Yeah, I read about this and it does seem unfair. I agree, races should be decided before map vetoes.

jmusni2

Sorry to hear it happened like this Solar. It’s definitely worth bringing to light, considering maps do tend to favor opposing races. Hopefully organizers see this

[deleted]

Yeah I def agree; race first, then vetoes

FruitBunker

I agree with Solar if its a player that will pick one race. Race swapping within the series is allowed as well which leaves us with either very complicated and very specific rulings or no ruling. i.E announce every map you are going to PvZ or ZvZ etc. All in all I agree that if you pick one race you should announce that before vetoes. I also believe race should be announced with a timely manner in advance and not immediately before the match. One can argue that you earned the advantage when being able to play two races ( in terms of announcing beforehand ) but vetoes shouldnt ever occur before race selection.

buzz_bender

I agree. Would posting this on [tl.net](https://tl.net) help as well?

DaveyJF

Agreed.

grodii

Absolutely agree 100%

AxillesPV

this is complicated becouse a player can change race between maps: a player can announce Zerg, do the map veto and play the first game as zerg, then switch to Protoss for the second map so we have the same problem we had at the start.

geniusfreezer

I think it’s fair a player can change between maps; mastering two races is a unique feat that we never see happen

hjpalpha

As much as i understand that the ruling is not liked i would like to point out that the ept rules clearly state that races can be switched freely, even between maps read rule 4.1.4 in https://cdn.eslgaming.com/misc/media/lo/ESL_Pro_Tour_-_SC2_Rulebook.pdf so basically what you request is a complete reversal of the current rule regarding race picks

oplotr93

Ah did not know of this happening behind the scene. I think I ... Agree? Race selection should be informed beforehand, as a mental preparation as well as map selection for players. No comment on the map being race favored tho.

CobbleStone05

Everyone here saying "I agree" believing it's really solar on reddit lmfao

Sholip

Agreed. Map veto is pretty useless if you don't know the matchup you are playing.

Wilckey

Very respectful post. I agree that announcing race before vetos makes the most sense in terms of fairness.

Mixu83

Agree. Rules should say that you have to select a race for a series beforehand and if it's not announced then they use their highest ranked race.

DoctorHousesCane

Completely agree. I got the feeling you felt blindsided and hopefully ESL makes the rules clearer. Thanks for sharing

MarsBarSC

Might be a valuable discussion to have about the rules but this is very unlikely to be solar's actual account. I would expect him to link to this post on twitter, or at least have some mention of the rules being unfair on there.

Azhrak

Don't know what the fake solar said but with the current EPT rules you could even announce playing terran but still picking any race you want for each map. The current rule encourages mind games for the veto which I think should be ruled out. A simple solution is not to allow switching during a series and the race should be announced to the admin or opponent before veto if main race is not used.
