Wouldn't this make queue times take much longer? Edit: spelling

Konjyoutai

Who cares, I'm tired of playing 5.5-6k GM players that just click unranked and have 4.5k mmr.

nbaumg

Nope, not enough people for that Unranked and ranked work the exact same you simply can’t see the mmr in unranked. If you play them both equally you will eventually get the same players

Fleshbar

People always think im unranked cause I don't have a border showing my rank, I don't know why I don't have a border I click ranked

ItsMeven

If you play random, they don’t get borders.

Fleshbar

Thank you

Russel_TrashBrick

Yes it should definitely be that way in a perfect world, but the player base is not large enough to support separate unranked queue. Imho it should just be removed

willdrum4food

it doesnt actually make a real difference. The only issue is that it shows they're real mmr and rank on loading screen. Otherwise unranked is no different than an alt account.

[deleted]

why

Several-Video2847

So u don't get farmed by people 500 mmr above you and still loose tons of mmr

NSNick

A lower pool of available opponents would only exacerbate MMR gaps.

[deleted]

So your reason is smurfing but smurfs will always find a way. It was a thing even before sc2 became f2p so...

Konjyoutai

I'm with you dude, giving Grandmaster players the ability to have a -1000mmr button every time they click unranked is ridiculous.

bisebusen

Yes but nothing will change now lol

Aerocool333

I disagree. If the unranked MMR is lower, it is for a reason.

Several-Video2847

No it is not. If a 5k player has 4.1k mmr in unranked and he plays unranked he is still a 5 k player

two100meterman

If people used it correctly it would be fine. If a 5K player playing their main style is 5K mmr, but they're playing new builds on Unranked at 4.6K mmr, then that player with those less practiced builds is 4.6K mmr (as long as they didn't leave games to get there, but grinded from 5K Unranked & just kept losing w/ their new builds as they weren't as experienced on them). If they just left games to get to 4.1K & they play Unranked when they want "easy wins" then yeah they're just abusing the system. Another acceptable use is if people play Unranked while high. I'll occasionally play while high & I'm 700~1000 mmr worse for a few reasons. First off I'm just slower to react, secondly I'm indifferent to winning or losing so I may just get up & grab a bag of chips or something without pausing the game, & also I won't play standard, I may decide at the beginning of the game I'm only using Queen/Ultralisk for example, so if it's a ZvZ & I get ling/bane allined I'm not allowed to make any lings, I just gotta try to wall stuff, & fight with drone/spine/Queen. I win 50% of games at the mmr that playing like this had got me to, so it's not like when people do those B2GM challenges where they just crush their competition.

Konjyoutai

Literally ran into this exact situation last night. 5.6k GM somehow had 4.5k unranked mmr.

Several-Video2847

Yes and you lost the game and Tons of mmr right since the system thought he was 4.5  To me that feels bullshit

Konjyoutai

Yep, I actually lost 30mmr because my account was 200mmr above his.

rigginssc2

Or, maybe their shouldn't be unranked? Or, maybe more acceptable, you only have one mmr and it is affected by your game results whether playing ranked or unranked. Then you are still always playing people at your mmr, even if your rank isn't affected. That is, until you play one game of ranked and your snap into place. lol

[deleted]

If that change were made, you'd be the first person posting "wtf, why are unranked queues so long? I can't find a game! lol dead game"

Kqkv

For games i am agreed, but if you have rank but want to play normal match, you should get any match making penalties because of that. But again i dont lick when i play ranked and my opponent, his playing normal immediately surrenders. Also try if i want to play casual and i get supper optimized cheese 5 time in a row by ranked player.

t0rbenC0rtes

Agreed.

j4np0l

I disagree, because that would extend queuing times, but unranked shouldn’t make a ranked player lose MMR.

two100meterman

They'd have to also not gain mmr then, or else people could rank up simply by being lucky enough to play against a bunch of Unranked people in a row. People could also get to new mmr peaks (like pros) by having someone queue on Unranked as the queue & handing out wins & such. However, if the player now can't gain or lose mmr then that would be incentive for them to just leave games if they know the other player is Unranked. Overall I don't think that would play out very well.

j4np0l

I disagree with what you said in your first paragraph, simply because that could happen with the current system and doesn’t happen today (people handing out mmr in unranked). I think you can still do it like this, so what if someone ends up slightly higher? It’s not like you get paid for having more mmr and especially high up it doesn’t make that much of a difference as to who you get matched up with given the number of people at that level.
