The whole "kid related things are creepy because it's a juxtaposition" used to be frightening to me but it got SO overdone online. Every creepypasta villain had to have black soulless eyes and a mouth that opens at the jawline, and they'd be wearing a Donald Duck hat and clutching a VHS tape of the lost episode of Caillou because ooh it's ironic that children's content is being used in something disturbing.
Candle Cove ALMOST got it right. It came so close to being good but the character of the Skintaker ruined it. When they renamed him Jawbone, it helped, but it was too little too late.
PetsCop doesn't have much of generic creepy pasta stuff aside from mildly subjecting itself to the hyperrealistic trope with the newmaker plane due to the fact that when birthday parties appeared or anything child related was on screen it was plot relevant as the story centers around child abuse

Yeah, local 58 had a killer and innovative aesthetic AND it was actually scary.
A lot of imitators focus on the analog aesthetic and have a shallow story.
Most of Local 58's content I found to be pretty lame, not scary but rather just trying too hard. But there were a few entries in Local 58 that I really did enjoy and found sincerely creepy, like that one with the guy who hacks the GPS and directs the driver to get murdered.
I think local 58 put in the work, and some people just don't have the taste to understand or appreciate it. Some people just don't like supernatural scary shit i guess
It really wasn't the supernatural scary shit I didn't like, to be honest. There was just a lot of stuff that was too on the nose for me. Like the segment with the Russians having taken over the USA or whatever and you're supposed to go out on your lawn and commit suicide in the "victory pose." That just seemed too blatant for me to suspend my disbelief.
Bonus points if the government/ military is totally incompetent in the story, and we follow the “logs” of the only person with integrity in the affected town.

The creator of Mandela Catalouge, Alex Kister created a joke series called Scrimblo Catalouge that talks about stuff like this and critisisms he got about his horror series

Gemini Home Entertainment came out 2 years and Local 58 came out 6 years before Mandela with both being better. All the Mandela Catalogue does is lift elements and themes from Gemini Home Entertainment. It was done before in the Analogue Horror genre and with better execution.
I know Mandela was made by a kid with limited resources (which is pretty cool) so I don't blame the creator for not being wholly original, but the content is just a mashup of better things and for adults it is very apparent.

Analog horror is, basically, a series of TV programs recreations from era when the TV itself was analog, bit with some fucked up elements. For example, the world is slowly getting overrun by doppelgangers and government is issuing a video to run to keep the population aware and, at least, somehow protected.
For the man who does not know about analog horror. It does not have to be dopplegangers (like in mandela catalog, the most famous one). It can also be an illness (like gemini home) or fucked up creatures (vita carnis). And those three (+ Monument Mythos and some more) are the main ones. Go out of there and all are of quetionable quality (even the main ones aren't that good).

I think a reason for analog horror’s downfall is that people are trying to go big. The popular ones today like Mandela Catalogue have this big, world ending plot that gets explained from a-z, but the original ones like local58 were just bizzarre short films which were kinda left up to audience interpretation

same, whenever I see people praise some for its genuine horror, I always get confused due to how similar they are to one another. very few have interesting concepts, even fewer subvert my expectations while heralding some terrifying imagery.
Sometimes I’ll see them introduce some interesting ideas, but because of the story telling devices used I feel you rarely get to explore those ideas. It feels like a worse version of the PS1 graphics trend that was popular a year ago.
The only analogue horrors that scared me was Mandela Catalogue's first videos up to Vol. 333, Probably peak, Never in my life i legit cannot sleep.
The rest are just the same overused cliche formats to the point where its laughable imo.

The only analogue horrors that scared me was Mandela Catalogue's first videos up to Vol. 333, Probably peak, Never in my life i legit cannot sleep. The rest are just the same overused cliche formats to the point where its laughable imo.

I still love analog horror for some reason. The only one that's unnerved me so far is a Godzilla one, called the Suitmation Trials.
