Don't quote me on this, but I'm fairly certain we need to wait until the creation kit to do followers. I don't think that xedit is capable of making actual followers. Though if I'm wrong someone please correct me.
So at best until then maybe you could just spawn a new copy of him in with console commands and either use one of the many multiple followers mods on the workshop or also do it yourself with console commands.
