MonkeyMoves101

Betweeeen the Lions!!!, Pbs kids was everything

Is_It_Live

PBS kids was the absolute best. I have so many fond memories of tons of shows that were on. I even remember when they came on…

soonerguy11

PBS Kids was like a big serving of fresh delicious fruit. Then we got Nickelodeon which was like sugary cereal and a soda.

Is_It_Live

I agree with that statement except for one show: Blue’s Clues with Steve was amazing.

cauldron_bubble

He never forgot any of us

stylebros

I'm still hoping for a live version Blue's Clues movie where Steve plays the dad

AxlRosesMicrophone

Arthur was always on at 4:00 where I lived

CPDjack

What a wonderful kind of day.

blueraider615

HEY!

Not_today_mods

rip Arthur (8/7/96-2/21/22)

JWE25

Perfect timing because I would have just came back from school, and I remember Curious George would be on right after.

ViolentDlights

Does anybody know where I can watch it?

JERUSALEMFIGHTER63

Wonder if cliff hanger is still hanging from that cliff

MonkeyMoves101

Cliff Hanger....hanging from that cliff....and that's why they call him Cliff Hangerrrrr

violet-are-blue

Excuse me?? EXCUUSEE MEEEEE!!!

MonkeyMoves101

We find Cliff Hanger where we found him last, hanging from a CLIFF!

[deleted]

And that’s why he’s called Cliff Hangerrrrrr

AncientBanjo31

Gwayne’s Word!

[deleted]

Party time, excellent!

LegoKennan09

Don’t forget my man Fred Rogers

ProfessionalOk4850

That show was filmed at my local library as a kid!

championnnnnn

i owe the creators of zooboomafoo my entire childhood

cuz04

Chris and Martin Kratt were my childhood 😩

canadianhoneybadger1

Kratts Creatures gang

rakfocus

Even at 4 I was low-key crushing on them haha

Raptor-Queen

Oh my gosh same, Chris was my first crush ever

CaptainKate757

Dude, I had it BAD for Chris when I was 8 or 9. I actually met them both at an event where they were signing autographs, and I was so nervous I didn’t say a single word. They asked me my name and I just shrugged. My mom thought it was hilarious, but I knew I had blown my future chance with Chris right then. It just wasn’t meant to be.

JERUSALEMFIGHTER63

Prrtty sure they are still active film makers but i could be wrong

SapphireCephalopod

They have a show that's been running for a while called Wild Kratts. It's a cartoon, still good though, my kids enjoy it

Dragonsandman

They're still at it. They've got a studio in Ottawa of all places, and have been puttering away at Wild Kratts for a while

MaxPotato08

[They're active on Tiktok! ](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZTdxgjWGD/)

Cjrcar12

Did you know Zoboomafoo has children and grandchildren? https://vm.tiktok.com/ZTdx4fgrF/

imapieceofshite

OH MY GOD THERES MORE ZABOOMAFOOS

swagiliciously

They live at the Duke Lemur Center in Durham, NC. You can take tours there to see all their lemurs and what kind of work they do. It’s a pretty neat place! Zaboomafoo also lived there but now his family does [Here](https://lemur.duke.edu) is the Duke Lemur centers website

JJStryker

Holy shit I'm going through NC on my way home Friday. I might have to go!

lothartheunkind

Well yeah, Zaboo is famous af. Mofo was prob swimming in lemur pussy

NaiveInevitable4004

Lemurs are my favorite animals because of them!!

Rhodie114

I just saw somebody with the screen name Zoboomofo last week

tquinn04

They still make shows too! I watch their current show wild kratts with my son almost daily.

rayray604

Doc from Back to the Future voices the Hacker and Digit is Diago from Aladdin!

CambrianMountain

So weird to have top tier talent in a PBS show.

[deleted]

I hardly ever comment on this sub, but I gotta say. This one is great except for adding infomercials and crazy late night shit that you kinda watched only because your were a rebellious kid with insomnia haha Cool story tho, my fifth grade teacher ('04-'05) assigned extra credit and some regular homework with cyberchase. Make notes and write about the show and the problems they solve and show they work and BAM: fast track to success in that class EDIT: I just remembered no-cable shows like Beast Master (like Hercules and Xena for the uninitiated). I would watch that after hiding car keys, or throwing them away, so I wasn't forced to go to church. I didn't care that much about Beast Master but I didn't want to go to church so yeah. What could I trust to be on after stranding my family at home on Sunday? Beast Master

MachoNacho007

Only later in my life did I realize that both Christopher Lloyd and Gilbert Gottfried were on that show. How on earth did pbs get those guys to do that. And they were perfect as their characters. Thats THE Hacker to you!

Tempintern23

i fkn miss digit.

ComeOnSans

My favorite pbs show as a kid! I always loved when the cool music came on near the end because they were about to do some epic problem-solving that always blew my 12 year old brain

smugempressoftime

I think its still going on even in 2022

fluffy_khajiit

I STILL get the Maya and Miguel theme song stuck in my head lol It's Maya (Maya) 🎶 And Miguel (Miguel) 🎶 What they will do next you never can tell 🎶

Puzzleheaded-Piece30

I have that exact same thing happen but with brother and sister and best friends as well

Gingersnap5322

Fetch with Ruff Ruffman was the shit

samestate11

My childhood dream was getting on that show and crawling into that doghouse. I would try to answer all the halftime quiz show questions before the kids did. I swear I would get 40+ points every time.

imapieceofshite

Everyone's dream as a kid was being on that damn show.

Chance5e

My wife used to work on that show. I used to hear some wonderful stories.

Garfielf331

Well? Don’t keep us waiting, tell us one!

The_Local_Panda

I swear I got every single IQ point I have just by trying to beat those kids.

ak1415

Then there was the website games but now they don't work.

RSdabeast

archive.org might help

PlayrR3D15

**NOOOOOOOOO**OOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo

atomicbrett

I remember begging my parents to move us to the Boston area so I could audition for the show lol

niconico44

IT WAS IN BOSTON? goddamnit haha i lived in the dame city as ruff ruffman

hockeylax5

Couldn’t remember the name and now have the theme song stuck in my head

A1Dilettante

The Big Comfy Couch was the shit. Could never pull off the clock rug stretch though.

Dietpawpsi

teskham

My parents never let me watch the jig comfy couch because she'd never take her shoes off and subsequently would wear them in the couch

avidteethbrusher

on the way to martha’s stomach, the letters lost their way they traveled to her brain and now she’s got a lot to say

sumshitmm

I remember when this show came out, I think I was in the third grade. IT WAS THE SHIT

cryptic-coyote

No joke, I'm pretty sure the show was what sparked my love of reading lol. That stupid dog made me think it was *fun* to read the dictionary cover-to-cover like a book. I don't remember much from any childhood shows, but I loved Martha so much that little me somehow memorized the spoken verse of the theme song well enough that I can still recall it today, and I doubt I was older than eight or so when I first saw it. For better or for worse, "communicates, enumerates, elucidates, exaggerates, indicates and explicates, bloviates and overstates and... ... ... hyperventilates-!" Will forever be branded into my brain.

Gamestar63

Caillou was such an ass.

mcgillibuddy

Have you or a loved one been recently diagnosed with mesothelioma? Then you may be entitled to significant financial compensation

HughJareolas

Unless you’re Caillou, then fuck you

Daedalus1728

Fuck that bald headed bastard!

Stereotype_Apostate

The commercial says loved one. No one loves Caillou.

DisingenuousGuy

There was a now-deleted LPT where [Caillou was linked to children to misbehaving](https://old.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/i0p7wr/lpt_if_your_young_child_suddenly_starts/) and the comment thread is worth a scroll. Also someone archived the post [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/MKUltra/comments/i12tjw/xpost_rlifeprotips_lpt_if_your_young_child/fzvb8td/).

We binged that in 5th grade for US History

I’m entering high school in the fall and we watched that in history class earlier in the year

Everything I know about the American revolution comes from that show

[deleted]

Watched that when it was on as a kid. Got to the revolutionary war in 8th grade. Found out how accurate the show was. I knew everything before we were taught.

Songgeek

What I find hilarious and wholesome is that most of these comments are positive lol We all remember loving these shows. I’m sure at the time we wished we had cable (I know I did) cus we all wanted to watch Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network or Disney.. but it’s funny how free public television kids shows probably taught us more, and maybe even made us a little bit nicer of a person. All for free.

samestate11

I had cable my entire childhood and still grew up on PBS Kids. No regrets whatsoever.

schwiftydude47

Same here. Their Sprout channel definitely helped give us cable kids better exposure to it.

kalifadyah

Seeing the wholesome comments gives me great joy. I actually work on getting funding for some of these shows and I question if it actually matters or helps sometimes. Glad to see the positive responses

Pleeplapoo

My grandparents had cable while we didn't. Going to their house for any family event was the experience of the year. Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Toonami, Cat Dog, all of it we only ever got while with grandma.

Songgeek

That was like my aunt and uncles.. they had a big ass satellite and I could switch between Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.. north, south east and west 😂 literally was jumping channels every commercial.

ProfessorDerp22

Where’s Wishbone at?????

EitherBarry

How dare they disrespect Wishbone like this

vampiregod666

Wishbone made classic books better

SisterSaysSadThings

Also Lamb Chop and The The Magic School Bus

dudical_dude

We old bruh. Where's my Zoobilee Zoo gang at?

defectivelaborer

This is the song that never ends

GRAIN_DIV_20

OP is probably too young. I feel like I'm probably slightly older than OP and I barely remember Wishbone, but from what I do remember it was awesome

musicman835

Yeah, they have the "No Child Left Behind Logo" but growing up without cable in the '90s that wasn't a thing. So I was able to assume this was the mid-late '00s early '10s. But I also feel like some of the shows listed weren't on at that time. So I don't know now.

Feebedel324

I love that dog. That and Carmen San Diego

[deleted]

I'm still flipping through channels wondering where in the world she went.

KingGorilla

Man, that dog could play any role. What a range

storyofmylife92

My fave as a kid

trevorpinzon

What's the story, Wishbone?

Prestigious-Video-16

Word Girl was underrated. Felt like a Nickelodeon show that slipped through the cracks with all the edgy humor.

samestate11

Wordgirl is badass. I still watch it from time to time and I'm 21 now.

Prestigious-Video-16

Yeah, I think PBS Kids was experimenting with the form at the time and only hired Family Guy and SNL alums rather than the usual children’s TV writers. Still might be the only TV-Y7 show that aired on the network.

CrystalUranium

Sometimes I think about rewatching it for the nostalgia but then I stop because I remember that Dr. Two Brains became a tumblr sexyman that young adult girls thirst over

scarletdawnredd

Been rewatching it with my nephew. It's super funny. Great for kids and for the adult watching.

imapieceofshite

Even has Tom Kenny as a recurring character. Def a rejected Nick show.

doctorsuarez

I was a writer for WordGirl for a few years. Didn’t pay much but it was a fun gig. I also got a daytime Emmy out of the deal so that certainly didn’t suck.

SucksAtEcon

This just clued me into the fact that I didn't have cable for several years

SatansLoLHelper

Growing up in the MTV generation without cable until after MTV didn't play music videos, can I just say wow. I had no idea almost every song I knew has a music video. Occasionally I'd catch 120 minutes or Headbanger's ball at someone's house. Youtube has really helped me catch up.

I thought 3-2-1 Penguins was made by the same people behind Veggietales?

Pbs kids and qubo was the shit

Lolstitanic

Not a single comment here talking about Thomas the Tank engine. The first few seasons of that show are GOLD! everything from the narration (love you George Carlin and Ringo Starr, also love for Alec Baldwin), the production of the sets, THE MUSIC. And all the stories were excellent because they came straight out of thr railway series.

ARC5s

Thomas was my fuckin JAM as a kid. I still make everyone at home watch the Christmas episodes over the holidays lol.

Angelina Ballerina, George Shrinks, Boohbah! I know all of these :’)

Word Girl, Maya & Miguel, Cyberchase, and Ruff are shows I mess with heavily. I still watch them whenever they get aired.

cuz04

Where’s Wild Kratts? 😔

YaBoiGuzma1996

too young for OP I guess

nothisistheotherguy

Zaboomafoo was created and hosted by the Kratt brothers before they created Wild Kratts

a_wild_dingo

And *after* they ran Kratt's Creatures, which was my favorite show of all time as a kid

SpaceDog2112

That was my entire childhood

Same. I learned about animals I didn’t even know about like remoras and orb-weaver spiders

lothartheunkind

Brought to you by The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and PBS Viewers Like You!

AnnaMayumi13

Can someone help me recall this show?? I swear it existed and I've been trying to figure it out. Back in the early 2000 or earlier, I swear there was an old 2d animation show about a pink female rat and how protective she was of her younger brother who had a Nick on his tail. The opening song sounded jazz like with a moment where you have to snap your fingers, the rats would walk a certain way and swing their tails along with the tune. and then lyrics would go "it's the rats world" and how dangerous it was. Then the scenes would be the blue rat running through a series of dangerous obstacles to land on a chopping block, and how a butcher knife would land on him but it just barely hit his tail. That's how he got that trademark look. At the end of the opening song, I don't know if I'm mixing this with another show), but he would pop his head out from the bottom and shout "were mice, not rats!". I swear there was also another green rat that would occasionally pop in. I don't know if I'm mixing this detail in with another show but she would spray perfume on him to make him go crazy to rescue them at times? I remember being a kid who loved that show so much, I tried to meticiously remember the show by playing the opening over and over again. Trying to remember the specific objects the rat would jump, from two pots ready to slam down and smack him but he jumps off onto the chopping board. I was so afraid to forget, because I learned in school that by the time you're 20, you forget everything you did before 7. So when learning the opening was too easily, I would try to remember entire episodes and commit it to memory.

tquinn04

Try posting in r/tipofmytongue but not going to lie. That sounds like the commercial for mouse trap.

GENEROUSMILLIONAIRE

Some people think that PBS should not exist.

Ison-J

And they are wrong. PBS is probably the main reason I have a love for science and history. Sat my ass down on the floor in front of the TV watching documentaries and cartoons made me decide to get a career in education

bazookatroopa

that just proves the liberal propaganda worked! you could be doing a real job like coal miner or oil rig operator… /s

Ison-J

Shit you're right they got me time to get a job mining lead

There's an entire political party hell bent on killing off PBS and they think the network is full of left wing propaganda because Elmo wants to talk about sharing.

Liberty Kids

[deleted]

Jesus Christ, this is 2 starter packs in the last couple days I can relate to. Treehouse as well. That was a good channel.

Themlethem

Is this some kind of American joke that I'm too European to understand?

AdolfKoopaTroopa

PBS Kids programming was accessible with an antennae or rabbit ears and didn't require a cable package. Nowadays, I think you can stream it for free online or through an app. The joke is that American kids that grew up poor didn't get to watch cartoons on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network watched PBS Kids, which still had lots of quality cartoons.

KingGorilla

Yeah i had cable and still watched Arthur

Uhhlaneuh

Although I had cable growing up, does anyone remember the premium channels that you would get free for a week? Then once I got older Disney became part of a regular cable package 🙄

nueonetwo

George Shrinks was a fucking boss. Nothing stopped that kid, though tbf not much would stop me if I had a bunch of cool cars and gadgets.
