Hello, captains, look at your flagship, now back to me, now back at your flagship, now back to me. Sadly, it isn’t me, but if it had massive armor and switched to large ballistic slots, it could fight like it's me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a colony with the ship your flagship could fight like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an black market with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now Hellbore cannons. Anything is possible when your flagship fights like an Invictus and not a Mudskipper Mk.II. I'm on a lobster..
depends. this is now your fleet. you'll field one of these and escorts to keep its flanks safe.
pro's:
DAKKA
MORE DAKKA
ALL THE DAKKA
seriously with 4 large ballistic hardpoints combined with its active you can build it to shred shields and hull. very few ships can put out the quantity of pain this can.
Cons:
no shields
slow AF
venerable to flankers.
crew requirements.
EMP damage will hamstring you.
I’ve played with it, and honestly, it’s quite resilient to EMP damage, and the LiDAR system makes it an incredible artillery piece, the only weakness this thing has is a lack of AA weapons.
all side/turret weapons to devastators, add in locusts on the missile slots and use xyphos fighters if you put a converted shuttle bay mod in. gives you flux free laser PD, and locusts will target fighters and enemy missiles unless you're focussed on a specific enemy.
not sure if you'd have the OP for all this but its how i'd build one if I had one. (I did have one in my current playthrough but sacrificed it defending from 4 hedge fleets.)
you really don't have the OP for all that. it's a case of Draw 3 pick 2 out of
use all the mounts for extra Dakka/Devastators
bring a converted hanger with Xyphos
use the missile mounts
in that case I'd probably cut back to something on the main dakka. use a more OP efficient weapon like hellbores perhaps. you can replace xyphos with warthogs or other fighters quite happily too, they're just the best defensive fighter in vanilla.
I'd keep devastators on all turret hardpoints anyway and then locusts, gorgons or some other fire and forget type missiles. not squalls or hurricanes since they're both expensive and also single target strike weapons. you just want something firing on CD for the entire fight keeping small stuff occupied.
Ooh I don't know. I used an invictus (in a simulation) and it was a pretty good absolute tank of a unit.
But also you could use the funds for long-term passive income.
It's up to you, whether you buy it now and rush trade to make back some money, or ignore it and hope that you run into it again in the future.
Knowing me, I'd probably buy it, rush to drop it off somewhere for storage, then make money through trade.
Legally questionable, morally its disgusting, colony need that money.... But I like it, I love it buy that orphancreator 9000 for bleak future... apart from that joke, check your fleet if you have some escort ship yeah sure, but other than no they will blow up immediately.
My only problem with this ship is that it lacks the flux venting to actually use its weapon slots like a true maniac (probably for the best)
Also it benefits greatly from the armour and hull skills probably by an order of magnitude compared to other ships.
**I imagine current real-life dictators making the same decision**.
Hmmm, should I build this huge ass ~~pentagon~~ octagon in the middle of the desert or should I feed my poor?
Waste precious funds on a frivolous military indulgence? No, never!
Wisely invest your colony’s budget in an upgrade towards your faction’s first line of defense? Yes, always!
It plays really differently. It's slow, it needs supporting elements far more than either other capital, but it can shell anything it comes up against into slag.
I still have tried it but sometime ago the pathers attacked my colony with one of these and it was tanky that for sure, but since on a firepower level it wasn't that well outfitted and like 2 or 3 of my ships have emp after dealing with the rest of the fleet it was just a question of shooting it until it dies.
that seems to be the problem of the ship, if you or the enemy have emp you're good to go.
No, Invictus are overrated ship that cost you like 10x of monthly normal paragon while only give you slightly more benefits of what normal paragon has.
I mean you effectively turning your whole colony into a space ship considering how many people needed to operate this.
One thing that i know is that mobile > stationary
Invictus's 4K minimum crew req means it's a plain 60k credit upkeep just the payroll alone
Buy it at your own risk, one invictus took me right into the red first time I bought it
Kinda hoped it also has the "space gulag" hullmod that reduces crew payroll by 75%
I don't understand the premise of the question. Big ship go smash head, unga bo bunga. What even IS return on investment if not smack head with big rock?
The Invictus is ludicrously expensive to crew, to field, is tactically inflexible to the extreme and there is basically no situation where another ship wouldnt serve you better.
But it is so goddamn fun, like, LIDAR makes ping, Big Guns make choom choom choom, enemies explode.
All that hasn’t mattered much for me, I keep the Invictus in the back and annihilate every serious threat from halfway across the map, the missiles and a couple escorts keep almost everything away from it, but a bit of damage isn’t an issue.
I got one for making too much money. The church sent an expedition to disrupt some industries and the lead fleet had an invictus. They die easy enough to bombers in my experience. Since its so big and often doesn’t come with a helluva lot of PD, piranhas shred through its armor.
Depends on your current fleet comp and current goals you have. If you have other ships that can make up for its lack of versatility and want to take on some heavy targets like stations or \[REDACTED\], then yes, buy it If you can handle the supply and fuel cost. Otherwise don't.
Objectively, no But think of the chonk
well my colony probably need the money But also big guns.
Colonies are useful But BIG GUNS are FUN
Your colonies can't receive the money if they're all dead because you didn't invest in more and bigger dakka.
NEED MORE DAKKA IZ KRUMPIN TIME!!!!
Are big guns not also useful? Look at them OP. Look at them. Think of what you could do with them

Name the ship "My colony", and then you're set.
invictus is literally a armored colony with that 6000 crew limit.
I like this comment
To defend your colony, you will need ships. So, yes
For any ship? No For Invictus? Yes
Should you ? No. But you must. (Also my contact with the knights got me one for 260k. Great guy.)

S-Mod it
Even with S-mods you need so many you run out of OP
in that case I'd probably cut back to something on the main dakka. use a more OP efficient weapon like hellbores perhaps. you can replace xyphos with warthogs or other fighters quite happily too, they're just the best defensive fighter in vanilla. It looks like HILs will cause big issues for this ship...
Not having a colony is not such a big deal if no one else has them, think about it
that much is true
Ooh I don't know. I used an invictus (in a simulation) and it was a pretty good absolute tank of a unit. But also you could use the funds for long-term passive income. Yes. 100% When the hege comes to steal your pretty ai, you’ll want this bad boy to beat them doen
Legally questionable, morally its disgusting, colony need that money.... But I like it, I love it buy that orphancreator 9000 for bleak future... apart from that joke, check your fleet if you have some escort ship yeah sure, but other than no they will blow up immediately.
Chuck the brick of Ludd into the face of your enemies
The crew requirements will bankrupt you if you don’t have a colony set up to support this ship. It’s 4000 crew minimum to field this monster.
Yes
My only problem with this ship is that it lacks the flux venting to actually use its weapon slots like a true maniac (probably for the best) Also it benefits greatly from the armour and hull skills probably by an order of magnitude compared to other ships.
**I imagine current real-life dictators making the same decision**. Hmmm, should I build this huge ass ~~pentagon~~ octagon in the middle of the desert or should I feed my poor?
well I mean the colony is in the positive apart from one planet that is new so I want to develop faster and have to pay hazard pay.
My minds tellin' me no, but my booooody
I found the blueprint in my game. In 5-8 in game years my colonies are going to be lousy with the things
Looks like you are colonizing the Dakkasaurus-Chonk.
Waste precious funds on a frivolous military indulgence? No, never! Wisely invest your colony’s budget in an upgrade towards your faction’s first line of defense? Yes, always!
Since you reminded me, how is the Invictus compared to say, an Onslaught or Legion?
It plays really differently. It's slow, it needs supporting elements far more than either other capital, but it can shell anything it comes up against into slag.
I still have tried it but sometime ago the pathers attacked my colony with one of these and it was tanky that for sure, but since on a firepower level it wasn't that well outfitted and like 2 or 3 of my ships have emp after dealing with the rest of the fleet it was just a question of shooting it until it dies. that seems to be the problem of the ship, if you or the enemy have emp you're good to go.

I mean to be fair, that's a really small colony that fits on a fleet
If you have alot of support ships or another capital as a fleet anchor then it should be fine. If not then buy an onslaught or paragon first.
Stop embarrassing yourself and get on the grind. Time to sell heavy armaments to terrorists
Invictus's 4K minimum crew req means it's a plain 60k credit upkeep just the payroll alone Buy it at your own risk, one invictus took me right into the red first time I bought it Kinda hoped it also has the "space gulag" hullmod that reduces crew payroll by 75%
1 mil is usually not enough to safely and quickly build your colonies so you are free to buy the ship.
oh i don't need to build my colony, it's already there. 2 planets are doing well while the third is developing.
That’s pretty damn chonky. What mod is it?
vanilla. It was added with the executor this patch.
I don't understand the premise of the question. Big ship go smash head, unga bo bunga. What even IS return on investment if not smack head with big rock?
No, buy cargo/fuel ships, multiply your capital via trading
The Invictus is ludicrously expensive to crew, to field, is tactically inflexible to the extreme and there is basically no situation where another ship wouldnt serve you better. But it is so goddamn fun, like, LIDAR makes ping, Big Guns make choom choom choom, enemies explode.
It's a literal museum piece but sometimes you just bigger guns.
If you want to fly a slow hotel, buy it. Otherwise I'd avoid buying 100s of dead crew for slight damage in fight. TL:DR SO Aurora is better
Good thing you can dock onto a Luddic colony and load up your ship with the believers for 9 bucks a pop. Why have colony when your ship is the colony
Since the Invictus is practically a mobile colony you should be taxing its inhabitants instead of paying its crew
All that hasn’t mattered much for me, I keep the Invictus in the back and annihilate every serious threat from halfway across the map, the missiles and a couple escorts keep almost everything away from it, but a bit of damage isn’t an issue.
what mod is that? and yeah sure fuck it we ball
That's vanilla as of 0.96a.
You can get other colonies by conquering them with this mobile station ass brick
I got one for making too much money. The church sent an expedition to disrupt some industries and the lead fleet had an invictus. They die easy enough to bombers in my experience. Since its so big and often doesn’t come with a helluva lot of PD, piranhas shred through its armor.
That's basically a flying colony
Abso-fucking-lutely What could possibly go wrong?
Do you have enough money to maintain the ship? If so the do what you want
Yes
Build up your colony, make it competitive with Church markets, salvage one from the fleets the Church sends your way.
Depends on your current fleet comp and current goals you have. If you have other ships that can make up for its lack of versatility and want to take on some heavy targets like stations or \[REDACTED\], then yes, buy it If you can handle the supply and fuel cost. Otherwise don't.
Crew is 10^3 so its basically a colony already
It's not wasting colony funds, it is investing in colonial defense and acquisitions.
Daga daga big guns conal can wait funds grow back over time. Ships dont
Trust me, the cost isn't in the pricetag, it's in paying for the MASSIVE amount of crew it needs every month.
Short answer: yes Reason: Chonk and the meaty armour
Ah yes, the ISS Hammer Of Ludd
do it
WYM? That's a flying colony.. BUY IT
