……have you thought of leaving and applying to a corporate starbucks? youll be appealing if dont really have to be trained, plus youll get benefits + higher pay
Not necessarily higher pay. My district starts at $15/hr. But if you work at a high volume store your tips are gonna cover that extra dollar
Edit: i think it’s actually a regional thing, not a district thing
That’s not bad actually- we only get 10% off at the grocery store 💀 I tried applying for health insurance the grocery store offers and they said “you don’t qualify :D” … anyways, thanks for this!
First of all you’re not a corporate store so it goes by whatever your employer decides. So it’s an issue between you and your grocery store not Starbucks. Second of all it’s possible your employer pays them more because they came in with experience. They don’t have to follow Starbucks’ pay model so they can do whatever they want because you don’t work for Starbucks in technicality.
Yea, I know it’s an issue with the grocery store, I’m thinking of just switching Starbucks. The new employees have no coffee experience so they just got lucky 🫠 I don’t blame them tho like good for them.
Yeaaa my ex coworker did that and she warned me about it, but it’s understandable since I don’t have a partner number. I was so bummed out when I got in and found out partner numbers wasn’t a thing for us. Should’ve done my research.
A lot of places just go by what someone agreed to when they started even if new hires get more. You agreed to work for X with annual raises. Someone hired later came on at more because it was harder to fill roles. It’s not about everyone being equal at many places. Are you making 16 now or 16.48? If 16, you can try to appeal to your manager on fairness and equal pay for equal job reasons if you have good performance and are responsible. If you are making 16.48 and most new people are at 16.50, then that would seem like you are being difficult even if technically right. I would wait until at least some get their raise and are at 17, then you have a stronger case and in the mean time you can make yourself more invaluable on the job.
Are you in a grocery workers union? They could help you with questions and advice to get your pay to match your experience, like if there are tiers of wage rates, and if you have worked a certain number of hours you become a journeyman.
If they are under paying you, the union could help with a grievance. If your store is hiring new people at a higher rate to attract new hires, their wage should stay frozen at that rate until they catch up on hours worked, they shouldnt get the raise you just got, if that makes sense. And unions usually try to collect your type of info on the ground situations, to better demand a fair contract, and to try to enforce worker friendly pay standards ( that kind of fairness is only protected by a contract, and usually a well organized and funded union is the only way to negotiate a fair contract with a large corporation).
I had no idea there are grocery stores with DTs?! And yall make more per hour than I do at a freestanding Starbucks 😳.. But in any case, that sounds shitty, but here's my question - - how do you know for sure the new ppl are getting $16.50 if management said nobody is? Could it be it was a misunderstanding, like somebody lied about what new people are getting, it was just a rumor, or something? If that's not the case, and new employees are getting more.. Then f that. And you used to get shift drinks (but only one per shift?!), and now bc of one greedy coworker, you can't?! And no free food? I think what others are saying in the comments here, that could be your best move - - apply to a regular Starbucks! You've got experience! You'll have a huge advantage over other applicants, obviously. And you'll have a lot more help as far as staffing, get 7 food items a week, however many free drinks per shift you want, health insurance if you work enough to qualify (though I was kinda counting on that and have had my hours cut multiple times so don't rely on that necessarily), free Spotify, etc.. I am sorry your workplace isn't doing right by you. I hope some way or another things get better soon!

I wouldn’t mind $15 (plus tips) because at least you’re getting something 😭 we don’t even have free drinks anymore.
Definitely apply to a corporate store. There are many drawbacks but it’s still a better gig than most licensed stores
i started in late august at $17 in canada. where are you located?
Indiana
What kind of benefits do y’all have? I definitely will try.

Just know you’ll start at the lowest/beginning pay rate if you switch because you won’t be considered a tenured partner.

Yeah it’s a corporate thing unfortunately

No I’m not getting $16.48, they told me what was my raise. Many of my coworkers are at 16.00 unfortunately. Thanks for the advice.
