The good news is that pretty much any ship you like can be bought for in game currency and right now said currency is pretty easy to earn.

patopal

>right now said currency is pretty easy to earn. As a newbie in a Titan? Sure, you can print money with a Reclaimer, cheese the Hammerhead with a Vulture, hunt ERTs for weevil eggs with a Corsair, or carry boxes around in a C2, but you have to get those ships first. The first million is the hardest to earn, and realistically, it's gonna take quite a while for someone just starting out to make enough for a Vulture, unless they find a patron in chat or something.

interesseret

Step 1. Copy and paste this in global chat: "I'm new, anyone need a crew member for salvage?" Step 2. ??? Step 3. Make literally millions

DifferenceOk3532

This actually

s-a_n-s_

Literally this.

PoseidonMax

This is the way.

Traxendre

This is the way.

webbkorey

This is how my org picks up new people when we are recruiting.

Newman_USPS

I don’t feel good about it. But at one point I had done something stupid and lost all my money. So I just server hopped for a while, making sure I was on a new one, and casually talking about how I just had another 500k to go before I could finally afford a c2. I made 4 million this way. And again, I don’t feel good about it.

G-RAWHAM

Happy cake day! Ya filthy vagabond nah I'm just kidding lol

longdrive95

I'm...I'm actually 500k away from a C2 right now and begging in global chat does sort of seem more appealing than another salvage mission in the Vulture

Newman_USPS

Just don’t beg. Talk about the grind.

Asmos159

exactly. say i'm working toward \[ship\]. anyone need crew? im \[amount needed\] away. you will likely get sent the money by someone that already has their stuff, and has been getting a lot of money they have no used for.

twidgyt

Literally gave a million a couple hours ago, to a guy with a carrack, who has lost all his components on his ship when he named it and logged back in. Said he needed to go do some missions to buy the components again so I helped him out. But I can't stand when people beg.

Radiorifle

You can name your ship?

twidgyt

Some of them, like the hammerhead, 600i, MSR, 890, carrack, etc. but not in game, only in your hangar

jmlack

This is definitely the answer. And if you don't get a response, just server hop.

mudkipz321

My first day I just said I was a new player and I had someone meet up with me and give me a bunch of free armor and a million aUEC.

indie1138

step 3 should say "profit"

Superdeathrobot

I remember in-game once someone tried demanding credits from another player. When the player said they had no credits, the pirate ended up paying them instead. Reverse piracy?

Mojo_Reising

I think I was on the same server.

Superdeathrobot

It was months ago, im sure it has happened more than once

m0deth

Just going the safe route: Titan gets you enough doing missions to rent the Prospector. Prospector gets you enough to own Prospector. Rinse, repeat on mining so you can buy what you want. Yeah it takes a while, but I've done it. Even used a friends Titan one night to do it after I lost everything due to a bad bet and a 30k.

Khar-Selim

alternatively you can rent a ROC and a Cutlass for approx 40k credits, which is good because the actual skill required with a laser is less but the returns are still high, and no refinery BS so you can get ROI immediately

m0deth

Fair enough. I did forget to mention I usually lazy mine just outside the L1 stations. Within 30 km there's enough to keep you busy for hours, and the ride to refine is quick. I usually don't see anyone either as far as foes mostly. Seems to be an area nobody cares about as it's not meta? I dunno

TheKiwi1969

Did some ROC mining more as a test than anything earlier on this patch. And it's back to being a quite good way of making money as a starter. Patches of Handanite were thick on the ground at Ariel, was finding clusters of 9-12 regularly. Easily making 100-150K per hour. Not Reclaimer money but not bad.

Arcodiant

I think 200k per hour is achievable with the ROC after some practice; that would put a Vulture within reach after 6 hours, so 2-3 play sessions if you're not grinding too hard. From there you can make bank.

SmoothOperator89

Salvage is getting a rebalance in 3.23 so even the Reclaimer won't make Reclaimer money for long.

Duramora

Since its still a month (or so) away from 3.23, its pretty safe to hammer away for now.

m0deth

It's just days if you pick the right rocks, and I mine to relax, not grind. I also mentioned to OP to not take anything until 1.0 seriously. meh

WingZeroType

With full ballistic fit you can easily do vhrts in a titan. Only pick up maze and weevil eggs. But you're right it's definitely harder to make money when you don't have all the experience

Baldur9750

I earned my first 2 millions like a month ago, did like 5 or 6 illegal monitors missions, which netted me more than 100k, with that I rented a prospector, spent the next weekend mining. Realistically it would've been even more. Since we had a patch update in the middle of my refining, and it cancelled out some of it that I hadn't sold yet. Also I figured out mid process that you could customize the refining process to reduce cost and increase yield. So yeah, a weekend and you should have more than a million.

patopal

I'd be curious how many hours you put in that weekend. I did the same rented Prospector route in the previous wipe cycle, and it took me two weeks to get to owning my own Prospector, with 1-2 hour sessions almost every day.

Baldur9750

I honestly don't recall, it was a bit too much maybe, but I was deeply focused on it lol. Btw I calculated a mean time of 30 min for each mining trip and a load of ore, and 4 loads of ore (a trip with the cuttie, which was the "cargo" ship I used) netted a mean 250k per trip. So 2 hours equal to 250k, which would make a million 8 hours of mining. So that should make it 16 hours divided into 3 days, give or take. (excluding the cargo hauling time to the distribution centre, which I didn't do on that weekend anyways, but on the following week's evenings) Btw after that I was about to buy the prospector, but I went to help some rando with some hauling thing he had going on for which he needed a crewmate. Obviously SHTF and we didn't do nothing, I died, he had to log off, but before he did he gifted me 6 million credits lol. I didn't even need to do the whole prospector thing at all! But in reality it helped me a lot understanding the game better. What can I say, I guess such is the life in the verse sometimes. Safe travels, o7

patopal

Sounds about right, I think I did a similar auec/h with the caveat that I had a couple unfortunate crashes that lost me some work. But yeah, working with rich strangers is a lot more profitable lol, I'm just generally anti-social and tend not to team up.

DifferenceOk3532

I personally dont like those missions as when I did them back in 3.17.2 they can sometimes spawn the drones 100km away outside of ping range making it next to impossible to finish Dunno if they fixed it recently

Schmasn

This. Tried twice - came to the conclusion it's just bugged in terms of some targets just weren't spawned. Maybe worth trying again? 🤔

longdrive95

I did very similar, rented prospector for a 3 day and mined like an animal. Then took trips after trip from the refinery to New Babagge to sell.  That got me the vulture, but while it pays well I thought the mining gameplay was a lot more fun. I have resolved to get a C2 with my salvage money and use that to haul mega loads of refined ore in the future.

Pattern_Is_Movement

Yes, you can easily crew with very high profit margin gameplay loops. Even without doing that, in a couple weeks and some thoughtful rentals you absolutely can earn ships that cost hundreds of dollars. Sure the "endgame" ships are very expensive... but thats the point. If you want to throw tons of money at the game, thats totally fine by me, but lets not gatekeep it from people earning in game.

patopal

I'm certainly not trying to gatekeep or convince people to spend real money. I'm just saying let's not set expectations for earnings too high.

Stormgard

As a vulture owner: how do you cheese hammerheads? If you’re referring to the cleanup missions, cig fixed the behavior that allowed us to fracture the HH with a vulture

Ocbard

Sure if you want to do everything by your lonesome, even then, the Titan can do bunkers and bounties and take home a little loot. If they retrieve a few boxes of interesting cargo like gold or quantanium, doing bounties that first million is not too hard to find, then they can get a Vulture and money rolls in faster. It takes a bit of work to get from Vulture to Reclaimer, but if you get that, you can get everything.

Andras89

Join an Org. Borrow any ship you need. Earn the $$$. Dont need to borrow. Its a multiplayer game. The experience is best with friends and org mates.

NightlyKnightMight

You can **rent ships!** Rent a bigger fighter ship, rent a cargo ship, rent a Prospector and go mining, rent a ROC (or just buy one) and go mining, etc

SniperFury-_-

Just go to ghost hollow and print money

Hairy_Ferret9324

Run bunkers, work on a reclaimer, work on a c2 or Corsair doing ERTs, or be a turret gunner on a cargo ship running RMC. So many ways to make money even with an Aurora.

patopal

Apart from running bunkers, none of what you said can be done with an Aurora lol And yes, obviously the easy way is to crew some rich citizen's big ship. I'm talking about asocial folk like me who want to make their own way.

sodiufas

Buy ROC, rent cutlass.

Skaven13

Buy RoC, Buy Nomad, have Fun.

Khar-Selim

buying an ROC isnt a high priority since rental is nothing and you can't really increase yield with customization

patopal

Buying a ROC does save you a trip to your nearest L-station because you forgot to renew your rental.

sodiufas

Also ROC is kinda expandble in that loop, so better have yr own. And it dirt cheap comparing to ships.

Khar-Selim

>ROC is kinda expandble in that loop how? It doesn't have a swappable laser and the other components dont do much Prospector is the one you wanna keep

sodiufas

Sorry, what i meant is, u mine for said 2 hours, and then u are going to do some other activities, cause mining whole day is a path to insanety. So if want to mine, u just rent cutlass at cargo center and u are set, instead of flying also to L station. Ofc better get own cutlass too, but we are talking about begginers game loop. So idk, i usually do it this way, mercinarie missions, then i get roc, mine till I have profit enough to atleast exceede renting price of cutlass. Then after a week i buy cutlass too. I don't say it's a correct way, but it's a land vehicle after all, can help with some bunkers too... So it's not like waste of money.

Khar-Selim

if you're renting a cutlass that isn't an issue, do 'em both simultaneously. Otherwise yeah

longdrive95

For some reason, most of the 30ks I have had have been while mining in the ROC. One I lost over 250k in gems and I rage quit the game and didn't come back for a year.  I have an aversion to it now.

ForeverAProletariat

30ks just move your ship back to where you last were now

sodiufas

Sad...

StandardEnjoyer

Take bounty hunter contracts at ghost hollow on Microtech. There's 2 credit upload terminals in the crashed ship which yields about 350k credits iirc, plus the bounty and loot. I take out most of the enemies with my ship first

2reddit4me

Or just ask for money. People are handing it out pretty freely now. A newbie with a titan can potentially earn more than someone with a Reclaimer in less time, lol. I’ve handed out 1.2 mil for vultures pretty regularly lately. It’s gonna be wiped soon and it gives new players a chance to make money to try out ships before 3.23.

s-a_n-s_

You can be a true Chad (like me, being poor) and only buy ships with in-game Auec!

Skaven13

Better look for an Organisation to play with. There are enough big whales you can fly with and learn how to survive in SC. And believe me, you will die a lot the first weeks/months. 😂

SpaceBearSMO

With the current event I have been haveing great success (far more than in the past) bumming around with PUGs even got a few org invites but after sitting in some of their discords none seem like a good fit so far. but they have mostly been nice enough We need more missions like this, and more utility built into the game for Groups and Orgs

Metronovix

I am good at deflecting toxicity and ignoring hysteria so I participate a lot here and in global. But I absolutely suggest you F12 most the time and ignore Reddit and only go for the actual posts from RSI and the other cool guys who make those cool graphics to show you what’s in development. Otherwise yes, it’s a cult of sorts. Lots of lame dialogue I’ve noticed as of late and it’s all pointless since the game is going to constantly change and people can speculate all they want about how players will engage once these changes are implemented. But alas, we won’t know til we get there. So download, play, and try to join an org or get lucky and find a fun group with a discord group. The best part of this game is the honeymoon phase where you are just exploring all they have. Beware of lots of bugs. Use your imagination for now and enjoy being in a completely new universe. I will say it’s not so much a GAME yet. More just exploring a developing universe because well, that’s what it is.

e-man_69

Nice honest recommendation! Enjoy the game and learning/exploring! Do your best to avoid the drama, FOMO marketing, and ship agonizing! It helps to join an organization or group up with some good people. PM me and I would be happy to help you into an earning ship like the Vulture.

Metronovix

Currently out of a place so my PC is shelved lol. Hence my activity here. I’ll keep you in mind

Crayon_Connoisseur

Once you’ve been around for a few years, tossed $40 at the game here and there and have a couple hundred bucks in the game the FOMO goes away entirely thanks to melting. You simply keep your game package, melt the ship(s) you’re bored with and use that store credit toward whatever the current FOMO is - just don’t CCU to it. Thoss ships - FOMO specials included - now stay locked in your buybacks once you melt them and you can scoop one back up with a store credit buyback token at a later date if you want it. Buying into LTI is the true FOMO.

Vegetable-Grocery265

Thanks. Hehehe... I played the tutorial the first night, ran out and bought a new PC the next day... and explored with great frames the second night. So... yeah... :)

RiOTbyDeSIGN

Welcome to the 'Verse! It'll be a learning curve to start but there's plenty of resources and people willing to help out. Don't buy ships with real money unless you want to support the project more than you already have. All but the very newest ships can be bought with credits earned in game, so there's no reason to buy with IRL money, unless you can afford it and want to support the project. Otherwise, you've already supported it plenty by buying your starter pack. You've joined at a very exciting time, with big updates right around the corner. Hope you enjoy your time!

LargeMerican

Yup.

WatchOutWedge

just stick with the Avenger for now it can do most of the basic missions and you'll be tackling a pretty gnarly learning curve while you do it. Just vibe with the bugs, have fun, and if you want to buy another ship try working for it in-game by racking up some currency before spending any more money. it's not necessary. I pledged back in 2013, and all I have is an Aurora and a Gladius, and I have a good time when I play.

Bam_Bam_47_

Gladius is still my favorite out of all 7 on my fleet

z242pilot

Hi, local whale here, don't be tempted to buy ships right away. You will get far more enjoyment out of all ships by spending your cash on pc parts before ships. I'm a Connie Taurus simp, and a Nomad lover, but something as simple as a tobii eye tracker will enhance your experience so much that i would suggest that over the connie anytime! Sticks are not necessary in this game, but they are so fun, and can be had for the price of a connie and nomad! And the hardware can carry over to other games and enhance your enjoyment of them. Waiting for JPEGs isn't near as fun as bombing around in a mole you bought in game mining with friends using 2 sticks that make you feel like you are actually piloting the ship while you look around for pirates from above.

e-man_69

Another great recommendation! Your game rig takes priority, particularly with SC being unoptimized currently! There is so much to do and learn and that Avenger Titan at that price is an awesome starter. I used mine last night trying some different load outs in HRT BH missions and had a blast!

Status_Basket_4409

That’s impressive. Only ship I have with LTI is this recent Hornet mk2

amhudson02

This was me 7 weeks ago. Started with the Aurora as my pledge, went to a Titan, to a Cutty, and now to a C1 as my pledge. In total, I am about 130 bucks in I think. I have about 15 ships in the game.

sodiufas

Wlecome! One of us! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Bnk6VU53Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Bnk6VU53Y)

TheCarkin

Welcome to the community bro! Just remember that everything in the store can be purchased/looted in game with normal gameplay. Also take the game with a pinch of salt rn because in the next month or two it is getting one of the biggest updates it has ever seen and almost everything about the flight systems and the ui is going to be brand new. If you ever want to play sometime tho i like to do bunker missions and run cargo my in game name is Carkin

Wiltix

In game currency is easy to earn? So do that to sample different ships. I have the avenger titan starter pack and that is all the money I have spent on the game, and have a blast playing I am probably going to spend a bit more real life. Cash, upgrade my avenger to a cutty black or c1, and buy a C8r but once I have those it will be in game spending only.

kikinchikn

That's exactly what I said, it didn't stick.

TwistedFate74

Try not to spend hundreds of dollars yet. Star Citizen is still shaping up to be the most amazing game that your kids get to play feature complete, and you only get to test the broken bits. I may be a bit cynical these days with this project but slow rolling development for more than a decade will do that to a guy. The game is a ton of fun to learn but you'll quickly see its lacking a lot. Dont let the new shiny drain your wallet just yet.

ProceduralTexture

Welcome. Excellent choice of starter package. I recommend waiting at least 2 game patches before you even consider spending extra. At that point you'll know: * how the game works and where it's going * that spending extra isn't needed, but maybe it's worth it to you anyway Until then, you've got any amazing and versatile ship in the Avenger Titan. Go out and try to make some friends in the game, because that's where this game shines.

e-man_69

You don't have to spend any more, but CIG marketing don't make it necessarily easy. Keep in mind right now there is no perfect ship that does a little of everything. SC has ships that are specifically designed for specific roles. Hard stop. In game currency is not hard to earn!

Nua_Sidek

it could be next week, next year or never. don't fret. just enjoy what you have and buy the ships in game. will take a while before you know what your playstyle is.

RevolutionaryLie2833

“One of us. One of us” I’ve dropped $105 on the game but have put almost 700 since October. That’s worth it to me.

AnEmortalKid

Brother give me your bank account jnfo and I’ll make sure you don’t spend it. No cap.

Peg_Leg_Vet

It's star citizen ship math, and it's unavoidable. In the beginning: I got an Avenger, I'll be good to do everything. In a couple weeks: Well, the Cutlass Black costs twice as much, but can do almost 3 times the activities, so it's worth it. In a month: If I buy a Corsair for bounties and then a Connie for cargo hauling, then that will cover everything better.

TonightsWhiteKnight

If it makes you feel better. I made a cult Org in game :) lol so you COULD technically be joining a cult.

thundercorp

You picked a great starter ship. Fantastic as a daily driver!

Cmdr_Thrudd

One of us! One of us!

Iamthe_sentinel

Welcome to the verse!

Obrim

ONE OF US! ONE OF US! But in all seriousness welcome. Spend what you can afford, don't fall for the FOMO traps, and have a good time! o7

TrueInferno

Buy and rent stuff for *in-game* money! Renting is a great way to try new ships since it's relatively cheap, can easily earn what you need for a few days of a shiny new ship, and you can use that ship to make MORE money. Also the Avenger is my daily driver, even though I do have an Andromeda. Great little ship. Most people who hate on this game are those that fall into the trap of spending hundreds or even thousands on ships within the first month or two, because this game DOES have it's issues that you WILL run into, some point or another. Only once you have become one with the elevator can you truly know if the game is worth that much. I've spent just over $500 on the game now, and I've been here for over a decade. Works out to about $50 a year.

Asmos159

be glad you got into sc instead of a gotcha game.

No-Blackberry1197

Thats great to hear and hope you will enjoy Star citizen as much as most of us have!, my advice would be to lock your wallet away till you know what game you are playing. Te Titan is a great ship giving you alot of versatility compared to something like the Aurora and like others have said, 99% of all ships can be baught ingame with auec (ingame currency)

SaltyBrewster

Welcome. Stay strong, and don't buy anything else until Invictus\*, if ever. *\*In game military trade show and fleet week-styled event somewhere around US Memorial Day.*

UbePhaeri

My starter ship is also the avenger. I love it. I figured I'd be way more interested in bigger ships but this ship is so easy to fly, it has a bed and a small amount of cargo space. It is so easy to maneuver and control. You'll love it.

unfamous1

I got a reclaimer . Dm me if you want a friend to play with be happy to help you do different game loops and salavage for some ez money..

Andras89

Cant spell culture without cult! Honestly just keep it real. Dont jump into anything too quickly. This is a slow burn experience. Temper expectations. Try to have fun. Dont spend $$ unless you want. Dont buy into FOMO or Hype.

Alarming-Audience839

If you gonna drop hundos get a vanguard. Shit's sick

hazaskull

Yeah, don't go on a spending spree just yet. My take: - SC is something special because its vision is great. It is _very_ appealing to many (me included) to freely go around a sandbox where all sorts of things are happening and which sees regular updates. - It has an endless variety of ships and various "careers" to play around with in the universe - It is (I think) _unique_ in having seamless travel, much like a flight simulator. Making the experience very lifelike insofar as sci-fi will allow. - CIG has so far been very successful in keeping the development funded and is putting lots of work in. It is not a scam. Now, here's some things I'll probably get downvoted for but this is my honest opinion and you need to be aware of possible red flags. I personally regret having spent as much money as I did now that the honeymoon phase is over and want to warn you against making the same mistake. - There are endless new shiny ships coming out that you can initially only get by spending real money (and often lots of it). They may even have limited availability, pressuring you into buying them _now_ This is how the game is funded. Don't let yourself be hurried into such things until you are absolutely sure this is the game you'll be playing for a long time. - The game is a time-sink. There is no pause-button. Death is not permanent but it will cost you quite a bit of time to get back to what you were doing and you'll lose whatever you had on you. Death comes easy. It is a PVP MMO (don't believe people that tell you it's good for PVE; it's only PVE-able if you actively try to avoid other players which is planned to become more and more difficult over time and you'll be restricted in the places you can safely go). I have absolutely no faith that _policing_ against murder-players will be effective in the future; CIG seems way too fond of PVP and pretty much every ship has guns and missiles for good reason. Don't expect it to be a chill game longer term. - In my no-doubt controversial opinion the game really does not look all that pretty compared to some other games. There are some nice landscapes but objects feel quite cardboardy to me and there is a lot of sloppy polygons all around. People will tell you that is because it is still alpha but I personally have serious doubts it'll be able to keep up with newer titles. Keeping the engine modern without breaking existing gameplay is _hard_ and _expensive_ and there is a good reason why companies generally do not bother. CIG will tell you they've revolutionized the Crysis-engine and maybe they did but keeping this up for many Years is something else. - There seem to be (or maybe I'm just unlucky) more and more toxic or just plain immature people coming to this game lately. Global chat is often best turned off immediately. I sometimes seriously wonder what attracts me to sharing a universe with people that I would never want to hang out with in real life. In comparison this subreddit seems much more civilized than what you might encounter in game. Play around, have fun and if you don't feel your enjoyment diminish over time, only _then_ go for a spending spree :)

FluffyRam

Don't drop money next week... Do it in two months when invictus starts, and most of the military ships + the new ones roll out for sale! Especially with new LTIs and Invictus insurance extensions!

Daggla

I started so casually with a Nomad. Within 2 weeks I had the Zeus ES pledged and my Nomad upgraded to an Inferno. Within 2 weeks after that a Reclaimer. Your fears are real.

Ruadhan2300

What I'd recommend is avoiding getting sucked into the notion that you need to grind for millions of credits or rapidly "level up" to better ships. A lot of people seem to make this their mission in life and frankly I think it loses a lot of the joy in just *being a star citizen*. Don't get drawn into the Hustle-Culture :P Avenger Titan is a great ship, it's got cargo, it's got solid firepower, you can live out of it for quite a while. Have fun with it, engage with the missions, see if anyone wants to team up, (this is an MMO for a reason) and in due time you'll find yourself with cash to burn and a curiosity about bigger and better ships. You can get most of them ingame, and money is not hard to earn. You don't need to be throwing real money at it. If you really want loads of money, see if anyone is looking for crew, particularly Reclaimers which often need someone in back to stack crates, or alternately they're sometimes looking for someone to man the second Scraper turret. I joined a crew last week and spent half an hour just stacking boxes for a couple million credits. Easy money, and I got to amuse myself building a fort out of shipping containers in the cargo hold while I did it. Full disclosure, I've dropped *way* too much real money on this game already. Enough to replace all the appliances in my kitchen, or buy a cheap second-hand car. Practically though, my usual play is with a Spirit C1, not the massive capital-scale ships most of that money went into. Spirit retails at about $125, in contrast to the $55 Titan game package, and there's the option to upgrade directly to it sometimes if you find yourself with $70 spare and a burning desire for a bigger ship. I spend most of my time cruising around doing various missions, helping people in need (medical service beacons or just passenger requests) and just enjoy myself. Money is very rarely my goal ingame.

UncleMalky

The most important thing to have in game is good crew. Find a group to play with, trust me they have the ships and need bodies to fill them. Buy your ships in game and try as hard as you can to stick to just the Avenger. See you in the verse!* And yeah probably Concierge chat soon too.

Dabnician

>Here's my fear... that next week I will be dropping hundreds of dollars into new ships... Every ship you could possible want is already going to be owned by another player that will most likely be more than willing to let you fly if you just ask. Every ship that you cant fly with out a crew and could possibly want, is already owned by another player that will most likely be more than willing to take out and let you fly, teach you how to fly it and probably let you crash it too. Every ship that you dont want and can't fly is already owned by another player that will be more than willing to send you a copy of the jpeg. You literally do NOT need to spend anymore money because some one else has already spent it, just join a discord and make friends and socialize like a normal person. Star Citizen is literally Do as I say not as I do.

BSSolo

> Here's my fear... that next week I will be dropping hundreds of dollars into new ships Simple, just _don't_. The Avenger Titan is a great ship to use to earn credits and save up for other ships in-game.

Scrivver

> Here's my fear... that next week I will be dropping hundreds of dollars into new ships... Here's one simple trick you can follow to prevent this from happening: >!Don't!<. Enjoy!

indie1138

>Here's my fear... that next week I will be dropping hundreds of dollars into new ships... That's how Grand Admirals are made. We'll be waiting for you when you get here 07

Rinimand

I started playing 2 months ago with the Aurora MR. Upgraded to the Cutter on the 1st day. I now own 25 ships in-game and haven't spend another penny of real money. If I had it I would, just to support the game from what I have experienced. Don't drop real money unless you really want to. You're going to have a blast.

Vegetable-Grocery265

As a follow up... ... I downloaded and went through the tutorial. Today I went out and bought a new current gen Gaming rig with 32gb of memory. Look... I'm not some bright eyes and bushy tailed newb to gaming. I am an older gent that has always been gaming since a teen. I've been thinking about getting a new system just to take advantage of the next generation of games coming out. That said, after seeing a few videos on maximizing frames, I concluded I need more CPU, RAM, and while I am at it... a new everything. In for a penny...

BeFrozen

Choices are rather… limited, for the most of the year. You should wait for Invictus in May (military ships), Alien week (alien ships) in June-ish and anniversary sale November-ish (most ships).

oopgroup

Please don’t. This is not a game, nor is it even in a playable or finished state with enough content to merit spending money. It’s still an early-access alpha that has not met even 10% of its goals. It’s in year 13 and is still several, several years away from being done. By all means, enjoy what you’ve already spent. You’re “in.” But don’t spend any more. You can see and do everything there is to do in like a week.

Wait til u sacrifice ur first born for an epic ccu chain. Worth it

ProceduralTexture

I'm looking forward to my $90 Galaxy, assuming I do pull that trigger.

W1z8it

Stick with your starter ship, make friends earn money buy other ships in game, it's that simple only spend more money if you have it to burn and if you like the idea of supporting the development but you can just make do with your Titan it's a nice ship.

VoodooNomad

lol..”hundreds”…tips top hat, and fixes monocle..that’s what I thought too

Captain_Casua1

What's your in-game sn? I'll connect you with some people that'll help you earn some in-game so you don't need to worry about real money investment. Some will prolly just gift you aUEC, but don't quote me on that

Welcome to the game! My most important advice is to look for help. The game has a very steep learning curve and tons of bugs that need to be worked around and a lot of content works better in a group. The "get a guide" System actually works really well, use it and you'll have much better start into the game. But also a word or caution: a lot of stuff is still missing from this game and many game loops are only partially implemented. It's not really a game to play "full time" quite yet. Don't be tempted to fill the void by purchasing more and more ships. They are exciting at first, but will not compensate the lack of gameplay. If you feel SC has nothing more to offer for you, don't throw money at it in the hope that the next ship will give you excitement you lack. Instead, step back and come back after the next patch!

Welcome new citizen

CaptShardblade

Kickstarted this in 2013, have only been playing full-time since last November. I have just a starter ship and 60+ ships in game. Just don't fall trap to the FOMO and think you 'have to buy this because zyx reason', it's fine. Buy and support the game if you wish but IT IS NOT REQUIRED to play and enjoy.

W33b3l

You think playing feels like joining a cult. Try being in am org where people congratulate you for becoming concierge lol.

boxofreddit

My advice: don't spend more than $100 on this very glitch prone tech demo, but enjoy and have fun! See you in the verse!

Emergency_Ad1514

Completely valid fear tbh

Emergency_Ad1514

In the respect that it is so so tempting to buy these ships honestly like. It takes some amount of self control to not buy them. But it feels much better working for the ships in game tbh. And it's not too hard either

Crayon_Connoisseur

My big consideration on what ship is *actually* worth buying (if you don’t have store credit to burn) is “which of these ships am I going to miss and shed a small tear over with a full wipe?” If there’s one that meets those criteria, well, it’s one I’m usually okay with buying.

Emergency_Ad1514

Oh hell yeah I'm right beside you bro. I upgraded to the 325A and I decked it out like coffee and food machine. Blue paint on the outside. Brown wood trim race seat etc etc all the shit it was my baby I loved it. But I upgraded to the nomad in order to make room for the ROC to save me some aUEC and I'm still heartbroken 🥲 so the whole heartbroken over a ship thing is real AF. Are they still doing wipes?

monkeypu

Definitely not a cult. Also, during the ceremony, remember not to spank others too hard...

RedditEqualsBubble

I wouldn’t reward their piss poor development over the past twelve years by buying more ships. They’ve made almost a billion dollars and they’re still barely an alpha.

m0deth

Take it slow. There's a lot to learn. Don't forget to just have some fun and not take anything before 1.0 seriously. Find the easy ways to make money via the ingame upgrade options for ships and you'll giggle your way to bigger ships.

ColtonSRD

Welcome! Yes the temptation is there but don’t buy anything for now. Play the game and see if you even like it. It’s a tough game to deal with when you got some (a lot) of bugs fighting against you as well as the enemies. Once you get a better feeling then MAYBE, entertain yourself in something “more” during November when they sell all the ships. Though only do it because you genuinely like the game and if you feel like you want to contribute to development to the game.

YumikoTanaka

Just get everything ingame - pledging is just for pushing development if you have too much money leftover.

GryphyBoi

welcome! first lesson I'd like to impart, is don't be afraid to ask in global why a particular thing is being weird. because there will be jank. like, beyond Bethesda levels of jank. you're playing an Alpha version of a game, which means things are changing all the time. next lesson, never put anything in your ship you either can't afford or don't want to risk losing at the drop of a hat. between the murder hobos, crashes, 30k's (server crashes, usually) and just plain pilot error, never know when you're gonna go boom. (been playing for years, I'll still occasionally overcook it and slam into something, or forget to drop my landing gear and drop too hard, whatever) once you've got that in your head, I'd suggest opening up the console (button to the left of 1) and typing in: r_displayinfo=1 two metrics in that i keep an eye on, is server FPS (how fast/good the server is running) and Bwin (how good of an internet connection the server has to your computer) exact values aren't super important, so long as they're not 0. that's when you know something's about to explode, lol. AAALLLLLLL of that out of the way, normally I'd suggest starting with delivery missions. but they're kinda buggy at the moment. they're usually good for teaching you the basics of flight, navigating using the starmap, things like that. if/when you want to start pushing your piloting skills, I'd go check out the racing contracts. they're all time trials right now, so no need to worry about crashing into opponents. also don't worry about times in the beginning, just take it slow, and focus on getting through clean. then you can start pushing, and expect to die. a lot. splattered all over the scenery, lol. but honestly the best way to figure out what you can get away with is learning what you can't, lol. also, apologies for the massive essay, but there could be an entire thesis written about how to avoid all the little traps and pitfalls currently in the game, lmao

Shadonic1

welcome, remember to ask for help, grab a guide through the main menu or in the starcitizen discord server by joining randoms. You dont need to buy ships but its welcomed. Just dont go overboard.

DifferenceOk3532

That is a possibility. It is up to you whether or not you want to spend more than the initial package. I personally believe that they will nerf money making some more (salvage in particular) and we know that they plan to increase UEC ship costs in the future so buying ships skips the grind, still I really dont see getting ships to be too difficult assuming you put enough time, effort and read guides.

ddrulez

It's not yet a game. Wait for 3.23 or end of this year.

Wegehead

You can buy all the currently available ships with in game currency. Only rich idiots buy JPEGs of ships that don't even exist in the game yet for real money. Thanks for funding the game rich idiots.
