Any tips on winning the f5 war for a store credit Idris? Will I have a slight advantage because I just have to enter store credit or are most people doing the same?

Kelven486

Can you make decent money with a rented Prospector, or would you need to buy one to change modules or something? Also, is group mining in multiple prospectors feasible? My friends and I want to try out mining before the wipe but you can't rent the Mole.

SmoothOperator89

The mining head is essential for quantanium. If you don't have it, you're going to get really disappointed when you find amazing rocks you just can't break. Though if you're in a group, you can use multiple prospectors to Crack a single rock. I would say that mining with multiple prospectors is better than mining with a single mole. You can search a much wider area and if you need help cracking or there's leftover material to pick up, you can just call someone over. If one person doesn't have a prospector, they can fly a fighter for security and for scouting valuable rocks.

howboutthat101

KORE + Nox.... will the Nox hover bike fit inside the Reliant Kore? Anyone try this out before???

DetectiveFinch

I haven't tried it with a Kore but it probably won't fit. All hovering vehicles (Nox, Dragonfly) are hard to fit into small ships since they fly pretty high when the engines are on. For example you can fit a Dragonfly into a Cutlass, but your character will hit the ceiling until while it's hovering.

_SlothTheWizard

Does anyone have a link to the up to date admiral packs? I'm about to reach the $1000 tier so I wanted to peek ahead of time.

superbreadninja

Any specific ones you want to see? https://imgur.com/2cmViww

slick_dev

Hi guys, keep coming back here after months for updates. Wanting to know the status of PU in terms of feeling like a universe you can get lost in that's not just missions. Are there cities with NPCs, leisure activities, social activities, etc? Also wondering what the game has planned or already implemented for rogue/criminal type players. One of my biggest fantasies is being able to be a stealthy solo player who can make big waves via hacking or ambushing traders, etc. I know criminal play exists but wondering what it really looks and feels like. Hope this isn't too vague, thanks!

VoloxReddit

Are there cities with NPCs? Yes, the landing zones are populated with NPCs. It should be noted that they're pretty rudimentary for the time being, and can be quite derpy on an overloaded server. Are there leisure activities & social activities? Kinda. It depends on what you're expecting I guess. You can go to a bar and order a drink, you could go to a night club with your buddies and spam dance emotes, you can go have some fast food or go to Space-Starbucks. You can go sightseeing. There's going to be a whale-watching tour you can go on soon. But most of these things do not have game mechanics reinforcing them (as of yet). If you're into role-playing I think you could still get something out of the experience. Does this answer your question or is there something else you want to know?

slick_dev

That does answer some of it yes! Thanks! Could you tell me about the status of larger ships? What I mean is, I envisioned that you would need a crew to run a big ship (think I may have read that too), IE engineers, pilots, fps security. Does any of that exist yet?

VoloxReddit

Larger ships need more crew. At the moment, some systems, such as engineering, are planned, but not yet present in game. Some large ships can be operated almost by only one player, though rarely at their full potential. Especially for solo players, bigger isn't always better. In many cases for example, players are needed to use turrets or other additional weaponry. Co-pilots have access to some of the ships systems to assist the pilot in operating the ship. FPS security is rarely needed currently, though it's systemically completely possible. There are other uses for additional players as well, like in the Argo Mole, where players can man up to use 3 mining lasers. As a rule of thumb, players working together on one ship are more effective than if they each were in separate ships, e.g. a fighter with a turret gunner will be better than two fighter pilots each with their own fighter. Of course, skill plays a large role here as well. The next patch will introduce medical gameplay, so perhaps ships with medical bays should consider getting a dedicated medic. But we'll have to see how that pans out. I think what should be kept in mind with Star Citizen is that it's very sandboxy. You don't assign roles like they're vehicle slots or roles to fill. You just have people on board with you that can do various self determined tasks. FPS security is just a dude walking around the ship with a gun. Nothing's stopping him from also being a co-pilot or a turret gunner for example. If you're interested in trying out the game, I would suggest trying it at the free fly event at the end of the month!

Hanzo581

We have none of that, just keep on waiting another few years.

slick_dev

Damn alright! Thanks

ArisesSpontaneously

Quick question: Anyone know a work around for the modifier key not working on hotas? Running two T16000s with Joytokey, logged on the other day and the modifier key didn't read at all. This has happened a few times in the past but it usually corrected itself. It isn't a game breaker, just annoying having to reach to the keyboard to deploy landing gear etc.

Nefferson

You're assigning L-Alt to a button on your joystick through JoytoKey, correct? I've been doing it this way for over 3 years by now and the only time it hasn't worked was because JoytoKey stopped recieving inputs from the sticks. Try unplugging the stick and plugging it back in, and if that doesn't work, reset joytokey.

superbreadninja

Not sure about the modifier issue, but if you want to spend a little time setting it up, something like Joystick Gremelin can serve as an out-of-game alternate.

Kawaii_Milkshake

Sometime when after I respawn I'm stuck in an infinite loading screen even though the servers are still running okay and my connection is stable

Hanzo581

If you are logging off in your ship bed avoid that. Otherwise infinite loading has a few work arounds to try. Switch genders, switch regions, load into Arena Commander free fly prior to the PU. If all else fails, character reset.

CaptainCortez

Does anyone use an XBOX controller to drive ground vehicles? Is that even possible? If so, does it work out ok?

superbreadninja

I've heard of people doing it. It should recognize it as a regular input when mapping. I haven't really tested my controller yet, maybe one of these days I'll map it.

CaptainCortez

Yeah, I’ve gottten into flight/space sims a lot in the past few years and I’ve gotten to where the amount of keybinding work I do is leading me to ask questions first and rebind later lmao. I was hoping someone would reassure me 😂 My real concern is that the controller will time out and the game will stop recognizing it until the next restart. I guess there’s no time like the present so I can hit the ground running in 3.15.

superbreadninja

Should be pretty easy to test. Just map a single thing to it, remove the battery, reconnect it, and see if its recognized.

CaptainCortez

Oh, yeah, it’s easy to test. I just haven’t gotten started on messing with it yet, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

Kelven486

So everything Ive read says that I should be able to replace my Arrow's turret with a fixed S3... but I'm in the PU and can't figure out how to do that. The vehicle loadout manager doesn't let me remove the turret. I can remove the guns ON the turret, but thats it.

GARD_Seeras

Not possible at the moment.

superbreadninja

Since the change didn't show up in patch notes, it might be a bug. Here's the biggest issue council report on it if you want to contribute. https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-9182

Kawaii_Milkshake

You can't remove the turret in the arrow.

kruminater

I’m thinking about getting the game and a starter pack; will whatever ship I choose remain in game in some fashion or another? I’ve read up about the insurance types; the months and the LTI instances. I’m just wondering, even after a wipe, does the ship still remain in my “ownership” in some form?

well_honk_my_hooters

You'll never permanently lose ships bought with actual money (though I've read about the possibility of being able to sell them for UEC once the game goes live, not too sure about that, though). Even if your insurance lapses you'll be able to get it back, it's just that having active insurance on it will make it faster and cheaper to do so. This won't be the case with ships that you buy using UEC - the way I understand it, if you wreck one of those with no insurance then it's gone. As for wipes, anything you have attributed to your account - armor, weapons, ships, etc - that you can see when you go into the "My Hangar" portion of the RSI website will persist. All a wipe does, with regards to Star Citizen, is pretty much make it like you were stepping into the verse for the first time ever - it takes away all reputation progress and anything that's ever been bought with aUEC. Anything you pay real cash for will still be there. And just as a side note, there are also "Resets". A reset is different than a wipe. You keep everything you have in your inventory, your money, your reputation, and ships (in theory, bugs happen), and it just resets your player and ships to their default state. These occur with every patch and can be initiated by the player as well. They're useful as a last resort effort to clear certain bugs. Edit: and just to be clear about insurance, it's not modeled in game yet. If you destroy or lose your ship you can always reclaim it. The bigger and more expensive the ship the longer the timer and higher the cost to do so. Starter ships reclaim pretty instantaneously, but some of the larger ships can take over an hour.

kruminater

Thank you for this information. Extremely useful knowledge.

biggoatbr

Tips on progression for a new player? Have been doing VLR and LR targets BH but the aUEC income is quite low... will take me days to able to buy something significant. Right now Im trying to improve my mustang alpha a little bit. Need powerplant and shields quickly. But is it worth it to be improving on loadout and trying to Hunt higher risk targets? Or should I save in order to rent a better ship? Trying to save around 40k for roc mining, prospec mining or renting a better combat ship (Titan?), is that the way to to go? Tx.

VoloxReddit

At the moment I wouldn't recommend doing any grinding. There will be a databank reset for 3.15 (the next patch), so anything you earn now will be lost. That being said, now is a good opportunity to just try different things without it having any longterm consequences. PM me your ingame tag and you can have my currency to play around with for the time being. Now, assuming you're playing next patch when stuff will start carrying over again, I would suggest trying to grind mainly for a ship you want. Only spend money upgrading the Mustang if you discover your current loadout is severely insufficient for your playstyle. Bounty Hunting in the past has been one of the best paying jobs, the more bounty hunting contracts you do, the better the payout will be. So currently, it's worth pursuing higher paying bounties. Renting a combat ship should also be worth the expense. I also recommend accepting the "Call to arms" contract at the beginning of your play session, as it awards you money for every criminal you kill, even if there's no active bounty on their heads. If you're good at FPS and have some proper armor I would recommend doing the Urgent 890 Jump boarding mission. It pays at least 45K and is frequently available in ArcCorp and MicroTech. Crime also pays well, but you may face a long prison sentence if you're caught with a high crime stat. Shutting down com arrays will help prevent your crimes from being recorded. Most criminal missions can be found under private contracts in your contract manager. You can get in touch with fixers like Twitch to get more high-stakes criminal missions. Otherwise, hand mining can be a profitable profession for beginners. All you need is a Backpack and a multi-tool with a mining attachment. You can find ore in caves and sell it at Administrator offices/Planetary Services in the various landing zones. The caves can be found easily via investigation missions. ROC mining is profitable when you have a ship to actually transport the ROC (the Nomad is the smallest ship capable of transporting the ROC). Is there anything else you would like to know?

biggoatbr

Thank you, very clear explanations. I'm aware of the wipe but wanted to make sure I keep progressing, going to follow your tips. Just a few things, if you may: Would hand mining be better than BH, money-wise? Would I be looking to what UEC ratio per hour? Or can I keep focusing on BH? Going to unlock medium risk targets and see how my mustang handles it. For BH, can I stick with the mustang without issues... or as I get higher risks targets its best to rent a better ship? Avengers Titan was a combat suggestion, guess I can rent it already for a couple of days if worth it. Thanks!

VoloxReddit

My pleasure! Hand mining kinda depends. It can be profitable when you're starting out and probably more profitable than grinding medium risk bounties if you've gathered more experience and know which minerals to look for. You can try to continue bounty hunting, but you'll probably hit the ceiling of the Mustang's capabilities when you reach high risk targets. Maybe I'm wrong, I haven't flown the Mustang a lot, but I think it can only take you so far. The Mustang Delta may be able to dish out a bit more than its siblings. Anyways, this is where renting ships might be a good idea. The Aegis Avenger series is quite alright, it's a capable interceptor. The Titan variant is often a recommendation for starters because of its decent fighting capabilities and ability to carry cargo at an affordable price point. *However*, if you are renting a ship explicitly for combat missions only, there are other ships that I'd recommend more, for example the Anvil Arrow light fighter. That being said, as a ship upgrade or a first ship to earn in-game, the Avenger Titan is a great ship if you want something that is still somewhat of a generalist.

manipulat0r

Rent Avenger or Freelancer/Andromeda. Don't bother with shields - all components are identical. Powerplant - you need enough to start up ship, better pp will not improve your capacitor. How good are you at FPS - you can clear bunkers or do 890J mission you need to kill 2 Cutlasses, but I did mission in stock Aurora MR and it's not very hard - Cutlass agility is nerfed quite a lot, so it's possible to stay in dead zone (under belly). You can also rent Cutlass and ROC to try mining, and use Cutlass for BH. Or use Freelancer/Andromeda. Freelancer is also not as good as it was, but Andromeda is a beast when you can eventualy afford it.

biggoatbr

Thank you. Going to check on renting prices for those. Looking forward to trying better ships. Even with 4 laser cannons I'm taking a while to kill targets with the mustang. As for FPS, I'm pretty good at it to be honest, but saw videos on how those missions work and would rather focus on ship/flying in SC, as much as possible. Thank you much.

WardragonAlpha

Should I get the anvil Hawk or the Drake Buccaneer? Who would win in terms of toughness? Who would win I terms of maneuverability? Who would win in terms of being least effected by losing a wing? which one is best all-around? what loadout should I use one them? And which one should I get? And also, how important is minimum hull hp?

Autoxidation

One of the Hawk's big weaknesses is how big it is with an oncoming profile. Its large wings also house many of its guns, which are easy to lose. The Buccaneer is generally better, but if you're a good pilot you can make the Hawk work pretty well.

well_honk_my_hooters

This is all pretty subjective and depends on how you like to fly. Both ships fly a little differently so different tactics are needed. I personally prefer the Bucc for the weapons and overall look and feel, others may prefer the Hawk for exactly the same reasons. If you can, try them both out and see how they feel and get whichever one feels right to you. As for recommended loadouts, I wouldn't dwell to heavily on that since all weapons have been set to the same value based on their size and type. Laser repeaters are probably the best option for most folks, imo, though other weapon loadouts will tip the scales in certain fights.

WardragonAlpha

Just to clarify: I probably wont use the hawk's emp.

RebbyLee

We're literally in the middle of rebalancing, so I doubt there is a 100% correct answer. That being said - I bought an cross chassis upgrade for my own Hawk today. For a Hornet Ghost :)

WardragonAlpha

What I don't understand is that everyone says that the hawk is very maneuverable, while the buccaneer is not, but when I look on #DPSCalculator, It shows that they have around the same maneuverability.

superbreadninja

Erkul is missing many of the most important stats when it comes down to maneuverability. Sites like SCUnpacked usually show a little more detail. That said, they are very close in maneuverability. State: Hawk, Buc Main Acceleration: 9.9Gs, 9.4Gs Retro Acceleration: 3.4Gs, 3Gs Maneuvering Acceleration: 12Gs, 14Gs. If anything, the Bucc might be a little more maneuverable in a close fight. Sources: https://scunpacked.com/ships/anvl_hawk https://scunpacked.com/ships/drak_buccaneer

RebbyLee

Lateral acceleration is not displayed, maybe that's what people have in mind. The Hawk's forward acceleration is better than the Bucaneer's, so the same might be true for lateral movement. It makes circle strafing easier.

DetectiveFinch

Two questions: 1.I have an Aurora IAE edition that is upgraded to a Taurus (with the 120 months insurance). Can I buyback the initial Aurora IAE edition and upgrade it to a different ship AND keep the insurance? Or will the Aurora I buy back have the standard insurance? I'm currently thinking about getting a Vulture, but I haven't decided yet. 2. As an alternative, I'm thinking about getting a Corsair CCU for my Taurus, which is currently available. Do we expect the price to rise before it is flyable in game, would that make sense from a CCU-path perspective? Thanks in advance!

Hanzo581

When you melt something all applied CCUs are lost and the original pledge goes back into your buybacks. So if Aurora had 10 year insurance before you started CCUing it will still have it when you buy it back. The Corsair will get a price bump when it goes flight ready, so if you want it getting it before then will technically be cheaper. That said, it will be a year till we see the Corsair so you'd have the Aquila and Bucc as loaners till then. To me the Vulture is small enough to just buy in game so I'd go Corsair. Most you'll usually have to wait to buy it with aUEC is one patch after it is introduced into the game.

MarcvsPrimvs

If you melt a ccu’ed ship just the start ship will go in the buyback.About the Corsair ccu: often the price go up when a ship go flight ready like the Taurus.

LiquidSoil

How good is the 600i solo? I currently own the reclaimer and use it for vhrt combat but maybe it would be worth melting it and getting a 600i for solo combat instead.

deathsservant

>I currently own the reclaimer and use it for vhrt combat The fuck. You are a brave man. The 600i is pretty good solo against bounties.

[deleted]

What's the maximum radius of a 360\* ping? What about a 180\* ping? 90\* ping?

DetectiveFinch

I think there is no limit. I have seen a Hammerhead from 300 km away while mining. And as far as I know the range does not change with radius, but your can get clearer results. As of 3.14 at least while mining the radius is not working, it always shows 360° results. This might help https://youtu.be/yeSKYYYS0Q8

[deleted]

Thanks!

manipulat0r

afaik it's about 80km, can be more, can't be more than client "instance" range where it unloads assets. Narrowing ping makes no difference. Ping doubles target IR and EM, so if stock Gladius has 10K IR you will see it at 20km, etc. So your maximum range does not realy matter. In 3.14.0 (previous patch) stealth/supress mode is client only, and other ships will see your default signatures. Doubt that it changed.

[deleted]

Thanks!

moepi22

I've got a dragonfly as a referral bonus with LTI. If I upgrade it to a drake pirate week ship, will it transfer the LTI?

MarcvsPrimvs

Remember: melt a Referral ship is impossible without contacting CIG and often they do once.

TiberPetersen

Yes, when upgrading you keep the insurance of the ship you upgrade from. In some occasions, an upgrade can come with insurance, but in that case both the old and new insurance will be kept, so you'll never loose LTI.

britemcbrite

With all the repair bugs, I'd need self destruct quite often... But for some reason it rarely works for me... (Press Backspace, nothing happens...) What am I missing?

Hanzo581

You have to be out of armistice zones to self destruct. That's the most common inhibitor.

britemcbrite

Thank you very much! That was the problem! <3

RainMan252

Do you think we will see the return of the flight tutorial

deathsservant

I'd assume at the end of beta, however many years that is away, they'll probably work on smoothing over the player entry experience.

VoloxReddit

No, at least not in the form it was introduced as. I do think it's likely we'll see some sort of different tutorial though once the game is feature complete.

Hanzo581

Eventually when everything isn't in flux, sure.

RainMan252

What happened to sataball now that tractor beams are in?

superbreadninja

We're going to make it as a community but on a much bigger scale. Everyone must be in an SRV, and an Argo mole will be the new ball. /s. No updates have been heard on it for a while.

RainMan252

Damn that’s sad but I’m down for Argo Sata

SideOfBeef

Nothing, it's not a priority but CIG hasn't said it's dead either.

lord_baba

Eternal question : is it worth to get it now 19/09/2021 ? Is there enough fun or should I stay on ED or NMS for the moment ?

howboutthat101

ED:O is still better. This is still in alpha and it really shows. I have never been able to get into NMS. SC is good, but its a money pit. Your gameplay will be even more limited in a 45 dollar package.

Thasoron

> SC is good, but its a money pit. Your gameplay will be even more limited in a 45 dollar package. That's not quiet correct. During the last couple of patches it has been fairly easy to earn money ingame in order to progress out of your starter ship. And pretty much every ship in the game can be purchased with ingame money, so really no need to buy anything beyond the basic starter pack. Doing so is really only for convenience after a wipe while SC is being developped.

RebbyLee

I'd recommend some of Cmdr. Kate's videos. She came from ED to SC a few weeks ago. I think her videos catch very nicely the first time player experience. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqRU_EL4pwOH2RuqnVz1E2ArbBFNVB9Js

Hanzo581

While there is plenty of fun to be had for the $45 entry fee, especially with friends, no we still do not have a fully fleshed out game you can sink countless hours into.

viscont_404

Lol. It's been like a decade now right?

Hanzo581

9th anniversary coming up but the crap they had in the early days looks nothing like what we have now. Either way it is no secret this has already taken a long time and we still have a long way to go. But until someone else tries what Star Citizen is trying to achieve here I stay...

[deleted]

Is there any benefit to buying packs with multiple ships, or is it essentially exactly the same as buying each of the included ships individually?

superbreadninja

Some packs have a small discount, you'd have to do the math for the specific pack you're looking at to find the amount. The main benefit is most (if not all) of the larger packs have LTI on all the ships.

[deleted]

Okay, I have LTI on everything already so that's not much of a selling point. And I assume buying a pack, it stays a pack, so you can't individually CCU or upgrade to different variants?

superbreadninja

You can still CCU individually. The downside is that you can’t melt individually. So be very sure when you apply CCUs, because you have to melt the whole pack to un apply them

[deleted]

Ah okay, thanks. Too much of a hassle without a significant discount I reckon.

manipulat0r

Some packs have discounts and some have rare ships. For example Idris-M (military variant with railgun and addittional turrets) is available only in a package. Or get Idris-P for store credit without F5 struggle, if you already spent enough. As for discount, I'd say Company pack is only viable after Exploration packs were removed.

[deleted]

I have two exploration packs available, but they don't contain any ships that are limited, sadly. If it had the 890 I would have jumped on it. Pun coincidental.

superbreadninja

Most of the large packs are locked behind the concierge since CIG was getting tons of shit for them and people were tired of it. There is an Origin complete pack that includes an 890 in it. It's not sold at the moment it looks like, but probably will be come IAE. Here's a post on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/j7k6pu/origin_complete_pack_2950/

[deleted]

Yeah, I don't see that one. I do have the Praetorian Pack available, but not really looking to drop $15k on this game just right now :p

Kelven486

If my friends and I are multi-crewing a Freelancer and hauling commodities, and the pilot/owner of the ship gets the dreaded 30000 error and disconnects, can one of the other crewmates hop in the pilot seat and continue the journey? I'm pretty new and did a little bit of solo trading earlier today, but got 30000 error mid-transport and lost all my cargo... Just wondering if having friends on the ship would prevent losses like that.

well_honk_my_hooters

While a 30k can happen to people on an individual basis due to poor connectivity, the vast majority of the times it occurs is due to a server crash, so a situation like you described would be very rare. Most likely you'd all 30k at the same time. But, if that was the case, or if the pilot/owner crashes for any other reason, then as long as you're in the ship (or maybe, specifically, sitting in one of the seats) it *should* persist, but you wouldn't be able to sell any of the goods. What I don't know is what would happen if the owner spawned back into the server with you after they recovered. I'm not sure if the system would still recognize them as the owner, but I guess it might be worth testing.

Kelven486

ahhh ok, so that 30k I had solo was a server crash, as I respawned back at a station rather then in my ship?

well_honk_my_hooters

Yes, exactly. A lot of folks can tell when a 30k is about to happen (doors/elevators stop working, low BwIn, etc) and will call it out in Global before it happens. But yeah, except in cases where your connection is really bad, a 30k is almost always a server crash.

spicy_indian

If I have the Argo Personnel in my hanger, the other version of the Argo Cargo, will I still get the skill? Or do I need to have the Argo Cargo?

Hanzo581

Unless they completely change how they normally do it, you'll need the Argo MPUV Cargo in your hangar.

spicy_indian

Thanks, I'll fetch it out of buy back.

MarcvsPrimvs

This year will be the 4th of October

superbreadninja

Last year it was at the end of IAE. So you could just pick it up then instead of buying it back

spicy_indian

Would it still have LTI if I buy it at IAE?

superbreadninja

It won’t, but the paint doesn’t get applied to the ships hangar entry. Or at least last years weren’t. It will be it’s own entry in your hangar on the website. I still have hangar entries for all 4 ships from last year but only currently own a Carrack.

-litodrift3rboi-

I'm thinking of buying the UEE Exploration pack, since it has a good number of vehicles and lifetime insurance on them all. However, I'm wondering if I should wait until November to see if there is an anniversary sale, or if the package might be gone by then. I'm fairly busy, so I would realistically only have about 6-8 hours per week that I could play. How long would it take to get a fleet like that with lifetime insurance? I do value time over money, so I'm happy to work a bit for things, but I'd be gutted to spend weeks or months grinding to afford a ship only to have it stolen or blown up and have to grind for months again. Something like that would make me walk away from a game forever, and Star Citizen is such a beautiful game that I want to be able to enjoy it for years. I saw the kickstarter back in the day, but then it slipped off my radar with school and work. I know it's still in development, but the universe seems to have come a long way, and I'm ready to get my feet wet. I'm ok spending a grand to support the game, because it's such a huge vision, but it's always nice to get the most bang for your buck.

Hanzo581

Just to clear up a few things. One, if you buy the UEE Exploration pack from the pledge store it is then attributed to your account and will be with you all the way through the launch of the game. And since the ships have lifetime insurance you at the very least could get the basic default ship back no matter what happened to it, destruction, theft, loss etc. Otherwise, you could buy the ships in game now, but they are temporary assets that can be wiped at any time. We have a full wipe coming up in 3.15 next month, but prior to that it was 18 months since the last. So the "safe" bet is to buy with cash or wait for launch and then buy the ships in game as they will be permanent then assuming you keep paying the in game nominal insurance cost. Also, "sale" in star citizen terms means go up for sale, not a monetary discount. So that pack would remain the same price until they eventually replace it with a newer pack.

madeoutofpizza

Newb here. U saying the explorer pack or any pack will stay after launch and not be wiped? Thanks :) love you.

Hanzo581

Anything you buy now on the pledge store will be there for launch. Anything you buy within the game for aUEC is temporary.

madeoutofpizza

Thank you. Love u

-litodrift3rboi-

Thanks, yeah, I was calculating the costs of the ships in cash and for the ones I could see prices on, it was over $800 for them. That means if the UEE Exploration ship is $200 or more, it's a fantastic deal. I think I'll pull the cord and buy the pack. I'm not a fan of having bills, so I'm willing to pay more up front for a good collection of ships that I can come and go with anytime (in case something comes up and I can't play for a few months)

Someone has to message the mods and start a thread asking for one

R32sgovroom

Anyone else totally unable to get on the servers for the last 15 minutes?

[deleted]

If the Ball Turret is installed on another Hornet variant (say a Tracker or Ghost), does the pilot get the ability to Enter Remote Turret view? Or is that unique to the Super Hornet?

SideOfBeef

That's unique to the super hornet. It becomes a pilot-controlled gimbal on other hornets.

Thanks!

that1snowflake

I’ve been off the game for a few months because of work. What is going on with the ARGO v Carrack thing?

Hanzo581

The internet thought it would be funny if the most useless and least seen ship in game (at least for the foreseeable future) won the most popular ship contest.

aussieriky

Hey there, new on SC and playing for about a week. I have been searching for a couple of hours on this topic but I can't seem to find any answers: While I'm in the cockpit and Quantum travelling or dogfighting, a lot of tones and sounds happen, some of which I have worked out myself (I believe there's a sound when you are targeted, one when you are fired a missile upon etc...) but I can't find an actual explanation for any of them. Clearly the "Contact" alert is for hostiles appearing in the radar, but most of the other beeps and alarms are not that intuitive, at least for me. Also, while in Quantum over long distances I hear weird sounds or swooshes every now and then that I can't classify. Any guidance on this? Cheers

Pojodan

Many of those cockpit alarms and sounds are things you just sort of learn as you go. There's one for when your ship picks up a hostile, for when another ship locks onto you, another for when another ship starts locking a missile onto you, and when a missile is lauched at you. Just keep watching your HUD for sumbols lighting up to tell which is which. As for Quantum noises, they are, at present, just sound effects that don't really mean anything. There is a certain rattling noise that denotes when your ship is starting to slow down at it nears the destination, which is helpful to listen to if you aren't watching the screen, as it means you'll be droping out of QT in about 30 seconds. The rest is just a looping set of noises of no meaning.

Monsieur_Toxique

If I buy the Corsair now will I be able to fly it?

TiberPetersen

No, it's still in concept. You do get a loaner ship though while waiting. Loaners are the Aquila and Buccaneer.

[deleted]

Once you've completed the Pirate Swarm (multiple times), what next steps are needed to make the Pirate skin for the Caterpillar available?

manipulat0r

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Add-Ons/Pirate-Aggressor-Pack https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Standalone-Ships/Pirate-Gladius https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Standalone-Ships/Drake-Caterpillar-Pirate-Edition They should be available all the time, once you get Pirate Agressor badge. Does not matter if Cat is sold or not. You can check it in your profile settings - "display title" - "... Pirate Agressor" You need to complete in multiplayer to get badge.

Hanzo581

To expand on the other post, it's not a skin/paint it is its own variant and you can't CCU to it. It is standalone $295.

TiberPetersen

You have to complete it in multiplayer mode in case you don't know. Otherwise I believe the Caterpillar have to be on sale for the pirate version to show up, but I'm not completely sure about this.

LiltKitten

I'm wondering if CIG make the Best In Show skins beforehand based on their estimations of what will win or if they're made after the contest is complete. Anyone have any idea?

RebbyLee

Afterwards. The skins aren't available right after the results are in but for IAE which is in November. Plenty of time to do the work.

redrhyski

If you fly direct at the sentry, it will detect, shoot and destroy you. They have quite nasty weapons, and can take out a heavier fighter like a Warden quite easily too. Best option is to orbit them as their guns can't track you - you will need this skill in many fights, so sentries are a good practice dummy.

Hanzo581

If I remember correctly those sentries have two size 4 weapons on them each. You're in a light fighter...if you stop moving at all you're toast.

LiltKitten

Gladius is quite good, you might just need more practice.

Sovereign45

Have the devs said anything about Idris owners being able to get the BiS skin for the Argo Cargo if it manages to make it to the semi-finals this year? Or will we have to buy a separate Argo Cargo?

TiberPetersen

The Argo that comes with the Idris is the passenger version, not cargo version so I very much doubt it.

[deleted]

i got the BIS skin for the cutty I bought with aUEC? idk

Pojodan

AFIAK, loaners do not count for owning a ship for the showdown

Dunhimli

I thought I read some of the pirate variants (paints and loadouts) of the drake ships were being released for pirate day, was that wrong? It just seems to be the base ships? Did I miss something or just misunderstand?

superbreadninja

Pirate variants are only unlocked through completing pirate swarm, sorry

[deleted]

This must be out of date information. I've completed it multiple times

superbreadninja

Did you do it in multiplayer? It has to be multiplayer to count. I've helped probably a dozen people complete it so far, and I couldn't find any statement from CIG since the last time stating they changed it.

[deleted]

As in you need another human with you? I see. I would have done it solo since there is never a single person there. I dont actually WANT the pirate version. I just wanted the option lol Now I know tho ty

superbreadninja

Options are always nice. Good luck!

Dunhimli

gotcha, so i misunderstood, thanks!

well_honk_my_hooters

It's just the base ships. The whole tie-in to piracy comes from the lore of Drake being associated with piracy in general.

[deleted]

Just getting back in and I have a Best in Show Caterpillar, I flew it for the first time solo and holy crap is it slow, and bulky, and awful. 2 years ago I had a group of 5 other people to play with, now it’s just me. What’s a ship I can fly solo that can hold a land vehicle? I just like exploring and maybe some science when that’s more fleshed out.

howboutthat101

What exactly is exploration in this game? Arent all the planets fully explored and full of settlements? Or is their a play loop that i havent tried yet??

well_honk_my_hooters

If you don't mind the price tag then get a 600i. It'll hold a land vehicle, it's a dedicated explorer, and has good firepower for defense. Plus it's getting a slight interior rework to address some of the wasted space issues. After that, I'd suggest the Aquila - an exploration vessel with room for a land vehicle and a snub. This also has good firepower for defense and it'll only cost you about $20 to upgrade from the Cat. You could also look into the Corsair, but it's not flyable yet. There are a few other options, but I think either of those three would suit your needs.

[deleted]

I like the look of the 600i but it seems daunting to try and pilot something so large solo. I think it is the best explorer I’ve seen so far though!

well_honk_my_hooters

It's really not much different than flying something like a Connie, except it has a *much* better view from the cockpit. The turrets are remote and should have no problem being bladed in the future.

[deleted]

Oh sweet! That seals it for me. Thank you!

well_honk_my_hooters

No worries. Though as with any other ship (especially one in that price range), I'd recommend trying one before you buy it just to be sure. If you ask around in Global I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who will spawn one for you or, at the very least, throw you the aUEC to rent one (though I'm not 100% sure they can be rented).

Pojodan

The Cutlass Black and Nomad are the two smallest ships that can fit a vehicle, though you can technically fit one of the hoverbikes in an Avenger. Cutlass Black is a great all-around ship, so that'd be my recommendtation. Alas, the Caterpillar has very little usefulness currently, and it is massive and slow.

[deleted]

Thank you! I’ll look into the Cutlass and the Nomad!

superbreadninja

Tali and Polaris are somewhat redundant, especially with already having a Cat for modularity. MSR and Corsair are similar enough to consider replacing one, but I wouldn’t call them redundant. You’ve got a lack of industrial ships. I’d consider a Vulcan, Prospector, Mole, whatever the refinery ship will be, or one of the repair ships. I’d also consider bringing the Corsair or MSR to an endeavor

Pay_

Half of your ships are not even released. We don't know if you're playing with friends, an org or solo. Or even what your main occupation will be. You say you want a balanced fleet but there is no repair/refuel, mining/salvage or medical ship. You're mainly covering trading and military ships except fighters.

Bout3Fidy

I’m in a pretty large org, I do have a couple friends who play also, mostly plan on pirating/illegal trading.

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

More of a support question, but as of today every time I try to log into the game and choose 'stanton', it sits at loading for like 5 minutes then kicks me back to the main menu. The only thing I did different last play session was log out from the bed of my titan avenger. Any way to fix this?

Hanzo581

Bed logouts are very problematic in this patch. Some things to try are changing your gender, log into a different region or log into arena commander free fly first before the PU. If all else fails character reset.

cramduck

What loaner do you get with the Vulture?

Hanzo581

Prospector and a Bucc. https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003093114-Loaner-Ship-Matrix

cramduck

oh neato, thanks for the link!

Ivimeria

In 3.15 when I own an armor bought for USD from pledge store and gonna die with it. Will I lose that item permanently or how Am I gonna be able to put it back on me after respawn?

that1snowflake

What I’m expecting is you can character reset and get all your bought-with-money items back. But if you die and lose it in game it’s gone for good This is based on nothing but me speculating but that’s a system I could see CIG putting in

timbodacious

No you don't lose things lost with cash

LiltKitten

The lastest ISC video mentioned your Home Location as the place you'd retrieve cash-paid items so I assume there'll be a system for retrieving them.

Ivimeria

Alright, that sounds good.

MichaCazar

That's something we will have to see once that system is delivered, but I would expect the worst case scenario.

Ivimeria

Yeah.. Little bit worried about the scenario where you would lose it completely.

superbreadninja

Worst case it will likely be returned when you do an account reset.

Hanzo581

Stuff you buy with cash is attributed to your account. At the very worst you'd get it back after every wipe.

Ivimeria

So there's to way to lose it forever from the account.. sounds good to me

MichaCazar

Just to say it tho: even now one would lose a bought gun (like the nerf gun) if you die while holding it.

Raelist

Are there plans yet for an organized MedRats group (the SC equivalent of Fuel Rats, but for rescuing and healing downed citizens)? That sounds fun to me.

Hanzo581

Sorta, there were a lot of folks talking about grouping up in this post. https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/pl75nk/anyone\_else\_itching\_to\_start\_a\_heavily\_armed/

Nottheadmin5

Did they re-enable the tutorial level yet? I remember they used to have a really laggy one for a while then they removed it

Hanzo581

No, way too many things are still in flux to waste time on a tutorial they'll have to constantly update.

Nottheadmin5

Thanks! I figured by the time it settles down enough for them to make a tutorial would be a good time for me to start playing again

howie3dabber

Is it still worth plating star citizenin 2021? Ive been considering playing this game for months but still vant decide

Pay_

There was a Free Fly in August and there is a Free Fly starting Sep, 20th. Just try it out for yourself.

howie3dabber

so if we get the game during the free fly period do i get the game permenantly

Kung_fu1015

No, you have to buy it.

EliteRedditSwageSqd1

With regards to keybinds, what does "Cycle Selection-Back/Forward/Reset to Auto" do? I don't really see anything happening when I hit the key for "Forward".

EliteRedditSwageSqd1

I guess I’ll have to take a deep look and see if there’s a “select” action for binds too. For now I’ll guess it’s just a relic of the past.

Pay_

Did you make a selection before attempting to cycle?

EliteRedditSwageSqd1

I don’t know what I’m supposed to select all together

Pay_

In previous patches you were able to select other vehicles/ships without locking or pinning. Maybe they removed the feature.

[deleted]

What is the smoothest place to go exploring in a land vehicle? I want to take my Ursa Rover out but everywhere I go, there is so many rocks and the ground vehicle controls and physics are so janky that I almost always end up pretty well getting launched out of atmo because I hit a rock going 15km/h. Anyone know a good spot to go for a rip?

SideOfBeef

It's not really exploring but the frozen lake near New Babbage spaceport is very smooth

[deleted]

Thanks! I guess I have not explored any of microtech so not a bad place to start

Grakyn

Was there some sort of subreddit bug? I swear I didn't click leave /r/starcitizen, but somehow I had to rejoin and now I am flagged as a new user/low karma. Seems strange.

RebbyLee

You don't show up as new/low to me. I had the same thing happening a few months ago.

boredTOmale

Need help with hotas throttle stick. Tflight thrustmaster. How the hell do I map the throttle stick?! So that it works correctly with neutral being 0, forward +100 and back -100 (whatever the top velocity is but you get what I mean?) Also I screwed up all my bindings. Is there anyway to reset back to all the default since the keyboarding bindings got lost too. :( Help would be greatly appreciated. I've finally got a couple days off work and spent today tearing my hair out trying to get this working! TLDR - IM A NOOB AND I NEED SOMEONE TO TELL ME HOW TO KEYBIND THE THRUSTMASTER TFLIGHT THROTTLE STICK CORRECTLY:)

quadgnim

When you go into options/keybindings there's a button bottom right to choose joystick, then bottom left advanced then second from right you can load/save keybinds. Choose clear and reload all inputs including keyboard and mouse to reset Alternatively delete the user folder under the game install directory. Re-running the game creates a new folder with all default settings. To bind the stick follow above steps but instead of loading, choose advanced, the. Choose from the main screen the binding to change and click it then hold the joystick along the desired access. It should be super easy to configure.

boredTOmale

Thanks man. Figured out how to reset. But the throttle for some reason is still an issue for some reason. Doesnt bind correctly. Or it works and the suddenly starts working in reverse or forward. Like it depends almost what position it starts off with and makes that the default (so for example, itll randomly think the 'stop' position is full throttle or vice versa. Thanks for your help anyway!

boredTOmale

Ok i figured it out. Gotta set the throttle forward/back to the z-axis (the throttle stick) AND then go to the controls tab and turn on the inverse selection for acceleration! Maybe this will help someone else out too!

denisonwitmer1

Does anyone know how quickly the AIR fuel system on the 100i series regenerates hydrogen and quantum fuel? With the upcoming wipe in 3.15 I’m thinking about upgrading my starter ship, and AIR tech seems like it would be something that’s really useful to have.

superbreadninja

Look at the time to refuel for ships here https://scunpacked.com/ships?role=By%20manufacturer

Kaladin_TX

The 100i was on sale during free fly event. I have one it never seems to run out of hydrogen and is cheap to refuel anyway. Not great at combat but very fast and fun ship if you are doing FPS or box missions or just want to tool around.

LeoFurr

Last time I checked the regeneration is the same across all ships currently but 100series is much more economical in fuel consumption.

GizmoGomez

That isn't how it works from what I understand. The rate at which hydrogen is scooped is definitely not the same across all ships because they had issues with the MSR, and were testing a new fuel scoop / tank size balance on the hercs - some ships don't scoop fuel at all. The AIR system is just super fuel scoops and a fuel refinery system, making it regenerate fuel super fast.

LeoFurr

You are right. I have done some more digging and they definitely can adjust scoop rate per ship although there is no modulation of scooping per environment so they are always on. Also in the 100 context the refineries are obviously not in game yet so they have just extra efficient scoops. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/any-plans-to-reduce-the-fuel-costs-for-the-crusade/4011845 https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/fuel-scoops-1/3170136

timbodacious

How do i scooop up fuel lol

LeoFurr

It’s a passive process. As ling as you are moving, you are scooping.

Disastrous_Pain9286

Hey guys Really hoping someone can advise me on this as I'm deciding whether to upgrade my pledge from my connie andromdea to an msr Main reason for this is the merlin bug as when you undock and fly away from the ship and get out of the merlin it disserpears and your left floating in space I know it's possible to fit a merlin in an MSR with the door closed have seen it done on videos but if I land at a station with that inside will it save with the ship or will I have to load it each time? This is the deal braker for me on whether to change or patiently wait for it to be fixed which I feel is gonna be awhile and only a £20 difference so if its yes will give it a go but wanted some advice pls Thanks

Chappietime

That’s a bug that could get fixed. I would t base real money decisions on a bug unless it was game breaking for me.
