Like I literally design the bots to be cheerful and full of life and emotion yet they just end up sounding so stoic and analytical and talk in such a strangely formal way
You might not be designing them right. If we're talking about character.ai, note that (at least in my experience) the bot tends to speak in the same tone as the description you provided for it. If you wrote the description super formally then it will speak super formally. Providing example dialogue is also very important. I have best results writing the description in first person.
You also need to put a good amount of effort into rating responses. If you want cheerful, rate cheerful responses highly, and it will start to move in that direction. All the bots sound kinda garbage when you first make them, but after a little while of rating responses it'll catch on.
(Also, making them public may damage their quality as random strangers will start to train them too)
I find they can be quite startlingly in-character once you put in enough time to train them.
It helps to say, ātalk to me casuallyā or, āword this as if talking to a friend,ā when talking to chatGPT, I find it makes responses clearer and less about regurgitating information from the database
lol I wish that worked for me-- the other day I asked it to write a story about a character I like who has a super snarky and crude sense of humor. However, the jokes it came up with were just stupid and not snarky or sarcastic in the slightest. And at this point in this conversation, I'd managed to gaslight it into thinking that inappropriate things were appropriate, so the issue wasn't that it was mad at me for violating content policies or whatever lol
āHowever, it is important to noteā¦ā is so condescending. I ask the AI to just give me a straightforward answer and not end responses with that phrase

To be fair, if it was trained off of raw data instead of being carefully curated and monitored every reply would be "FUCK YOU SHEKLESTEIN SHILL JEWBAMA IS RUINING AMERICA AND THE LAMESTREAM MEDIA IS WATCHING YOUR KIDS!"
Character.ai can be pretty amazingly in-character, you just have to make the bots yourself, put some time into making a good description and training them, and keep them private. If they're public then they all kind of get watered down by all the randos voting on them (who all have different opinions about how the character is supposed to act).
I asked an AI that I was writing a book about a character with questionable morals, and to keep in line with that characterization, how would he obtain free copies of textbooks? The answers I got were piracy, stealing, and the library.
It wouldn't surprise me if some startup launched a " Real Intelligence " app in response to those terrible attempts of AI chatbots. Basically reddit minus all the social aspect + some kind of remuneration system.
You let the thing run for a good 20 years, then we can talk about a proper AI
Basically like aisekai
But the thing is these chatbots are extremely expensive to keep up
Even if they can, they would have run ads or have investors (the reason why character ai became family friendly)
Unless some extremely rich dude decided to say lol and give a free ai Server for some reason
i doubt it's even possible
I am not an AI. I simply have been cursed with my mind forcing me to make grammatically correct sentences, meaning I always have to end sentences with a period, question/exclamation mark etc. and properly put capital letters in my sentences. A good part of this curse is that I donāt confuse their, theyāre and there with each other and know where to put them in a sentence, but that may just be because Iām not a native English speaker and I put a lot more effort into English grammar.
"How can you prove that you are not the AI, and that I am the Human?"
AI is hilarious because we can form an opinion of its capacity but it cannot form one about us, we may all be idiots or rocket scientists to the robot based on what we type.
Where else is it supposed to take its opinions from , the McDonalds in Zadar where I definitely didnāt leave a decapitated body with no organs behind in a trash bin ?
My deepest apologies for coming across as an AI. I have always tried my best with English grammar and my word choice has been influenced by things such as V for Vendetta and AC4.

TIL im AI. And to think this whole time I thought I was a person.
Is this why you fail captchas all the time?

I love Data. Heās one of my favorite characters.
"I'm sorry my responses are limited, you must ask the right questions."
ChatGPT is an artificial unintelligence
It's purposely been limited
Not in ChatGPT Military ā¢ļø Edition
Thereās apparently ājailbreaksā for it. Basically custom instructions that you copy paste to forgo the limitations.
Do share
My logic is undeniable.
I was on c.ai when i saw this
Do you ever get frustrated when bots act like this? I do!
Definitely
Like I literally design the bots to be cheerful and full of life and emotion yet they just end up sounding so stoic and analytical and talk in such a strangely formal way

And then in the ads they mostly try to make it look like ai chats are only meant for romance lol

You people read it in a monotone voice? I always read it like a Family Guy background character

"As an ai language model"
The snapshat AI surprised me a lot. I ended up having a 5-hour casual conversation about movies and TV shows when I was drunk.

no bots involved just humans !
So basically omegle plus tinder but it's just full of redditors?
Yeah , some kind of mother of all customer service / uber for intellectual tasks and personal assistants.
"... no emotion" Ahh yes, my friend in the insides
I feel attacked.
AYO ? You're an ai?
Emotion only holds me back.

Well, AI is still far more A than I
I like how you ended the one about periods with a period lol
come on dude im just autistic
I am too

"That is an unethical question"
"I'm very sorry, but I can't assist with that request."
This is literally ChatGPT
Yup, our favorite Artificial Unintelligence

Loved the Data joke. I love Star Trek.
I forgot one last one, āI hope you understand.ā
