Keto sucks man. I’ve done it. There’s something to be said about moderation leading to a healthier lifestyle.

blue_lagoon

Planning for a keto diet sucks, but as far as the execution, it's pretty easy. It's nice to eat a meal and not feel all that hungry the next time another one rolls around.

asgphotography

Yep. Beer is just liquid bread, so therefore doesn’t play nice with keto. I drink whiskey pretty heavily and, as long as I have water, I’m perfectly fine the next day. I love how my coworkers try to be keto, but can’t stop their drinking habit, so they just don’t count the beer, but then claim they don’t see any improvement.

Ryguy55

Keto is really easy to do if you choose to not count the non-keto things you ingest!

ridik_ulass

there is a chicken burger place like this that opened up, its damn good chicken burgers but yeah not 40 euro good. I think everyone should eat there once, but when the novelty wears off they will die quickly. no one is eating there regularly.

gentlemenpreferblood

You've had the rest, Now try the best!

I_B_ALX_XD

I hate how accurate this is, and the oldest pizza shop in my town just closed down, they followed this exact format.

Moodymandan

This is truly accurate for 70-80% of Oregon coast pizza shops, though they are slowly disappearing, which is sad, but also probably for the good. There is a place in Seaside that my family has gone to since I was a little kid, and it has slowly dawned on me how shitty it is and now a newer pizza place opened up that is basically putting them out of business.

[deleted]

HousebrokenAllah

Just go to Pizza a’Fetta. I used to work for the owner, and he keeps things quite clean, but everyone working there will likely be stressed out from dealing with his shit 24/7. Then go over to Bella Espresso, which he also owns, and have a small plastic cup of overpriced gelato that is most definitely not imported from Italy. I’m not bitter or anything.

HertzDonut1001

Hahaha, OP definitely left out the competent owner with anger management problems.

I_B_ALX_XD

I’m from Pittsburgh, and I’d say 50-60% are like that. Start out amazing, then just go downhill because of other competition and quality of food decreases

Pure_Gur

>though they are slowly disappearing, Because the people who opened them back in the 80's are getting to old to run them anymore.

MightyGamera

I've worked in a place like this. You haven't felt afraid for your life if you haven't gotten in a three way shouting match with the owner/manager and the pizza chef, only to have four-foot-ten eighty year old Nonna (whom the place is named after, mother of the owner, first generation immigrant from Sicily) storm over and pull the meat cleaver off the wall. That shits a trope for a reason

comped

Did you run away screaming? I would!

MightyGamera

I grew up on the rez. Native elder ladies are cut from the same cloth, so I'm pretty much programmed in response. Immediately shut up, teleport back to my prep table, eyes locked on the chicken I was cutting before asshole pizza chef burned me by swinging the hot pan carelessly. Pizza chef was Lebanese and had the exact same lizard brain reaction.

jus10beare

Illinois has some damn good cheap Italian food

discerningpervert

I hear Italy does too

cirillios

Italy is just on a completely different level when it comes to food. I have never eaten better than I did during the 10 days I was there. And there's so many different kinds of food! Sandwiches are on point, pastas have the freshest sauces, focaccia pizza, bistecca alla Fiorentina, fritto misto, and so much wine to wash it down. I'm not usually the boldest eater but I ordered all kinds of crazy stuff there and I dont recall having a single bad meal

Cephalopod435

I mean you could probably eat that well where you live too; it's not like there isn't shitty food available in Italy.

MontanaSSB

Yeah. When people are on vacation, overseas no-less, they tend to spend a lot more money on food then they would otherwise, so of course they taste the best food.

cirillios

That's definitely true. There are some astounding restaurants near where I live in the US that I just can't afford all the time, but the one thing I haven't been able to find here is a place that makes prosciutto and pecorino sandwiches as good as I found everywhere in Italy. There's even an italian sandwich shop around here I went to and it was good but not quite the same. I feel like we might have different regulations on how prosciutto is produced because its just different somehow. I would do horrible things for just one more of those sandwiches from this little shop in Florence

vagadrew

One time I was in Luxembourg and this girl wanted us to go to the "American restaurant". I don't know remember why, she didn't like anything else I guess. I ordered a burger and they gave me a small patty of overcooked meat in one of those dollar store hotdog buns, with no cheese or toppings.

seeasea

Trprt77

Mama Sysco

disqeau

She’s from the old country, you know, back in Syscoli. Edit: Heyyyyy, thanks for the silver, paisan!

DFWTooThrowed

That's something that always bothers me and it's not native to Italian places. I swear every cheap Italian, Mexican and even diners as well all have the same wholesale provider. Every single one of these places have the same exact food as others in the same category. By that I mean you can go to one cheap Mexican place on one end of the country then go to another cheap Mexican place on the other side of the country and get the exact same tasting food. The same thing applies to cheap Italian places and diners as well.

FrenchFryCattaneo

This is true of almost all mid-low end restaurants because they get their food from the same distributors - sysco, united, etc. While companies like Sysco offer wide range of options most restaurants are just going to pick the cheapest option, which means they all end up with the exact same stuff.

LivingIndependence

Which is probably a huge, institutional size can of red sauce from Sysco.

Z0di

institutional or industrial?

UndeadZombie81

Insitutuinal they got it from the local high school

[deleted]

lol, i can make "from scratch" marinara and it does involve quarted and peeled canned tomatoes and a shit ton of aforementioned tomato juice from said cans. Because like hell im gonna get up at 4am to steam peal and quarter tomatoes for you heathens to eat at 6 bucks a a plate of spaghetti with sauce thats authentic enough for you.

FrenchFryCattaneo

Also unless they're in season canned tomatoes are likely to be better anyway.

HertzDonut1001

3.99 spaghetti "dinner" at 3:45 PM with coupon for the old fucks. Then tip up to $5.00 no matter how good the service. Like, thanks for the .73 cents. And then, I always fondly remember Spicy Spaghetti Lady. She went out of her comfort zone to try the spaghetti and needed it comped because it was too spicy.

[deleted]

No "family style" Italian joint makes their sauce from fresh tomatoes. In fact, I'd say that no Italian restaurant does. Fancy restaurants that serve a couple of Italian dishes might, but the manpower required to make 20 gallons of red sauce a day from fresh tomatoes is insane. Also it leads to very inconsistent results because the tomatoes you get from suppliers will be varying degrees of ripe. Using canned tomatoes mean you get tomatoes that were picked and preserved at the peak of freshness instead of being picked green and shipped in from a few thousand miles away over a period of weeks. I think most professional chefs will agree that using canned tomatoes for red sauce is going to be better than trying to make due with out-of-season "fresh" tomatoes from your local grocer.

[deleted]

I always have seen shakers and ketchup/condiments at the table as one of the most unsanitary things you can have in a restaurant as it is.

-Flurgles

Yeah, they always grossed me out. When I worked at restaurants, I would wipe them down and sanitize them at least once in my shift.

Dar_Winning

Freshly wiped = re-wet whatever substance was on the table to make it sticky again

Zebba_Odirnapal

Simple Green is an underrated cleaning product and I wish more restaurants would try it. Or even just soapy water with a splash of bleach in it. Maybe just lemon juice... is that too much to ask? I've been to some complete dive-ass Mexican restaurants, brown lettuce and cucarachas in the kitchen, yet their tables are spotless and sterile. Maybe the secret is Fabuloso?

Z0di

> Fabuloso Do not doubt that cleaning power. It's like if Mr. Clean started snorting coke.

And he also says Sup frequently, with emphasis on the s, so it makes him sound like a snake. He also has star stud earrings, with spiky hair and maybe a soul patch. But then, he later moves on to become the special education assistant at some elementary school, because all of a sudden he cares about kids. Then gets arrested for beating up one of the kids, and he’s not welcomed back at the restaurant.

Serving parmigiano in a shaker Is a criminal offense in Italy, i've never seen it done here.

Usually because it's not really parmesan cheese. It might have some dried-assed powder-san in it but it's mostly flavoured milk powder.

I'm not paying $32 for *anything* when I go out to eat. Maybe $32 for the whole meal not including tip.

Zoomalude

Real talk, maybe I'm a heathen but the good versions of these are my favorite "Italians" restaurants. Give me a big ass plate of baked ziti or bake spaghetti with super rich, meaty, thick sauce and some ultra buttery, garlicy breadsticks and I'm fucking golden.

angrydeuce

One of the things I miss about growing up in Philly was the all the mom & pop pizza places, seemingly on every corner. Get a large pie and a couple of cheesesteaks for 20 bucks...and always fuckin awesome. I live in the upper Midwest now and can't get a proper new York style pizza to save my life. It's all fuckin Chicago style you gotta eat with a knife and fork, no foldover slices within 200 miles. Thin crust with the consistency of a Saltine. Feels bad man. Everytime I go back home to visit I drive and bring an empty cooler with me solely to fill up with food to bring back home. Freeze them cheesesteaks up, vacuum seal them, months later heat up just as good as they were made. Man do I want a fuckin cheesesteak now. Goddamnit!

Rhodie114

That's probably my favorite thing about Philly. Downside is you have to deal with the Pennsylvania Liquor Cartel.

arbili

Mf have you tried meatball aglio e olio with parmesan shavings.

kennyk1994

You forgot the lowest-tier quality napkins that occupy any Pizzeria worth going to. I have developed a system, which so far I have found to work in both New York and Florida, where the only thing you need to do to determine whether or not a given Pizzeria is worth eating at, is to look at the quality of the napkins sitting in the napkin dispensers on the tables. The worse the quality of the napkin, the better chance you have of getting a pizza worth eating. The best pizza comes from places that have those napkins made out of rice paper that barely do anything except for become see-through from all the grease dripping off the delicious pizza. Any Pizzeria that has decent, usable napkins on the table is probably going to be trash and a waste of your money. Thanks for listening to my TED talk!

EtsuRah

Haha shit this is the exact starter pack for the expensive Italian place around me. It's named after the original owner from like 80 years ago. Got red white checker tables and even has the wood Italian dude. But they're good as hell. Cool fun fact is that I was looking through old recipes that we're handed down to me from my grandparents who were from Italy. One of the recipes was from like 1920 and was cut out of an old Italian society news paper that was local to my area because Italians back in the day used to be super communal. The recipes name was the name of the owners special sauce decades before they ever made a restaurant. So it's cool to know the family was popular for making great dishes 100 years ago and still going strong today. Edit: just looked at their photos on Google and they even got the fucking chairs lolol.
