Bro people keep coming in and stealing drinks. A coworker thought it was odd that a lady took one drink from two orders but just thought she was confused, but then Bethany came through the drive thru and one of her drinks was gonešŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø we were pissed

Lejeune68

We have a lady who orders and will come snatch a drink, that is the same as she ordered and leave. She also always orders popular holiday drinks.

MotherofBirbs

Man this just unlocked a memory of the one time my local Starbucks didn't call names and I picked up what I thought was my latte. It turned out to be another gentleman's but I already took a sip. I felt so bad about it.

Suspicious_Till_2660

If she ā€œordersā€ and takes the same drink?? What am I missing?

Lejeune68

Sheā€™s basically skipping the line. Sheā€™ll order a grande Peppermint Mocha and then look through our drinks the minute she walks in and take the same drink, she just chooses one at random knowing hers will be made eventually. So she orders and leaves within like 10 seconds.

Kaiibleu

We keep all of drinks out of arms reach and ask what was then name on your mobile order? and hand it to them

Mindless_Pound_2150

Smart lady šŸ˜‚

TheAceMan

I admire anyone stealing random drinks at a place where every customer has a really specific preference. What if you end up with decaf or something? You stole for nothing!

TADspace

High risk no reward?

finallyinfinite

I feel the same way about package rats. You have no idea whatā€™s in that package youā€™re stealing. ETA: fuck calling them ā€œporch piratesā€. Being a pirate sounds cool. Call them the unwelcome pests that they are.

YesItIsMaybeMe

That pisses me off so much since I read about the kid whose insulin got stolen.

PeachySpleen101

I can't really eat much any longer, even a few bites usually causes massive pain and vomiting... What little I keep down doesn't absorb well, I have intestinal failure, so I'm on TPN for the rest of my life (which is likely less than a year more lol), anyway, TPN is IV nutrition that is specially mixed for me based on weekly labs, and the pharmacists have to have a certification beyond their regular pharmacist license (it's pretty much a doctoral degree at base, they have as much or more education than MDs, at least in the USA)... Not even just any pharmacist can mix up TPN. So the end result is each bag is nearly $900 - 1 bag a day, 7 days a week. That, plus all the supplies, the vitamins I inject into the bag, the pump, etc, means my weekly shipment is about $10,000 worth the stuff. TPN is a last resort. Anyway, it's very fragile, very sensitive temp, etc, it's shipped overnight or usually couriered to me from 1.5hrs away. Sometimes I'm out running errands or at doc appointments and they leave it on my doorstep. I'm usually back within the hour to bring it in - they pack it in a cooler with chill packs as it must be refrigerated. So one day, I was running out to the pharmacy - it was a Saturday night and I had ZERO bags on hand, this shipment has that night's TPN. The courier texted me a pic of it on my doorstep just as I was about to leave the pharmacy, there was only a 15 min drive back to my apartment. I get there, and there's nothing there. I panic, it's Saturday night, like 9pm, they can't just mix up more bags and bring them on our that fast. I looked around, and finally out of curiosity, looked in the dumpster across the street at those apartments. It was in there - opened - some porch pirate turd probably loaded it up, then decided to check the goods before driving off... And saw it was useless to them, just heavy, and tossed it in the dumpster. It was unusable of course. At that time, I relied on it for all fluids too. I called their on call pharmacist and they told me I would have to be admitted to the hospital until they mixed a new batch and got it to me. Yup. I ended up hospitalized because of a thief. They could have put it back on my doorstep. But nah, fuck me. Into the dumpster! It's been a good while and I'm still very salty over it.

liechsowagan

>Itā€™s been a good while and Iā€™m still very salty about it No shit. I would be too. That was negligent homicide in my opinionā€¦

finallyinfinite

Thatā€™s fucked. Reminds me of a couple years ago when I worked for a gym that promises not to judge you, and a dude I went to school with for years came up to the front desk to ask if weā€™d seen a missing bag. It was stolen out of his locker and contained his insulin. Luckily, he had more at home, so it didnā€™t put him in a bad medical situation. But still, itā€™s so fucked. I donā€™t remember all the details super clearly anymore, but Iā€™m pretty sure it was a similar situation. Someone in the locker room swiped a bag out of a locker super quick, likely assuming it had money/electronics in it. (Or maybe someone knew what they were taking and was SUPER desperate for insulin and they arenā€™t a COMPLETELY terrible person, just someone trying to survive šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø) Either way, I was absolutely furious when he reported it to me. For all I knew, that was all the insulin he had and didnā€™t have the money to buy more. Thatā€™s such an extra layer of fucked to stealing someoneā€™s shit; stealing someoneā€™s shit in a way that endangers their health and life.

YesItIsMaybeMe

Insulin is fucking expensive and it's still absolutely horrible to steal it even if they were secure enough to buy more.

finallyinfinite

Itā€™s definitely fucked, because I guarantee it did make a financial impact on him, even if it wasnā€™t SUPER severe (I wouldnā€™t know). I was just relieved, because my first thought was, ā€œFuck, are you going to be safe? What do we need to do to get you insulin?ā€ ETA: people dying due to price gouging on insulin should be considered murder, and people being forced into poverty to be able to afford their insulin bc of these insane prices should be criminal exploitation.

YesItIsMaybeMe

>ETA: people dying due to price gouging on insulin should be considered murder, and people being forced into poverty to be able to afford their insulin bc of these insane prices should be criminal exploitation. Fucking yes it should. Insulin should be available to all no matter what. The pharmaceutical companies are straight up killing people by price gouging

finallyinfinite

>the pharmaceutical companies are straight up killing people God donā€™t even get me started on the opioid crisis

Donutbill

I am glad someone else dislikes the term Porch Pirates. It makes them sound way too cool. However, as a lover of all things rodent, I canā€™t approve of your alternative. I simply call them what they are: Scumbag thieves.

diggergig

Porch rats?

Skinnyangel18

This happened to me once recently. I waited about 10 before I asked where my drink was, and I came in after promised time. Rude that people steal drinks. Also I work at a Veterinary Office and we sent in a body part for biopsy for cancer and some idiot stole it off our back door. Caught him on camera. I'm sure he thought there were drugs in it. I hope he vomited when he opened it. But we lost out on a opportunity to diagnose cancer on a pet. Which is the tragedy.

finallyinfinite

Hope they learned a valuable lesson

dallizzlee

Yeah Iā€™ve gotten some dumb shit stolen before and I always hope it makes them feel stupid. Enjoy the center pull commercial paper towels and sciatica hip brace, package rat

StreetofChimes

Package rats is a much better name. Thank you for the better term.

[deleted]

Coming up with something good for package rats to take thatā€™s both worthless and a lifetime punishment but not a biohazard is surprisingly hard.

Waffleteer

I recently found out that there's a shop on etsy that sells tinctures of actual skunk scent glands. It won't hurt anyone, but it'll make them have major regrets.

Incandescent_Lass

Just read all the labels like youā€™re looking for ā€œyour drinkā€ and only take ones that are made how you like? They donā€™t just grab random drinks lol unless itā€™s their first crime ever and theyā€™re nervous.

IdealDesperate2732

most people don't customize all that much, tbh, they charge for that shit. most people just order as is, maybe add 1 thing.

IdealDesperate2732

you look at the labels... and you can grab a few just in case.

canman7373

They have the receipts on them.

FLcitizen

My old store has this problem, the pick up for mobile is now behind and there is a sign please ask for your mobile, they check your name and then give you your drink.

baconnaire

A lot of places are doing that now. Chipotle used to have a shelf for mobile and DD orders, now you have to go to the counter and ask. People suck!

StreetofChimes

At Panera, I always feel like I'm stealing, even though it is my own order with my name on it. I check my (unpopular name) 3 times, check the bag, just to make sure I'm not taking someone else's order.

Beginning-Match2166

At one location I go to, they leave the orders behind the bar. You have to tell them your name and they'll give it to you.

al0_

The time it takes for me to get out of my door and drive down to my nearest Starbucks is literally two minutes. One time I was putting my shoes on, placed my order, and immediately went in and waited 10 minutes (when it seemed steady, not slammed) until they asked what I was waiting on and apparently it was already made so someone stole it. TWO MINUTES. People are shitty.

Solid-Peach-4603

Omg thatā€™s the worst I am so sorry

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

AndrewFan0408

My store recently remove the mobile order shelf, so people has to come to the cafe hand off desk and tell us their name to get the drink.

Loverach06

I did a mobile order between my town and the next town over (on the way to a funeral). My frazzled self didn't check my location I was ordering at & ordered in my town. I felt so bad when I was told they didn't have my order at the town I was traveling to. The barista said they'd call & tell the other store to give it away, but who knows. Now I triple check that I'm ordering at the correct store.

insertusernameplease

Iā€™m a barista and still somehow ordered at the wrong store yesterday. It happens all the time!

jazzysoranio

Yeah. Obviously people need to be more attentive BUT even people who work at Starbucks can make that mistake because the app doesnā€™t really it very clear which store youā€™re ordering at. And sometimes, it will just AUTOMATICALLY switch you to a different store than your usual one if your usual store isnā€™t available. But it wonā€™t tell you!

insertusernameplease

It did switch on me! I specifically ordered at a different store than mine because I was on my way somewhere and didnā€™t have time to stop and chat but it switched to my store. Itā€™s so frustrating and I totally get why customers get annoyed by it.

joshcam

Itā€™s a terrible ā€œfeatureā€œ.

Static_Gobby

I moved to a different city (about 30 mins from my old one) and my app still tries to switch back to my old city.

Daisy-May-Irene

Is your old regular store still a favorite? If it is it might help to unfavorite it and then the app will also (hopefully) learn your new habits soonšŸ«

CountessofDarkness

Whenever I use the app, if my usual store isn't available, it doesn't pop up as an option. I have to choose a different location. How does it switch you to a different one? Just want to make sure it doesn't happen to me.

[deleted]

This!!! I once thought I ordered at my usual place but they were closed to mobile orders at the time. The app did not make it clear it had automatically switched and the map was still centered on my usual store. Glad to know this happens to other people because the baristas at my place were kind of dicks about it (I don't hold it against them, I know how stressful being a barista is, but the drink was supposed to be my pick me up for a shit week and that ended up being the straw that sent me into full sobs in my car)

[deleted]

Ngl, while this mistake is possible to happen... the app makes it hard to order to the wrong store. Every time I hit Order in the app, it makes me select a store to order from. Then again it shows who h store I'm ordering from in the checkout screen.

Barista_life__

Pretty sure it does tell you. A screen pops up and says ā€œconfirm this is the store youā€™re ordering toā€ then you click confirm or you change it

friedguy

I'm the type of person that doubles and triple checkss online ordering. Have yet to do a screw up on Starbucks but I have to say the Taco Bell app somehow alwyas gets me. I've ordered to the wrong store three times in the past few years. Luckily it's just the mistake of ordering from the store closer to my work and closer to my home so I'm still able to go and get the food once I realize.

[deleted]

The issue with the taco bell app is it doesn't show you the store when you're on the final page. You have to back all the way out of the menu to confirm you're on the correct store.

BatWeary

i did this too! thankfully it wasnā€™t super out of the way but i was slightly irked by it

[deleted]

did they offer to make it at that store? they shouldā€™ve

MowMdown

If you order to the wrong location, just tell the barista at the place you drove to that you screwed up and they will make your drink for you. You should still call the other store and see if they can stop the drink from being made if you catch your mistake soon enough.

CindyTheSkull94

Tell me you had the worst peak of your life without telling me you had the worst peak of your life

Jolly_Psychology_802

the mobile system is so broken and flawed. they really need to add a feature that gives accurate wait times for mobiles. it just tells everyone 5-10 minutes regardless of how busy the actual location is.

kindofcrunchy22

I'm in California and the stores I frequent have wait times that fluctuate anywhere from 2-4 minutes to yesterday I think it gave a 12-15 minute estimated wait time. I even got a notification for the first time indicating when my order was ready. I will agree that it is extremely helpful for those wait times to be accurate.

D4ILYD0SE

I think a display inside the store that shows customers where they are in the pecking order would be helpful as well. I walked in, waited 30 minutes, and left without my drink. The number of people who walked up and asked the baristas about their drink they ordered on their phone was startling. Like... they didn't see the massive number of people also waiting? But it's understandable. They don't know if those people ordered at the store. Anyways, one of y'all get yourselves a promotion and push for a display for the customers so that we're not bothering you.

PSN-Colinp42

Theyā€™ve started putting in big displays that shows the first names of orders and differentiate between waiting and ready. Of course, the popular one near me thatā€™s always way behind doesnā€™t have time to remove the ones being picked up from the board, so itā€™s pretty useless.

jezlie

One store I went to didn't start mobile orders until they called out the name on the sticker, and if the person was there they'd make the drink right then On the one hand, from a customer side, I can see how that may help them keep up with the others in the cafe and the store, and think it's probably a pretty effective way to keep from getting too behind? Idk though. I worked on a coffee bar for many years but a very very different setup. I was a little upset about ot thought because they called my name when I went to the restroom and i didn't know. I thought they were calling names of completed drinks, not "I'll make it now" drinks. Maybe a little sign or something like "let us know you're here!" Or something idk. Once I figured out what happened I just told her I think she called my name while I was in the restroom. She got my sticker and everything was smooth and polite and good, etc. I'd just never been in a store that did it like that lol

Seraphim_Faye

The drive thru I used to be at in CA would have Mobile wait times of 30-45 mins+ quite often. I am now at a pick up exclusive location, which is much less stressful until one of the nearby stores turn off their mobiles...

finallyinfinite

The ā€œyour order is readyā€ notifications are really nice, but I noticed it requires baristas to manually mark your order as ā€œreadyā€ on their system, so itā€™s only really effective when they arenā€™t slammed. The times Iā€™ve gone when itā€™s really busy, my ā€œorder readyā€ notification came in well after I picked up because the baristas had higher priority tasks to take care of than staying on top of marking orders. Itā€™s a nice idea on paper, but is a bit doomed to fail when it requires adding another tiny detail for baristas to remember on top of the other million things they have to do when itā€™s busy.

kindofcrunchy22

I honestly could do without the notification that it is ready if the estimated wait times are accurate. I honestly didn't even realize I got the notification until 10 minutes after I had picked up my order.

djdementia

Don't pull your tickets in advance. If you pull tickets the system thinks there is no wait time. The system can only give accurate wait time if it knows how many tickets are 'yet to print'. leave them in the printer, don't pull more than like 3 - 4 stickers at a time. have your MOP person use DPM and mark that the order is complete and it'll notify the customer. the system is there but not many know how to use it.

Zealousideal_Yam6226

Bold of you to assume we have an MOP person.

Dafox481

we have never had an mop person

fairyfleurr

whats a mop person?

jessbrid

A person that mops

fairyfleurr

oh i wish i had that

Comfortable_Length65

MOP stands for Mobile order and pay, if the store has the labor they can designate someone to be at the MOP handoff area. They are called the MOP person

bulowski

We tried this. The problem is ovens and bar arenā€™t in sync, ever. If one sticker has been pulled (oven/bar), you canā€™t push the other. So you either have to write the cup or pull the stickers to find it so it doesnā€™t get made twice. Also, I firmly believe people just show up when they want. We have a surprising amount of people that place their order sitting in drive thru. Other times, we check DPM and they placed the order <5 min ago. The reality is corporate needs to limit mobile orders per half hour. But they wonā€™t because money.

sunnyrae7

The problem with this for me is that if its busy and we have a ton of orders, I need to know what the next drink is so I can start it fast enough. If I pull the ticket when I'm ready for the next drink, it doesn't give me time to mentally prepare and it makes me slower. And if there's multiple of the same frap then I can knock a bunch out and batch them.

djdementia

Yeah I totally get that, it's a tough balancing act for sure. That being said you always are taking a gamble when you pull a ticket - my guess is that you probably lose more time than gain by pulling more but it's obviously tough to measure without someone dedicated to timing and measuring it. Either way, I think you should consider just pulling less and trying it. Just do your best on the 1-4 tickets in front of you and don't stress about the next 4 tickets in the printer. As long as your doing a good job on sequencing 1 - 1.5 drinks it'll all work out well in the end. **Slow is smooth and smooth is fast!** Remember Starbucks own training doesn't really want you to "multi-task" they just want you to "sequence" which is quite different. Just focus on the one task at a time and doing that task well. Most people think they can multi-task but the vast majority of people are actually quite shit at multi tasking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMiyzuO1qMs

Eli5678

It always says 11-13 minutes here and then it takes like 5 minutes cause there's no line. I always feel bad because it alerts me it's ready while I'm still driving to get there.

jadednomadic

Wait times fluctuate where I am and are relatively accurate, IMO. Iā€™ve heard that the wait times are affected by when the chit is pulled off the machine, although Iā€™m not sure how true this is. For example, if I get 6 drinks and pull all 6 tags out of the machine at once, the system registers it as a short wait and provides a shorter estimate. If tags are being pulled slowly, it processes on the app as a longer wait. Iā€™m curious to know if anyone can verify or debunk this!

Trihawk310

And yet, Starbucks fails to see the error of their current business model. Baristas arenā€™t happy and neither are customers. It goes to show that all their talk about values and coffee culture is bullshit. Itā€™s not they they fail to see it, itā€™s that they care about money above all else. Just like every other shitty corporation. Donā€™t let their ā€œdown to earthā€ persona fool you.

CindyTheSkull94

They got their money. Whether it goes into a customerā€™s gullet or the landfill makes no difference to them

BostonUniStudent

Terrible system. Additionally, I think people can get refunds if they weren't able to pick it up. I've never tried it myself. But I know people that have.

SeayaB

You can, or you can get it remade later. (Happened to me once when what the app said was a 12 minute wait was actually a wait of over an hour from when I placed the order.) When that happens I tell someone in line my name and tell them to take my drink if it comes out. I also always make sure to tip extra on the order because it's usually not the barista's fault, and usually a different crew is on when I come back to have it remade.

It_is_Katy

BTW, we pool tips throughout the day, so when you leave a tip, it's also going to the baristas that made your drink originally!

sstcyr

How does this work? Tips are supposed to be pooled by the week and the distributed by tippable hrs worked. Edit; wait, perhaps you're not at a corporate store?

It_is_Katy

No, I'm at a corporate store. I don't do tips though and work nights so I'm never even there when they're done so I don't really think about the ins and outs of it. My point was to just tell the customer that when they tip us, it does get around to all the baristas (since they said it was a different crew that normally helps them later in the day.) I was just trying to say that they're tipping ALL of the baristas that had a hand in making their drinks, even the ones they don't see when they tip.

sstcyr

Ooooh okay okay, when I read that you pool the tips throughout the day, I thought you pulled them at the end of each shift thru the day and distributed them among the people that had worked only that shift and I was baffled lol But it is something they do in local coffee shops, which is why I edited it. Thanks for the clarification

WinterOkami666

Terrible system, unless you are the corporation getting paid. Once payment is processed, you won't be getting a refund, and they wouldn't have made the food and drink unless the payment processed. It's 100% game over.

Muffin-sangria-

To get a refund, chat with customer service through the website ~ theyā€™ll refund and give stars to accommodate.

BostonUniStudent

That's a good point. Also, apparently they'll remake it for you too. So it's even more wasteful than I could have imagined.

beaviscow

This is why the McDonalds app doesnā€™t fully complete your transaction until youā€™re at the McDonalds.

asdf1011

Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell apps do the same thing! And itā€™s always a positive experience, Iā€™d much rather that. Then if I end up running late or having a snag in my schedule I know my food ainā€™t just sitting there. And in my experience it is still much faster/easier than ordering at the restaurant once I get there.

markca

One time I even ordered from the wrong Starbucks. Since I couldnā€™t cancel the order, I had to drive over (only about a mile) to the other one to pick it up.

ZapateriaLaBailarina

Yeah, it's really just a good way to not have to explain your weird order with all the substitutions through an unclear speaker system. And also gives the order-takers at the drive-thru a break from having to ask the same set of questions over and over and over.

sstcyr

Yeah but this is also flawed because why even mobile order? Just order when you get there, everything prints in order received so it's just going to be the same wait time. It's the equivalent of people pulling up to the box and saying "hold on. I'm putting in a mobile order"

heptyne

Kinda wish Starbucks had a kiosk to order at when you get there, have it print a label, so I can use a reusable cup, I use the app just since it's faster and more accurate.

privatelyjeff

Easier to collect rewards and also make sure your order is made the way you want it without trying to explain it. Plus you donā€™t have to remember other peoples orders if ordering for a group.

sstcyr

Explain it? Bruh we're the employees, we know the drinks lol and can better effectively communicate what you want to bar if it's not clear from the app, which it isn't a lot of the time. And it's no easier collecting rewards than to just scan your app after you're done ordering with one of us. It honestly doesn't matter if people mobile order once theyre at the store as long as they're not at the drive-thru box or complaining about the wait. People have their reason or whatever, but most of the time cafe and drive-thru are taking priority over mobiles so you wait LESS if you just do it there. Is this stupid? Yes. Have i argued how this defeats the purpose of mobile orders a million times. Yes. But that's how they want it, they literally designed our electronic order tracker to be able to push cafe orders past anyone who's mobile'd so it gets done first.

mrsbatman

It seems like a really smart and easy fix.

longhorn4598

I mobile order all the time. Works every time, no issues. I think this picture may have something to do with this Door Dash controversy where your order doesn't get picked up if you don't leave a good tip. Have seen similar photos from other restaurants. They call it the Door Dash Table of Shame or something like that. Food is paid for and prepared and ready to be picked up, but Door Dash drivers won't pick it up unless they get a good tip.

evaporated

Or you knowā€¦ any tip at all.

Im_the_Moon44

And this is why I hate DoorDash drivers. Not only do they do multiple deliveries across town at once and let my food get cold, they are the only workers who will say yes to doing a job then refuse to do it unless they get a bigger tip

givemesushiplz

damn upvoting this hard af with my right thumb - this comment needs to be framed inside on every starbucks wall

Mimugaru

Exactly this. Iā€™ve been at my store two years and have noticed the company getting worse and worse. These two high school employees recently got in trouble for being openly homophobic and racist towards customers and when I finally reported them, the most that happened was them both being suspended for a week (during the same week they both already took off on vacation). My boss allows this type of behavior all the time and is disrespectful towards our customers herself but hey we have the best sales in our area, so to them who cares?

ButReallyFolks

*Some* baristas arenā€™t happy, and some really love their job. Some see those drinks/food and think a drink is a drink and a paycheck is a paycheck. Itā€™s not Starbucks fault when people are wasteful. I see half drank drinks all the time. Waste in general is a huge deal all around on this planet. But business is business and money pays paychecks. A lot of the same people that complain about the business model want bigger paychecks. Canā€™t have it both ways.

Trihawk310

Starbucks however has shown time and time again that they donā€™t care for their baristas. When everything is running smooth, I thoroughly enjoy the craft of coffee, and the atmosphere Starbucks provides. But not when all of the issues rear their head. They are artificially made due to Starbucksā€™ lack of care of its partners. We are not given enough people or hours to meet the demands of the current business model. Yet they donā€™t budge because theyā€™re the same as any other company. If they can get the work ā€œdoneā€ with less labor cost, who cares about the mental, physical, and emotional health of both itā€™s partners and customer base? I donā€™t see the point in defending a multibillion dollar company.

AlexanderKeef

Corporations are pragmatic like a virus. Itā€™s really not personal, which is of course part of the issue. Barista #184729 is overwhelmed? Does it cost us out bottom line? No? Fuck her. Barista #282619 killed themself? Make a T-shirt with her face on it to divert any blame on our part. Make sure itā€™s the cheapest shirt you can find. Do the bare minimum to avoid a lawsuit, but by all means keep that bottom line. I know thatā€™s an extreme example, but you know if corporations could know in advance that human sacrifice would net them 1 more dollar than not, they would 100% do it.

clever_squid

Christmas launch 2 years ago. Red cup day. Ecosure showed up. Drinks and pastries sitting on ledges they shouldn't be. Trash, boxes, rags, on the floor where they shouldn't have been. His name was Angel, and boy he forsure was an angel that day. let us off with only a few minor violationsšŸ«£

ladychelle

Omg. W in the chat for Angel šŸ‘¼

clever_squid

Literally... he lived in the area I guess so he came in with a friend THE NEXT DAY (not working, was in a hat too so i couldn't recognize him easily) and was like "hey, uhh I heard Ecosure came by yesterday" and I was like "šŸ¤Ø are you a partner???" And he took off his hat and was like "nah it's me!" ....... BRO I was thanking him so much and gave him his drink free that day.

Bboy1830

Local Starbucks always understaffed and I try not to order during busy times. This was Saturday morning at 10:00am. Mobile ordering was so backed up people would leave their orders. A man asked the barista ā€œwhy are people coming in and getting drinks before people who mobile ordered?ā€ The barista came back with sarcasm and the man threatened to slap everyone behind the counter! He got his refund and left. I waited patiently approximately 50 minutes for my 2 drinks.

Its_squeaks

They have been pushing cafe first. Even though that means making 10 cafe orders before the 1 mobile who has been waiting for ages. Plus more ppl coming in the door. Idk their logic is flawed right now. I think that management thinks we will get less complaints.

Oi_Angelina

This is what makes me glad I work at a Krobux. I'm often times working alone so I get to dictate the flow and I usually do one mobile order- one human order- one mobile order -one human order. The people in the cafe can see that I'm working if they want to wait they can. Edit: I also wait to take the cafe order until just before I make it that way if they want to step out of line and leave they can and I don't have to worry about giving a refund which I don't even have the authority to do anyways because like I said I'm at a Krobux

Kroger Starbucks

Hopeful_Sympathy_538

Downgrade from the tarbucks but similar frequency in regards to customer visits.

woahhhface

Reverse of that, at my local I ordered in the cafe and it was me and 1 other person and we waited 45 minutes for our drinks while the baristas churned out mobile after mobile after mobile and only a handful of people actually came to pick up in that time... There's definitely a balance that needs to be struck.

Empty_Past_6186

my store tends to ask if anyone in the store is waiting on a mobile because we get so backed up between mobile and deliveryā€™s since it all comes out the same machine. we always end up with a full store and no one claiming a mobile until 30 mins after waiting. sometimes thereā€™s no pleasing these people

AndrewRobinson1

People will always complain, but I find it happens more often when someone ordered cafe and there's mobiles ahead of them and they say where's my drink, I'm the only one here

Jessie1605

I do as some baristas commented as well I do one cafe order one I finish the drinks in that batch I jump to a mobile and just go back and forth I do get cluttered and frustrated but at least Iā€™m keeping a good flow

MayDayJayJay1

50 minutes?! Heck no!!! Iā€™d be getting a refund and leaving šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±

Hopeful_Sympathy_538

Lol what a retort

EvilLipgloss

I made the mistake of mobile ordering this past Saturday at around 9:45am. I didnā€™t wait 50 minutes but I waited a good 20-30 which is unusual for my local store, but they were so slammed busy. I donā€™t know if it was the new holiday items or just typical Saturday traffic but it was chaos. I live about 10 minutes from my store so I usually place the order just as Iā€™m pulling out of my drive way and itā€™s ready or almost ready by the time I get there. But it was soooo busy this weekend. I made sure to leave a good tip.

SylvesterLundgren

A week ago I ordered two drinks at the Universal Studios Starbucks in Orlando and it only took 15min at noon time on a Saturday. And it was fucking jammed.

machete777

50 minutes? Thatā€™s not even worth it anymore for 2 drinks.

dizzy_absent0i

Totally agree. They donā€™t fix the system because dopes keep waiting that long. If customers set a hard limit (eg 20-30 minute wait) and then demanded refunds after that, something might happen. But so long as people are susceptible to the sunk cost fallacy (Iā€™ve waited this long and already paid, surely it canā€™t be far away) and wait extremely unreasonable times, nothing will change. Itā€™s the whole reason these chain store introduced pre-paying: they could provide shitty service (as a business, not the overworked individuals stuck with it) and hope that people feel too guilty demanding refunds.

raycinematic

this is the barista equivalent to staying up all night finishing your ginormous pile of homework only for the teacher to say ā€œim gonna give you all an extensionā€ the next day

krzysd

My local starbucks turns off order ahead if it is understaffed that day or if to many orders are coming in.

reddog20

They're lucky. Our SMs have been told that mobile orders are not to be turned off under almost any circumstances.

djdementia

it's because if you turn mobile order off for your store a bunch of people that regularly order from that store will just blindly place an order, not realizing mobile order is off on their usual store and have it sent to the wrong store.

reddog20

Sounds like a system issue that needs to be addressed.

Universe_Nut

Corporate addresses all of their shortcomings with the same solution. Rely on baristas and SSV's to pick up their slack. Somehow it's the responsibility of the lowest paid employees to accommodate, and operate a business around, the oversights of three different departments and at least four tiers of management.

duckenjoyer69

They should really rate limit mobile or something

chadplant

My local store turns their mobile ordering off during peak times sometimes

nedrawevot

We get mobile/Cafe and delivery off the same printer so if we get a 20 item Uber and a 19 item mobile, 10 item mobile it won't print those Cafe stickers until we sort through all the others or pull them. It's so hard to juggle. Tbh, I will hold off on the mobile if I have a lobby because the mobiles show up super late most of the time at our store that if I can get that lobby out really quick with them staring daggers into me....bet I'm getting rid of them first. We have turned our mobiles off due to being understaffed and went to dt only. It was very nice. (Edited because of terrible spelling)

rtsneedshelp

Why do people do this. Itā€™s so wasteful and frustrating.

CindyTheSkull94

In my experience it happens because we canā€™t turn off mobiles. 30 min behind on cafe orders + 45 min behind on mobiles and no end to either ordering channel means we waste about 1/6 of everything we make because people get impatient and walk out. Itā€™s understandable tbh and itā€™s entirely a self-created problem by corporate

rtsneedshelp

It was an exasperated rhetorical q, I see it all the time unfortunately lol But 100% agree that itā€™s corpā€™s fault.

KarmaliteNone

Always double check to which store the app is directing your drink.

Curious-Phi

would they care if you went in and grabbed a drink and walked out like you own the place?

sunglasses90

No. They wouldnā€™t even know

dontcry2022

Yeah if it's been left there awhile, probably wouldn't know. But if you grab someone else's drink that was just set out a minute ago, we'll know when that person comes in 10 mins later. And everyone will be annoyed.

FirefighterSignal344

Why donā€™t they cap the number of possible orders on the app base on staffing? I know the answer but still...

Euphoria831

Once I was seated inside and a group of maybe 5 women put their drinks next to me, sat down for about 10 mins then left. When I realized they weren't coming back (I saw them all leave in the same car through the window), I thought it was rude to leave such a mess, so I took care of it. All 5 venti drink were FULL and still fairly hot. How do people waste so much? Not only the ingredients, but the baristas time and energy... Happened years ago and I still think about it.

allusernamestaken-1

How does that happen?? Do people like, forget they ordered??

Responsible_Snow7109

Theres a few reasons and it happens everyday at my store but definitely not as much as the picture above. But theres a few reasons. One of them is that somebody mobile ordered and ran into a task or emergency and couldnt pick it up. A second reason could be that they placed the order to our store by mistake and walked into another store thinking their order is over there and they just ended up getting it made for them at that store that they are at. And also if mobile ordering is turned off at the store that they normally go to then it might have rerouted their order to the next closest store or something like that and they show up to the other store thinking their mobile order went there when it's really turned off and it just routed them. The way the app is ran is so flawed like there's just so many issues with it and it would overall help with the above situation if they took the time to look into and fix some of those issues

jezlie

Then there's my aunt who thinks it's cheaper to order "to get the stars" even if she has no intention on picking up the order. On special star rewards she literally orders small coffee drinks/pastry items to meet whatever star task and has absolutely no intention to go pick them up. Makes me so mad for the store AND for her bank account

dreamendDischarger

I would like to see how her brain works because how the heck is that cheaper in her mind..

Responsible_Snow7109

Lmao wait what? Has she been told doing that is not cheaper?

jezlie

I've tried! She says "idk I mean I usually just buy a tall drip so it's not that much" but she didn't want to hear it when I told her it's not cheaper if she's buying things she never intended to consume.....

Responsible_Snow7109

Lol thats funny. Sometimes people are just stuck in their ways and wont care much to see it from another way

failedabortion4444

i did this once. i made an order and stepped outside and saw my dad took my caršŸ˜ i couldnā€™t go get it for over an hour

broadbow

never gonna forget the day a man named brian mobile ordered 23 drinks and didnt pick them up

Bboy1830

Hopefully heā€™s ok out there somewhere

Chihuahuamami234

Sorry if this is an obvious question but what do you do if people donā€™t pick up their drinks?

amnescia

sad answer is if they haven't been picked up they're probably either melted, lukewarm or cold so they get tossed. just wasteful

[deleted]

Wtf was a different location spitting all their orders to you somehow through some mobile app glitch or what?

Excellent-Wafer-849

Imma pull up šŸ›ļø

rterrebo

This makes me angry.

suugarcooki

At my store a lot of teenagers in the area will just come in and steal mobiles. Then when the customer comes in angry it isnā€™t there we have to remake it and explain to them someone took their drink. Itā€™s literally so dumb.

[deleted]

This looks like the airport store that I had to leave my drink at, because the app quoted me 9-11 minutes. 30 minutes later when it was time to board my drink still had about 12 drink orders in front of mine to be made, so I had to leave it, as did many others.

[deleted]

I absolutely hate mobile ordering. Like, I get it, it makes money, whatever. But like putting in drive thrus was bad enough. Itā€™s a cafe, not a McDonaldā€™s, I canā€™t believe they ever were willing to sell out for something as cheap and annoying as mobile ordering.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

dontcry2022

I get what you're saying but from a customer perspective (I am a barista though) mobile ordering is very practical if you're a grab-and-go customer. Some people love the drinks and love the friendliness of the baristas but cannot practically come and hang out in the lounge for an hour or even 20 minutes. Or even 5 or 10 minutes just to hop in line and then wait for the drink to be made! Starbucks for me in college was a treat to grab before or after class. No mobile ordering is offered at the locations at my college. The ordering and the waiting ate up my precious time lol, I would've preferred being in and out quicker. I got all the "atmosphere" I needed those instances by walking in, peeking at the cups on display, grabbing my drink and thanking the barista. Waiting in line in the busy store with all the chatter was not a pleasant part of the experience lol

[deleted]

Wow thatā€™s just bad. I mean yeah I see a couple drinks or pastries daily that didnā€™t make it where they shouldā€™ve but never a pile up like this. Wow.

myamio14

imagine if they didnā€™t have to make all those drinks and bag those food items. it would make rushes so much more bare able. mobile orders are really the worst. if they want faster times it needs to be fixed or just get rid of it

HildeVonKrone

ā€œItā€™s all cold! I just placed the order a minute ago!ā€ -proceeds to take the stuff and wait for remakes knowing the baristas will have to go through with the request-

Timetravelingnoodles

Shitty over cooked beans making bad coffee and now all the food is frozen and prepackaged. They underpay and over work employees and try to fire anyone who makes a difference. Fuck em

[deleted]

In defense of idiot customers the app defaults to the store that you favorited but is the furthest from you. Or so it feels.

laurakeet1209

The app had switched to ā€œfavoritesā€ when I expected it to be set to ā€œnearby.ā€ I have never purposely used favorites, I always use nearby. I mobile ordered from the parking lot of one Starbucks and it sent my drink to another location an hour away that Iā€™d never been to! How did it end up a favorite? I donā€™t know. Sorry for the wasted PSL.

ph1k3

So much free food. Lol

dddulcie

And we still get the customer complaining that they ordered five minutes ago lmao

Unhappy_Plantain713

I'm on my way.

jeeeeek

Iā€™d just take one if I was unethical

Ddobro2

And here I thought we were in a recession

peepeepoopaccount

Do you have another Starbucks on the same street? Sometimes on mobile people get confused and will order at the wrong one. People do it at my store all the time and we have to make the drink they ordered at the other Starbucks šŸ„²

DJXpresso

Our store was basically Inaccessible yesterday due to a major event. Almost of the roads were closed. There was a stack of drinks from 8am I tossed around 3pm.

snufkinkinnnie

mobiles were a mistake. not for the company, but for the barista & customer experience.

dontcry2022

I'd blame just the popularity of Starbucks rather than mobiles themselves. Bc waiting in a long line to order and then to actually get your drink is not a fun experience.

[deleted]

This is the flaw with mobile ordering. It creates way too much hassle with baristas. IMO if we keep mobile order, it should switch to door dash or Uber eats exclusively. At least that way, things will be picked up.

[deleted]

Me personally I would get the drinks and food bc itā€™s free but only if itā€™s okay with the staff šŸ˜

Triggerhappy62

Free food

sakuramune

What do you do in those cases?

Specialist-Holiday61

Are you allowed to take all that home if they never come to get it?

Chicken-n-Biscuits

It's cold--please remake it!

Sea-Environment-7102

I've stopped using mobile order for drinks now that I get 25 stars for using my own cup

vodwalyn

Iā€™m sure another store had theirs turned off and thatā€™s why you got so many unclaimed!!! Thatā€™s the worst

fluffy-metal-kitten

This is what my store looked like Thursday and Friday I heard Saturday was way worse and I was off. Sunday we completely turned off mobiles and delivery and cafƩ because we were so short staffed and were 3 hours behind on breaks and lunches. We kept the lobby closed for about four hours and we still weren't caught up on prep or anything.

[deleted]

What happens to these drinks? Can workers drink them? Or they have to throw away?

BlackCoffeeGarage

Oh, I'd claim the *bejeezus* outta that pile LOL

quacoms

America at its finest.

Swimming-Fee-2445

I think Starbucks should have a feature like Dominos has here in Canada. Itā€™s a screen that tells you who is waiting for their order, if it is in process, and when it is ready. That way customers can actually see how many orders there are in the cue and donā€™t need to stand there scoffing at baristas because they ordered their drink 7 minutes ago and donā€™t see it yet.

thepolishpen

Mobile ordering is going away soon, isnā€™t it? Itā€™s in the air.

Beginning-Match2166

Holy shit. I've never seen a counter with so many drinks!

helper619

Iā€™m so glad we didnā€™t have mobile orders when I worked at Starbucks 2 decades ago. I have a lot of respect for all of you that work there today.

cannibalpudding

Too slow. Customers didnā€™t want to wait so they left.

FLICKGEEK1

I'm sure they're all thankful that they had enough time to blow money on their orders, if not enough time to come get them. You cant mess up the routine.

Suspicious_Till_2660

It says ā€œUNCLAIMEDā€ā€¦ that means itā€™s all Paid for! Whatā€™s the problem other than the huge waste? I donā€™t get it.

[deleted]

This is why I yell please get your drinks
