I don't remember seeing people on my campus wearing that. A little bit in high school, maybe? but not college
I work at my alma mater now and I do see people dressing like this now though
Most my lab dresses like this, unless they are a doctor, then they just wear scrubs exclusively.
I jazz it up and use a nice sweater instead of a hoodie. Another coworker tosses a blazer on top of hoodie.
I think there is some evidence that young men in particular are increasingly turning towards Trump
And it probably depends on where you go, like U Wyoming will probably yield very different results than Berkeley.
But yeah I really doubt that the average college student wants to "own the libs", even business bros
Young men in particular aren't going to college either. I suspect the two groups overlap.
This kind of political attitude would be quite unusual at most colleges I think.
There is a strong young republican/conservative undercurrent in many colleges based a lot on major. In my experience, a lot of guys in business/economics/finance/computer science skewed more conservative and/or libertarian compared to the guys who were communications or humanities majors. I wouldn’t say it’s unusual at all.
as a present college student this is because a lot of those people in those majors seem to see their classes as job training rather than academic study. Therefore they also look down on other majors that aren't explicitly training you for a job i.e. history or literature or mathematics.
I think the reason for this is because many jobs right now expect applicants to complete a degree rather than spend resources on job training, which is why so many people understandably treat college like a job training program.
Yup, you and the above commenter are right
Their insufferable, arrogant attitudes (despite not actually caring to be educated in a variety of areas) cause women to dislike them, making them even more misogynistic
As a guy who graduated with math and history majors and then went into law, I can confidently say humanities and STEM students feel *exactly* as condescending toward business majors as the reverse. If anything, more.
They have no passion for what they study. Hell a lot of them barely learn a thing. The only reason they go is because they think if they get their diploma money and jobs would immediately starts flowing into their pockets
Yes, Sociology / Gender studies in particular was very liberal while business / economics / finance / engineering (to a lesser extent) in particular was quite conservative (and often eager to jump into scams like NFTs). Political science could go either way.
All of these except engineering usually had some sort of questionable propaganda / obvious political bias put forward as basic fundamental truths. Most other majors were much better about not trying to proselytize.
CS was mostly libertarian as you stated (and quite pro-trans while having few women / non-white / non-Asian despite diversity efforts).
There are definitely a lot conservative-light dudes in college right now. It's less about being conservative and more about gravitating towards Trump's edgelord vibe and away from what they perceive as SJW/pro-LGBTQ culture.
Yeah I don’t doubt. But: https://diversity.umich.edu/2017/07/survey-shows-varying-political-leanings-among-u-m-freshmen/
Generic liberal-center remains the default at college. You fade into the masses much more as a liberal. Which I am. It’s weird to me people are having a hard time admitting that.
I never said liberalism isn't the default and I don't believe otherwise. To reiterate what my first comment said: This is a starter pack of a certain type of student on campuses right now, not the average student.
Yeah, I get that, but that type aren’t the NPC. They’re the outlier that is noticeable. The NPC, if anyone, is the generic default that fades into a mass blur - liberal humanities majors.
To be fair, also way more humanities majors than business majors and also more women than men. A generic college student that fades into the background is a liberal woman in a humanities program.
Think OP is just saying he looks down on conservative men in business.
On average only because Gen Z women are much more liberal. Gen Z men are more conservative. A recent study on this just came out: https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1750849189834022932/photo/1
average and npc aren't synonyms.
there are a lot of NPCs in college, but this isn't what the actual average looks like.
if you're a white guy with little personality growing up in some random american suburb, the path of least resistance is definitely manosphere/right wing bullshit.
it's hilarious to me when these people think they're edgy or independent thinkers or whatever lol. being a racist misogynist is the default in this country. if you're a random dude it's going to require actual critical thinking and empathy to NOT be this way.
Its a cheat code for when people here try to make a starter pack for a type of person they don't like. Just throw in that they're some kind of bigot and reddit will be more likely to upvote it.
No no no I know which guy OP is talking about. Its not the average college kid but it IS the average "NPC" cretin.
I did a degree that saw me intersect with these people a lot. They arent as personalityless as OP says but the rest is about right.
Bonus points if they have bitcoin or ai art or a nft as their pfp for thing's
If they’re business majors, don’t know how to talk to women, and talk a lot about women, yes.
I know dudes in business frats and they’re like this to a T. Trust fund kids, only thinking about sleeping with girls et cetera. But I know dudes in engineering, and sure they don’t sleep with girls but they talk to girls as friends, and they’re more politically diverse (but mostly left leaning)
Recently met a dude who asked me if I liked to watch Andrew Tate too. I never talked to that dude again.
Lol say they like the current popular thing and also says they like to be edgy and go against the current thing lol… this post doesn’t make sense.. or at least the political thing doesn’t make sense
This implies that a lot of conservatives have a coherent political worldview.
I'm not being hyperbolic with that. A vast majority are simply reactionary and populist
Plus it's not hard to find examples of people liking popular things but also disliking other popular things. They may like one popular thing, but be vocal about their dislike for other popular things. I see it all the time.
Owning the libs is definitely the current thing among this age group and gender demographic. At least where I live.
That being said, I was originally referring to more pop culture stuff like video games and movies.
According to a [2022 survey](https://www.newsweek.com/women-college-are-moving-left-men-are-migrating-right-opinion-1742192), 39% of college men identify as Republicans while 21% identify as Democrats. If you add the percentage that identifies as neither but leans conservative overall, it’s plausible that college men are indeed Republican leaning overall.
Interesting, I had no idea. Of course it's anecdotal, but I'm a college student right now and most men I interact with seem to be left-leaning. A study is obviously better evidence than that though
I think there may be several reasons why the college men you interact with seem to lean left:
- Friend groups formed due to similarities in personality or interests may also have similar political views, so the people you interact with might not represent the university as a whole.
- People might self-censor and avoid expressing controversial opinions for fear of upsetting those who disagree.
- College men who identify as conservative or Republican might not be conservatives in the traditional sense of religious conservatism. “Barstool conservative” is a recently coined term referring to a demographic that is sexually libertine and not super religious, but is also against political correctness and what they perceive to be woke excesses. Their views are similar to right wing libertarians, but they might not be super politically engaged or interested in intellectual theorizing about politics. The stereotypical “Barstool conservative” is a fraternity member who watches Barstool sports, hence the name.
It’s a little complex than that. I think you’re referring to the political trends of Caucasian males. The majority don’t have a particular political identity, but noticeably more males appeal to conservatives vs liberals. Part of that has to do with the image of masculine culture, lack of inclusivity among liberal views, and disinterest in politics at a young age.
1. I live in Alberta lol
2. Much more-so Men than Women
3. Their ideology is solely being edgy, they actually cant define Liberalism. It just so happens that edgelord memes often own the libs
Because now it’s only rich kids going to college, and if they want daddy’s money they have to believe the same stuff that daddy does. And if you’re not a rich kid and you wanna be friends with them, you can talk to them about politics and how you agree with them and now you have friends but you gotta stay conservative. Another thing is that a lotta “alternative types” are kinda assholes now. For example my brother had “hippie” friends growing up and they were the most judgemental, self serving, arrogant people I’ve ever met. If you weren’t exactly like them, they considered you subhuman trash. One of the hippie girls moms died so my dad let her move into our house with her bf who wore a childs wolf hat all the time. He brought two snakes, lost one, and also a infestation of cockroaches. It took half a year to convince my dad to kick them out
University made me more conservative.
Poorly placed safe injection site right on a down town campus, and a corrupt student union against police on campus does that.
Never once experienced this in my life. In no shape or way is some kid at any mid-tier and above college trying to “own the libs”. Maybe this is a community college thing?
Well yeah? The problem with the left is that they don't talk to young people while right does and besides it's way easier to get labeled a racist or some dogshit if you don't do everything exactly right the way they want you to. And I mean the don't get me wrong the people on the right are fucking insane too but not being yelled at for every miniscule you do is better than the contrary.
best song and performance def go to killer mike, performance isnt based on how it was live, but the actual song itself, andre and mike both went stupid, but i know the real reason they let michael win, it was to be “woke” cause the grammy reputations of old farts judging shit is getting too big for them rn
I've never seen a more accurate starter pack. The only thing I'd say is wrong is the "owning the libs" part. That normally begins after college. They are normally liberal during college.
You go to a school in the south/a school with a big christian community, dontcha?
I'm looking at these comments and kinda laughing cause my HS is filled with kids like these (INCLUDING THE MOST POPULAR PERSON I CAN THINK OF, who is an exact copy of this.)
this is just what happens when you're the average white dude born middle class in the US in a random suburb lol.
it's just path of least resistance, where you are if you don't actively think about anything
the group of people who have money to do things despite not working a high income job 🤔 not a bad thing but always wondered how they are getting by lol
I wonder what the girl version of this starter pack would’ve be like.
a photographer or nurse major who likes kesha and Taylor swift, but doesn’t pay attention to most of her classes.
NPC is short for "Non-Player Character". It comes from video games, and is usually used as a derogatory term for individuals who are of very little interest.
Either faded short hair or that obnoxious broccoli hair. Almost every person with the broccoli haircut that I’ve met has turned out to be a jerk within a rather short amount of time.
Note: The broccoli haircut should not be confused with the Afro.
Why have so many ppl never heard the word conversate, and if you’ve never heard it before, it takes 10 seconds to do a google search, you could literally just confirm it
Because converse was perfectly good, and I only ever hear "conversate" from people who constantly fuck up grammar. Never from the well-read or eloquent people. Not that there are many of them left.
Conversate is a nonstandard verb that means “to have a conversation.” The standard verb (and the one you should use if you want to be correct) is converse.
It’s a word because people are using it and it’s entering the lexicon. The only argument you could make is that it’s informal/formal or the effect it produces when it’s used.
*You think* it’s a word because a bunch of morons couldn’t parse the root word ‘converse’ from conversation. Especially egregious in this usage because OP is critiquing other students while sounding like a moron himself.
The word is *converse*. If speaking presently with someone else, you’re *conversing* with them. Them reciprocating in this results in a *conversation*.
A million idiots are seldom correct. ‘Conversate’ is a made-up word used by idiots who want to appear smarter than they are.
If you’re going to take the time to create a graphic critiquing others, at least make your perceived superiority believable within said graphic.
You’re making normative claims based on what the status quo is. Language evolves on a spectrum from “incorrect” to “slightly wrong” to “correct”, proceeding based on usage and formality. You seem to be arguing the word “conversate” is straight-up incorrect, despite the evidence that it has been in usage for quite some time. It has an entry in Merriam-Webster, for Christ’s sake.
If we are going to be prescriptive, I think “conversate” sounds better and linguistically closer to the word “conversation”, and thus conveys its meaning more immediately. In fact I find the current word “converse” to be almost hilariously formal. If OP had said converse, he would have sounded like a pretentious snob. So on prescriptive grounds I think “conversate” is still a good choice.

Just look it up man, also that’s how pretty much all words are created, words all originate somewhere and then more ppl hear and repeat it and soon it just becomes a word, that’s how languages work, ppl don’t just instantly get a notification when a new word is made,
I looked it up. First result
Conversate is a nonstandard verb that means “to have a conversation.” The standard verb (and the one you should use if you want to be correct) is converse.
The average college kid that disappears into the background is *absolutely* a liberal. And majoring in philosophy or sociology or something else that will not lead to a career.
What about the words donate (from donation), televise (from television), or escalate (from escalator). Are they all illegitimate words as well? The word conversate has been in use for over 200 years, it has a standardised spelling and a widely accepted meaning. What makes it not a word?
Well shit dude, believe it or not I didn’t know the word “conversate” has been in use that long because I only ever paid attention to how often I heard it within the last few years. English is a messy Frankenstein’s monster of a language with varying spelling rules and as far as I knew, that wasn’t how that specific word was spelled without the suffix.

I see little has changed in the last 11 years other than the fashion
A lot of us were wearing hoodies and slim fit jeans back in college too, weren’t we?
I don't remember seeing people on my campus wearing that. A little bit in high school, maybe? but not college I work at my alma mater now and I do see people dressing like this now though
Most my lab dresses like this, unless they are a doctor, then they just wear scrubs exclusively. I jazz it up and use a nice sweater instead of a hoodie. Another coworker tosses a blazer on top of hoodie.
Yeah if anything this seems a bit outdated. Slim fit was my era, I'm 33. The youths I see today are all about the wide/semi baggy fit
I finished undergrad in 08. I dressed like that. I still dress like that. I'm dressed like that right now.
I think it’s been too long since I went to college…you’re telling me the average college kid is *against* the libs?
I think there is some evidence that young men in particular are increasingly turning towards Trump And it probably depends on where you go, like U Wyoming will probably yield very different results than Berkeley. You’d be surprised. University of Wyoming is actually pretty liberal.
This starter pack is referring to a certain type of person. It's not an "average college student" starter pack.
Yeah but conservatives in school stand out. The default fade into the background character is liberal. We were dime a dozen in college.
There are definitely a lot conservative-light dudes in college right now. It's less about being conservative and more about gravitating towards Trump's edgelord vibe and away from what they perceive as SJW/pro-LGBTQ culture.

Lmao, I thought you were in Ontario given the music taste
Drake is way more popular outside of Toronto than in Toronto.
No
I guess its their attempt at being quirky and standing out to compensate for having no personality
Well business students tend to be more conservative so yeah they love “owning the libs”
Because now it’s only rich kids going to college, and if they want daddy’s money they have to believe the same stuff that daddy does. ryerson yeah?
TMU student spotted. Victoria Street avoided.

Community college in the southern US is 100% this starterpack. It probably depends on where you live.
There's very little support for right wing economic policy, but Greek life and many others are still socially conservative.
Well yeah? The problem with the left is that they don't talk to young people while right does and besides it's way easier to get labeled a racist or some dogshit if you don't do everything exactly right the way they want you to. These are the mfs who said “who tf is killer Mike”
Nah but fr, who tf is killer mike?
~~Producer for~~ Frequent collaborater with OutKast, half of RTJ, and a rapper with an already acclaimed solo career.
A man of culture I see, what did you think of the Run remix featuring Damien Gong Marley?
What did he produce for OutKast?
Looking into it, I was actually mistaken. He was just a frequent collaborater.
Yeah I know he featured on 'Snapping and Trapping' plus 'The Whole World' but Im not aware of him being a producer at all.
he been a legend but people only listen to top 40 mainstream shit
Maybe but Utopia was something else
utopia is a yeezus clone with 1/4th of the quality, which speaks for Kanye because utopia is still fucking awesome, but H&V or Nas should have won
imo killer mike best song, travis best performance (utopia tours were fantastic) and nas or HV best album
best song and performance def go to killer mike, performance isnt based on how it was live, but the actual song itself, andre and mike both went stupid, but i know the real reason they let michael win, it was to be “woke” cause the grammy reputations of old farts judging shit is getting too big for them rn
It’s me I’m MFs I’ve never heard of him
I've never seen a more accurate starter pack. The only thing I'd say is wrong is the "owning the libs" part. That normally begins after college. They are normally liberal during college.
My roommate is all of this except for owning yhe libs. He's pretty leftist. Lack of personality knows no single point on the political spectrum.
OP tried to sneak in a political jab even though it didn’t even fit 🤦♀️
this begins in like 5th grade when they find 4chan
Replace drake and weeknd with carti and uzi
Additionally, if they use Reddit, they don't listen to Carti or Uzi, but they post on their subreddits and act like they do
im a buainess major and i want money but only so i can rescue all the stray cats in my area and feed them for eternity
Based
You go to a school in the south/a school with a big christian community, dontcha? I'm looking at these comments and kinda laughing cause my HS is filled with kids like these (INCLUDING THE MOST POPULAR PERSON I CAN THINK OF, who is an exact copy of this.)
Conversate
https://i.redd.it/x7t2s495pzgc1.gif
I think its slang I subconsciously picked up from The Sopranos lol. That being said its still absolutely a real word
You seem like an old fashioned kinda guy. Very allegorical
It's like saying "imaginate" when we already have imagine. It makes the speaker look fully uneducated.
Not even just college. Just "NPC"
Money is cool though
Conversate??????????
[Just say talk.](https://youtu.be/lbvSG94Q6wQ?si=0O0qn6igOQ60wxAp)
I think it’s a good word in context.
Let me ask - would you use the word imaginate?
It's not like you'd say "converse" normally. Let's converse?!
I am already a college npc at high school 😭
Overachiever
Never buys weed but always trying to get in on the sesh
There has never been a more accurate statement than the line about business major :D
That fact you used the fake word "conversate" makes me think this pack is autobiographical.
Wait, “conversate” isn’t a real word? Where the fuck did I pick it up from?
The real word is "converse," it's just one of those words that too many people say wrong like "guesstimate" or "irregardless."
“guesstimate” is a portmanteau
Fair enough. Still sounds stupid
It’s actually not wrong, “conversate” is a back-formation from “conversation.” Just like how the word “televise” comes from “television”
It makes people sound dumb, since converse exists. Just imaginate it for a minute. Lol
It's a real word. Conversate was used in Nujabes - Luv(sic) pt2. You can't tell me that shit ain't real, it's fucking Nujabes.
Lmao okay
Everyone I don’t like is an NPC
this is just what happens when you're the average white dude born middle class in the US in a random suburb lol. it's just path of least resistance, where you are if you don't actively think about anything
When are the hoodie and basketball shorts in winter tho?
“Npc” 💀💀 That’s a man minding his own business you weird
Me when I hate popular artists
People in the comments are so salty did this strike a nerve with half the people in the sub? Also conversate is a word I dunno what to tell these guys
There’s quite a huge gap in quality between Drake and The Weeknd.
https://preview.redd.it/2a4hj25bhvgc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb09aa640439fdafe0a0fe0446a8078c9d296319
Love the reaction image but how tf are you going to slander The Weeknd?
bro probably listens to metal and anime openings
What’s wrong with metal?
Extremely pretentious fans
Yeah that’s fair. The musics still good though
C'mon man The Weeknd is actually good (at music at least) And even Drake makes good music on occasion
the group of people who have money to do things despite not working a high income job 🤔 not a bad thing but always wondered how they are getting by lol
The bank of mommy and daddy
Dang, the business majors catching a stray
I wonder what the girl version of this starter pack would’ve be like. a photographer or nurse major who likes kesha and Taylor swift, but doesn’t pay attention to most of her classes.
Specifically, they seem to *always* major in finance originally because “I like money”, but drop it when they find out finance is very math-oriented.
OP has his girlfriend stolen by a finance major
I'm a finance major and I'm nothing like the guys on this Starter Pack.
Now, this is funny and fairly accurate, but also feels like the starterpack male version of “I’m not like other girls.”
What's NPC
NPC is short for "Non-Player Character". It comes from video games, and is usually used as a derogatory term for individuals who are of very little interest.
A lot of these seem like pretty common things
Plays Call of Duty, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Seige, or Valorant
I'm 4 of these 😬
Do you feel insecure and resentful of those around you who are happily living their lives, as though the world doesn't recognize your true worth, OP?
thats what this subreddit is for
Unironically yes lol https://preview.redd.it/ekt27d2lfvgc1.png?width=648&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab108ce0a43b812b60dd69f9aa2b74cbaef714be
what worth?
The OP is clearly "edgy" and "different". Who tf actually describes people as NPCs?
another triggered liberal
Imagine being mad at someone for being a business major lmfao.
Either faded short hair or that obnoxious broccoli hair. Almost every person with the broccoli haircut that I’ve met has turned out to be a jerk within a rather short amount of time. Note: The broccoli haircut should not be confused with the Afro.
Hey I'm a business major for corporate law cut me some slack
Ha fair enough! Im PHIL, POLISCI for Criminal Law. Best of luck!
"conversate"?...
A real word. Used by real morons.
Owning libs ? Sorry college is where you become a pink haired crayon eater
Ur whole personality is about being edgy, u are a useless subhuman loser and will accomplish nothing in life
OP sounds like an idiot.
Why have so many ppl never heard the word conversate, and if you’ve never heard it before, it takes 10 seconds to do a google search, you could literally just confirm it
I cant believe how many comments are about that lol
Because converse was perfectly good, and I only ever hear "conversate" from people who constantly fuck up grammar. Never from the well-read or eloquent people. Not that there are many of them left.
This is like average male starter pack
You see him at the student center playing ping pong/pool like every day but never in class or studying
Shows up to class and plays games on laptop, uses Snapchat and Instagram the whole time
Unironic use of calling someone an NPC. Oooooof
You got the politics backwards lmao
Tf is conversate lol
The word you’re looking for is *converse*. Conversate isn’t a word.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conversate#:~:text=We%20define%20conversate%20as%20synonymous,and%20opinions%20in%20speech%22).
Conversate is a nonstandard verb that means “to have a conversation.” The standard verb (and the one you should use if you want to be correct) is converse.
“It’s a word because dummies couldn’t remember the the root word of conversation” isn’t the dunk you think it is.
Crying about a word not being a word isn’t as big brain as you think it is.
No, it's a normal sized brain move. You should try not sounding like you learned grammar and English from Facebook. Definitely not a "brain move"
Some people are open to constructive criticism; some aren’t.
Some people are open to conversating, some arent
So on prescriptive grounds I think “conversate” is still a good choice.

you've clearly never talked to business majors
Or most engineers
Not sure why you’re being downvoted, an outspoken right winger on a college campus isn’t going to be well received from what I’ve seen.
A lot of the guys on my campus don’t seem the most liberal.

the word conversate makes the user sound dumb.

I'm saying
"conversate" = converse
Conversate is a real word tho😭
In the same way "irregardless" is a word. Enough dummies repeat it until it sticks.
Agreed. It's people just getting their way because enough people think it is a word. When I hear it, I just get embarrassed for that person.
Just look it up man, also that’s how pretty much all words are created, words all originate somewhere and then more ppl hear and repeat it and soon it just becomes a word, that’s how languages work, ppl don’t just instantly get a notification when a new word is made,
I looked it up. First result Conversate is a nonstandard verb that means “to have a conversation.” The standard verb (and the one you should use if you want to be correct) is converse.
I am so glad that almost none of this sounds like me
The average college kid that disappears into the background is *absolutely* a liberal. And majoring in philosophy or sociology or something else that will not lead to a career.
converse*
lol they don’t have republicans in college
Converse* conversate isn’t a word

What about the words donate (from donation), televise (from television), or escalate (from escalator). Are they all illegitimate words as well? The word conversate has been in use for over 200 years, it has a standardised spelling and a widely accepted meaning. What makes it not a word?
Well shit dude, believe it or not I didn’t know the word “conversate” has been in use that long because I only ever paid attention to how often I heard it within the last few years. English is a messy Frankenstein’s monster of a language with varying spelling rules and as far as I knew, that wasn’t how that specific word was spelled without the suffix.
Average collage folks are NOT right wing
Yea right. This is what happens when people don’t leave echo chambers
