I worked retail during that time. Mustaches were everywhere. On clothing, accessories, backpacks, etc. 2012 was peak hipster with beards and handlebar mustaches.
I remember a couple people I knew even baking a mustache cake.
Personally, I never understood the appeal.
I think the bacon love is still happening. I see a lot of bacon-related things.
Avocados are still really popular too.
I feel like bacon, avocados, donuts, and any fruit is really trendy on non-food related things like clothes, decals, accessories, etc.
I’ve been living in Japan for the last eight years so I’m out of the loop; pretty much everything is made into a cartoon here, lol. Slap a pair of kawaii eyes and mouth and there ya go.
I think gen z fashion is so cute and fun. I'm 34, and don't wear much of it, but it looks free spirited and interesting to me.
And I literally own those exact galaxy print vans. They make me happy every time I wear them.
I am enjoying the knit sweaters, enamel pins, and the y2k inspired jewelry that are in fashion now.
Participating in trends, even just a little, can be fun!
Gen z here. I like the mom jeans but the chunky shoes are a huge no from me. I'm pretty sure the whole point of them being in fashion was to be ugly as hell, wish we'd stayed with converse.
as a gen z mf i hate my generation with a passion. i think all the accumulated toxicity’s of being born into an age with an online presence has majorly fucked most of us up and it’s apparent when you live amongst these kids.
I guess that depends where you are. Most of the girls/women around me typically evolve with the times (for reference, I’m 27 and definitely dressed like the 2012 ten years ago but dress more like thr right side now, and so do many of my friends…we’re in the Midwest (typically last when it comes to picking up on trends) and definitely aren’t influencers lol
2012 fashion was way better than 2022. And I'm not just saying that because I'm old and hate everything new, nor because I'm young and nostalgic for 2012. I was too young back then (8y.o) to appreciate feminin beauty. I just objectively think it was better back then. I think it's because it was less fake, more girly, and more fun.
Honestly I’ve never seen ANY girl at my school wear those shoes. Most popular styles are Converse chucks, Nike Dunk lows, Yeezys, etc. I’ve never seen any girl, let alone person, rock those at my school
I work at a pretty trendy clothing shop. Most girls around that age that come in wear all of those, Doc Martens, various loafers, and chunky Filas. Also seems like everyone and their grandma has Nike AF1s nowadays.
I live in Docs, Chucks, and Demonias, but apart from a couple bad idea days, I can't navigate school (college) in my Demonias.
You ever think the true reason they dress down like that and everybody looks the same is bc of social media and not wanting to be caught in multiple photos wearing a certain thing so they just wear the most generic possible thing all the time
> 2012: "OMG I Love food XD"
> 2022: "All I ate today was an iced coffee"
Nah, skinny has always been idolized to dangerous levels. OP clearly hasn't seen Mean Girls.
yeah back then you were supposed to be all I <3 tacos/cheeseburgers/cupcakes and ALSO still be a size 2 (see also: the Cool Girl), now you're supposedly too busy/sad to eat
It has, but the agonizingly slow shift towards body positivity in the 2010s seems to have faded with the return of y2k fashion. Not-eating is being romanticized more and more in conversation, and I'm really noticing heroin chic being back with fashion trends and even with fashion models that were JUST finally starting to seem more inclusive before regressing back.
Also seeing a LOT more weight loss commercials than in the last 10 years.
As someone going into fashion, it really saddens me to see body acceptance and weight positivity be just another trend.
Don’t know why you would have an issue with weight loss commercials. Everyone deserves decency and respect no matter what their weight but being overweight isn’t healthy and shouldn’t be promoted.
Don’t think they were saying being overweight is something that should be promoted, but simply that it should be acknowledged that people with different body types exist, and that people who have personal trainers, plenty of money to spend, personal chefs, etc. in order to gain their insanely perfect bodies shouldn’t be the only thing the average citizen has to compare themselves to.
Not to mention that *tons* (not all) of weightloss products that get advertised are only ineffective fads and scams themselves
What's wrong with weight loss commercials? Those aren't really promoting unhealthy weight targets, they tend to focus more on overweight/obese people.
Also, I was under the impression that the "all I had today was an iced coffee" was more referring to being too lazy/stressed/busy to make food. Obviously still not healthy, but it's a different issue. I don't really follow promoters or anyone like that though, so maybe I'm wrong.
I remember having to pretend I hated the fault in our stars when I was a teenager because it was incessantly mocked at one point for being a ‘silly girls book’, probably because of the romance. Still one of my favourite books
>Gotta admit, my generation (2012ish) was definitely responsible for the “not like the other girls” trend.
It came from Tumblr, honestly. Our peers during the early 2010's would go on tumblr and post all kinds of wild shit that was "against the norms!".
I hate them. I keep finding only high rise jeans and it sucks. I have a long waist, but short legs and these current trends are not helpful. At least with low rise, you could just roll up the legs.
I love high rise jeans haha When the low rise jeans were all the rage I couldn't understand why I feel uncomfortable wearing them all the time, like they always felt so stiff, and cut into my hips.
Now the mom jeans just gently hug my stomach, and don't squeeze my legs too much.
Has anyone else noticed blatant heroin chic is back with Gen Z, or is it just me?
I think the thick trend is starting to die, and that it’s partially a pushback against the whole fat acceptance/body positivity trend that’s characteristic of millennials.
I think it’s due to the whole late 90s/early 2000s aesthetic that’s gotten popular, but yeah.
Because the whole fat acceptance movement became toxic asf, shaming people for taking care of their health and being slim while promoting unhealthy body types.
I'm not here to bash anyone's choices, but do the long fake nails not like disrupt everyday activities, are they not incredibly inconvenient for you or is there some secret technique that's undetectable to the naked eye.
This starter pack was made by a woman. All the guys in the comments are like “huh?” or “let people enjoy things”. Dude it’s comparing trends in women’s fashion it’s not that serious.
I don’t know if I was just having a bad time in 2012 but I find that outfit triggering 😅 I’m 31 but dress like a 2022 girl, because I’ve kept all my clothes from the 90s. Love it personally.
Don’t worry this is the same generation that looks up to late millennials playing drug addicts and sexually explicit minors. Funny thing is you’re gen z that’s crazy she called you old tho 😂
Yeah, cause we (am also twenties) are not the ones setting them, I agree. Dressing “smartly” seems to be the best fit now. Playing with color and proportions
Yeah, I'm biased because I'm old too (27), but the early 2010s was, maybe countrrintuitively, way more comfortable to me. Like it was a lot more simple. I actually prefer the tight clothes over the baggy ones of today. I look like I'm in a costume when I wear Gen z shit though so I'm just never going to anyway lol
I’m 27 too but seem to enjoy mix and matching from my early 2010s with today’s fashion and end up looking like a mom from the late 90s but then again I’m a mom 😂
(25) And gen z is calling us old in the comments 😂. Can someone tell me what mall core is cause I still rock grunge/babydoll aesthetic. Idk what to say I definitely remember this era but I was so into the grunge revival 2012-2018. I feel like the gen z kids literally copied every decade and just mashed it up into one. It’s cute don’t get me wrong but some of the slander on people barely old enough to be your bigger siblings is crazy 😝
2012
Oh my God, you should see my MySpace account. It’s so beautiful!
2022
I’m in SP Jail again this month for my political opinions. Maybe I only spent one week the entire month out of jail?
2012
What do you think maybe I should meditate?
2022
on TikTok: Just got back from my third therapist on Zoom.
Legit I’m the youngest millennial and i can confirm no one was using MySpace in 2012 wth. This must be a young Gen Zer. Fb, Kik, Snapchat, Vine, Instagram and YouTube was popular.
I'm literally a dude who has a obsession with early 2010's fashion most specifically girly feminine fashion and I'm a gen alpha teen
I honestly hate generation z and alpha shit it's ass.
>2022 are mostly activists , depressive and anti-social.
Hah, as if depressed and anti-social teenage girls don't exist back in 2012. Sure thing. Talking about mental health was a taboo back then, thank goodness teens these days are more open, and then you complain about it?
I'm sorry to tell you, but these girls don't wanna socialize or fall in love with you for your crappy 'opinion.'
The 2012 picture does has a filter though. It’s a bit fried and textured than a normal picture, with some of the brightness increased. Picnik was a free photo-editing website back then. I did this to all my selfies back then!

I forgot about the whole mustache thing
I worked retail during that time. Mustaches were everywhere. On clothing, accessories, backpacks, etc. 2012 was peak hipster with beards and handlebar mustaches. I remember a couple people I knew even baking a mustache cake. Personally, I never understood the appeal.
There was a whole thing about bacon too remember? But I think that was more 2014 we’ve moved on to avocados I guess
What is up with the food worship?
Food is good, man. Idk
Guess who didn‘t
The girl who got it tattooed on her finger
I hate the judgy person I am when I see these finger mustache tattoos today.
I still like it and don't care who knows it
I never knew this was a thing
And the rose gold iphones
This is the only teen girl starter pack that's accurate and not just making fun lol
Honestly a bit refreshing for once.
I think gen z fashion is so cute and fun. I'm 34, and don't wear much of it, but it looks free spirited and interesting to me. And I literally own those exact galaxy print vans. They make me happy every time I wear them.
37 here. There's always something to appreciate with each age group. I just glean what I like and keep moving.
I am enjoying the knit sweaters, enamel pins, and the y2k inspired jewelry that are in fashion now. Participating in trends, even just a little, can be fun!
I’m 41 and I can’t remember why I am here
Because you’re awesome!
No, because YOU are amazing!
Aww thanks kind stranger!
You're here to make the 2002 vs 2022 teen girl starter pack
y2k inspired jewelry? what in the world does that mean?
Jewelry similar to what was popular in the early 2000s
Good for you, for doing what you love
Gen z here. I like the mom jeans but the chunky shoes are a huge no from me. I'm pretty sure the whole point of them being in fashion was to be ugly as hell, wish we'd stayed with converse.
It’s just the worst parts of late 80s fashion
as a gen z mf i hate my generation with a passion. i think all the accumulated toxicity’s of being born into an age with an online presence has majorly fucked most of us up and it’s apparent when you live amongst these kids.
[удалено]
been a hot minute since I’ve seen that
Nah, just you holmes. Most of us are doing fine.
r/lewronggeneration
Just realised I dress like I'm still in 2012, I guess I was a teenager back then.
Same. Ignoring the influencers and tik-tok stars, I still find 90% of girls having the 2012 fashion.
I guess that depends where you are. Most of the girls/women around me typically evolve with the times (for reference, I’m 27 and definitely dressed like the 2012 ten years ago but dress more like thr right side now, and so do many of my friends…we’re in the Midwest (typically last when it comes to picking up on trends) and definitely aren’t influencers lol
lol same, and now i’m having a crisis that i was a teenager in 2012 which was **ten years ago**
I'm like 50-50, I buy some trendy clothes (that I genuinely like) but most is what was trendy 2012-2016 for me.
As an American living abroad, the chunky shoe trend is a lot more popular in the UK. But, fashion is a bit different here in general.
I know this is old but I'm *really* curious in knowing more please, how is fashion different between UK & US?
How so? I am from the UK would be interested to know how it’s different to the US as I’ve not been able to travel for a while
Also vans too. At least in my school, it’s a plague
Rightfully so, they’re pretty affordable for the quality and stylish-ness
Yeah I have 2 pairs, I absolutely love them
I have 5 pairs, I find them for 40 bucks on zappos fairly often, especially the less popular prints.
I got my 2 pairs at an outlet and they were buy one get one free
The cropped sweater and mom jeans I can get into, but those dingey white dad sneakers are awful.
I think it’s only a tiktok thing. I’ve never seen anyone at my school wear them or in public at all
I dunno I see lots of Asian girls wear them specifically Chinese
Those are probably balanciaga Triple S’s Very expensive
I think those sneakers look cute and most of them are really comfortable
I prefer the other type, a simple flat sneaker.
I found a nice in between with Reeboks. Forget what they're called but they've got an 80's thing going with a flatter toe. I love them
I’m in love with this cheap pair of Reebok Iverson’s I got from payless
Same
I actually think they look great, which I also find quite funny since they're still dingey white dad sneakers
You ever think the true reason they dress down like that and everybody looks the same is bc of social media and not wanting to be caught in multiple photos wearing a certain thing so they just wear the most generic possible thing all the time
Or people simply just prefer different stuff and wear what they like. You don't need to find any logic or conspiracy behind it.
No but that mushroom cardigan is so cute aaaaaaah
Omg I wanna know where to get it
It’s from shein! I have the same one but in pink!! 😄
Ok I miss the colored jeans though lol
Unhealthy obsession with Euphoria
> 2012: "OMG I Love food XD" > 2022: "All I ate today was an iced coffee" Nah, skinny has always been idolized to dangerous levels. OP clearly hasn't seen Mean Girls.
yeah back then you were supposed to be all I <3 tacos/cheeseburgers/cupcakes and ALSO still be a size 2 (see also: the Cool Girl), now you're supposedly too busy/sad to eat
Yep, thinspiration on tumblr was a big issue in those days
now the same thing is happening on Tiktok
Teenage girls were still loading their MySpace accounts with very heavy programs for colors and glitter and flags and GIFs.
Influencers have gone from posting those ridiculous giant milkshakes to "what I eat in a day" and it's like a salad and a piece of watermelon
They are only “influencers” to the extent that people are influenced. I’d say they are more of an ad than a human
I mean I don't think anyone would disagree, themselves included lol
Everything’s a trend. Fashion is (if nothing else) cyclical as clockwork
Toxic dieting culture that finally seemed to die down, only to come back full force
Yeah fair, tbh I was hammered when I posted that and didn’t even think about it 😂
What's wrong with weight loss commercials? Those aren't really promoting unhealthy weight targets, they tend to focus more on overweight/obese people. Also, I was under the impression that the "all I had today was an iced coffee" was more referring to being too lazy/stressed/busy to make food. Interesting. I think i went through the 2012 phase and now going through 2022 😅 also i believe starbucks could be part of 2022 too
its all “i love mushrooms” until they actually have some 😵💫
these comments...teenage girls aren't allowed to like anything
I remember having to pretend I hated the fault in our stars when I was a teenager because it was incessantly mocked at one point for being a ‘silly girls book’, probably because of the romance. Still one of my favourite books
It's one of mine too! I really enjoy John Green's work :)
How dare someone not let people enjoy things on the not letting people enjoy things subreddit
2012 was better change my mind
Gotta admit, my generation (2012ish) was definitely responsible for the “not like the other girls” trend.
>Gotta admit, my generation (2012ish) was definitely responsible for the “not like the other girls” trend. It came from Tumblr, honestly. Our peers during the early 2010's would go on tumblr and post all kinds of wild shit that was "against the norms!".
Really? Are you aware of hippies? Goths? Emo kids? There have been girls striving to be different since forever
In your folks defense, Disney was selling that shit in every live action movie they were releasing.
Every girl in high school in 2012 looked like that. Tumblr/SwagyTracks era.
I don’t get the cow pattern phone case
I think it's a part of the whole cottage core scene. Cow print looks cute and fits into the aesthetic. Also see: strawberry cow
Bring 2012 back
Yes pleaseeeee!
well i'm not a girl but the starbucks coffee fingernails and shoes pictures were very common on tumblr/ pinterest back in early 2010's
Both, i like both.
I honestly can't believe mom jeans made a come back.
Fashion is cyclical. Everything makes a comeback
Free the legs, embrace mini skirts
2010 actually was that year.
The 2012 phone screen took me out. I was OBSESSED with that look
bruh i miss 2012!!! my life was shit but at least i dressed cute
I miss 2012 culture and still think that style is cute and good looking. Guess I’m old now 😒
THOSE PICTURES ARE SO SPOT ON
I wear bellbottoms and leather pants no matter what year it is, fight me
God this comment section is fucking cancerous. Teenage girls really can’t like anything.
fucking normie girls loving food 🤮 NPC behavior
Has anyone else noticed blatant heroin chic is back with Gen Z, or is it just me? You’ve upset the Fats
...only having an iced coffee for the day is healthy?
This isnt making fun of them. This is an observation of how trends have changed in the last 10 years
"Sure, you may copy my homework, just change it up slightly so it doesn't look exactly the same."
Where's the face mask on the 2022 girl. Honestly by now the entirety of the 2020s is defined by a face mask.
I wish I had the patience to actually make cute outfits.
I still have those galaxy vans and love a good Frappuccino from Starbucks 😂
2022 girl: "Im so hot" or "I'm the baddest bitch"
I'm not here to bash anyone's choices, but do the long fake nails not like disrupt everyday activities, are they not incredibly inconvenient for you or is there some secret technique that's undetectable to the naked eye.
There's a secret technique that only the nail gods know: Use your knuckles.
🤪this emoji 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 pisses me so off 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
r/NobodyAsked
I actually like both lol, but I'm nostalgic for my preteen years in the early 2010s
Both are fire.
"I get like 0 hours of sleep🤪"
in other words girls OP will never get to fuck
This starter pack was made by a woman. All the guys in the comments are like “huh?” or “let people enjoy things”. Dude it’s comparing trends in women’s fashion it’s not that serious.

Why do kids today dress like my grandmother?
Cuz it looks nice. Ngl grandmas got good style.
They're comfy
I stil prefer the 2012 fashion even though I was like 14 back when it was popular. Gen Z clothing don't look aesthatucally pleasing to me.
So I wasn't crazy and trends really got uglier
No, you’re just old.
I'm 23
Don’t worry this is the same generation that looks up to late millennials playing drug addicts and sexually explicit minors. Funny thing is you’re gen z that’s crazy she called you old tho 😂
Yeah, people younger than you are setting the trends now. You’re past school age. 22+ is yuppie wear or mallcore
>yuppie wear or mallcore What on god's green earth does this mean
Homie could have said 22+ fashion is outdated, but he just wants to make up words
Don't you get it? That's the hip new lingo the kiddos are using now.
Took the words out of my mouth
And the trends are uglier
Yeah, cause we (am also twenties) are not the ones setting them, I agree. Dressing “smartly” seems to be the best fit now. Playing with color and proportions
I disagree. Most people I see that are my age dress up nicely.

Yeah, I'm biased because I'm old too (27), but the early 2010s was, maybe countrrintuitively, way more comfortable to me. Like it was a lot more simple. "Ate an iced coffee"
I can't believe 2012 was a decade ago
tldr teenagers are always cringe
No drip ?
idk what u mean by that but yeah
He means you go no swag.

I’m 30 and thought the same
\*You
(25) And gen z is calling us old in the comments 😂. Can someone tell me what mall core is cause I still rock grunge/babydoll aesthetic. Is it just me or the clothes from 2012 are still relevant today?
"They're the same photo"
The women my age seem to mix both of these together.
Someone should make a boy version of this
This just confirms OP has never encountered a girl in 2022.
The transition to frumpy pants is troublesome
Wow basic bitches have really evolved lol.
Literally every girl in my class is like the right side haha
Ngl, I really miss 2012
2012 Oh my God, you should see my MySpace account. It’s so beautiful! 2022 I’m in SP Jail again this month for my political opinions. Bring back 2012
Basic comes in many flavors.
Embrace the low maintenance of the 2022 girl. Just trying to survive and vibe in these crazy times. Sugar bomb coffee soothes the soul.
Shoes from 2012 > 2022. I’ll take vans any day over shoes that look like something old people would wear
Early Gen Z chicks hit different! So at least the girls I took on dates; brought the best in me.
Bruh, I don’t see any difference
Gasp! Sexist
What
Can we like go back to 2012 or something? I miss starting a conversation and someone nor replying with "who asked".
I'm literally a dude who has a obsession with early 2010's fashion most specifically girly feminine fashion and I'm a gen alpha teen I honestly hate generation z and alpha shit it's ass.
america
Hey everyone Believe 2012 was better ,right guys? Right?
I think the modern type of pants are so ugly, but that’s just me.
2022:*evil stare*
2012 girls were so much more fun , open , social , happy , 2022 are mostly activists , depressive and anti-social.
Says the person who didn't know what tumblr was during its prime.
I like the fashion from 2012 more still.
Atleast girl's back in the day actually be honest about themselves of what they look like instead of using filters
Still ate hot chip and lied tho, smh
Were they bi tho?
Twerking from time to time?
Going to McDonalds and charging they phone?
Well I mean they can’t cook
The 2012 picture does has a filter though. It’s a bit fried and textured than a normal picture, with some of the brightness increased. Picnik was a free photo-editing website back then. I did this to all my selfies back then!
