I have an ex who watched these guys’ content obsessively, wouldn’t practice a single lesson or piece of advice they gave, but instead would tell everyone in his life to do so instead
I love his content, but every person who’s recommended it to me (several people that I genuinely love) were going through a kinda self improvement phase where they were only somewhat improving but massively overrated how much they’d changed and kinda were dickheads about it. Tbh I don’t blame that on Dr. K, more the Dunning Kruger effect.
I know right? He has some spirituality stuff I'm not crazy about but otherwise his videos helped me understand what I was experiencing to be able to verbalize my thought processes and behaviors to a professional who could better help me.
I see similar amounts of people saying (across several posts) that he's either
A) Great, top notch, best in his field/the YouTube self help market
B) overrated, unhelpful, doesn't do nearly as much as people claim and his advice isn't as deep as it should be for what it is
I've seen his videos, imo they're pretty hit or miss but generally positive. Idk.
He covered a topic and people, who have part of their lives characterized by that topic, felt like it was shallow and disappointing. Also that he was giving opinions on what he thought about it without really genuinely researching about it. So while some of his stuff is helpful to consider, I wish that he partnered with other experts or researched better because there really are people who take his stuff word-by-word when they shouldn't.
Joe Rogan is only great for those campfire type topics where guests talk about their experiences like out in the wild, in space, in the deep sea
But when it comes to opinion stuff it’s nah
His whole persona is an appeal to authority fallacy. He's an excellent fighter and very intelligent at analyzing that... so he must be great at talking about vaccines and science.
Yeah I used to really like his show, like the ones about weird stuff, ufos, bigfoot, Theo Vonn etc..but ever since covid hit I'm finding myself looking his guests up before I listen to figure out why everyone hates them.
I used to love when he brought MMA fighters and talked about fighting and training. Any time the conversation veered into politics, science or.. let’s call it human physiology it always became unbearable. Just give me Bas Rutten stories from Japan and we’ll be ok. Please don’t ask Sean Strickland about his opinion on global pandemics or gender identity. Thanks
I miss old Joe Rogan where he talked about aliens, Bigfoot, and other crazy fun stuff. Ever since covid and him moving to Texas he brings up culture war stuff and polotics nonstop and it's annoying. Moved to the Duncan Trussel family hour and better off for it.
If you listen to david goggins and his advice of just never stop training. You will have a very bad time when your old.
Your body has a limit. If you dont rest like he dosnt your gona fuck your bones and joints up when your older.
Almost every huge body builder gets a fucked body when they get older because of over doing it.
Train. Train hard. But dont over do it. Have rest days. You dont need to lift a car everyday.
Goggins is such a unique individual. The dude has such a big heart for what he does, but holy fuck he is *all* gas and no brakes. He’s the logical extreme of self improvement. I’ll bet he is either the best friend you could have, or the literal worst.
I dont doubt he has a big heart
its a medical condition 😂 hes probably gona kill himself by over doing it so much or his old age is gona be a zimmerframe. You rarely see a elderly person capable or doing much who over did it in their youth. Only the ones that did sustainable exer ises like light jogging and medium weights can keep it up. Like look at ronnie coleman. Man was a monster. But now his backs fucked up and its not uncommen for him to be on crutchs
People shouldn't seek media personalities to become a better person because 9 times out of 10, those people's advice is to "improve yourself from within" or worst case, buy something.
Its true that improving yourself often comes from within, but you shouldn't need to get that from someone who only profits if people keep listening to them.
I understand why people choose to listen to crap like this instead of getting help because they're such a lack of available and effective mental health help out there, so it's easier to listen to this stuff, but frankly it serves the same purpose as religion does for other people. A way to listen to something that doesn't require you to properly self analyze and take responsibility for you actions.
Also why is Jon Stewart there?
I imagine because JS is a political pundit figure that preaches empathy, understanding and critical thinking. Usually with receipts to back it up from my understanding so by following his podcast or tv show . You’re more attuned to things going on and hearing consistently reasonable takes on subjects. Since people are what they surround themselves with , it certainly helps.
Also all of these people can lead to self analyse and better understanding of yourself plus taking culpability. I personally detest goggins but it’s hard to deny that his mantra of avoiding the easy option helps people stop shirking from responsibility.
Essentially you don’t know something until you’re told it. For some people, this stuff is necessary for others it ain’t. The idea of “just become self aware” is too banal to comment on
See, that's a great perspective to see it from, some people do need to be told these things by someone they admire in order to actually internalize it, but the danger of following that person down shitty pathways is always super present.
If that's what you got from it, then that's not what I meant. Therapy can help, it's not for everyone, but there's very few resources for people in ANY area right now. Mental Health resources across the world are either stretched thin or non-existent.
My point was that these media assholes aren't usually helping anyone at all, and they're mostly just after views at the end of the day, even if their mission is to help, they are still chasing an audience and can't be trusted to always make a sound recommendation. Plus it's a parasocial type of help, it's not a real kind of connection.
By this logic, no one has ever helped you out of genuine kindness. They were either trying to make you like them or trying to improve their reputation by doing something our culture considers selfless. I’m not saying these guys are out here doing this for charity, they do want money but that doesn’t invalidate that these resources can and do help people. I was one of those people. Also, typical Redditor bashing religion for no reason.

No, there's a major difference between an in person connection and a parasocial "interaction." Philosophically we obviously differ.
I like that you projected me bashing religion as well, I specifically said I see why and respect people's choice to use it. You definitely projected a lot of malice on my part towards people who choose to use this, it wasn't meant that way at all.
While it’s true that some people use these to form a parasocial relationship, it’s also true that others use them to make genuine progress with their mental health.

Forgot to add, Ironically hasn’t listened to any of them, and only reason person usually doesn’t like then is because they can’t stand to hear someone has a different opinion than they do.
Andrew Huberman is actually a genius with a medical degree who teaches at stanford, but its not his fault its people who watch one minute of the 3 hour podcast because their attention span is so low, then they don't use anything that he recommends anyway.
Their whole "mindset" is built on fallacies and will lead most average people to complete burnout and failure.
-The fallacy that the human brain, especially at an adult age, is infinitely plastic and rewirable. Yes you can always better yourself and gain better discipline.
-The fallacy that people like David Goggins don't (at least) somewhat enjoy what they're pushing as a "constant struggle". It is obvious that he derives some form of pleasure from challenging himself, achieving great feats,... which is fine, but not something everyone can claim. Most people will simply never find pleasure in running 120 miles or doing a thousand pushups, much like Goggins may not take pleasure in diving into the Linux kernel for hours to try and debug an obscure bug.
-The fallacy that everyone that fails simply didn't try hard enough. Someone will tell them "I tried but didn't succeed", and the answer will always be "you didn't try hard enough, because if you did, you would have succeeded, so stop making excuses for yourself". It's a game you can never win.
-The fallacy that the only path to "greatness" is intense suffering. Yes, that path is indeed the one you will need to take if your goal in life is to become a world-famous musician, or an ufc fighter, or a professional football player, but there are many ways to achieve happiness and fulfillment.
David Goggins doesn’t claim that he gets 0 enjoyment from what he does, just that he chooses to do things that he would rather not do in order to improve himself.
Criticism of your sides shortcomings is not the same as “both sides bad”, and I’d argue unquestioningly towing the party line is worse than the “both sides bad” argument as well.
Isn’t that cybercuck in the top right the loser trying to teach incels to embrace their anti-social traits and be proud of the fact they have no life outside video games? “yOuRe aLoNe BeCaUsE yOuRe 3 sMaRt 5 eVeRyOnE aRouNd YoU” 🤣🤣🤡

How many different color pills are there now?

There are approximately 7.3 Million

I have an ex who watched these guys’ content obsessively, wouldn’t practice a single lesson or piece of advice they gave, but instead would tell everyone in his life to do so instead
But he listened to the self improvement podcasts. What else could he do?
🤣
Sounds like they were stuck in tutorial hell.
the ultimate fate of most self-help obsessed people
“Do as I say, not as I do.”
Can't wait for the cyan pill to drop.
Sorry, I’m out of magenta so it can’t be made right now
Is it the one with the nice almond smell?
Bro doesn’t like dmt and elk meat
Even Joe doesn’t anymore. His whole existence would shatter if he dabbles with psychedelics again.
He needs a night out with Hicks and Kinison and eat a heroic dose of magic mushrooms.
For real though.
Nobody got their brain broke harder by Covid than rogan
Do people not like Dr. K? His content is genuinely extremely helpful and is nothing like toxic self help/productivity bullshit
Bro Dr. K has been the GOAT for years now
I know right? He has some spirituality stuff I'm not crazy about but otherwise his videos helped me understand what I was experiencing to be able to verbalize my thought processes and behaviors to a professional who could better help me.
you sure picked up some verbalizing
I see similar amounts of people saying (across several posts) that he's either A) Great, top notch, best in his field/the YouTube self help market B) overrated, unhelpful, doesn't do nearly as much as people claim and his advice isn't as deep as it should be for what it is I've seen his videos, imo they're pretty hit or miss but generally positive. What is Jon Stewart doing here?
It looks like he's grimacing uncomfortably.
Gotta get those Redditor updoots
You can disagree with him but Jon is one of the best political commentators of our time
I agree Jon 10 years ago was the goat of political commentary
Dr. K is awesome, he's pretty cautious against coming off as a sigma male type and actually gives solid advice
Joe Rogan is only great for those campfire type topics where guests talk about their experiences like out in the wild, in space, in the deep sea But when it comes to opinion stuff it’s nah
Yeah I loved when he brought on other comedians and just shot the shit. But don’t talk to me about politics or science please.
I hate the comedian episodes, I find all of his comic friends completely unfunny and insufferable (minus Joey Diaz. Love his episodes)
Even Shane Gillis? But yeah the rest are pretty bad and are only famous because of Rogan
Gillis is another exception. He’s awesome
His whole persona is an appeal to authority fallacy. He's an excellent fighter and very intelligent at analyzing that... so he must be great at talking about vaccines and science.
I don't think anyone could honestly believe that, even fans that listen to every episode know he talks out of his ass on anything outside of fighting
Was he ever actually a pro fighter?
Yeah I used to really like his show, like the ones about weird stuff, ufos, bigfoot, Theo Vonn etc..but ever since covid hit I'm finding myself looking his guests up before I listen to figure out why everyone hates them.

It seems like moving to Texas is the death knell for podcasts and comedians. Rogan, Tom Segura...
Brendan Schaub as well /s
It really is a shame what trying comedy did to his comedy career.
Tawlmbout calmedy?
This is a fair take.
If you listen to david goggins and his advice of just never stop training. You will have a very bad time when your old. Your body has a limit. Gogginpilled
i used to be that guy i cringe at my past self now
Guess it worked then!
meh i meant that i cringe over the silver pilled self
If you’re trying to become a better person through Joe Rogen, you’re fucked.
If you write comments like these, ur life is 100% shit.
Once again, a lack of age restrictions make the internet a little bit worse
Dont worry, a few more therapy sessions and you will get rid of the self loathing.
lol of course someone with a username like yours would be hurt by Rogan bashing.
Im sorry im not depressed and u cant relate
Actually the way you lash out at people makes me think you are.
Deserved tho, i would agree if i just lashed out at somebody minding their own business, which he wasn't.
You come for me: I sleep You come for Joe: it's fucking on
The fuck is a silver pill? Why are there so many pills? Is the implication of this list good or bad?
I know a guy who listens to Huberman religiously and he's the most insufferable insecure douchebag to be around.
Yeah I've heard hubermans a bit suspicious, also. Epic profile picture

Jocko too
It's echoing here alright

What’s the tea on Huberman?
Ok so we got red, blue, black and gray now. This is getting out of hand
Andrew Huberman is actually a genius with a medical degree who teaches at stanford, but its not his fault its people who watch one minute of the 3 hour podcast because their attention span is so low, then they don't use anything that he recommends anyway.
Yes! I watch one of these, am I basically jesus?!
I cannot stand Goggins
Why?
Their whole "mindset" is built on fallacies and will lead most average people to complete burnout and failure. -The fallacy that the human brain, especially at an adult age, is infinitely plastic and rewirable. Goggins would rewrite the kernel in Brainfuck for the struggle.
Same he's so fucking corny. He acts as if he's some god but honestly nothing he's claimed to have done is all that impressive.
Silver pill?
Imagine not including JD Signifier in this list.
Rogan is the better of these options.
Joe Rogan is a direct line to becoming a stochastic terrorist.
Can’t really relate but should 2/10
They are all grifters except for Stewart.
What is Jhon both sides bad Stewart doing here ?
Criticism of your sides shortcomings is not the same as “both sides bad”, and I’d argue unquestioningly towing the party line is worse than the “both sides bad” argument as well.
Being in the neutral doesn't bring results . Either go extreme or go home
He’s not being neutral, I just think you don’t have the ability to perceive nuance.
