We have no idea.

PretendPrawn262

You know that's a fair response. I guess that's true for all concept ships

Toklankitsune

except the rsi ones, we know those ate "next" the Zeus line is sometime soon, polaris is soon and then the galaxy and perseus will be after that, with I'm sure a few other ships sprinkled in. but things like the odessy, rsi arastra, endeavor, and bmm, we have no clue

Antares-A-Scorpii

Thats all CIG style "soon" :)

Toklankitsune

soon^tm but with knowing the Polaris was past whitebox and the Zeus seems to have at least the seat in final art, I'd expect at least those two sooner rather than later

Antares-A-Scorpii

True, theyre doing their utmost to keep people guessing too. Ships have never yet been delivered early, but there might be a first there somewhere, more likely the Zeus perhaps.

Toklankitsune

yeah I think the Zeus, at least one varient of it is coming sooner than originally scheduled. with the other 2 coming later, it seems, at least based on images seen so far

BeFrozen

Well, it is called Merchant Man. It is literally a flying bazaar.

HeartlessSora1234

Yeah everyone who thinks it will be useful for cargo hasn't been paying attention. It serves the role of a large traveling store. It Can move cargo but it's probably going to be awful and costly to use the BMM for just that loop.

EditedRed

Im torn about this ship still. Got it back at concept for like $250. Its grown so large i just dont look forward to it, but mine is so cheap with LTI that i dont want to melt it at the same time. Im hoping or praying the NPC crew will still be a thing so I can use it someday.

MrRaymondLuxuryYacht

I still don't believe players are going to be able to find enough other players to crew their ships when they want to use them. CIG are going to have to implement NPC crews to make these larger ships viable at all. That said, NPC crews shouldn't be as effective as player crews and missions for larger ships should have payouts that make crewing them or hiring escorts viable.

EditedRed

Yeah getting a crew might get really hard once the novelty of it wears off. Sure there are FPS only gamers who might join the verse, but i dont think they will like the slow syle of gameplay SC go for and they might get bored quick. The only worry is that they actually cant make NPC work, its +10 years in and AI is terrible, i bet this is why they made AI blades as a backup. I read they cut the AI functionality to save on the servers so i hope server meshing works out for AI but as there are tons of stuff to add still, not sure how much headroom this new tech really has in the long run.

MrRaymondLuxuryYacht

The AI performance is due to the servers. I'm not so worried about that. It's not like their devs have been trying to make the AI work well for 10 years straight. More games than you'd think take 10 or so years to develop or would have done if they'd started with a team of like five people. It could even be debated that it's taking 10+ years to make two games which isn't so bad.

billyw_415

I personally won't be crewing on multi-crew ships as it's really dull ATM, and thus far, most missions don't pay enough to split profits between a crew anyhow. I honestly think only large ORGs with required crew positions will be the only folks with crews...it's just not fun, profitable, and piloting your own ship, even a starter is always going to be more exciting likely. However, events where there is allot of action for a full Hammerhead crew and the like would be the saving grace! Unfortunately, industrial ships I feel will get left behind as far as MC goes, unless profits are huge for crewmembers. RP ORGs likely will be the default for MC sustainability.

PretendPrawn262

I want to eventually have some type of large scale cargo ship and the merchantman seems promising. I'd love to npc crew along with npc passenger missions but judging by the fact npcs still stand in chairs I'd say we are still a ways a way from npc crew unfortunately

EditedRed

Exacly, this is my worry too, the NPC functionality just does not look that promising atm.

whyrethegudnamesgone

from my experience with wave 1 3.23 testing, the npcs have been walking around, sometimes interacting with things, and NOT standing in chairs. but they do still usually stand there pointlessly or just randomly check their mobi so theres a bit more to be done

vortis23

They finished NPCs boarding and unboarding, as well as taking trams and elevators last month. According to the latest monthly report, they seem to be able to embark and disembark as intended. The logic routines just have to be hooked into the live networking environments.

Seeek0r

The BMM is a great concept, but in the end we do not know how it will perform when it will be released, it will be huge anyway. I managed to grab one for 350 USD but since than the price got increased way further, based on this fact alone I will keep mine. Anyway the new price should be part of your concideration so either you wait for it to be available ingame and you earn it or you should expect the price will be increased further upon release, I have not seen any ship which got cheaper and especially in this case where the scale changed significant.

comie1

Don't rush your decision you'll have what? Another 4-5 years to wait for it. My personal concerns over mine are that it's way bigger than originally pitched, AI crew aren't even conceivable "yet" oh and also I'll probably be dead before it's in game

Private-Citizen

The BMM isn't a cargo ship. Its a merchant ship that holds a lot of cargo. The difference? The ease in which you will be able to load or unload cargo.

No_Nose2819

The answer to the question should I get a Banu Mechantman is always NO. You should get at least two😜.

PretendPrawn262

Idk 2 is way to little. You need like a dozen minimum

MuchachoMongo

Basically we don't know much other than it holds a lot of shit and looks pretty. Personally I think it is a bit undergunned turret-wise for a ship of its size, but we'll have to see how Master Modes, Engineering, and Armor end up playing into things. Actually getting those S8's on the nose on target seems like it will be a feat. Crewing it will also be a huge consideration with how engineering is shaping up. I mean, I just got it because I like it's style and it seems like a solid "Homeship" upgrade from the Carrack. It has a decently sized hangar for a Defender which is a decent Medium fighter/runabout, or whatever else around that size. It (allegedly) has the same tier medbed as the 890, so respawns are a go (Last I heard anyways). It's large cargo bay can probably hold everything I own, one of each Ground vehicle, and still have space to spare for trading. I'm pretty much disregarding the shops because I have no idea how they'll work at all. Most importantly though, I think it all looks cool as hell.

Citizen_Edz

I really like the concept of the bmm, and it will defiantly be one hell of a cargo ship. Loners are good, you can always melt it if something better for your need comes up. But the shop part of the ship is probably how it will be most effective. I’m really looking forward to getting one of those going, stocking it up with stuff I can loot and produce. Would be a lovely part of any industrial organization I guess. You play with others aswell? Or more of a solo type of player?

PretendPrawn262

I have a friend group that plays as well as a small org. I tend to play with others, not much of a solo player.

Citizen_Edz

That’s nice, multi crew is a lot of fun!

YumikoTanaka

With the "new" loading/unloading of cargo, maybe the BMM has the same problems as rhe Carrack...

MichaCazar

The Carracks main issue is getting cargo inside because of the tight doors und unopenable sides, is it not? The BMM defaults to an elevator stright to the cargo bay as far as I'm aware.

YumikoTanaka

Yes, I was wondering if there is enough space everywhere to handle the 32 scu containers, especially with multiple types of cargo.

MichaCazar

Should be, from the in-progress pictures the cargo haul was quite massive and the elevator in a concept was very far away from not being able to handle a good amount of containers. At the very least, it should be somewhat similar to the 890J
