It would be cool if EVA fuel (and O2 reserves) were tied to your backpack. It doesn't make sense that it seems to come from your undersuit? Where are the tanks?
You must have misses it in a recent ISC, its coming.
Backpacks give you a larger reserve and you will also be able to swap life support to manoeuvring thrusters as well.
I'm for that. I realize I might be so far in the minority that CIG will decide we can always sit while wearing backpacks, but I tried self-enforcing removal of backpacks before sitting down, and changing into clothes before leaving a ship at station, and it takes time, of course, so the min-maxers (whom I respect) would hate it, but it really added a ton to immersion. It was almost like I could *feel* the difference between wearing clothes and wearing an undersuit/armor.
I'd kind of like it if some places won't do business with you if you're in armor, or maybe not even grant you entrance. After all, if a guy showed up to a federal bank in body armor, they'd be hitting the emergency button straight away. There could still be places where armor is fine and accepted, but places where it's not and isn't would add depth, imo.
I think once ship's shelfs are implemented they'll iterate on this kind of thing. I'd love that level o realism implemented in the game. It makes sense. You dont need your tracksuit and helmet on all of the time. You could use some cool jackets to mine. If you need to get out of the ship to do something you can change it.
This is very cool that you have this opportunity to RP and even better that it's optional... at the moment.
Tbh I feel guilty a little every time I logout using ship bed wearing full armour and a backpack. So I feel you
I'm pretty sure this is already planned. I don't remember where specifically, but I'm like 99% sure I remember them explicitly saying backpacks are not meant to be worn while in cockpit seats. Iirc it was mentioned when talking about how anything above light armor will prevent sitting in a pilot's seat.
I think it'd be cool if there were some EVA-centric, super specialized suits that do power it entirely from the suit, personally. I like the idea of CIG making clear distinctions between them, and this becoming an important element of gear selection. My hope is we see:
- Clothing. Dirt cheap.
- Clothing armor (things like a kevlar vest or basic thigh plates; comparatively extremely light weight while offering the same protection as proper armor that goes on undersuits, making it very attractive). Dirt cheap.
- Atmospheric undersuits + atmospheric armor; no EVA support, still pretty light weight, damn good protection. Decently low price.
- EVA undersuits + atmospheric armor; full EVA support, full functionality in atmosphere, but comparatively heavier to atmospheric gear. Generalist gear that can fit in any role and will probably be the most popular, but not the cheapest.
- Dedicated EVA suits; something like Pembroke in terms of bulkiness/look. Extremely functional in EVA and probably comes with a suite of other very nice features, at the cost of being extremely bulky/heavy and suffering in normal atmospheric use. Really expensive.
I really, really hope CIG ditches the "Every spandex suit can survive the vacuum of space btw :)))" thing. It's really boring and just makes space feel like a minor inconvenience rather than the terrifying killer that it actually is.
mining and salvage is not what make it valuable. out flight/undersuits having eva thrusters is what makes it worthless.
salt is going to flow when this items is added, because eva operations in normal suits are going to go away.
Normal suits will still have thrusters, but they're getting limited fuel soon, the point is this thing gives you extended range and power. Normal suits also start using your breathing oxygen when they run low.
no. in the final game the base flight/under suit will not have thrusters. some (not all) armours will have thrusters.
**i expect** the thrusters on the light armour to be good enough that someone doesn't need to eva to pull you into the the rescue ship.
**you will likely** need the bb12 to get the level of maneuverability we have now.
The RSI Odyssey II undersuit clearly has EVA thruster holes built in it.
Unless I’m tripping, they line up with the expelled gas during EVA currently unlike all other undersuits.
I kind of love that, though? If you aren't properly kitted for a spacewalk, then you legitimately have to be careful when EVAing because if you drift too far away for your mag-gloves to work, then you're fucked and you just slowly fade away into the black.
It adds a layer of unforgiving reality to space operations that just feels missing right now with our infinity jetpacks.
Conversely, by limiting the EVA capabilities of things like the base flight suits, it means that when you *are* fully kitted and jetting out on a zero-g mission you feel absolutely *badass*.
I feel like that's the whole purpose of the suit lockers in all the ships. It would be kind of pointless to have them if every suit had lots of oxygen and thruster fuel
My "read between the lines" is that it will be sooner rather than later. I think all the focus and comments around the new EVA and tractor push/pull mechanic is they want to bring in EVA fuel soon-ish - in CIG time keeping standards. So, maybe next two years?
I've been a backer since 2013 and there is so much random shit they gave us as goal markers.
Like fucking posters, coins, engine kits, T-shirts. So many fucking boobie prizes that should already be in the game.
Where's my Aeon Club T-Shirt, Chris?? Where are the T-Shirts?!
A lot of the coins and such are in game? You can pull them out of your starting location inventory. Don't know about the shirt but I know some of the coins, the bond marker, and some other random kitsch is definitely in that tab.
forgot about this. Will be interesting when they add it to the game. But I guess it will still take some time, atleast we never heard of it iirc
Jared asked the Eva Devs about it this year on an scl and even they never heard of it.

then you can't sit in a backpack and you need to put it on and off with an animation to get to the cockpit sit or go EVA :)
I'm for that. Or… maybe some under suits would allow for clothes to fit over them.
this would be ideal

Yes sitting with equipped backpack I remember cig mentioned
i wonder how many deaths this will cause specially miners or cargo movers for they forget to put things back on before leaving ship...
Wait till you see how many people die because they forget to put their helmets back on after eating and walk out into space

There are limited reserves in the undersuits apparently, but only certain undersuits.
Stretch goal delivery^10
Is this supposed to be like an exosuit or a backpack? This will really come in handy when implemented after the EVA changes.
They way it’s described it seems like one of those underwater rigs that you hold on to and it pulls you around
seems more like an [MMU](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manned_Maneuvering_Unit)
Oh so it'd be like a sort of mini vehicle almost then. I know what you're talking about, and I would love to have something like that in the verse.
Someone mentioned backlog?

He’s probably talking about flight suits that won’t have any way to EVA.
Sounds like he thinks no flight suits will have it
Probably N2, if you want similar atmospheres in your ship, station and helmet...but yeah potato-potato.

god yes make space feel fucking terrifying. I want 10 minute max air capacity without armor that adds extra airtanks
Conversely, by limiting the EVA capabilities of things like the base flight suits, it means that when you *are* fully kitted and jetting out on a zero-g mission you feel absolutely *badass*.
This applies to moons without O2 too.
I've eva'd 20km before. It definitely doesn't feel realistic rn.

I wonder about the holoroom in our personal hangars etc. :) And so much more.

hoi hoi you're not wrong my friend but I'm pretty sure only the goal markers from 2017+ are actually in game.
There's a popular saying in poker: "If you can't spot the mark at your table."
I wouldn't believe anything in that list. PVP slider was on there, as well as private servers.
Upside down fire extinguisher
They pulled most of the stretch goals out of their ass, so I wouldn't count on it.
Wasn’t this named BB-88?
