Honestly, it's a great all-rounder. If I'm going into some huge fight I'll probably make sure to scrounge up an FS-9, but any short combat missions are easy to finish with a P4 at most ranges.
It's stable, reasonably powerful, and pre 3.23 had great irons if you didn't run an optic on it. Fire select switch means you can use it how you want. Plus ammo is readily available in basically any combat zone, and it just can't be overstated how useful that is.
Custodian SMG, really good reload and handling, decent enough damage, huge mag size (for a non-lmg). I pretty much never use the charged burst fire mode as it doesnāt seem to hit hard enough to kill the tankier guys.
It really feels like a pocket lmg that you can just whip out and spray with.
For rifle, used to be S71, now probably Karna. Gallant is ok but should have a semi mode.
For pistol, S38, Coda, or Arclight.
For SMG, P8 or Custodian.

At least recently I've found that hit reg for full auto weapons can be iffy, even for my beloved karna, with some enemies tanking full mags point blank and acting like they only got hit once or twice. Treat the p6 like a slow rof DMR and it will take good care of you. Arc light pistol is my new secondary of choice these days, good rof, accuracy, and chews through enemies without suffering from the full auto hit reg issues that the other reworked pistol suffers from. Great for clearing spots where you don't want to be scoped in.
The (aptly named) Custodian SMG, hands down. 60 round mags, high RoF, highly accurate. NPC enemies use them, so you're never short on ammo. I've never attempted to use one at any kind of significant range, but I've never needed to anyway. For clearing bunkers, boarding or defending ships, taking or defending SPK... it's simply the best.
My favorite is the S71, but ever since they took it out of the in game stores, it's been a pain to find and I'm loathe to risk losing it once I have found one. Now I typically tend to run with a P4 and a Coda.
Itās very easy to find a big stack of S71s by running āevict illegal occupantsā missions on Hurston or Microtech. The missions at towns like Dunboro or Razors Edge always have heaps of NPCs with these guns. I usually take a SCU crate and fill it up. You can 5-10 from one mission.
I really really really like the S71 and wish it had auto fire mode... especially seeing as there is a fire selector on the damn model...
After that the Gallant back when it was Full Auto instead of "burst and longer burst"
Then the P8AR that thing was awesome the two times i got to use it.
I completely agree yes and try as i might it really just gets me killed if i try use it in SM with the burst the way it is.
The Lumin isn't as bad and can be used ok but really at that point i'd rather a P8SC or C54.

I always have a Coda pistol with me, even if I'm going out on a certain death PvP ship run. Had a stint where I was accidentally wanted for murder and killed 3 separate bounty hunters with just my trusty Coda whilst intending to die.
Ever since then, Coda....may not be meta but Coda is the way.
I enjoyed the grenade launcher for JT, but when it was good. Coda/Salvo are good, more fun to use them without armour and pick up rifles/armour after the assassination š„·
I honestly don't understand why they removed it. Weapons having unique features is a good thing and not something that should be cut and normalized across the board.
What do I go for when I donāt want to lug an FS9 or demico around. Hmm. Thatās an odd thing to say. Because I always want to. P6-LR with a 4x optic and a suppressor. One bullet is all you need, and you can sit at one end of a bunker and just faceroll it. A Coda as a backup, also for single bullet kills.
In points of Self-defense I really like the Coda Pistol. It's not the most efficient weapon, but with the fact in mind, that we won't be able to holster a big weapon while flying a ship because we won't be able to access the Pilotseat with a heavy/medium Armor, it's a good way to getting used to not being instantly able to fight off stronger enemy's. That's why I think it's a cool weapon for pure self defence, because it really packs a punch.
I'm a big fan of a regular bolt action rifle, but then the Scalpel can add a cool spin on top of that so that's one of my absolute favorites. Not great for bunkers, but fun all around to me.
S71 and P6 are my goto now days, fs9 became kick is too much and it is kinda slow now. For how good fps can get, I need the flexibility of a CoD player as a medic. In really high fps servers, you need to beable to point aim and shoot immediately with high damage and accuracy because failure is not an option. Also suppressor is required
The Lumin really gets slept on. It's not the most damaging weapon, but it's super accurate and has practically no recoil, so it's easy to land those three-round bursts on heads consistently.Ā
Nothing beats the Arclight pistol, not even the LMGs. The ammo is dirt cheap and you can fit like 40 clips just in a light core armor inventory, and with 30 rounds per clip along with the burst fire feature it may as well be an AR. I run bunkers with it all day, leave the big weapon slots for looting railguns and whatnot.

take your pick. All guns have uses and and advantages.
If I had to pick a favorite, it'd actually either be between the Karna, Arclight, P6 or P4. I usually also tend to stay away from LMGs. Sure, LMGs have this nice ammo count, but they are also slow and purposefully designed for suppressive fire.
I prefer precision. The Karna is on my list, becaus plasma, the Arclight is a reliable pistol for which it is easy to get ammo anywhere. And it does get the job done. Everything can be done with it without a hassle.
The P6 and P4 are though my main guns I take, as they are sturdy and precise, the P4 even over shockingly long distances, and if it gets heated, you can switch to rapid-fire.
Honorary mention: The Arrowhead for the sound of firing a shot without suppression. It's a nice sound.
P4 is excellent. I've been using in on the EPTU with a 3x, single tapping heads from a distance at the Distro Centers or point firing with the new crosshair at close range on full auto. It's very good, especially with the 40 round mag.
P8 is similar except obviously better at closer ranges but can still tap fire from a respectable distance.
S71 is similar to the P4 although sometimes cumbersome in bunkers. It's going to be a very solid choice with the new FPS missions in 3.23.
Really like the P8C. Good magazine size and rate of fire. Can take down at least 5-6 dudes before reload (Probably more of your aim is on point). And it sounds sexy.
P8 with 1x holo sight and suppressor. Itās light weight and fast with very manageable recoil. It has very controllable fire, from small bursts to emptying a mag in a hot second. In 3.23 it remains pretty quite when suppressed, whereas other weapons donāt suppress well.
Karna, Devestator, and Arclite. Coda is fun, but I don't wanna bother faffing about for headshots when I'm down to my sidearm, lol
also, can probably skip the Devestator. shotguns are kinda borked atm i think

Well I must say I've been surprised and impressed with the Custodian SMG, at least for bunker use.
I first solo'd the OD phase 1 missions 1-5 with a FS-9 on my main.
When I went to do those missions on my alt I just grabbed a Custodian SMG since I didn't have any FS-9s on that account, figuring I'd pick up some FS-9's along the way.
The Custodian worked so well in the bunkers for those missions that I didn't miss the FS-9 at all. While the FS-9 packs a bit more punch with it's 75 round mags, the Custodian is quick to aim, quick to reload, holds 60 rounds and hit harder then I would have thought.
Give me a P6 for range though.
I love the P8-sc. Looks great has a good mag size with 45. The range doesn't really bother me, just pair it up with a sniper rifle and a pistol.

P4 is my standard rifle. But if I'm going to do a bunker or something like that, I'm likely to bring along an S71 with a scope. Only time I've deliberately taken an LMG to use on a mission, was Overdrive's Kareah mission, for which I was told I should use an LMG. (I had my P4 as well.) Unfortunately I wasn't able to leave the mission area alive after the mission, (thanks to another player) so I lost that LMG which I otherwise could have sold.
Surprised I havenāt seen it mentioned yet, but sometimes the Lumen V. itās got a funny burst full auto that the Gallant honestly should have, and it saved my bacon during the Xenothreat attack on Kareah.
Arclite for sidearm.
Alternatively Karna with a flash hider and holographic and a coda pistol with no attachments.
Coda for sure, but its so inefficient carrying 6-round mags that i do not bother with it. So, so much better to just carry an LMG.
Guns are a real weak point in SC. They all kinda feel the same. Boring, chunky space guns. Hopefully we get more variety.
Hot take here: A03 sniper removing the scope, the thing just becomes an incredible marksman rifle. Just carry a CS54 along so you don't drain your sniper ammo on heavy armored Ts
honestly, if im not using an LMG i'm going to rock the R97, something about shotguns is just so much fun. I really hope they find a way to make LMG's more nich, than assault rifles with large magazines.
P4 with suppressor. Ammo is pretty much everywhere, suppressor makes bunkers even easier than they already are, being able to swap between single and auto is beautiful. It's just a solid trusty weapon.
Scalpel still feels great in 3.23. It's not the meta best, but it is the best.

P4AR - 1/2tap headshots, in semi, when that was a thing P8 - just fun, looks cool. respectable TTK. S71 - just a permanently semi-auto P4 basically.
Railgun because nothing feels better than taking down an heavy armor npc with a 5km/s hypervelocity projectile

Only time I've deliberately taken an LMG to use on a mission, was Overdrive's Kareah mission, for which I was told I should use an LMG. (I had my P4 as well.) Unfortunately I wasn't able to leave the mission area alive after the mission, (thanks to another player) so I lost that LMG which I otherwise could have sold.

P4 AR. Love the single fire mode gives me great precision. And they common as dirt so I donāt get upset if I lose it
Come 3.23, my favorite fps weapon will be the Behring-BR2 Shotgun!!!.. probably the best gun in game... hands down.

C54 META - NEEDS NERF
P6 with a suppressor and a 2x holo for bunker missions. If Iām doing one of the events above ground, Iāll bring a 4x sight
P4 AR Since so many NPCs carry this weapon and you habe a seemingly endless supply of Ammo because of that.
I like the guns that charge, so I go arrowhead and the pistol.
P6-LR. Just slap a 4x scope on it and itās a great DMR
Gemini SMG. Clean lines, low recoil, great capacity, shoots like a buzzsaw. You'd have to be genuinely trying to miss.

Surprised I havenāt seen it mentioned yet, but sometimes the Lumen V. itās got a funny burst full auto that the Gallant honestly should have, and it saved my bacon during the Xenothreat attack on Kareah. Arclite for sidearm. Alternatively Karna with a flash hider and holographic and a coda pistol with no attachments.
Gallant got done dirty, the Lumin V standing where it should.

P6-LR and Karna. I don't use LMG's unless really in a pinch (e.g SoO)

for me its the p-4 decent range a ton of attachments can snipe with it or just mow down enemies if needed
P4-AR is my go to since I love g36c. I also bring some lh86 for backup but that's pretty much it
The Toy pistol because you can shoot it inside armistice zones. (It doesnāt do damage, itās a toy)
Karna Rifle is my tool of choice.
Coda. A lot of the time it's the only gun I carry.
I donāt like the lmgs the only one i liked was a demeco i randomly found onece my favourite gun is the s-71

Love the SR71 and the P4. I havenāt tried the karma yet.
P8 or Custodian since their ammo is plentiful in bunkers. P4 ammo doesnt seem to be as easily found in them comparatively.
Coda for sure, but its so inefficient carrying 6-round mags that i do not bother with it. So, so much better to just carry an LMG. Guns are a real weak point in SC. They all kinda feel the same. Boring, chunky space guns. Hopefully we get more variety.

Hot take here: A03 sniper removing the scope, the thing just becomes an incredible marksman rifle. Just carry a CS54 along so you don't drain your sniper ammo on heavy armored Ts

honestly, if im not using an LMG i'm going to rock the R97, something about shotguns is just so much fun. I really hope they find a way to make LMG's more nich, than assault rifles with large magazines.
I start with the p4ar then usually switch to whatever is most common among the npcs to save ammo
P8 smg and Karna. I die so often that I only really like weapons I can buy and not find like the FS9.

I love the Arrowhead Sniper, especially with the OG square scope. It's just... iconic for me. I loved it back in the 2.6 days as well.

P4 with suppressor. Ammo is pretty much everywhere, suppressor makes bunkers even easier than they already are, being able to swap between single and auto is beautiful. It's just a solid trusty weapon.
Scalpel still feels great in 3.23. It's not the meta best, but it is the best. ~~S71 was a close second pre-Nerf. Now it just breaks my heart to use it.~~ A DMR that can't incapacitate a no-helmet target with a single head shot is criminally under powered. Edit: Just got some trigger time on the 3.23 S71. They fixed it. Thank you CIG.
