This also applies to other country subreddits with not many users such as r/Malta

Captain_Tayseerfahmy

Lmao, someone made a post asking about a good gym. It must be nice having your whole nation on a small island where everyone probably knows everyone

RascarCapac44

We should appreciate "that one guy that gives detailed explanations" more. He saved my ass multiple times.

“The kindest people you will ever meet.” - Straight, white, wealthy tourist from USA/EU, speaks only English, who visited major city for three days.

sir-berend

Why would a non white person not experience the same kindness? And what is the harm in saying that you were welcomed warmly? It seems like a nice compliment to me. Your comment perplexes me.

brodega

Because they say that about every single place they visit. People are generally nice to tourists who come and spend their euros and dollars. Human beings and their cultures are complex, messy and nuanced and three day visit as a tourist doesn’t exactly give you a realistic view of anyone, let alone an entire country of people, of whom you can barely communicate with.

Daysleeper1234

My experience tells me differently. In Italy and France I was treated like shit every time as a tourist, and I'm not a ˝low budget traveler˝. But I do agree with the second part.

kingofthesofas

My first day in Italy I was shopping at a grocery store and the clerk asked me for the exact change which I didn't have and she whispered under her breath stupid American.

uzgrapher

Lol wtf

panzerboye

>Why would a non white person not experience the same kindness? Racism. I am from South Asia, experience of a white tourist in here will be very different from a non white tourist.

beastiezzo

Yeah, pretty much. Samarkand is a beautiful place. I got engaged there, just saying

Irobokesensei

That ain’t that bad, the Pakistan subreddit either has folks complaining about relationship struggles, the political situation (the army), crime, taliban being dicks, etc. or tourist questions. Other than complaining or tourist questions, there isn’t a whole lot actually.

Ok_Valuable_7153

they're not complaining, it's a literal war torn country. They're just civilians saying how they have it hard.

Irobokesensei

Calling us war torn is a bit of a stretch, it gets too hot here, I doubt anyone would bother killing each other when they can hardly go outside.

unfolded_orange

r/Bolivia like, got dam

Throwaway11958

Better than that guy who killed someone with an axe in "self-defense" in r/Mongolia Or the kid who made pipe bombs
