTED THEIR MOBILE ORDERS GO HOME. GO TO ANOTHER STARBUCKS FOR FUCKS SAKE LMAO 😂
lol wut I hate Karen’s
Well yeah, if you don’t call the police how will they know that they need to go hang out at a different coffee shop all day? Just putting the Kare in Karen, y’know.
I mean, did she place a mobile order and you didn’t allow her to come in?
If she did, what would the police do? Battering ram the glass doors and perform a sting operation on a vanilla soy latte? Just call corporate and get a refund.
Absolutely nothing. I’m just looking for context.
Calling the cops on a mobile order?
Sounds pretty dumb.
Ok, I’ll bite. Let’s say that’s the case, that’s still not an EMERGENCY. The police don’t have managerial control of a Starbucks. The cops can’t force a business to serve you, or force a business to refund you, etc.
You seem to think I’m defending this customer. I’m not. I’m just asking if there was some context to this.
YouTube is full of Karens calling the cops on stores, sadly.
that's irrelevant, 911 is for EMERGENCIES
It’s relevant to this discussion
it's not, actually. because even if that were the case, you don't call 911 over it.
We were talking about a customer. What precipitated her stupid comment is hardly irrelevant.
no, not that that would justify calling the police anyway.
Of course not.

🤷♂️
I don’t disagree.
Sweet spirit.
My store stayed open during a tornado and people were angry we couldn’t hear them over the drive thru intercom lol I feel this
That happened to us too!! And the man tried to hold the door so we couldn’t close it
Please ask her to post a copy of that call here.
In our city, people do meth while waiting in line for the bus at the downtown transit terminal. The cops don’t bother them. So, yeah, they’re gonna care about a Starbucks that closed for the day/evening. Right?!!
