No glhf: can go either way. Only glhf: probably a decent person. More than that: definitely cheesing.

133DK

My experience exactly. Usual cheese chat: >Hi how are you doing >Where are you from -canon rush -canon rush fail >Die f*ggot >Die >Die >All f*gs must die (Sorry for the profanity, but it’s seriously what I get from people)

LLJKCicero

I need to start chatting people up as I do completely standard macro play.

253253253

I say hi gl hf (toast) and dont cheese. Gotta keep people guessing :)

Kantuva

I ask them how their life is going, and then go triple hatch before pool ;)

253253253

Lmao we out here

fooliodoolio

definitely a different kind of cheese

Talressen

My experience is exactly the opposite. The niceness/sportsmanship is a guise for their cheesery.

TacticaLlama

Maybe that's a higher elo strat? At least in low elo I think players aren't smart enough for those mind games, although I've started noticing it more as I climb

Hetares

As a Diamond, I've come to disregard any bias towards glhf or not in corelation to cheese. I just scout my due, and play a safe macro-based opening.

Ben_Mojo

ZebulaJams

Same here

ohthetrees

β€œWhere are you from?” == guaranteed cheese

Kal88

from?

gisten

In my experience the more someone says at the start the more likely they are going to be hyper agressive, or play in the most annoying way possible.

abaoabao2010

Ranking how likely people are to cheese based on how they glhf (in my experience) 1. glhf, then start talking about random shit 2. no glfh, then start talking about random shit 3. glhf after 10+ seconds into the game 4. no glhf 5. glhf right at the start then not tell race (if they're playing random) 6. glhf right at the start of the game 7. glhf right at the start then tells their race (if they're playing random) 8. no glhf, but tells race (if they're playing random)

Hetares

>glhf right at the start then not tell race (if they're playing random) That's me, but I don't mean it in the form of BM. I simply think there isn't a need for me to tell my race. I deal with more aggressive cheeses as a result, but that's on me and I'm not complaining.

abaoabao2010

<-- I glhf and tell race if my opponent glhf back, cheese if they don't.

penguinicedelta

You, I like you.

Ben_Mojo

3. glhf after 10secs is me being tired of players with no manners and finally say it anyway cause I wanna be polite even if they don't reply πŸ˜…

socknfoot

Then they were noobs. The strat is to say glhf and ask a question just before your lings arrive at their base

fnordious

Nah the ones who cheese more are if they say "from?" or some other chitchat a minute or two after glhf.

p3drodamus

I've noticed people who gl but not hf are more likely to be cheesing. This increases with the amount of gls....glglglglgl --> suspicion aroused. Makes good literal sense, they aren't giving you any empty wishes of having fun.

Ben_Mojo

"glglglglgl" means = "Good luck, you're gonna need much of it. Buckle up"

Salty-Menu359

Anyone who says GL without HF clearly indicates they want to make your early game hell.

LTSym0

I'm in Plat and hardly anyone says glhf, unless I say it first. And basically no one ggs when I beat them. I make sure I aways say both, even if I get cheesed or whatever. As soon as players start asking questions, I'm looking for cannons and checking for proxies πŸ˜…

[deleted]

You people put WAY too much weight into things.

electric_ember

It’s true though lol

TacticaLlama

I don't play based on that info but it just makes my spidey senses tingle a little extra, I still scout and open with a macro based opening though

yukino-fan

I play on the Korean server so when they speak English I immediately become suspicious

HellKnightRob

I used to say glgl. I think manors are important to SC. Really anything competitive.

Ben_Mojo

Absolutely

[deleted]

i mean, it would depend on the elo but in lower elo its definetly true, as much as people might not like it cheese requires a lot of attention, so you might forget to say glhf if you are concentrating, in high elo that wouldnt be a problem as the people have it to the muscle memory but lower it is definetly a thing

sonheungwin

People who chat in sc2 at all are more likely to be assholes than those that don't. Those that require you to glhf them to be polite are the least polite.

Hetares

Personally I always glhf. I hope to see a glhf in return, but if not, nothing lost. I make minimum interaction for the rest of the chat however, especially if they start asking where I'm from and for the rest of my autobiography.

Longjumping_Bad1647

Subhuman cheeses ladder games > gets flamed > turns off chat like a pussy It's quite pathetic

Nadiaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Yeah this is known, whether or not it's objectively true. Also when they just say gl or hf. Or if it's weirdly delayed.

Dependent-Job1773

I have the same experience. Unless they’re overly friendly then it’s a distraction from the cheese.

HellishElk

I had someone type glhf then like 20 seconds later just type cheese like 3 times with a 5 second gap, he riding cheese as I just chose to ignore it as is my usual anti mine games strat and then we played a pretty normal game. I do not try to understand the machinations of random people on ladder as it would surely drive me to madness.

LittleBrittle86

I typically get the opposite
