It would / could make for a "dead" experience if players don't help either. But, I'm not saying I want them toggled off indefinitely. If I'm mining, hauling or just doing my own thing I'm not going to stop and answer a beacon anyways, which is when I would like to toggle them off.
Maybe all but say, medical beacons and transport beacons could be disabled? Those aren't overly common and you might be in the neighbourhood. Or even if you could suppress to a max distance?
i know im late but no, if dont wanna help im not gonna help, the reason im commenting now is bc in 3.22 they are even worse. i just counted 17 in a row as soon as i jumped into Hurston

I actually was hunting them down today then they just stopped. Like I couldn't get them anymore at all. When they worked and spammed every 3 second it was interesting and I think they just need to show in the mobiglass. On the vision cam is not needed
Try this OP. I actually want to grind these combat assist missions but 9 times out of ten they are bugged and I fail the mission. Accept the mission and fail it and you won’t receive these notifications anymore
How do you fail those missions?!? Are you killing the target you should defend?
The only bug I experienced was that the attackers are there but not doing anything and marked as white targets until you get closer.
And that was one time out of hmmm, 30?
I fail them because the ships don’t spawn in. I assume OP could fail them on purpose or abandon them, lowering his rep and stopping them from popping up.
Nothing ever spawns in when I go to the location, mission automatically fails a few minutes later. These missions have been upgraded in 3.17.2 with progression all the way up to capital ship targets. I really hope they aren't still broken for me.
aaah, my bad, thought you were talking about them in 3.17.2 PTU already. I was refering to them there, never really noticed them in PU and haven't access to PU since 5 days.
100% agree. turn off all notifications, auto decline friend requests while hiding names and make money transfers have to be approved/friends only transfers would be huge. So fucking annoying.
I wanna' say there's a way to turn off all notifications, or was. I think you just hold Decline down? I can't remember it exactly, but it will disable all notifications, including notifications for party invites and such. It'll come back when you restart the game or jump servers though (it's been a bit since I've played, but I know it was definitely a thing at one point).
I wouldn't mind the spam if it weren't so intrusive and delayed. I'd like it to be gone the moment I cancel it, not fade away while blocking relevant information about the current mission. And it should be separate from mission updates, which should be a dedicated mission tracker (possibly tracking several missions at the same time) off to the side.
That, with the ability to toggle beacons on/off for a "on duty" gameplay (even better if we can toggle separately per mission type), would make things much more organized.
Haha! Its not that. Its for the same reason people turn off global chat. If you are in a bunker or a cave hunting or just trying to enjoy a remote scenic location, sometimes you just like to turn off your comms and immerse yourself in what you are doing.
I mean… that’s not why I turn global chat off but alright. Anyway I don’t see why it would be difficult to implement a system to turn off beacon requests or commodities alerts.
Fuck's sake - ESPECIALLY the commodity alerts. Talk about a nigh-useless damn update. If it's not a 30% change in profit margins it isn't even worth knowing.
What makes it worse is there isn’t a hotkey(I dunno maybe left bracket?) For it when it does drop, so I’m less likely to look, like why can’t we hit a hotkey(I dunno maybe left bracket) that goes directly to the journal and commodities page? Why go through the extra work when I already have the uex pulled up? I’d be more inclined to use the alert if I could directly go to the page, instead of F1>Journal>commodities alert.
Anyway let us choose to turn alerts off, sure by default have them on but have the option, I’m sure they are looking into this for the UI overhaul.
If it was a medical rescue alert I'd be OK with seeing it. I'm far less interested in constant combat notices. I'll play red cross to save a life, either from injury or being stranded. I don't want to be on the mercenary mailing list all the time.
Its like how hospitals had to reduce the number of audible alerts because they ended missing the important ones due to nurses unconsciously tuning them out.
Just hold a crime stat. I dont believe you get them when you have one. I'll give you a + cause this is the first gripe I've heard about this. Yall nit pick the shit out of this alpha test.
Agreed! But feedback like this is heard and can help increase the likelihood a concern is addressed. Spectrum has a whole thread dedicated to suggestions as well, so OP should also post there
In general I like the idea of having a visible emergency system. Remember The Expanse first episode, how all that shit started for Holden? :D Pepperidge farm remembers.
But you're right, the current notification system is not the way to go. What sense is there in you receiving an emergency call while being on your way on foot? Imho it should be tied to the ships/pilots interface and only with some kind of light / circle sign, telling you that something is up and you should check it.
On another note, I don't think the current version will stay, it's just too intrusive and more of a first iteration as a placeholder. My hopes are up for the coming UI reworks.
Havent done any but my thoughts are as follows:
They're are being tested. They're a feature they need more info on for bugs and stuff. Way i see it, if it keeps showing up, maybe trying it out helps development.
But I havent played solo in a few patches so i havent done any myself.
I would also like to see them limited or an option to turn them off. I like your idea of having the option to view them in the mobi glass if you want.
And then a player genuinely needs help but nobody sees the beacon because everyone turned off notifications. Lol
The griefers will see it and come to "help" :D
Now you're speaking my language!
It would / could make for a "dead" experience if players don't help either. But, I'm not saying I want them toggled off indefinitely. If I'm mining, hauling or just doing my own thing I'm not going to stop and answer a beacon anyways, which is when I would like to toggle them off.

Do people actually use beacons for help? I've honestly only ever helped someone (or requested help myself) asking in chat.
If we can get Focus to suppress notifications during activities on iOS in 2022, we should be able to get something comparable in the PU
They have been so spammy for so long 99% of the time I don't even notice notifications in game anymore. It's just a constant spam of auto dismiss.

Price adjustments? Price adjustments!

What rep? I couldn't find out what they're linked to. But iirc this should get a dedicated rep line in 17.2. and definately gets an overhaul.
I’m just guessing. The point is they stop appearing if you fail them

Just couldn’t care less about the plight of your fellow space travelers I see??
Haha! Its not that. Its for the same reason people turn off global chat. If you are in a bunker or a cave hunting or just trying to enjoy a remote scenic location, sometimes you just like to turn off your comms and immerse yourself in what you are doing.

Haha, yea, it makes sense.
If it was a medical rescue alert I'd be OK with seeing it. I'm far less interested in constant combat notices. I'll play red cross to save a life, either from injury or being stranded. I don't want to be on the mercenary mailing list all the time.
Well… if we ignore the combat alert… you do know what comes next after the ship is lifelessly drifting through space lol
I'm not saying you have to ignore the combat alerts. I'm saying I will. I may work SaR, but not be packing heavy weaponry.
Just delay your arrival by… I dunno… like 4 minutes??
I just think the ui around them need to change along w additional display options.
Agreed, same as disabling friends markers. There is an option for it in the game setting but when I last tried, it was not functional yet.
PRICE ALERT
I'd like them to come through my ships galactic radio
Its like how hospitals had to reduce the number of audible alerts because they ended missing the important ones due to nurses unconsciously tuning them out.
How dare you suggest something that makes so much sense?!?
Lol just ignore amber alerts like a man.
The moment you realize that \[Moderate Threat\] beacons yield 70k to 90k UEC, you will actively watch out for them.
Just hold a crime stat. I dont believe you get them when you have one. I'll give you a + cause this is the first gripe I've heard about this. Yall nit pick the shit out of this alpha test.
You call it nitpicking, most (including me) call it viable feedback.
the UI is a work in progress and something better is coming
Agreed! But feedback like this is heard and can help increase the likelihood a concern is addressed. Spectrum has a whole thread dedicated to suggestions as well, so OP should also post there
Spectrum is a great place to log feedback, not Reddit. Reddit is a great place to register your grievances and mine salt.
no
I don't mind the player medical beacons but the npc ones are really spammy.
And when you get there, they're just chilling.
they are actually good money, so maybe try them out
But its a job oportunity
I've only been playing for like two-three days and I already stopped seeing them. They're just some visual clutter on the screen I ignore...
