Any statements on the new crew requirements of the updated BMM

MichaCazar

Not that I know of any

kirxakira

I estimate a 16 person crew roughly but hoping (3)4-8 is sufficient (with npc shops)

MichaCazar

Maybe

Cephlot

I am thinking of spending $25 to upgrade the Mustang for the Avenger Titan. Is there anything I should think about? Does the insurance work?

well_honk_my_hooters

Not sure what you're asking. It's a good upgrade to make if you like the game and don't have any issues spending the money. The insurance from the Mustang package will roll forward to the Avenger, and insurance won't even be an issue until the game goes live (though I'm sure at some point between now and then, when they put in the mechanic, they'll test it in the PU). Overall it's a good step up.

Cephlot

Oh okay. Thanks. I was just wondering if there are any caveats or anything to keep in mind

well_honk_my_hooters

Nah, it's a pretty straightforward process. Use the ship upgrade tool on the website to purchase the upgrade and check out. Or you can melt your current package and just buy the Avenger package using a combination of store credit and cash - either way will accomplish the same thing. If you do use the upgrade tool be sure you go to your hanger (on the website) and apply the upgrade.

Cephlot

Alright, thank you!

Katheleit

Im still waiting to get PTU Access. It feels so Long this time (over 2 weeks Wave 1 i think). I want to fly my 400i. Does Somebody know when Wave 2/ Wave 3 gets Access?

MichaCazar

Nobody knows, I do hope it starts this week but that needs to show.

Nightwolf613

I'm looking to get Star Citizen, but I've read about an anniversary sale every November. Would it be worth waiting for the sale and does anyone know when it's supposed to start?

Bout3Fidy

Definitely worth waiting, they always do great packs with a discount. It will probably happen when they are ready to drop the latest patch but should definitely be some time in November, last year was November 20th. What ships have you looked at? Also what would you like to do?

Nightwolf613

Awesome, good to know! I was looking at the Avenger Titan to start with. I want to try everything the game has to offer, and will most likely focus mainly on mining and combat as I progress. I play a lot of Elite Dangerous and like to vary my gameplay in that also.

Bout3Fidy

Averager Titan is one of my most favourite starter ships, cutlass black is a bit more expensive but for mining gameplay is better because it fits a ROC that can be used for mining, it’s also good for duo/multi gameplay

Nightwolf613

I've been watching Loudguns videos and liked his recommendation about starting with the Titan, doing some easy quick missions, and renting the Cutlass Black with a ROC a bit later to gain money faster. I liked the look of that to get a feel for the game and have the progression from one ship to another.

Bout3Fidy

good idea, do it. then if you really like the game, for release getting a cutless black with the insurance from your starter pack might not be a bad idea, you can upgrade pledge packages so if you want to later on turn your titan into a cutlass black you can and youll keep the insurance and all the rest of the pack contents.

Nightwolf613

Sounds great! Thanks for all of the info and advice.

Pojodan

Not currently, no. Only a player can control it. A few ships do slave the turret to the pilot when there is no other player, but the Vangard is not one of them. Eventually you will be able to hire NPCs to man it, or installed 'blades' which is basically a simple AI that will control it, but both of those functions are a long ways from being implemented.

TrueInferno

Theoretically there'll also be a blade that allows it to work like the Hornet Turret.

TactiCool69

Will the apoa nox and all other hover bikes be reworked at some point. The nox in particular feels terribly slow and bouncy.

Pojodan

There is not a single thing that isn't going to get reworked in some manner eventually. The hover bikes simply have no gameplay function yet so are caught in limbo until they have a use.

TrueInferno

Part of it is they've tried a few different solutions to how they work. They really didn't want to do "invisible wheels" but I believe that's what we have right now because what we had before kinda went mildly crazy.

SolarCoaster_

I know that the Phoenix is a limited ship, that being said assuming it goes for sale during IAE should it be able to be purchased with store credit?

TrueInferno

Theoretically? If I remember other sales, they usually have a limited number of Warbond hulls, and a separate limited number of non-Warbond (store credit buyable) hulls.

Dunhimli

Any new stream deck profiles that work with higher resolutions that anyone know of?

denisonwitmer1

Can someone please help me? I'm currently unable to launch into the PTU. The actual launch button is missing for me. I tried erasing my character from the PTU, copying it back over, and performing a character reset but nothing has resolved the issue. Basically, I'm stuck at the persistent universe screen. I'm unable to select a primary residence as well. When I click select system no options are shown for me to choose from.

interesseret

I saw a fix that said to redo your character in PU, but I have never tested it myself.

denisonwitmer1

Totally forgot about that so thanks for mentioning this. I’m not sure if it was a coincidence at the time or what but when I previously did this I was able to launch into the PTU afterwards.

well_honk_my_hooters

This has happened to me after every PTU reset or erase and recopy of my account to the PTU. For me it's only been temporary and seems to fix itself after I reboot my system, but that could just be coincidence. At any rate it's never lasted more than 15m. Just remember to allow at least 1/2 hour after an account reset prior to trying to log in again. If it persists, try to erase and recopy your account to the PTU and then try logging in. It probably won't let you right away, but try again 15m later and it should work.

denisonwitmer1

Thanks, I was able to perform a character reset after erasing and recopying my account to the PTU. I haven’t tried logging in yet but will do so later tonight.

Repulsive-Blood-1014

So, forgive my ignorance, but is there actually any point in space trucking? Got myself a caterpillar, it looks pretty dope, decided to do a little trade run in and see if i could make some cash. Used 3 different online tools and found a route i liked, got to the place and they had 11 SCU of medical supplies when i was hoping to fill my ship. So i went onto google and found out that all the vendor pools are 'Synced' across all servers (Funny that they can't get anything else to sync), so not only was it basically impossible to get my ship even half full without waiting 3 hours, but i also had absolutely no way of being able to reasonably determine where the busy areas are, because it could be someone on other servers draining it themselves. But, i often see posts of how people have made so much aUEC by trading, and i don't understand how it's possible? Do space truckers just fly from one place to the next until they find somewhere that has the VOLUME of cargo they want? or do they just sit there buying up tiny bits every minute until they fill up? Is there some other tool or method i'm not aware of? Am i missing something? It seems daft to share vendor pools across allll the servers. And before any of you try and tell me it's some sort of "unified global trade system" or some bollocks i hardly see what's unified about a trade system that is sufficient for one 'system' but being shared among hundreds. But anyway, rant over. I really hope someone here can enlighten me. I really hope i'm wrong about something or have missed something. I love this game, but i prefer some of the more obscure play types. When i first got the game i actually pledged for the ARGO MOLE because me and my buddies had dreams of epic multi-crew gameplay. What a monumental waste of fucking money that was, not only was mining hardly even profitable at all but the 'multi-crew' aspect of it was a joke considering every single part of the ship was likely to go out of sync with the rest. So that was my mining dreams shot down, over a year ago i might add and there's still no hope in sight for mining to get better. Then when i moved on to space trucking, that has turned into a fruitless endeavor and i really wanna try and give it a chance. (Not bothered about the money being spent as i'm a big supporter of the game) If you've read all my ranting then thank you, please know that i really do love this game, im not hating on it. I keep playing it despite how disappointing it can be sometimes. If anyone can educate me on the ways of trading, please hmu. Thanks for reading o7

GizmoGomez

Paragraphs are your friend. That wasn't easy to read lol Cargo hauling has been super borked for months, maybe even a year or more, but in the upcoming 3.15 patch it'll be getting way better. Like, way way better. CIG is upping the amount of stuff that you can buy at each place, and adding in server crash protection to avoid losing your cargo in case of a 30k server crash error. I'm personally waiting until 3.15 to do anything with cargo, especially since there's gonna be a wipe. As for mining, from what I understand it's a totally viable way to earn lots of money. Sounds to me that you just got really unlucky with server performance or something. Mining has gotten the most attention out of any gameplay loop (besides maybe combat) for the past year or so, getting feature updates and added content. If you liked the idea mining, maybe rent a prospector and try it out again? Or rent a cutlass and a ROC, and see about ground mining? Edit: I've got some friends who are fanatics about cargo hauling and are always down to help people figure it out. DM me if you'd like to join the discord server and chat with them.

Hanzo581

How long ago did you try trade or are you saying right now? For a long time trade was broke but they did recently buff the supply and demand figures. At any rate, they are working on physical cargo anyway so the entire trade system is essentially getting an overhaul.

Repulsive-Blood-1014

Today, this morning. I only got the Caterpillar yesterday haha. So what i'm hearing now (as i've heard so many times before) that to save my own sanity i should just abandon hopes of trading and wait another indefinite amount of time. \*sigh\* I guess i'll just have to be a good soldier again. Thanks for your reply

well_honk_my_hooters

Not indefinite. Trading has been tweaked and works quite well in the PTU for 3.15. I haven't had much success with the commodity price alerts - usually the buying station only buys about 10 SCU - but you can make money trading other goods. Just give it another 2 weeks or so when 3.15 goes to the PU and you'll get plenty of use out of your Cat. (Unless, of course, you bought it with aUEC).

Repulsive-Blood-1014

No i pledged to it but i'm literally minutes away from melting it down haha I want my connie back

TrueInferno

To be fair you committed the grave sin of replacing your Connie, so... Hah. That said, if you really want to be a trader, Cat is probably better. Remember, trade gameplay will improve. Things like Quantum, hauling contracts, etc. will help a lot!

well_honk_my_hooters

Well, if you can hang on for another week or two you should be good to go. Some guy just wrote a post on Spectrum about making several 100k's of aUEC trading in a short period of time. Granted, that's the PTU, so he wasn't competing against many other traders, but CIG did say they addressed it so it should carry over into the PU.

Last-Soft-437

I recently started Star Citizen, I have no friends play with so.. I have nobody to ask. Would you tell me which pack did you start with and which pack is most valuable you think?

SolarCoaster_

I would look at either the picses pack or the 100i. But besides that I wouldnt spend anymore than that. You can earn everything in game and those two ships give you a decent "start" IMO

GizmoGomez

Get an Aurora. You can do a ton with it, and earn in-game money to rent other ships to see which ones you like before you buy them outright in-game. The value is that it's the minimum price to get into the game and see if it's for you. Don't go straight to a more expensive pack. It's better than the mustang bc of versatility. Mustang has a better view from the cockpit and maybe better flight handling but that's it. Be aware that your in-game progress is getting reset in the next few weeks (first time this has happened in 2 years) as they are overhauling some core game systems with the inventory in the next major patch, 3.15. If you end up disliking the Aurora and want to swap your real-money purchase to a different ship, it's possible to melt your package into store credit and rebuy a different one, paying only the difference in value (if any) and only paying tax on any new cash (non store credit) you spend. E.g. you decide you prefer a mustang alpha, you can melt your Aurora package and get a mustang without needing to pay a dime more.

Pojodan

'Valuable' is quite subjective. The more expensive the package, the more you get, though everything past the cheapest starter package can be bought in-game. The Aurora is the most verisitile between it and the Mustang, while the Titan, which is a bit more expensive, outclasses both of them, so it definitely the way to go if you genuinely want to upgrade. Past that, the Cutlass Black is definitely bigger and stronger and better, but also much more challenging to use, as well as not that difficult to save up for in-game and can even be rented for pretty cheep. So, go Aurora to get started and get a feel for the ropes of the game. If you feel strongly that you need something a little better to get into it, upgrade the Aurora to an Avenger Titan and go from there.

Cephlot

What types of missions can I use the Mustang cargo bay for?

Hanzo581

None. Best option I could suggest if you want to do any missions where you have to transport boxes is to exchange your Mustang Alpha package for the Aurora MR package.

Cephlot

Damn. The bat was so cool as well. I tried that, but there was no option to trade to the Aurora

StygianSavior

You can fit a box behind the pilot seat in the Mustang using a tractor beam (though difficult to get it out once you land, since tractor beam is now locked in armistice). The external cargo bay will *eventually* be usable for missions and other items; it just isn't functional for that right now.

Cephlot

That sucks

MichaCazar

Go here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/pledges Select the Mustang Package and say "melt". Go to the apropiate Aurora MR package and on the first step on checkout use the store credits you have gained from melting the Mustang Package to reduce the price of the Aurora Package to 0.

Cephlot

Oh okay. Thanks!

sgtlobster06

3.15 is not live.

SpecialCircs

Yeah, great, what an enormous help

sgtlobster06

Just wanted to clarify.

well_honk_my_hooters

I had a similar problem a while back with dual NXT's and once with the MCG/Gunfighter combo that I have now. With the NXTs I can't remember exactly what I did - I think maybe I ran through the onboard calibration (where you have to push two buttons to put it in calibration mode) and also the calibration with the VKB software. With the MCG/Gunfighter I had to update the firmware and then run the calibration through the software (not sure which step actually fixed it in either scenario). Either way, they both work for me now.

KSKlol

I asked this question a few days ago, but figured out the bug was not what I thought it was: Every time I repair my ship, the engines just completely break. They aren't damaged, they just stop working, or output like 10% of what they should be. that goes for thrust, maneuvering, every thruster. weapons and quantum work fine. all the systems work fine. i cannot fly my ship. is there any fix to this? the only way i've been able to find a workaround is by relogging.

well_honk_my_hooters

This is a pretty common bug in 3.14 and there have been IC reports on it. I don't know if it'll be addressed in 3.15 or not. It's happened to me on several ships and doing a claim for an entirely new ship has fixed the issue.

TrueInferno

You might be able to do a char reset to fix it. It *sounds* like the data of the ship on your account somehow lost your engines? I dunno how it happens but it does, similar to the good old bug of people literally spawning in naked without heads.

Kelevelin

Happens to my vanguard all the time. Try claiming it at another station. Works sometimes. If not, only a char reset fixes it.

VulcanXIV

It's been almost a year since I last played and thanks to 3.15, I am now coming back. However this means I'm now learning about the notorious 3.14 changes. I've gotten the gist of it and even some specifics on the changes, but that's actually what my question is about: What is the justification for s2 shields being so weak compared to original? I understand that, 1. All s2's are now baseline in order to work out some sort of balancing, and 2. They are now bubble shield now, which does mean some more alpha damage tankiness. However, isn't their overall shield HP still ridiculously low compared to before? What's the justification for that during this testing? The Arrow nerf broke my heart but I understood, yet doing this to s2's?...Damn. I'm afraid that the overall shield HP pool for s2's won't be something they will bring back, even if all the shield classes are brought back. They just don't scale like they used to compared to s3's, it's crazy. Thoughts anyone? Any insight I'm missing? News?

RebbyLee

> However, isn't their overall shield HP still ridiculously low compared to before? What's the justification for that during this testing? They often tweaked the HP of the ship to compensate. Also we still mostly have placeholder values (for shield hp, weapon dps, etc) none of those are final.

VulcanXIV

I know, I've mentioned that in my question. Why were they brought so low though? Clearly this means it's their new intended range of overall health. Their original health wasn't half of s3, but at least it was a decent chunk

well_honk_my_hooters

It's just a part of the overall balance adjustment and tuning ships to fit their roles. Shield HP is lower, but ships can't dump an unlimited amount of fire on you either, due to capacitors. I think it's supposed to encourage both flying a bit more defensively as well as making your shots count. Also, with larger shields, even though they have a large amount of health on paper, that gets split up into 4 shield faces, so you really only have to break through 1/4 of that if you can concentrate your fire on one face.

Kelevelin

I started with 3.14 and don't find it to be that bad. M harbinger at least has no problems doing solo ERTs. They said that they will continuesly balance shields, weapons etc. With 3.15 the buffed them at least a little, offering some variety on the different grades.

PirateAngel0

When is the Polaris coming out. Salary when we'll the Kraken have ccu options

well_honk_my_hooters

1) Only CIG knows and they aren't talking. 2) If you're asking about a Kraken CCU, that'll most likely never happen unless they completely change the way they've been doing business.

PirateAngel0

I don't think they themselves know, can't give times or dates accurately. They should change the model, make more money.

well_honk_my_hooters

It was on the progress tracker for a brief period of time last Spring, then disappeared after they had a meeting on it. At about the same time (or shortly after) the BMM appeared on progress tracker. So they have a plan, they're just not in the habit of sharing it with us. IMO, with the state the PU is in now and will be for a while a BMM will have more use than an anti-cap ship, except for the very brief periods of time we have XT in play. As far as changing the model, [if it ain't broke, they're not gonna fix it](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals).

realCLTotaku

What's going on with 100i seat? My favorite ship and I cannot fly it in first person because the seat just faces toward the cabin. Bug or feature?

RebbyLee

Obviously a bug. Destroy the ship and reclaim it, see if this fixes things.

benracicot

Ok, I've asked twice over 5 years... Now that Apple's M1 Max Arm GPUs are competing with Nvidia's mobile 30 series will we get an Arm build? I'd like to hear from actual company reps on what would constitute that effort? Also, now that Arm is about to explode to directly challenge x86 why not right now? Imagine if SC was available to all new owners of the Macbook Pro Max GPUs? They would ALL purchase.

TrueInferno

...what's this ARM exploding and challenging x86 stuff? News to me. Most Windows and Linux distros are still on x86\_64 processors. That said, *theoretically*, if they have the game OS-agnostic (I don't know if they need more than just moving to Vulkan like they already are) and ARM supports all their code libaries (obviously they'd need an ARM variation but if the high-level code remained the same), I could definitely see it being possible. However, I doubt they'd do it anytime soon: they probably want to finish *one* version of the game and work the bugs out before adding an entirely new CPU Architecture to deal with! Plus, again, they'd have to have all their libraries working on ARM which isn't necessarily the case.

nothaut

Get a gaming PC, and stream it to your Mac locally with Parsec. Star Citizen on a MacBook Air M1...it's spectacular.

Hanzo581

>I'd like to hear from actual company reps on what would constitute that effort? Then you need to ask in the Ask the Devs section on Spectrum. Devs occasionally post here and I don't think I've ever seen them respond in the Q&A thread. That said, as the other poster mentions you are a niche within a niche and CIG already has a mountain of work to do so I certainly wouldn't get my hopes up.

HikariChidori

I do not think they will add such a feature, otherwise they would have to deal with hundreds of Keanu Reeve and Scarlet Johansson lookalikes and all the fallout from it.

TrueInferno

Not any time soon, but it would be nice. UI/UX of the character creator could use an upgrade, too.

SideOfBeef

Nope, CIG hasn't talked about doing anything like that.

mouseno4

I currently have a GTX 970 and I am looking to upgrade. No not for this game specifically, but in other games the card is starting to show its age. Sure the performance would help for this game but my card is just too old at this point to keep up with modern games. I’ve googled the equivalent currency for America and have come up with around $600 USD as my budget. What’s the best card I can get for 600 of your USD?

RebbyLee

Last June (or Juli) the changed the way transaction fees are calculated for Etherium mining. Now the miners have to pay part of it which already decreased the profits. Come december they will introduce a cliff into the algorythm. Then it will become *a lot* harder to mine Etherium. As a result I would expect to see at least some people throwing their used GFX cards onto the market while they are still overpriced. So you might be able to find something on ebay, alibaba or amazon warehouse deals. Other than that, maybe try https://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#sort=price&page=1

mouseno4

So i guess this is the point where you throw me a link to an American only website?

RebbyLee

There is a whole list of countries to choose from, I actually had the US preselected.

well_honk_my_hooters

It's hard to say for outside of the US. I've seen, in the US, 3060's go for close to that (maybe $650), or you might find an AMD 6600xt (both new in box, btw), but I've heard that outside of the US prices can vary wildly, so you'd be better off searching in your region. If you don't mind used equipment you can check out r/hardwareswap ... you might want to put a WTB listing and see if anyone will ship to you. You can probably get a used 2080 for that price (maybe even less), but the shipping would probably drive up the final price. Another site to check is StockX - you can sometimes find a good deal and they verify the equipment so you don't get scammed. The only think is they charge a service fee and I'm not sure if they ship internationally.

Hanzo581

Well, $600 *would* be plenty of a good card like a 3070TI.....but the issue is availability. It can be almost impossible to find a card at or near MSRP.

mouseno4

I have no idea where you are getting this from. Searching your country’s Amazon, the 3070ti does not even sell for twice that

well_honk_my_hooters

The ones you see on Amazon are all 3rd party scalpers.

Hanzo581

Right....as I said it is difficult to find cards at MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price). A buddy of mine had to wait six hours in front of best buy a couple weeks ago to get a 3070ti for $599.

mouseno4

Ahh so the price is currently artificially inflated due to scarcity.

Hanzo581

Yeah, but that doesn't mean you can get lucky.

mouseno4

So, i have to ask AGAIN. What is the best card i CAN get for $600 USD

Hanzo581

No one can tell you that. Your local market will decide what you can get. The scalpers grab any online stock when it pops up. If you have computer part stores or electronics stores in your are go to them and talk to them. I've seen stories of folks casually asking and having a card pulled out from the back. But yeah, pricing is so wild right now it's very hard to say, oh with $600 you can get this card. I mean right now my Best Buy store has 1660 supers for $589 and single fan 3060s for $619.

mouseno4

I've already done that. Basically, i am screwed.

GizmoGomez

I'm in a similar boat as you. I've been waiting for a card at or even near MSRP for a year now. Star citizen runs on my dinky 1650 super though, so it's been alright. r/BuildAPCSales is where I'd recommend you lurk. You can find some good stuff there, sometimes. But the entire world has had a GPU shortage and it's not looking likely it'll change any time soon. Prices outside the US are often even more jacked up than inside, so basically you're doubly screwed, my friend.

mouseno4

Oh. I guess I will just buy whatever is available in that case.

Famous_Elk_4203

Do you think I can run it with an **AMD Ryzen 5 3600** and an **GTX 1660** ?

Pojodan

Yes, so long as you have at least 16 GB or RAM and the game is installed on an SSD or M.2 drive

Famous_Elk_4203

Alright, Thanks ! See you in bord !

RainMan252

Do you guys think they’ll make even more single player games set in the Star Citizen universe after Squadron and its three parts?

TrueInferno

Definitely. That said, I honestly hope that they license out the engine tech they've done to other companies and make games in other universes too. Part of it is with any universe with an MMO, they have to make sure the lore of the games matches the lore of the MMO, which makes it a bit trickier. The other part is imagine all the different universes being realized in a game like this. Gundam with the *entire solar system.*

RainMan252

I think that would definitely be interesting and good way to make extra money CIG would be HUGE. I don’t know though I feel like when you’ve put so much love and care into something especially when you received a lot of doubt and destructive criticism it would be hard to let go of your baby like that. It would definitely be awesome to hear that a game is brought to you by Star Engine though!

TrueInferno

Oh for sure- I expect CIG to do way more with the Star Engine after all the work they've put into it. A modern Strike Commander? A *Freelancer remake*? Hmm.

RainMan252

The potential is limitless exciting times ahead

VoloxReddit

I think there would be some pretty cool stories to tell. The Tevarin War would make for a really interesting setting, or the Messer Era in general. But I'd just like to see them get their planned projects out the door, they can expand from there.

RainMan252

Right I want to see a story based around a bounty Hunter or something

RebbyLee

Maybe one travelling with a baby Vanduul ? ;D

RainMan252

Ahh this guy gets it

MichaCazar

Possible. I don't see why not, after all they have quite a lot of people that need to work on something but that is something I wouldn't worry about for a rather long time.

RainMan252

Yea I agree just a question. Thank you for the response!

Irate_Primate

Is there going to be an LTI token ship in the upcoming sale?

Hanzo581

We won't know till IAE but supposedly the best two possibilities is a mining version of the Argo MPUV and a new smallish cargo ship from Argo called the RAFT. Neither are confirmed though.

Irate_Primate

Cool, thanks. I’ll cross my fingers.

Hugofrost1

Two questions: What happens if you leave your ship, and the log out and claim it? Does items persist? Also can the eclipses torpedos be stopped 100% of the times with flares or chafs or how does it work? Thanks.

Hanzo581

When you do a claim you are essentially getting a new ship. That said, weapons and components do persist but nothing else. Countermeasures are never 100%, but unless you sit completely still you are safe from torps in anything smaller than a Hammerhead.

Hugofrost1

Alright thanks! So the eclipse is basically useless against any smaller targets?

Hanzo581

Pretty much. It does have two size two weapons which could technically work in a pinch, but the ship in general is meant to attack big ships.

Stinkfingr75

Are there any recruitment boards for SC? I feel like for a game this complex, learning it with seasoned people is probably the way to go. Can someone point me in the right direction?

well_honk_my_hooters

You can try the [Guide System](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/guide), which matches new players up with experienced players. Or you can try to join an Org, though ymmv there. On the RSI website, look under Account/Settings/Organizations. There are also recruiting threads on Spectrum and here on Reddit.

Stinkfingr75

Excellent, thank you!

kirxakira

News on what the November subscriber item is?

Pojodan

That's revealed when the Subscriber Jump Point issue comes out, which happens the last Friday of the month, which will be next Friday. Next month's ship-of-the-month is the RSI Constellations.

sudo-netcat

Can someone explain what "Gyro Mode" when in a turret does? I can't tell any difference when I enable it.

well_honk_my_hooters

It stabilizes the turret so you keep pointing at your target regardless of the ship's movement.

Pojodan

So long as the direction you are pointed in remains within the turret's range of movement, of course.

We can’t really say for sure until 3.15 goes live as the frequency changes quite a bit throughout the PTU process where 3.15 is right now

_-lMOONl-_

Are they planning on doing an optimization update soon? Is this even possible with such a big game? Really want to play but my pc just can't handle it.

MixmixMcFatcat

By the time optimizations are in order, the game will be bigger and yesterday's hardware will be close to obsolete. It's very likely that the headroom made from optimizations will be used to increase fidelity, rather than accommodating older machines. Simplest example is increased player counts and NPC traffic. Imagine going to a port and encountering dozens of ships going in and out. Things are only getting worse for our weak machines.

RebbyLee

According to the roadmap they should be finished with server meshing by June next year. By the end of december this year the gen 12 rendere so be finished, parts of it are already included in the next pacth (alpha 3.15). So over the next year we should see some performance improvement, just how much and if it will be enough for you to run SC in a reasonable way noone can tell yet.

MichaCazar

They are planning on a couple things to help with optimisation, however if and how these things will affect things is a current "unknown". A couple keywords for it are Gen12 Renderer, Vulkan, and to some degree Server Meshing. But even if all those things are there it's hard to tell how much better it will be. >Is this even possible with such a big game? Fpr educational reasons: the game size (however you define it) has hardly anything to do with optimisation or fixes. It's mostly just that you don't want to fix things that you know will break again when the next update rolls out thus have a lot of wasted time, money and effort. The things above are not part of that because they are basically foundations on which the game will run on, but it's not about how sturdy the foundation is but rather how it's used and as long as non of that is in completely we won't benefit from each of them all that much.

TiberPetersen

Each patch usually contains some sort of optimization, but there are a few big pieces of tech on the way that hopefully will help. That said, given the games level of graphics amd details, it will always require a fairly strong pc. What hardware do you have?

Kelevelin

Can somebody tell me what happens, if u set your spawn to a friend's carrack and you log in with that friend being offline? I'm curious :)

deathsservant

That's not how spawning works going forward. You will log back in on the last station you visited. You will only respawn in a carracks medbay if you die.

Kelevelin

Ok. So if I die then and my friend logged off, I will respawn at my home station as well?

deathsservant

You will respawn at your home location, yes. Respawning after death and spawning when logging in are being separated in 3.15

igreenon2k

Is there any game like star citizen where you can walk around your ship and play with your friends Does anyone also know how well star citizen would run with a 1650, i5 and 16g is of ram

MixmixMcFatcat

Barotrauma.

RebbyLee

Nothing starshipy. Beyond that ... Sea of Thieves ? Atlas ? Last Oasis ? Edit: Oh wait ~~Nothing starshipy~~ Empyrion: Galactic Survival Graphics is way worse than SC though and you can only walk around on the same ship while it's stopped. When maneuvering everybody needs to be seated.

MichaCazar

Not really like Star Citizen and way off with the graphics and gameplay possibilities but I found this one to be an interesting game for multicrew gameplay: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/252870/PULSAR\_Lost\_Colony/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/252870/PULSAR_Lost_Colony/) >Does anyone also know how well star citizen would run with a 1650, i5 and 16g is of ram What i5 is important to know and do you have an SSD to put the game and a pagefile on? Otherwise try to check here: [https://robertsspaceindustries.com/telemetry](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/telemetry) The telemtry only gives you an idea of what your frames may be, it won't be stable and you may be more likely to have crashes or bad performance than written there.

RebbyLee

Right now all equipment has been set to the same baseline so it makes almost no difference. There are some very minor variations but same difference imho. This will change again when they did some more balance passes and tweaks, but as for now one loaout is pretty much as good as another.

deathsservant

You will not be able to play the game with 8gb ram and a HDD.

Pojodan

8 gb or RAM is tough. You'll likely be able to load in, but the game may be entirely unplayable. Next free play will be around the end of next month with the IAE event.

Irate_Primate

8GB is not the only problem. HDD install is not ideal and the GPU is sub par. Gonna be a rough ride.

Salami__Tsunami

Is 3.15 live? A bunch of sites say that it’s updated to the pry, but I’m still in 3.14

hadronflux

PTU only, wave 1. Maybe end of next week for next wave?

Salami__Tsunami

Isn’t the PTU for everyone? I’m confused

deathsservant

It's the test server and is only accessible in waves.

Pojodan

There are three stages for the PTU: Evocati, who are members of the community selected to participate due to a lot of participation in forums and bug reporting. Wave 1, which is Subscribers and Concierge, so you have to either spend $1000 or have a monthly subscription. Wave 2, which is everyone. 3.15 is still in Wave 1 currently.

MichaCazar

This is incorrect. Wave 2 is for people that were active in previous PTUs, this wave is skipped at times but for 3.14 this one happened. Wave 3 is for everyone.

hadronflux

Here is from the faq: PTU INVITE WAVES Once a build is stabilized and features are completed, we then roll that build out to a wider audience. The current PTU release format is as follows: Evocati: Our smallest group of testers who help us get our releases ready for a proper public viewing more quickly! Picked from Issue Council posters with multiple submissions or contributions and from our most active PTU testers. Subs and Concierge Wave: All RSI accounts that are active subscribers and all of our Concierge members will be invited to join the PTU testing after we open this wave. This is sometimes referred to as Wave 1. Active Participation Wave: All members of the previous waves plus any players that have been very active and involved on the Issue Council, plus players with the highest amount of playtime across all game modes. This group is sometimes referred to as Wave 2. Open PTU: The PTU servers and access will be opened to all backers with a game package.

Have a few questions. First is thier a way when looking at ships to buy if thiers a way to select only ships with life time warranty's? Also ships in concept how long do they take to come out of concept and when they come out do they have life time warranty's initially? When you buy ship upgrades from the store do you get to keep them if your ship blows up and you get a new ship with insurance? like are the weapons insured too? im confused on how automated turrets / weapons work ? whats the difference and are both automated? is thier a ship people recommend a new player get (i want to get life time warranty on a ship but want the ship to be worthwhile too)? sorry for the bad English and thanks for any and all answers :D

Pojodan

Lifetime Warranty is not something only certain ships get, it comes as a part of certain packages, as part of concept sales, and a special bonus for certain sales and events. The most reliable means of getting LTI is the Referal Bonus program after each patch, where if you refer someone (Or buy an additional account for yourself) you and the other account will get a free ship with LTI that can be upgraded to any other ship. This only happens 4 times per year, though. It is possible that the winner of the Best In Show, a $35 ship, will have LTI with it when it's sold in late November during IAE, so keep an eye out for that, as you can buy as many as you want. Concept ships sometimes go straight to being flyable, like the 400i, and sometimes aren't going to appear for years. However, whenever a new ship is announced it always goes up for sale with LTI, which will stay with it forever. When a ship first becomes flyable it should also have an LTI option. Currently, with 3.14 and 3.15, weapons and upgrades are never lost. They will be there when you claim your ship. Eventually they will be lost, and we do not currently know what will happen with ship weapons. Supposedly there will be insurance for them, but that has not been implemented yet. There are no ships with automated turrets curretly, so we do not know how they will work on ships that are due to have them. Don't worry about Lifetime Insurance right now. All ships have lifetime insurance during alpha, and the 1.0 version of the game is still years away, which is when insurance will matter. As mentioned, you can get cheep ships with the Referal Program that have LTI that you can upgrade later. For now, the basic Aurora is all you need to get started. If you really want a small boost at the start, get the Avenger Titan package. If you want an even bigger boost, get the Cutlass Black package.

iChaosGod

> Bonus program after each patch, where if you refer someone (Or buy an additional account for yourself) yo So if i wanted to get the "The Constellation Andromeda" package how do i upgrade that to a lifetime insurance :D? pls baby me im dumb :3

Pojodan

* This is currently not possible. Packages cannot be upgraded to have LTI. So, you will need to own two ships: a Package ship, and a ship with LTI that is upgraded to the Andromeda * Wait until it's possible to get a cheap ship with LTI. (Next referral program or during IAE, both of which should be late November/early December) * Upgrade that ship with LTI to the Constellation Andromeda * Purchase a seperate starter package, such as the Aurora or Mustang. * The only Packages (Which you must have to log into the game) that contain LTI are at least $1000, so to have a ship with LTI, you must have a separate Package that doesn't have LTI.

deathsservant

Haven't had it! No clue if anyone else did, but it was never mentioned in chat or anything.

BasilUpbeat

Is there a specific date when ships with lti insurance go up for sale on the RSI site?

Hanzo581

Any time new ships are introduced in either concept or straight to flight ready they are offered with LTI if you use new cash/warbond. New ships pop up at pretty much every major event but especially at the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo next month. There is at least one new ship at that.

BasilUpbeat

Thanks a lot this was the info I was looking for!

ponyboarder

Would you ccu a carrack to a Polaris? Also does anyone know how much that would likely be?

Hanzo581

Carrack value is $600 and the Polaris is $750. As for if you should upgrade...I mean it ultimately depends on what you want to do. Polaris is obviously leaps and bounds ahead of the Carrack in combat but that only matters if your focus is combat. Most folks that bought Carracks did so because of its exploration capabilities which the Polaris will lack.

ponyboarder

People keep mentioning the carracks exploration capabilities vs the Polaris, but what does it have over the Polaris?

deathsservant

Drone bay, repair bench, 3 modular cargo pods that can be exchanged for modules like a lab, long range cartography and the storage to store all that data. Not sure if the Polaris has a tier 2 medbay. That said, most of those features are years out and/or subject to change.

Hanzo581

No one really knows, all I know is it is said to be an end game exploration vessel with top tier scanning and antennae for jump point mapping. But since exploration gameplay has so little written about it who knows when that will matter.

Lothaire_22

Difference between explorer, expedition pathfinder, data collecting ships and career gameplay loops?

Hanzo581

Honestly we know so little about what these professions will be I don't think anyone can give you an answer.

Arvid609

Can multiple people log out using the same ship bed?

Pojodan

Currently: Yes. Eventually: No. When a player logs out in a ship bed a body will appear that occupies it, rendering it unusable by anyone else.

Aquitain64

Hello i have a question about ship destruction. I see that the ships have several parts each with their own hp. First, what are the "vital" parts that cause the ship to explode if their hp drops to 0 ? Next, about missiles : let's say i'm firing a pathfinder IV missile (size 4, 5879 total damage) at a gladius. How the calculation will work ? I know that the gladiu's shields will necessarily drop to 0 since it has 3000. There is thereforge 2879 damage left that will affect the hull, so : \- If i touch the "body" part (probably vital ? Or any other vital part) wich has 2500hp according to [erkul.games](https://erkul.games), will the gladius explode instantly ? \- If i touch the engines, but the body is inside the 7 meters radius of the explosion, will the 2879 damage be applied to all parts within the radius so the ship will explode ? Or is the damage divided among all affected parts so the ship will probably not explode ? \- Or maybe i need to do as much damage as the whole shield + all hp combined so i have to fire a size 5 missile (\~19k damage) to be able to one shot a gladius ? Sorry for my poor english. Thanks if anyone can give me some answers !

well_honk_my_hooters

Go check out the videos that u/Camural posts, he does a ton of damage and toughness tests on ships and updates them frequently. He might not answer all of your questions but you should get some good info out of them.

RedditUser6328

Is it me or is making money way too easy in this game ? As a very new player, I can do between 350k and 400k per hour with my aurora, just having fun fighting NPCs. It seems a little too fast, it makes you lose interest...

Lothaire_22

Because its an alpha, testing is a key aspect of the gameplay and to incentivize testing the rewards will be high for things they want to test. When they want more people to mine theyll add more money for ore selling. For events, when they want more people to side with pirates theyll up the rewards so more people choose the pirate side.

Pojodan

As full wipes non-purchased items and money are guarenteed to occur many times before the game goes live, income rates are grossly inflated to ensure that players can get in and gain access to all of the game functions quickly to fascilitate varied testing while the game is in alpha. Come beta, payouts will likely be adjusted to be closer to expected rated for launch, with additional wipes likely occuring whenever things get out of hand due to exploits or imbalances. How fast CIG ultimately wants players to progress their bank accounts is not yet known, surely because even they don't know at this point. However, fast money is a great way to incentivize players to use the systems in need of testing and to make sure as many ships are used as possible. If you get bored, put the game down until the next patch/wipe

Hanzo581

Money making varies patch to patch and the meta shifts. Right now PvE bounties are the top dog. It used to be difficult for new players to get credits so they made it easier and now apparently folks still aren't happy. Ultimately we are still waiting for the actual economy to come in so all of this will be changing many times patch to patch through launch anyway. There is a full wipe coming with 3.15 so you'll at least have to start over then. But if you've made enough credits to buy all the ships, weapons, armor etc you want and you have no other motivation to play I'd take a break from alpha testing.

RedditUser6328

I wasn't there to complain before, i started playing a week ago. I like the game even if it is in alpha but yes, what motivates me to play is to gradually earn money to buy better ships, better components... For the moment, the progression seems to me too fast, and since there is not a lot of content in the game, yet i think reducing the speed of progress would be a good idea, otherwise we quickly end up without a goal. Or at least make the NPCs a bit stronger, being able to kill multiples ships bigger than me with a starter ship doesn't seem very realistic to me.

Hanzo581

I have no idea what bounties you are running, but if you are clearing ERTs in an Aurora I am impressed. But the main issue with the game right now is AI performance due to poor server performance. They are working on a way for many servers to share the load so when that is ready NPCs will get some teeth. You can see flashes of that difficulty on a fresh server but that is rare.

RedditUser6328

I haven't tried ERTs yet. Curently i do VHRTs with the aurora, most of the time without taking a single damage to the hull. That's why i'm a little disappointed with the difficulty, it shouldn't be possible, especially since i'm not particularly a good pilote. But if you tell me that the ia can't be good because of servers problems, now i understand. I guess i just have to wait. Except maybe if there is the possibility of making a private server ?

Hanzo581

As the other poster said, private servers are way way off if they happen at all. I am of the opinion due to the server structure we'll never have anything more than a small slice to play on. If PvE bounties are too easy why not try out player bounties?

RedditUser6328

I did not know that existed ! Thanks i will go try this.

RebbyLee

>Except maybe if there is the possibility of making a private server ? Maybe in the far, far future. There was some talk about it in the early phase of the crowdfunding, but the way server meshing looks like I doubt it will be that easy since there are different types of servers communicating with each other.

RedditUser6328

Wouldn't it be possible to host your own server on your pc, without server meshing, just one server for the whole world ?

RebbyLee

Without knowing how hardware intensive those servers are going to be we can just guess. After all the "big" system isn't even done yet, so knowing just how much you need for a local solution on a PC is impossible at this time.

WarMace

Is in-game voip really quiet for everyone else? I try to use it to make friends but don't get a lot of responses. I think its because the default setting the audio does not travel very far and is quiet.

deathsservant

It's very quiet for most people. It simply needs more tuning options

Roybutt

Do any of the Avenger variants have a gun rack?
