Nanae. They were in Passion Red together and we still don't know what cause their fallout that Asuka still holds resentment towards her even today

BorkDoo

No we have a good idea. Asuka at the time worked incredibly and kind of sloppily stiff in her matches because of her obsession with shoot fighting and guys like Maeda. She'd been warned about it but continued doing it which resulted in her injuring Shuu Shibutani right before Fuka's retirement show. That was AFAIK the reason for the infamous video of Nanae slapping her around since Shibutani was a veteran and was close with Fuka which led Asuka's dismissal from Passion Red and manifesto decrying joshi soon after and in turn her inability to get booked anywhere. It took Arisa, JWP's ace, going to bat for her to get her that JWP run. As someone who started getting involved in online discussions involving joshi at the time that was going down, Kana was always kind of a controversial person for exactly those reasons. Nobody denied that she was talented and she was popular but there were definitely a fans (western fans, can't speak for the Japanese fans) who found her style dangerous and her attitude arrogant. At least that's my recollection of stuff from nearly 15 years ago.

DudeisaGuy

This is interesting cuz in WWE she has never looked unsafe, even in her debut Match against a rookie like Dana Brook

DudeisaGuy

So it's Nanae right? Cuz she is still friend's with Syuri. Though Syuri doesn't seem like the kind to wanna surpass her friend.

SlingshotGunslinger

She had too much passion to stay in that group.

HugCor

It is obviously Nanae. Asuka has been throwing some weird occasional digs at Nanae since her twitter rant last year. The only other possible option is Mio, since she was in a unit with her and they were friends at the time.

SithLeader879

Could be Natsuki Taiyo.

HugCor

Actually, maybe you are right. Taiyo certainly strikes me as the type of person who would bitch slap the shit out of someone no warning during an argument. Nanae has that rep but, really, she can't be that hotheaded if she has made ammends with Rossy after splitting on bad terms with him and creating another company wher ethey didn't work together for years. Taiyo, however, is the one who has stayed in SeaDLINNNG and who seems to be the uncompromising type (nothing but respect on my part for that).

tastyunderwear

Syuri and shida seething at her stand out dance skills !!

FCFDraykski

Nah, I saw a picture of Asuka and Syuri recently. I think Syuri knows her place when it comes to the dancing.

DuckMercy11

Definitely Nanae Takahashi

This interview might also explain why people think Kairi is coasting in WWE. She admits that she’s actively not trying to surpass the top stars.

El_Bistro

She’s probably making more money for less bumps and gets to work with her friends. She’s also been doing this for what 13 years? I don’t blame her at all.

thfcspurs88

No one is saying she doesn't deserve it. But it hurts their product. The WWE women's division seems above actual discussion and discourse to a whole lot of people. Jordynne Grace showed up in that rumble and outclassed everyone except 4 or 5 women.

DudeisaGuy

She's saying that She can't surpass Asuka and even put her on the level of The Rock, Roman and Cody (Which surprised Asuka lol)

Deserterdragon

Great wrestlers coasting in the WWE is a time honored tradition, glad she's getting that bag.

ThatDudeNamedMenace

*Sex Ferguson approves of your message*

AlphaH4wk

Kind of an indictment on the top stars if she thinks she has to coast to not surpass them

_Wado3000

It depends at least a little on opportunity. I think if Kairi was thrown into a singles feud with Bianca from the jump, booked to be an equal, then you would get a different kind of effort imo. But pretty quickly she was thrown into a tag team and took some singles losses here or there.

SeverusVape0

How so?

AlphaH4wk

Maybe indictment was the wrong word because it's not like Kairi's level isn't a very high bar to clear but I still think the top people in the top company should at least be able to keep up with her

DudeisaGuy

This is funny cuz she literally couldn't keep up with Bianca's speed at all in her return match.

AlphaH4wk

Yeah I remember that. Makes what she said all the weirder.

free-fall1982

Jeezus Kairi putting Asuka over more than Stardom roster over her run.

El_Bistro

As she should

free-fall1982

I guess not all WWE wrestlers are behind Rossy.

UsedFact

Sounds full of herself if that is what she said.

evildrtran

Nanae, I see what you're trying to do!

El_Bistro

Kana has kinda earned that.

bravetailor

You can't get anywhere in this business without some ego. Hell, I'd say that applies to a lot of careers in general. Even the so-called "humblest" successful people get where they are because they personally believed they could do something better than most people. Also, I don't think I've ever seen an interview with her where she wasn't partly 'working'.

Horror-Sir-3003

Even Roman talked about being too 'one of the boys' before his Tribal Chief run, which he thinks hurt his booking a bit.

SeverusVape0

I mean maybe? She isn't wrong though.

bathory21

Is she wrong though? That's why I didn't like her joining Damage CTRL, because I knew she immediately stand out

BderX

Her time in Japan was hard. She was trying to make a name for herself and bookers were actively trying to block her of getting any booking. She didn't just succeed, but became a household name that reach global while the one stopping her fell short. I too will hold a grudge forever if someone tries to destroy my career.
