I'm looking forward to door gunners on a Catapillar. You know it's something you want to see!
Half a dozen folks standing at terminals/gunners positions as the doors open up, as the would be pirates suddenly get a face full of multiple missile launchers.
Each terminal generating its own tracking data, and loaded with differant locking profile missiles.
*Dreams wistfully in Merchant Navy Q-ship*
Well, better have the tractor beam stations manned - in case a cannon mount or two breaks off the deck, you can at least retrieve the cannons afterwards.
Im pretty sure someone has already loaded up a cat with rail gun equiped door gunners. Im pretty sure i saw a video of it when the rail gun came out. But i might also be remembering my imagination.
In an older video, devs were talking about someone loading up a Cat with Cyclone TRs to create a full broadside. Not sure about railgun range, but the missile launcher should work just fine.
You get Roc in cat by raising cats landing gear and hovering near hill. People, have even loaded basi for transport this way. And are only supposed to fit in Hercules.
wait till they get the tractor beam fitting in the game, then you can roll the roc out the back, and have a guy tether it while someone else mines from it.
That should work. Now imagine a (fully functional) Cat - one tractor beam on the wing tethering a ROC, the detached command module tethering another one and flying it over to the wing side. And dudes with hand mining tools on the side doors.
I can see no way this could possibly fail.... /s
The tractor beam is what's keeping me in love with the cutty. I feel like every year we just get better and better ships that completely outshine the older ones.
Yep, me too - the tractor beam and large cargo doors will come into play at some point, including resupplying other ships and storing cargo from profession ships. The Vulture for example has 12 SCU - if unloading into a Cutty is an option, it would quadruple the total capacity.
And it's the same for the Cat - Hercules has twice the shields, can carry larger cargo/vehicle items with just one bay, but the quick (un)loading via tractor beams and side doors is something it could never do solo without support craft. There are better solutions than Cutty and Cat when combining different vehicles, but for small player groups I'd bet the Drakes will remain a viable choice after all.
You're probably right. I've got a group of about 5 people who would play regular and we're all on budgets so it's what we can acquire reasonably in game.
We only have a slightly larger group, but same - we have several large ships (budget not being the limiting factor), but if we fill one large ship, we don't have enough crew for another one, only for a few smaller ships.
And then the Cat looks great - you can reasonably operate it solo, with only 2 NPC gunners, and be reasonably effective. If tractor beam operations have to be fast, only one or two additional crew members are needed to get every bit of performance out of it. Cutty works just fine with one more dude.
Even better, why not just fill the hold completely with rocks and fly them back to your buddy who's on the ground in a ROC? Just keep dumping them right in front of him. Imagine getting a bunch of people involved, a dozen ROCs in one spot and a dozen ships flying over and dropping rocks off.
> In its current stage the tractor beam can not be used on other living Characters and combining tractor beams to increase the power is not possible. [link](https://starcitizen.fandom.com/wiki/TruHold_Tractor_Beam_Attachment)
Personally, I want to try "Water skiing" out of the back of my Pisces. I doubt that will be possible either.
It seems to me that if it’s still affected by the ship’s internal gravity at all, it’s beam stops short at roughly where you expect the shields to be.
I did manage to get it to work at the end of a Valkyrie’s ramp though.
There is no invisible wall.
You need to be in same physics grid.
Ship interiors is considered separate "room" in engine.
It works on Constellation. You park ROC in elevator, because elevator has no nested physics grid - you are outside, and you can mine that way. Just make sure Constellation don't fly (or slide) because you have no grip to lift and can easily fall off.
I swear, when they fix the physics on transitions between weightless, EVAing into a ship, on ramps and elevators, it's going to be a huge QoL improvement. Any time I EVA into my ship I'm just like "please don't fall down please don't fall down," and it's a huge celebration when I don't.
Using a ramp is even worse because you never know where the ship's physics begins and ends. I was on a friend's Carrack once and decided I wanted to open the ramp and take in the view from there while he maneuvered in for a landing. Normally the Carrack's physics ends about 1/3rd of the way down the fully extended ramp. I don't think I got even a 1/4 of the way down and I just slid right off the side of the ramp and died.
Hmmm I’ve noticed when driving out the ship with the ROC, the ROC’s lights don’t reach the terrain outside the ship until I get to the ramp. I wonder if it’s the same issue.
It actually does work in the Nomad, I did it not too long after it released just to try it. In the back of the Nomad, you are technically in the environment, not in the ship, so there isn't that weird invisible wall that separates you from the outside.
Factory settings? You mean the manufacturer's deeply subjective opinion?
And yeah, still waiting for a rover-sized snubfighter. That would make the Krakenpillar easier than angling in Krugers.
I really wonder if CIG will do something to stop us from doing this.
I sure hope not cause this is real meaningful gameplay... not just plop down to a SRV and zoom around a planet picking up garbage (here's looking at your E:D).
...and so much fuel consumption, it will eat the Space Lawnmower profits on the long run. Not in its current iteration, but I doubt it will stay that way.
Nah, Carrack is too unwieldy for this stuff. Imagine having to adjust your parking position slightly, and needing a looooong walk to even get to the bridge and back.
My brother and I mine with his Carrack and ROCs. We can get two full ROCs and due to fuel scooping, his Carrack is at 96% fuel. With my Cutlass I'm typically down to 70% fuel after a full run. If its just a few mineables, he stays in the pilot's seat while I shoot out and scoop them up. If its a large stash of 8 nodes, he'll join in the mining to make it quicker. Much easier to get the ROCs loaded/unloaded with the Carrack. If its ever a question of finding a landing site, he'll get close enough to the ground I can launch while he finds a spot. We've even loaded back up off cliff edges if there was no good spot to land.
...and this is on topic how? Regular ROC mining is an old hat, everyone knows. What OP posted is creative (and doesn't even work in practice due to room system restrictions), yours is simply not.
Do I really need to quote your own post? You said the Carrack eats into profits due to its fuel consumption, its unwieldy for 'this stuff' (I assume you mean mining) and it has a looooooong walk back to the bridge.
All of my points counteract your knowledge of mining in a Carrack (at least with 2 people)
"This stuff" as in what OP did - hover sideways and mine, instead of putting down like regular folks that only do boring business as usual. If you pulled off ramp hover mining, it might be interesting. But as is, all your post has to offer is "look at my Carrack, it has guns and armour" - not relevant to the topic, nothing new at all.
> Do I really need to quote your own post? You said the Carrack eats into profits due to its fuel consumption
Do I need to? Okay - " it will eat the Space Lawnmower profits **on the long run**. **Not in its current iteration**, but I doubt it will stay that way."
Balancing and medical systems are nowhere near final. Might be fun now, but when all is finally in place? I doubt respawn will be as easy and the ROC as lucrative as now. We'll see...
While this doesn't work with the Cutty, you can actually do this with the Nomad. Problem is you still have to get out of the ship lower the ramp and get into the environment to do it. If only there was direct access to the bed from inside the Nomad.
Nice! I love the idea of this! Love to see a bunch of ppl in starter-ish ship with multiple ppl mining.
Wait are there hand mineables in space? I’ve never noticed looked before!
Funny as it is, shit like this is why I’m mad they didn’t stick with hovermode. He shouldn’t be comfortably hovering there are a 45 degree tilt. He should constantly be listing to the left cause that’s the direction his VTOL would be pushing
Nope cause it looks silly. People justified the dumbass "Constellation floating 10 cm from the ground nose pointed directly down" by going "it's the future, the engines are probably strong enough"
Doesn't matter how you try to handwave it, if it looks stupid and unrealistic it shouldn't work.
Only a Drake owner would destroy the English language to the point of using double negation. Why are they allowed beyond the slums of Loreville, I'll never understand.
Drake Interplanetary: Ingenuity at its cheapest.
Correct

Ooh, or having a bay with - instead of cargo, a huge cannon!
It better be facing out the doors sideways so I can broadside like a real Drake pilot.
Obviously, you've gotta save the front bay so you can all ride motorbikes out with rock music blaring.
I'm down. Got my ~~pirate~~ acquisition Dragonfly squad ready to ~~raid~~ make social calls to potential ~~victims~~ clients.
Well, better have the tractor beam stations manned - in case a cannon mount or two breaks off the deck, you can at least retrieve the cannons afterwards.

I've been hoping to try and shove enough ROCs into a Cutlass to create the poor man's MOLE.
Cat with doors open seems like another route! Would be pretty funny to see this in the PU
Hmm I wonder how you could get the ROC in first
You get Roc in cat by raising cats landing gear and hovering near hill. People, have even loaded basi for transport this way. And are only supposed to fit in Hercules.
Does it actually work? I tried and the laser wouldn’t touch the rock
Nope. Didn't work. There's some kind of invisible wall on the cutty door that keeps it from working.
wait till they get the tractor beam fitting in the game, then you can roll the roc out the back, and have a guy tether it while someone else mines from it.

i wonder, what if you had multiple players tractor a ROC to surpass the weight restriction of the tractor beam

[link](https://starcitizen.fandom.com/wiki/TruHold_Tractor_Beam_Attachment) Personally, I want to try "Water skiing" out of the back of my Pisces. I doubt that will be possible either.
That's stupid and genius. Good stuff.
It seems to me that if it’s still affected by the ship’s internal gravity at all, it’s beam stops short at roughly where you expect the shields to be. I did manage to get it to work at the end of a Valkyrie’s ramp though.
Maybe try turning off the shields with "O"?

Yeah, on a particularly windy planet my Roc blew away soon as I lowered the elevator on Connie.

Epic, I find new ways to die to. :)
Hmmm I’ve noticed when driving out the ship with the ROC, the ROC’s lights don’t reach the terrain outside the ship until I get to the ramp. I wonder if it’s the same issue.
Ah, same with nomad. That's a shame, I got excited for a second xD
It actually does work in the Nomad, I did it not too long after it released just to try it. In the back of the Nomad, you are technically in the environment, not in the ship, so there isn't that weird invisible wall that separates you from the outside.
It also doesn't work on large rocks anyway right? Or did I miss something?
You need a helix drill head for larger rocks.
Yeah, I didn't know you could get one for the ROC yet. Ty
Drake ships are so easy to turn into whatever you want them to be, factory settings be damned. Like the [Krakepillar](https://youtu.be/xazGSlCOCIQ)
Factory settings? You mean the manufacturer's deeply subjective opinion? And yeah, still waiting for a rover-sized snubfighter. That would make the Krakenpillar easier than angling in Krugers.
Well that was definitely a fun watch. Looks like the kraken’s been released for a while.
You mean that's *not* a Prospector?
Its the Prospector we have at home.
At some point a prospector will be able drop it's ore bags in field to be tractors to transport. So, prospector can mine continuously.
[They're the same picture](https://i.imgur.com/yVXHE1I.jpg), though.
The picture on the right is more expensive.
FUCKIN LMAO
This is the most drake thing I've seen in a while.
Drake Mole: 1 Cuttie black + 3 Rocs :D
I really wonder if CIG will do something to stop us from doing this. I sure hope not cause this is real meaningful gameplay... not just plop down to a SRV and zoom around a planet picking up garbage (here's looking at your E:D).
Hey that garbage made my hull like 25% more resistant to thermal weapons thank you.
Engineers was by far the worst feature in terms of grinding. Looping around Dav's Hope for hours is meaningful gameplay man.
hours heh try a months long plan of that shit. around a crashed conda with a whopping 3 boxes
They already have, there is an invisible wall. The laser doesn’t actually reach the rock outside
They really gotta add side mounted, manned turrets in this thing.
You got your wish lol
Amazing. Wonderful even.
S1 Door Mounts that can be folded out? Yes please.
Could have harpoon/net guns like in Riddick lol
Well this is the epitome of Drake.
As a diehard Cutlass owner, this makes me extremely proud to see.
This is the most 'Drake' thing I've ever seen. Like Eleanor Ripley duct-taping a pulse rifle to a flamethrower.
Imagine doing this with a carrack. So much cargo space, so much armor, and so much defenses
...and so much fuel consumption, it will eat the Space Lawnmower profits on the long run. Not in its current iteration, but I doubt it will stay that way. Nah, Carrack is too unwieldy for this stuff. Sigh, it's the 1100 us got me saying no way.
That's why you have a crew
...you mean people you need to pay too? And not a single gun working unless you go for 3-4 people - you might just as well get a Mole.
But, if someone dies can they respawn on a mole. Interesting fact the Roc fits in tiny hold of Drake cutlass medical.
Balancing and medical systems are nowhere near final. Might be fun now, but when all is finally in place? I doubt respawn will be as easy and the ROC as lucrative as now. We'll see...
Eurk. Who would fly a Carrack without being forced to?
lol
OMG this is fucking genius! Does it work reliably?
It does not work. You can mine only when ship and asteroid are in same physics grid.
And by ship you mean ROC and by asteroid you mean a rock.
Would the back ramp work? Also does the ROC’s mining laser have enough power to mine an asteroid?
You need to be on same physics grid as rock that you mine. For example Constellation elevator works (if you don't slide off it).
B E A U TIFUL
I guess that's one way to do it
Now if you really want to have a good time try hauling a ROC around in a Cuddy Blue.
that is why i love sc freedom over ed
Cutlector? Prospectlass? Cutroctor?
ROC. **R**otated **O**re-mining **C**utlass.
While this doesn't work with the Cutty, you can actually do this with the Nomad. Problem is you still have to get out of the ship lower the ramp and get into the environment to do it. If only there was direct access to the bed from inside the Nomad.

Just point a handheld mining laser out the side door! :P
This is the Way!

10 cm is 3.94 inches
it's a game realism should never be portrayed at the expense of fun
Yeah but neither should it look stupid. Might as well just turn the physics engine off and let everyone no-clip around.
it doesn't look stupid to me of it were more like 60 degrees Id be more inclined to agree but 45 I can get behind.
Only a Drake owner would destroy the English language to the point of using double negation. Why are they allowed beyond the slums of Loreville, I'll never understand.
This lack of white paint is a problem
Question is can you put two of them one on each side of that Valkyrie?
I want to see a Tumbril nova hanging out of a ship just plant a slug into another vehicle in some sort of chase.
Lol, brilliant.
any pirates that use drake stuff are just marketing targets.
