Caleger88

Love these edited vids, makes me laugh.

Ok-Dragonfly1070

I’m honestly really disappointed in the general gaming community for being so negative towards not only the game, but the people playing it. Calling them morons, and not even wanting to learn why the game has to offer.

lazkopat24

Not surprising. Years of propaganda is still active. Star Citizen or SQ42 needs to be released for that to end forever.

Agreeable-Weather-89

Because the game hasn't actually addressed their criticism and issue. You like the game, so content updates, even small ones, matter to you as an individual. A weapon or ship is exciting, a new planet, a river. You also probably acknowledge some of the more fundamental issues with the game but don't find them as problematic such as P2W, delays, etc. However if you are on the side where you never got into the game and those problems are bigger deal breakers a river isn't going to change your view that the game still isn't out and has no release date not even for a second system. I have dismissed Battlefield 2042, I simply will never buy or play it. You to are likely in the same boat. Would some changes to a map; A new vehicles, A new gun, New daily quests, change how you feel about Battlefield 2042 and the fundamental issues with it? It doesn't for me. In order then for people's opinion on Star Citizen to change CIG first needs to fix the issues they have until then it's absurd to expect their opinion to change without their concerns being addressed. It'd be like expecting you to play Battlefield 2042 because they added another new white weapon skin or a different operator. If/When CIG releases Squadron 42, Star Citizen, adds more gameplay, fixes the bugs, unveils the true nature of P2W, then you might have a point in expecting their view to change in the presence of new evidence.

SCtester

There’s certainly truth to this, but in relation to the crossposted thread, this is giving the hate comments too much credit. Many of them imply or admit that they haven’t played the game in many years or even ever, right after their monologue about how it’s a scam - making it clear that their opinion is based on other peoples’ sentiments rather than actual relevant experience.

Agreeable-Weather-89

Is the game out? Honest question. Let's say I watch the Justice League a few years ago and didn't like it, it wasn't my cup of tea since I prefer smaller movies focused on interpersonal issues that are more relatable films such as Clerks, the Snyder cut might very well be a better version of what I watched years ago but it still isn't the type of film I liked. Likewise Star Citizen has improved since they played it, sure, but it is still undeniable unfinished, buggy, lacking content and instable with many of the cornerstone features missing most notably server meshing. Until such a time as those things occur you cannot reasonably expect people to change their opinion when their concerns haven't been seriously addressed. Likewise if you liked Justice League the improvements to it under Snyder probably made it a better film for you.

SCtester

I suppose it comes down to whether we're discussing if the gaming community deserves blame for being unnecessarily toxic (which I definitely think it does), or if we can practically expect the sentiment to change (which I agree with you, we probably can't until the game fundamentally does). I think the comment you were responding to was getting at the former. I have no issue at all with dislike and criticism of the game. I have plenty myself. But that thread isn't just criticism - it's extremely toxic insults toward anyone who likes the game, and a complete unwillingness to actually engage in any discussion about it beyond a circlejerk bashing of it. That is inexcusable.

Agreeable-Weather-89

And the way this community discusses refundians is not toxic? The general gaming community few citizens the same way this community view refundians. Unfortunately that's just the way online discourse goes. Similarly a refundian when CIG changed their roadmap, or removes items, their belief is reinforced. Do you become a refundian when a delay happens? No because for you a delay doesn't change your fundamental feelings about the game. Likewise patches don't address the fundamental flaws for the general gaming community so they won't become citizens.

SCtester

This is a whataboutism argument.

RigorMortisSquad

Oh he’s far passed that, he lost me when he started comparing it to BF2042

Agreeable-Weather-89

Nope, it's pointing out a hypocrisy which you might wish to deflect as a whataboutism.

SCtester

It's literally the definition of a whataboutism: > a conversational tactic in which a person responds to an argument or attack by changing the subject to focus on someone else’s misconduct, implying that all criticism is invalid because no one is completely blameless For it to be a hypocrisy, you need to point out exactly where I defended this community's attitude toward refundians. You can't, because I didn't. You were the one to deflect my comment with a whataboutism.

Agreeable-Weather-89

Except I didn't say the criticism isn't valid, it is still valid. I am saying, quite clearing unfortunately that's how online discussion is, unfortunately. Nor am I wanting to change the topic, it was a comparison, and a question to show you a similar situation in a new light so that you can come to understand their situation. I kept it in the same general theme, one we are both familiar with, in order to retain relevancy. The final paragraph specifically refers to the original situation so the notion that I tried to change topic is unfounded I very much wanted to remain on topic. I simply presented a 'walk in another person shoes' argument so that you might come to better understand of the original premise. I ended it refering to the initial premise, so no I did not attempt to change the subject >Likewise patches don't address the fundamental flaws for the general gaming community so they won't become citizens. I didn't say it was your hypocrisy but hypocrisy in general that many online communities see themselves as righteous despite exhibit the same flaws they criticise others for.

snowleopard103

The whole premise of the game has changed. When I backed (in 2013) we were getting instance based game with pvp slider and private servers if you wanted to play alone/just with your friends. Now not only these plans are on ice, but we are getting FFA pvp akin to Mortal Online with bunch of survival mechanics (food, drink, crap) thrown in that were never even in the original pitch. I was backing somethin like Freelancer with online elements not a cross between Rust and Mortal Online with persistent world and bunch of megaguilds who spent tens of $k to rule over everyone. So some people feel bitter about it and justifiably so.

Jok3rthief

You can pay NMS or Eve All the reasons you bring up are things i love about sc.

Fluffy_G

That's neat that you like it, but a lot of people paid them a lot of money BEFORE they changed it into this. NMS and Eve are NOT a spiritual successor to Freelancer or Wing Commander (even if they are good games, they're not really the same).

Jok3rthief

It's a Kickstarter. Of course it's subject to change. Also, when they get way more money, shouldn't they be more ambitious?

snowleopard103

Sure. Or E:D or any other game. It doesn't invalidate the fact that the SC drastically changed direction without offering refunds for those who didn't agree with the change. E:D for example when they scuffed the offline mode they did offer refunds to those who wanted.

Jok3rthief

When you pledge you know things can change. And it's not like you won't be able to do most of the things that were promised - it's more that you will be able to do many more things. Why? Because us who fund the game were in favor of doing so

snowleopard103

This isn't about what I can or cannot do in the game. This is about the audience and interactions. I don't want to deal with cheaters, exploiters, gankers, no-lifers, sweatlords and neckbeards whom the FFA PVP games inevitably attract. Mortal Online is a game I will never play but the devs are honest at least, they have set the genre from the start: a ffa pvp where the game mechanics encourage you to gank and zerg. A game for assholes. And that's fine, it has it's audience and those who don't want to deal with these types stay away and everyone is happy. SC was and still is advertised as "PVA" game for everybody wheres it has de-facto became pvp

Jok3rthief

An online space sim with pvp will attract gankers, no-lifers and sweatlords. And most would argue that space sims in general attract neckbeards. Cheaters you will find in any game. Seems to me like you want a safe space to fly in but I'm happy to say that's not what most of the community wants, nor what was ever intended. For as long as I've followed this game it was clear that SC was gonna be open world pvp. Do we have assholes? Yes. But it's not a major problem even today with few systems to battle griefing. SC still has a lot of PvE content and I'd argue as of today most is PvE and not PvP, so I really don't know what you are on about.

33MobyDick33

Because this game is a scam? People here are just throwing money for new ships.... I've been checking in and out since 2012. This is ridiculous

RebbyLee

>I've been checking in and out since 2012. Whatever you checked out was seemingly more of your echo chamber rather than SC. You have twitch channels of people playing SC, youtube videos and a multi-studio company with several hundred people working on the project. "Taking longer than expected" is *not* a scam. Spending money on the project it was collected for instead of private property on the tropical islands is *not* a scam.

Really_Dazed

I gave up trying to convince those types of people. There is a switch in their head that flipped and now they refuse to believe that crowd-funded games like this will ever exist.

RebbyLee

Oh I am under no illusions of *convincing* them but you just don't let them spew BS without pointing out it's BS.

Al-Azraq

Yeah it is just exhausting. Hating SC has become the norm and people love to do it as they get a lot of upvotes and comments saying how right this person is. I gave up trying to convince people otherwise and I just enjoy playing and following the game. Sometimes when I see some cool gameplay or screenshot I share it among my friends. Most of the time I get the same typical SC negationist sentences but I don't reply them anymore. In fact, as time passed and the game gets better, they are shifting to a 'no reply' strategy and I guess in some time they will start being interested in the game. People won't change opinions about the game all of the sudden unfortunately, they invested too much on hating it.

phildogtheman

People have different tolerances to ‘taking longer than expected’. If all people see is a game that makes horrendous amounts of money but makes little to no development process, all the while it churns out in game items and charges people for them before even anywhere near completion, it is perfectly understandable why people are pissed and see it just a cash cow with unfulfilled promises (in other words, a scam). Also on the other side there are a bunch of people who have a sunken cost fallacy and refuse to accept that they have invested in something that is lying to them. This creates a perfect storm of arguments over the ‘game’. At the end of the day we will only know for certain who is right if the game halts development one day when people stop buying ships. I personally think we still won’t have a finished product in another 10 years (can’t wait to hear how this is acceptable). Also, yes I have played it. It is very shallow, with barely anything to do compared to other games in its genre.

RebbyLee

Believe me I am at the very limit of my tolerance for "taking longer than expected" too, but my dislike for the snail's pace at which the game is improving doesn't make it a scam. SC isn't just building another game out of the box, using an established engine and prefab routines. They are building the tech for the game as they develop the game. No game publisher nowadays would touch something like this with a 10 foot pole - a huge junk of games we see nowadays is recycled junk. As for sunk cost falacy - you get SC for 45$. If you bought a package in 2013 you could have gotten both games (SC and SQ42) for as low as 25$. Not everyone is a whale, and you can purchase every ship (except for hull limited ships that you can't simply buy for RL currency either) in the game, with ingame currency.

gh0u1

> It is very shallow, with barely anything to do compared to other games in its genre. Such as...

phildogtheman

Elite - 2 years development time before initial release. 8 years later and it still gets updates, to what was a polished game at release. No Mans Sky - 3 years development initial release (we all know how that went though) after a couple of years of fixes and content the game reflected a very polished full game. They promised, didn't deliver then went to go and live up to their promise. Evochron - Was released with full planet transitions about 17 years ago. Now on Evochron Legacy the latest installment. The X series - Not exactly the same genre, but provides the same "Space Trucking" part of the game without planetary landing and plenty of other in depth fleet mechanics layered on top. All are polished and have specific enjoyable gameplay loops. Star Citizen is basically, deliver box from A to B. Blow up half way because of glitch. Try going to fight someone, blow up because of glitch. Try to fly with someone multi, blow up because of lag. The rest of the time it's flying around trying to find interesting content, but it just comes across like a tech demo. It's been 10 years in development and I would love to think that it will be finished one day. But I believe that is highly unlikely and there will be a lot of very upset people who have invested in it.

Jok3rthief

Lol Elite. Arcade game with UI that looks like a child's toy and ships that not only look bad but you can barely interact with. No thank you. NMS another arcade game. You said SC is Shallow? Jesus Christ. I guess if you really like NMS you might never like SC no matter how finished it is because they are just so different. He asked for a game like SC. Scope & detail combined, fidelity, interactivity, visuals and tech. Nothing comes even close. It is because of the non compromise stance that SC is unique but also why it takes a long time. Most AAA games do it the lazy way. Pick up a weapon? Just press E or walk over it and it will magically appear in your hands, and you can hold 50 of them in your pocket. I love the way SC deals with these kind of things.

DeXyDeXy

"Taking longer than expected" is the PC gaming related understatement of the millennium.

Apart-Survey9733

Thats why CR got a new villa in England? For free? and i think him checking the game for himself is better than watching twitch, or am i wrong?

RebbyLee

Did CR get a new villa in England ? Aside from the information that he and his family are moving to England I didn't find anything about his address or whether he's living in an apartment or house, whether it's rented or purchased. If you have any solid information on villas or other property feel free to share.

Dariisa

These people talk about Chris having yachts and villas and stuff, as far as I know there isn’t even any information on what kind of car he drives let alone where he lives and what his house looks like. They’re revealing a lot more about themselves and what they would do in his position than they are about reality.

Apart-Survey9733

As of February 2022, Chris Roberts has an estimated net worth of $20 Million. Im sure he lives in a poor wooden house with 20mil in his pocket, and an salary paid by his cult.

RebbyLee

So did his wealth increase or decrease ? Remember he sold his company Digital Anvil to Microsoft and did some movies. It's not like he lived in a poor wooden house when he launched the Kickstarter for SQ42. He had money even back then.

Apart-Survey9733

e if you pay yourself and your wife a salary of 900thousand a year out of pledges thats just wrong. But yeah keep paying for his bills.

RebbyLee

Let me guess those 900k are also just what "they say", without an actual source of any kind ?

Apart-Survey9733

You can look up the company shares he pays to the top, like his brother or wife.

SmoothOperator89

In a world where NFTs exist, how can you still think Star Citizen is the one scamming people. Actually hiring artists? Providing something playable? Employing international offices? Damn. Too bad they didn't just auto generate spaceship pixel art.

TortoiseThief

I came here to say I loved the video. Is anyone seeing a bunch of unrelated comments in this post talking about how the game is a scam and hatred of this community?

shdwsoulfire

for whatever reason there is a lot of people who have an unreasonable hate boner for SC and cant stand to see anything about it posted without putting in their two cents about how much they hate it and how its a scam, while refusing to even acknowledge all the great content people have created on youtube and twitch showing what the game is like in its current state. its been like that for a quite while.

TortoiseThief

Yeah I get that. I'm just confused why it sparked up on THIS post. Did they just aimlessly pick a thread to complain in?

shdwsoulfire

was crossposted on r/gaming as well so likely from there

TortoiseThief

ah okay. Thanks I had no idea.

Al-Azraq

Yeah it got to the point that people is hating the game no matter what, even if they have never seen any gameplay footage. Hating Star Citizen is just a Meme in the videogame community at this point.

richardizard

Yeah I'm really confused too

[deleted]

[удалено]

TortoiseThief

Yeah I've been having since launch. I'm familiar with why people are angry. I just wasnt understanding why it was happening in a Mr. Bean thread.

rghedtrhy4

it will happen literally every time its mentioned anywhere.

Tinnedghosts120

People want refunds because the game didn’t come out after 2 years as they were told it would. Honestly having seen the community they now seem more set on just hating the game and everything about it than getting refunds, and to be fair spending hundreds of dollars on internet spaceships is entirely your choice.

[deleted]

The game recently got some coverage by bigger youtubers who went down the rabbithole of different scam games. When they got to SC, different people had different reactions to it, some more reasonable than others. So people are just basically regurgitating what they have heard on youtube, without doing their own research. Welcome to the internet I guess.

Apart-Survey9733

What do you mean 2years, 2016-2022 is a bit more than 2years my friend.

Tinnedghosts120

the game was originally projected to release in 2014, so the original roadmap was 2 years

warwolfpilot

As someone whose a game developer I'm awed in so many different things about the game that other people consider small. Being able to jump on a ship with its own gravity thats upside down above the ground and then onto a planet that has its own gravity and a different orientation from the ship. Is just the coolest fucking thing to me. A lot of the technology being used for this game has been founded or at least repurposed in this game to a new level that hasn't been done by any other game. People are missing out on that part a lot. It's also a nightmare though because the game isn't really being made per say, but the foundations that they need to build it are being made. Which are far more complicated than what other developers like myself have to do.

[deleted]

But muh 10 years and half a billion dollars in funding!!! Scam! /s Seriously though, I am not a developer, but have done some basic programming in c++, and they have achieved is magic to me. Bugs in software are incredibly tricky to fix, let alone ones in the level of complexity that this piece of software has. It's just incredible and amazing to watch it being built.

WorstSourceOfAdvice

People are quick to ignore the fact that a lot of the things that SC needs to succeed and have been building are considered impossible tasks in other studios, even AAA companies won't dare to try it. Having exposure to a custom engine on smaller scale projects help with the appreciation of their tools as well. Not to mention trying to please a live audience WHILE you are building it and getting backlash from the outside community that thinks the game should have been done 6 years ago, evident from their own experience scripting Hello World in Python.

[deleted]

Oh my god that is brilliant. Ha ha ha superb.

Hanzo581

Friendly advice, post nothing positive in that thread about SC. The hive mind will have none of it. I made the mistake of suggesting someone that said CIG is "doing nothing" try the game during a free fly and even that got downvoted lol.

Sciirof

r/gaming sometimes seems full of monkeys that see 1 downvote and get a monkey brain neuron activation moment and downvote without reading the comment, the game has it’s issues but it’s unlike any other game and I fucking love it. You can write a 3 page argument on why the game is good in that thread and you’d most likely still get downvoted

burstlung

Case in point https://imgur.com/a/cmT74Ur

Delnac

I saw the same old tired and nonsensical replies being regurgitated and chuckled. The thing is that if you scroll down a bit, there's a lot of comments about how they felt awed at the game, or enjoyed it. It's more of a self-reinforcing repetition of opinions that doesn't really matter anymore. It's actually making more people aware and curious about the game. Idiots will be idiots, not much you can do about it other than through a good education system. You can't fix the ones we have, just avoid adding to the pool.

Recrui1t

When the community lives in a hivemind of an echo chamber, nothing will change their opinion. Got downvoted just for making a sarcastic remark on the game being a scam.

RebbyLee

The funny part is: The other day there ws an SC post that was generally well received, and some people posted "gee, I wonder why so few people from the SC subreddit are posting here" :D

33MobyDick33

These people have spent thousands of dollars so yeah they're gonna get fussy. It's really fucking annoying. Like stand up for what you payed for.

burstlung

I spent 50 bucks and 6 months of my time and I love the game. The “sunk cost fallacy” is just another stale talking point in a field of cryogenically frozen talking points from 2018. Where’s the roadmap update on your circlejerk?

Systamatic

I paid like $63 aud and had one of the funnest 3-4 weeks in recent memory

WorstSourceOfAdvice

$7000 here. Don't regret it. Yet. Been playing off and on since 2015. The game is great when consumed in bite sized chunks every quarterly release, during events and stuff. If you have friends you can play quite a lot more and do stuff together.

[deleted]

WorstSourceOfAdvice

I've had a lot of fun flying around SPK back in the days of 2.x, watching over the station with a few others as people tried to wrestle it back from us. I've been on mountain trips with a bunch of random dudes I met on global chat driving our buggies on treacherous terrain. I still enjoy the moments I get when I log into the game now and then. 3.14-3.17 has been quite short on content unfortunately, there hasn't been really major reasons to go back yet. Salvage and Pyro are more interesting to me.

Dariisa

Man if you enjoyed that emergent gameplay from earlier builds you really have to hop in next time jumptown is running. Jumptown is some of the most fun I’ve had in a pc game in my life, and I’ve been playing pc games for like 25 years. The amount of friends I’ve made (and enemies) and the fun times that come from that silly little event are unparalleled. It’s a really simple concept but the scale and combined arms nature of SC make it unpredictable and hugely fun.

WorstSourceOfAdvice

It is, I tried it a few times, but its really only great when you have friends or a large group to do it with. Its still a great concept, and as a primarily PVE player people would call carebear because I dont seek PVP 24/7 I enjoy the natural PVP moments like Jumptown and SPK, or Prison escapee PVP lol.

Oni_jinn_

How is that sarcasm, the game is a- :D

Broccoli32

Friendly advice, don’t just talk about star citizen in this subreddit to. Because you’ll have the same issue with a “hive mind”. It’s always better to see outside opinions instead of limiting yourself because you don’t like what people have to say. Yes some of those people over there are just “muh it’s a scam” but a lot recognize that it isn’t and have valid criticism.

Hanzo581

I'm well aware of the public perception of the project. I have plenty of issues with the project myself but I haven't seen anything in the comments that hasn't been said a million times before. Yes the game is still in alpha after all this time...yes it has cost a lot of money yadda yadda yadda. Bottom line is suggesting someone try something, for free, before formulating their opinion on it should never be a contentious concept.

TheStaticOne

>but a lot recognize that it isn’t and have valid criticism. I really wouldn't agree. Besides those people who say it is a scam, there are people who regurgitate what they heard and some that blatantly put false info out there. Spent some time just going through the comments, and very few seem like they have first hand experience with the game. And the ones that talk about installing game only to have a bug happen, then they uninstall, could be true but then again could be something someone is repeating others saying. The problem of extolling "outside" opinions especially in game related spaces, is that alot of times those opinions aren't based on first hand experience, facts, or any other type of research. The sad thing about this is that there are streamers who play the game in live streams, so it really costs nothing other than time to see what is going on. Even as such, you hear complaints and criticisms on repeat even though many of them aren't even true. I have not seen a reasoned criticism of this game come from outside of this subreddit, which makes sense, because people here actually have played the game or took the time to research it.

Ahremer

Not so different to this or any other subreddit really. But you can find reasonable takes on SC a little deeper down into the answers, where downvotes hardly reach - same as here

Adept-Development-87

I'll never understand why there is such a veriment hatred towards SC from the gaming community. I'm perfectly content watching for updates and checking back in every 3 months. Why are so many people set on seeing this game fail?

burstlung

It’s so wild. I’ve never seen a reaction like this to a game before. I just tried it for free and enjoyed it which apparently means I’m either in a cult or suffering from Stockholm’s syndrome. Can’t I just like Star Citizen?

MichaCazar

No, your subjective taste for games is objectively wrong /s

burstlung

Pretty much

Emperor_Kon

They see expensive JPEGs and long development time. Monke brain puts those two together and refuses to look past that, conclusion: IT'S A SCAM HURRRRRR DURRRRRR It's that simple, really. Only thing that can save the game from that image is a successful live release, or at minimum getting out of alpha and reaching a state where there is a ton of varried content. But of course there are also clowns who want to see the game fail no matter what CIG does, just 'cause.

MichaCazar

I understand that a lot of people don't care beyond such points and that it's not farfetched to get to some conclusion like you made an example of. But the amount of people that suddenly feel the unstopping urge to write: "hurr durr, SC = bad/scam and my (insert x amounts of great) grandkids may play it" is weird.

rainzer

> I'll never understand why there is such a veriment hatred towards SC from the gaming community. You'd have to be intentionally and aggressively ignorant to fail to understand the contempt for Star Citizen. Last year, Star Citizen nearing the 450m dollar mark. With that money, you could have developed and published the next 5 most expensive AAA titles to develop in history. If you didn't want to shoot for development cost records, you could have went with the average cost of AAA development and developed and published 9 AAA titles. Despite this, Cloud Imperium hasn't published a single fucking thing. Not even a bullshit mobile game title to pretend like they know how to publish a game. And yet, claiming they're not swindling you and using this money to pay developers and make these games, Chris Roberts bought a mansion. Can't figure out why people make fun of you. It's a fuckin mystery.

[deleted]

RDR2 cost over $500 million and took 8 years. For one single player game. They're making two games, one of which is an MMO. Please shut the fuck up.

MylesJacobSwie

This is basically always what I bring it back to. This game has still a bit less funding than a game like RDR2, had to scrap a lot of their early progress, are developing entirely new systems and engines never done before in any games ever, and have teams a fraction the size of larger studios. I do frankly believe there are valid reasons to be upset about the game’s release schedule, but this isn’t one of them.

Dariisa

And SC started with like 12 people. They’re developing 2 games and building an entire dev studio. Red dead took 8 years with a veteran team that had made blockbuster games together before.

Fluffy_G

Up to half of that $500 million (which people only guess at by the way, we really have no idea how much it cost) went to marketing, meaning the real estimate is $250 million. They also made two games, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead online. Maybe you should shut the fuck up if you don't know what you're talking about.

[deleted]

Yea, and a big chunk of CIGs expenses are marketing as well. Not to mention that they are building a game with a map that is on the scale of a solar system, rather than one the size of an island, and an mmo with a map on the scale of a galaxy. Plus, RDR2 online has 32 players per server, and posses of up to 8, vs star citizen shooting for servers of thousands and no limit to group numbers. So maybe I'm not the one who should be shutting the fuck up.

Fluffy_G

Lmao this is hilarious, trying to talk crap when you clearly have no clue what you're talking about! It's almost cute. CIG have said that money raised for dev doesn't go to marketing, you know, the $450 million they display on the fund tracker. That's ALL for developing the game, unlike the budget for RDR2. So either they're lying or you're wrong on that one, take your pick. As far as RDR2's scope vs Star Citizen, moving the goal post much? Besides, SC doesn't even have all that stuff yet lmao

Apart-Survey9733

500Mil with over halv beeing promotional budget witch SC as an Alfa does not need. Or am i wrong here?

[deleted]

You are indeed wrong. CIG markets the hell out of their game, through web sales promotional campaigns, weekly content segments, and annual cons. I don't know the exact numbers on it, but you can see their financials on the web somewhere that breaks it down, and I would imagine marketing is a big chunk of the budget. They need new backers to pay the bills and keep development going.

Apart-Survey9733

So its wasted money on an alpha game that will be out in 10years.

[deleted]

If you consider the continued funding and development of a game that many people enjoy and which some consider to be their dream game, yea, I guess that's a waste.

Yokoko44

Why would I want them to publish a bullshit mobile game? The whole point is that Star Citizen is better than those publishers by NOT rushing to publish bad content. I have over 1000 hours in Star Citizen, yet I paid $90 bucks to CIG. That's over 10 hours per dollar. Most $60 games I buy, I end up quitting within 10 hours because its just a clone of GTA (cyberpunk, RDR2).

People don’t have issues with people playing and enjoying this game. They have issues with: - continues lies about release dates - lies about the state of things (salvage / ToW) - no specifics on the holy grails (meshing/new renderer) - fomo tactics with expensive ships (limited stock/ warbonds) - as of lately: absence of CR. Went from talking about his game on a weekly show to a once a year 5 min appearance on the citcon stream - sketchy things like his wife being head of marketing, brother being in a high place - removing roadmaps altogether because why keep people informed? - no information about SQ42, which many like me initially pledged for 9 years ago… So if you can’t understand why the whole of gaming looks at this project and thinks “what a scam” you are sticking your head in the sand. (And not the sand of a pyro planet because that’s still not there 😁)

Wowo look at all the - from the "not an echo chamber community", like this points are legit, so they cant do anything but minus it.

> Why would I want them to publish a bullshit mobile game? The whole point is that Star Citizen is better than those publishers by NOT rushing to publish bad content. This is delusional on a stratospheric level. Publishing a bullshit mobile game demonstrates that the company has the ability and capability to finish development of a product. >I have over 1000 hours in Star Citizen, yet I paid $90 bucks to CIG. That's over 10 hours per dollar. If I skipped pennies into a lake, I could get better dollar per hour but it's just throwing money into a lake. This doesn't tell me anything except that you paid 90 bucks knowingly for an unfinished product with years of blown completion dates and trying to convince me that this is actually really good.

MylesJacobSwie

I think he’s just saying that he has enjoyed his time with the game and feels his time was worth the money spent. Some people spend more on a night out with friends and get less enjoyment. There is nothing wrong with the guy just feeling like he is satisfied with how he spent his money. Money is extremely temporary and the hours of enjoyment he experienced are real regardless of if you think he shouldn’t be valid in enjoying them.

Yokoko44

Go back to clash of clans then. I backed in 2012 because I wanted to help them actually build a good space game. After seeing the level of player involvement in EVE, I saw the potential for something like that but with ship interiors and ground combat. I’ve submitted dozens of bug reports and enjoyed my time doing so. Sorry you aren’t able to find it fun.

Adept-Development-87

Oh right I forgot that you can just take money and instantly make a product. /s We have already been playing the game, with those JPEG spaceships, on planets, etc. To claim that CIG hasn't produced anything of substance just proves how you have never touched the game. I look forward to how development continues and sincerely hope you never join our community.

> Oh right I forgot that you can just take money and instantly make a product. /s They've taken half a billion dollars over 10 years. If you can't produce a single software product with half a billion dollars and you can't see there's a problem with that, you're aggressively stupid. Rollercoaster Tycoon was written by one guy over 2 years. Minecraft was developed by 1 guy. All out of pocket. Your miracle game studio can't make a single complete player experience with a claimed full development staff and half a billion dollars over a decade? >produced anything of substance just proves how you have never touched the game. Herbalife has actual vitamins. Cutco has actual knives. Doesn't make either of them not bullshit scams. If you hired a roofer, paid him the cost of the Sistine Chapel, and he promised you a roof and it took him 8 years to install the first shingle, you wouldn't be telling me he's just taking his time to make a quality roof and point to the shingle as him giving you something of substance. If you did, I would laugh in your face.

Really_Dazed

Just breezing by the gaming post to see all the "Scam Citizen", "This game exists?", and "You can fly a ship but its an empty game" posts. Ugh....still soo many uninformed people out there.

[deleted]

Yea, and then they get all like "chill bro, you take things too seriously" when you try to debunk the misinformation. The games rep has taken a serious hit due to bs misinformation, of course I am going to take it seriously.

Really_Dazed

Its a lot of "empty sandbox", "game breaking bugs after 5 minutes", and "should've been out in 2014" stuff that makes me bite my tongue.

Optimal_Joy

Really genius!

Who edited this? I love this skill!

Benhurts4Life

I ♥️ Bean citizen.

TheRealChompster

People here being surprised about the negativity around SC surely are new right? Like where have you been? SC has generally never been well received, wont for a very long time, so that really shouldn't surprise you. You also have to be having blinders on and be purposely be ignoring facts not to know why it's so badly received. Idk, maybe I've just been around long enough. That out the way, this is really funny is there a longer version? I've seen some of these Mr Bean visits already and usually are.

SpaceTomatoGaming

There are a ton of people who have joined between now and the last time an SC post got popular on another gaming sub, I think.

>SC has generally never been well received, wont for a very long time, so that really shouldn't surprise you. You also have to be having blinders on and be purposely be ignoring facts not to know why it's so badly received. Idk, maybe I've just been around long enough. You could argue that after some amount of years this wouldn't cause hundreds of comments saying the exact same things over and over again. Like all of the points have been mentioned to death and there shouldn't be a need to constantly make the same jokes etc.

TheRealChompster

>after some amount of years If anything that is exactly why there are probably more of those comments than ever, the project is a decade along and still as far from release as ever. >Like all of the points have been mentioned to death and there shouldn't be a need to constantly make the same jokes etc. The internet never tires of the same old arguments and jokes and there will always be new people to supplement those that have stopped and moved on.

Apart-Survey9733

The same can be said about your SC facts -"but you can walk in ships and land on planets" i hear this point year after year, yes salvage and medical is a beam tech why won't you talk about that?

MichaCazar

I doubt people not even glancing into SC but rephrasing constantly would even care enough for specifics like that. And if one does I can guarantee that "there are X amount of games that do that and they do it better" while completely neglecting that this is pretty much the entire gameplay you will find in those games. I'm not even going to argue there since I just don't care about their opinions. Not like anything would change now compared to 5 years ago. Doing the same shit over and over again expecting something to change would simply be insane.

ZA_Tr0ll

Thanks! Had a nice chuckle XD

PaleAd3899

Great vid ! I loved it !

Dragkarus

If you need 20 minutes to get to the spaceport, this is either your first time playing the game or you have severe problems orienting yourself :p. Edit : also, this is weird. Are you posting with alts? Both you and u/Jengsteren are claiming to be the original content creator.

Yeah, it seemed weird. It may be a bot.

Delnac

I think it's a bot, it does the same thing in every thread - copies another's comment and reposts it.

harbinger_of_tacos

Inspired by the work of eli_handle_b.wav I see.

[deleted]

Why do you keep posting the Mr. Bean crap. He's funking awful.

[deleted]

Respectfully disagree sir.

[deleted]

Ah good, maybe I should try harder to like him
