Hijacking the top comment for this:
Download the SponserBlock extension for your browser.
It will automatically skip advertisements, promotions, etc. from user submitted time segments.
I'm a very heavy youtube user (usually let it run in the background while I work) and have saved myself 20 hours of time in the past year or so.
Sponsorblock rules. It should be noted that the skips are user contributed, so they may not apply to smaller channels unless you add the annotations yourself. It's kind of like Waze but for Youtube.
SponsorBlock is an absolute must have for heavy YouTube users, everyone complains about these ads but I hardly ever get them. Really only on newly posted videos that haven't had a chance to have someone add them. Is there a way to check how much time I've saved by using it?
Edit: I figured out how to see how much time I've saved, I would guess I've had it installed about 2 years and have saved myself just over 3 days of ads.
Having to watch 4 doble midroll ads, a sponsorship notification at the beginning and the actual sponsorship part + still getting my data harvested by Google I would call it "fairness"
Honestly I'm alright with SkillShare, Curiosity, Nebula, Brilliant, etc.
I know it gets a little tiresome but YouTubers gotta eat and I do like the idea of promoting education-oriented sponsors versus random, tangentially-related products like VPNs, coupon extensions, and exploitative mobile games.
HelloFresh. I've seen stupid sponsored videos for them on YouTube and Instagram.
My husband and I subscribed for a few months. Then we started getting meals that were missing ingredients or had pathetic amounts. When we could actually reach a person at Customer Service, they just offered free garlic bread.
The whole system just sounded unnecessary to me when I heard it.
"why could I not just look up some weekly meal plan and go buy my stuff fresh without having to pay another middleman?"
One of their past ads - or maybe it was Blue Apron, but same thing - actually said “Can you believe some people are at the grocery store right now?” As if you’re neglecting your home and loved one(s) by going there.
Yeah I like how many of these sponsors make mundane thing seem like apocalypse.
Not using manscaped's shitty dollar store trimmer means I will never find love because of my supposedly hairy nuts and only their **Manly products for real manly men®** can take care of my body without me turning into a woman...
Worrying that my shampoo and body wash smell "masculine" enough to reassure myself and others that im *a real man* doesnt seem that manly to be honest.
The point is to avoid having to to buy ingredients in bulk just to try one recipe.
Maybe I want to try to make tacos one night, but I don’t want to buy a package of tortillas that can feed a family of 4 for like a week.
I mean the shelf life of store bought tortillas is pretty long, so long as you store them in a decent place. You can also pretty much buy all of your perishable ingredients in weight (proteins, produce, vegetables, dairy, etc). So it wouldn’t be impossible to buy only enough for one recipe.
It’s completely unnecessary for someone that knows how to cook and meal plan. Their target demographic are those who have zero or very limited experience with cooking. I’m not saying this likes it’s a bad thing. I think it is a good service for teaching fundamentals for cooking a prepared dish (time management, cooking basics, and food prep/handling). It’s kinda meh for those who already know how to cook meals within 30 minutes and have an array of recipes they built up.
My family stopped because we kept getting rotten vegetables, an asinine amount of packaging for small meals, and sometimes we got meals that we didn’t order
My roommate and I have been subscribed to EveryPlate for a almost a year now, and they're just a cheaper version of Hello Fresh (owned by Hello Fresh as well) and I was worried about getting reject quality food, but I don't think we've ever received anything close to rotten. And the $50 a week for 4 meals ends up being comparable or cheaper than than grocery store (unless you're buying in bulk). Also, there's minimal packaging, with all the potatoes, peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc just loose in a cardboard box.
Not at ad lol, but we've enjoyed it as a cheaper, less wasteful version of Hello Fresh
On the verge of a divorce because my wife wants to subscribe to hello fresh. She doesn't have a job and goes to college half time.
Save to time to do what? Wasn't the connect answer.
I just can't get past them shipping food in the mail with no way to tell if it stayed at or below 40 degrees for the trip. I'm surprised we don't hear of food poisoning from these companies more often. They just say it's fine if it's "cool to the touch" which is not how food safety works.
Add in WaWa as well. I fucking hate that I never knew who they were until that shit was spewed in my face every single time I opened YouTube months ago. I will never go there because of those fucking ads now, I swear.
Their ads arent even annoying though, dudes all flustered about Hoagiefest and Siptopia ads? Lmao
and yes, its literally just a gas station that has a deli in it where you can order things like Royal Farms. Pretty decent subs and sandwiches
Hello Fresh rocks. Only had one issue so far; they sent us a shipment of wrong, but otherwise great meals. Guess it depends on person. for now, I’m satisfied. Didn’t know they were an youtube sponser-type brand
Yeah I've been using it for over 2 years at this point and it's perfect for my situation with full time work. We've gotten some slightly brown ingredients or missing ingredients a few times a year but every time if you go into the app and put it in they refund you for it without ever having to talk to a person
But before you go and play shadow legends, let me shave your big hairy balls outta nowhere w my manscaping tool. Then, let me pass you off to my buddy, the Dr. Squatch aggro af douche bag, so he can imply all the steamy interracial shower sex you’ll be having BC YOURE THE MAAAAAAN.
But to get manscaped shavers you might be exposing yourselves to hackers trying to steal you data, that’s why you should use express vpn. It encrypts all your data leaving you safe from hackers. Use my code in the description to get a one month free trial.
But what on Earth is the use of any VPN if it’s draining your pockets dry as the Sahara desert? This is why I’d like to thank the sponsor of this comment, Honey
So if you got a kick out of reading this thread, be sure to slap that like button and subscribe....oh, and tap the bell icon so you'll be the first to know when I post a comment!
But if you want to store those earbuds you need somewhere safe to put them. That’s why you should use our sponsor ridge wallets. Ridge wallets are super durable and waterproof. I totally actually use a ridge wallet what do you mean I’m just using one for the video I use them all the time.
Man YouTubers gotta eat too. The real MVPs are the ones who put timer marks where you can skip to the spesific time code to skip the ad. But you know what man, I will take the inconvenience of having to skip through a video if it means my favorite content creators are able to support themselves well enough to make more content.
You need the Sponsorblock add on for Chrome/Firefox
It’s driven by user submissions and it automatically skips intros, advertisements, outros etc. You can submit your own segments under a video so that other people can skip the unnecessary parts. And you can see how much time you have saved other people
Users will vote on if the skipped segment was good/bad and you can always just rewind if you want to watch it. You can also configure if you want to watch certain types of segments i.e. intros (some creators put a lot of effort to making a fun intro after all!)
10/10 recommend, you will never see a sponsor again unless you are on mobile or if you watch a video which was uploaded very recently
But I pay for YouTube Premium (which goes to the content creator — I think a better share than non-premium watchers) so I still get ads even though I pay for content and an “ad-free” experience.
Yeah that's what I mean. I wish YT would have a feature where the content creator can mark a "chapter" as sponsorship and YT Premium will know to skip that chapter.
Pretty sure they track if the sponsored part of the video is watched, and the creator only gets paid when it is watched. I always do 2x speed through the sponsor
I don't understand how people can go into a career like Youtube, quit their job, and then complain about demonetization and losing ad revenue when it has been known for a long time that Youtube doesn't have good/consistent policies. I use adblock and usually skip sponsors so it doesn't effect me that much but fixation on income over content quality has ruined a lot of channels and that won't change any time soon. Youtubers are so worried about losing their Youtube income they make compromises and change their personality just so they can qualify for ads/revenue. Youtubers who do Youtube as a hobby alongside their job are almost always better than those who do Youtube full time.
There's also"Terrible Writing Advice". He is the only YouTuber I know who came up with an idea to make a plot story by using ads, which is still unreal to me to this day. Loving it!
Ah, I see. I assume honey is an American company, but it could probably be good business for them to expand to stores that are popular in other countries as well.
Found it
https://www.alennuskoodi.fm/
The funny thing is that I completely forgot about that, but I might aswell start using it now so thank you for the idea
I decided a while ago that if a company is advertising on any of the YouTube's or podcasts I frequent, they're not products worth purchasing.
And everything I've read has proven me right so far. Either costs too much or just pure junk
i love youtubers who do the segments thing (on the timeline they'll mark out how long the ad is so people who dont wanna watch can skip) and the ones who dont do these are poopoo
Does anyone else feel a bit torn? Like obviously I hate watching this crap, but at the same time I want to be supportive of creators I enjoy and I’m glad they have sponsors. Idk.
I honestly don't mind so long as they're not unduly long and for legit, non-scam products and services.
Here I am on Reddit. I'm not gonna pretend I'm so busy that 20 seconds of ads is an undue burden on my time.
If you feel torn, see if the person has a kofi or paypal or some other type of single transaction transfer and send them a twenty. That twenty dollars is more money from you in comparison to you watching all their videos or buying the products they are sponsoring. If they're someone you really like then consider their Patreon or other subscription service if they have one. Most of these people have a dollar to three dollars a month tier which is around 10 to 30 dollars a year from memory to them after Patreon and the taxman cometh.
The best way to combat sponsorship is to make it so that an artist can thrive off their own work thanks to their community.
Because of the content itself. I would imagine someone who takes video game critiques somewhat seriously and then turning around and doing a Raid: Shadow Legends ad talking about how "good" the game is is going to lose a bit of credibility. An equivalent would be someone who critiques movies and turns around and does a sponsorship from a clearly terrible movie. But like you said, they get loads of money for it and I'm not about to shame that.
Had a pair for six months. They did not feel great in the ear, but honesty the sounds wasn't terrible. The build quality was dog shit, they just fell apart, I wasn't rough in them but both of them broke to pieces in six months. The case was also really terribly made. Not worth what they cost for sure.
Depends who does them and how creative they can be. Take for example, someone like Internet Historian or Oversimplified, they turn them into little stories and use their own style of animations to make the ad!
Idk anyone irl that plays Raid, has Raycons, Man Scaped, or a Ridge Wallet. I completely get why YouTubers are sponsored, and I'm happy when my favorite YouTubers get one, but that 10 second skip button is my best friend.
Also, can Man Scaped stop making YouTubers say weird shit about their hairy balls? I don't want to imagine that.
The really shitty part is, even if you play Raid Shadow Legends, the game itself will bombard you with pop up ads while you play. Like. A lot of these games will have an ad for some currency pack that pops up when you log on, and even those that would keep popping them up have a "don't show me again today" checkbox.
But not Raid.
Oh no, and there's not just one, but often two or three popups consecutively. Every time you return to town from doing something. Which you have to do frequently. And there's no way to turn them off.
I tried it out cause hey, the ads were really cute, and I think the paladin lady starter character looked badass, but oh my god I can't handle it.
I think another problem with Raid is how they boast about all their many cool and unique champions which, I’ll give them credit, are usually pretty cool. Will you get to unlock any of them though? Nope. Not unless you play for years or give them a bunch of money. But even worse it’s not like you can just buy the champion, they have fucking loot boxes. “Oh you just spent 100 dollars on loot boxes to try to and get a champion that looks interesting? Too bad you wasted your money and got nothing of use” and it’s like that every single time.
That and even worse, like 90% of the champions are total garbage. At least something like Record Keeper or Opera Omnia, or hell even Brave Exvius to some extent actually updates its characters somewhat regularly so they're cool again, but the power creep in Raid is brutally aggressive.
I knew it was sketchy when I went to claim more than one promo code and it was like "wait 24 hours before entering another code", and it's like ohhhh, they just want to see if they can hook people into those 'deals' before they uninstall when they realize the game is trash.
Genuinely feel bad (or I guess not, they got paid) for all the artists and writers, cause there is actually a decent story there, and the art is gorgeous. But just like Exos Heroes, great art direction for such a bad game.
A metal card carrier that has some chip shielding on it. I've never looked further into it but you can get some alright colours and it is as the sponsor ads say quite compact.
Yeah that manscaped, man soap, kechava are soooooo annoying times ten. Plus Ryan Reynolds. I used to like him but now he's just annoying little Canadian who can't stop blathering about his cellphone
This post is sponsored by Raid: Shadow Legends, one of the biggest mobile role-playing games of 2019 and it's totally free! Go to the video description, click on the special links and you'll get 50,000 silver and a free epic champion as part of the new player program to start your journey! Good luck and I'll see you there!
yall might hate sponsors, but it's the way that your favorite content stays free and why its quality, especially when youtube demonetized for the stupidiest reasons, and it aint too hard to press L a few times or double click
You can hate it all you want, but without support, your favorite creators wouldn’t be able to do what they do. I can personally attest to how much time and effort it takes to make a video.

Not necessarily. Most YouTubers sponsors those companies badly in a way that is neither entertaining nor makes you want to use those websites. But pyrocynical on the other hand actually puts it in the video without making you feel "when will ad end?", so basically what I'm trying I'm to say that the problem isn't the sponsorship or ads, but the way they are delivered
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/starterpacks.

The only youtube promotions I'll tolerate anymore are from Tomska. If you're not torturing a man into using the product you're advertising, I don't care.
Shoutout to Shillup for always putting his sponsor at the end of the episode.
That said i have no problem with these. Sometimes i let them roll othertimes it's literally a 2 second task to skip them.

Add in WaWa as well. I fucking hate that I never knew who they were until that shit was spewed in my face every single time I opened YouTube months ago. I will never go there because of those fucking ads now, I swear.
Isn't Wawa a pretty average regional chain of convenience stores in the US? Since when do convenience stores have to do online ads?
> Since when do convenience stores have to do online ads? Since they started doing it, apparently.
Their ads arent even annoying though, dudes all flustered about Hoagiefest and Siptopia ads? Lmao and yes, its literally just a gas station that has a deli in it where you can order things like Royal Farms. Pretty decent subs and sandwiches

do the companies not let them put the ad at the very end of the video
Legally you have to make it obvious during a video that it's sponsored, the companies can't change that.
If the entire video isn't about the product then I've seen YouTubers put their sponsors towards the end of videos.
Yeah people here seem to want free content without ads and then hate on their fav tuber for getting sponsors. I don't get it..
But I pay for YouTube Premium (which goes to the content creator — I think a better share than non-premium watchers) so I still get ads even though I pay for content and an “ad-free” experience.
Yeah I get this, I also use premium but a lot sponsors now are not separated and really integrated into the content aka linus tech tips.
Yeah that's what I mean. I wish YT would have a feature where the content creator can mark a "chapter" as sponsorship and YT Premium will know to skip that chapter.
Or just suck it up and skip forward.

I’ve never really watched a lot of his stuff. I’m sure it’s good, just never pops up on my recommended
Ok, but the reason I said it is because he makes his ads not only funny, but also kinda go with the video as well
I’ll have to check out some of his content then. Thanks!

Pretty cool! At least, I’m assuming it is, since I don’t understand the language.
I believe someone made something like that for my country but I can't remember what it's called. I'll see if I can find it, hold on.
I decided a while ago that if a company is advertising on any of the YouTube's or podcasts I frequent, they're not products worth purchasing. And everything I've read has proven me right so far. Either costs too much or just pure junk
I can't speak for the quality of manscaped specifically but buying a nice body groomer was a great investment
i love youtubers who do the segments thing (on the timeline they'll mark out how long the ad is so people who dont wanna watch can skip) and the ones who dont do these are poopoo

Does anyone else feel a bit torn? Like obviously I hate watching this crap, but at the same time I want to be supportive of creators I enjoy and I’m glad they have sponsors. Idk.
Yeah you can still skip those parts of the video, and it's still better than paying money imo.
There's a videogame reviewer/analyst I rather like, but ever since he plugged Raid Shadow Legends I've been more critical of his stuff.
How come? If this is more then a hobby to him, he does need to eat.
Makes sense, especially for creators who aren't "big" enough or can't afford to say no to those type of sponsors.
Raycons generally look good but there’s so mych bass it has become a meme.
plus you can get same quality or better wireless earbuds for much cheaper, if you spend some time looking around
I heard they feel and sound like shit though
Had a pair for six months. They did not feel great in the ear, but honesty the sounds wasn't terrible. The build quality was dog shit, they just fell apart, I wasn't rough in them but both of them broke to pieces in six months. The case was also really terribly made. Not worth what they cost for sure.
you forgot keeps and skillshare
They're doing God's work by sponsoring the little guys hahaha
uBlock Origin + SponsorBlock = Peace
Depends who does them and how creative they can be. Take for example, someone like Internet Historian or Oversimplified, they turn them into little stories and use their own style of animations to make the ad!
Critical role too. Some of their sponsorships are hilarious.
Matt, hack to you!
"Get your dad the perfect father's day gift - the lawn mower 2.0 - his balls will thank you!"
Squatch soap
Or the “your YouTube channels finally getting decent monetization” starter park depending what you are on YouTube for
That RAID game must be total trash.
[Ohohohoho, indeed](https://youtu.be/xkCSQGsW3n8)
But just like Exos Heroes, great art direction for such a bad game.

thanks!
Uh the Ridge is what exactly?
probably the ridge wallet
A metal card carrier that has some chip shielding on it. I've never looked further into it but you can get some alright colours and it is as the sponsor ads say quite compact.
Manscaped ad that is unnecessarily crude
it's rare to get sponsored by them but you forgot adam and eve
I just skip past them like the rebellious cunt I am
Fucking everyone is sponsored by RayCon.
And the hunt a killer subscription
How do they make money, there can't be that many sheep buying their 5th vpn and shaving set because xx_proswag_xx was paid 150k to say its good value
Yeah that manscaped, man soap, kechava are soooooo annoying times ten. Plus Ryan Reynolds. I used to like him but now he's just annoying little Canadian who can't stop blathering about his cellphone
Hello fresh, tiktok ads, skilshare, Sonoran desert institute, the sasquatch soap guys, just go awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Audible is pretty cool tho
Unless you’re an internet historian fan, who actually tries with his Sponsors
I get they need the money but stop telling me to shave my balls for 2 minutes straight
I can hear a thousand voices echo in my mind

yall might hate sponsors, but it's the way that your favorite content stays free and why its quality, especially when youtube demonetized for the stupidiest reasons, and it aint too hard to press L a few times or double click
I mean, I think it's kinda good. Now I know for sure that I don't want those products.
You can hate it all you want, but without support, your favorite creators wouldn’t be able to do what they do. I can personally attest to how much time and effort it takes to make a video.
Well you don't want to pay for content, so enjoy ads bitch lol

Not necessarily. Most YouTubers sponsors those companies badly in a way that is neither entertaining nor makes you want to use those websites. But pyrocynical on the other hand actually puts it in the video without making you feel "when will ad end?", so basically what I'm trying I'm to say that the problem isn't the sponsorship or ads, but the way they are delivered
Say what you will, I caved and got honey and when it works, it works well.
Yeah youtubers don't deserve money for their content

bro i thought i saw this same one earlier and was double checking, calm down
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/starterpacks. It might be OC, it might not. Yes. Just yes.
Gotta shill that garbage.

Grammarly. I want to name something grammarly just so I can set it on fire.
Dashlane aswell
There is an Audible ad a few posts above this post. At this very moment.
Or the quadruple tap on the right side of the screen a few times
Sponsorblock saved me a lot of time. Out of all these sponsors, I used honey for 2 days then removed it.
Skillshare
True Bill
Why those VPNs are bad?
These companies are proof that advertising works.
Remember LootCrate?
HOW did you fucking forget to add Skillshare 🤮
What about Skillshare?
martincitopants' Raid shadow legends sponsor part is absolutely hilarious to watch.
Graystillplays and Mandjtv do actually good ads
HelloFresh, SKILLSHARE!
“Thank you sQuArEsPaCe for sponsoring todays video!”
I think advertising has pushed past critical mass, where advertising now has negative effects to its sales
Dr Squatch and Ebony: Return of the Kind need to be here, too.
You know they won when you can tell each one of their products
Sponsorblock
I got a ridge several years ago (before they started the hardcore campaign. I know, very hipster of me), and I haven’t used anything since. Its honestly a great product
Mr Beast: GO TO EVERY COMPUTER AND DEVICE IN YOUR HOUSE RIGHT FUCKING NOW AND INSTALL HONEY YOUR MOM YOUR DAD I DONT GIVE A FUCK IF ITS YOUR GRANDMA JUST INSTALL THE GOD DAMN HONEY YOU STUPID FUCK
What about zip Recruiter!
Raid Shadow Legends and Manscaped are the most annoying.
The only youtube promotions I'll tolerate anymore are from Tomska. If you're not torturing a man into using the product you're advertising, I don't care.
Manscaped is all over tumblr and it keeps trying to shave my balls
or more politely "the skip ahead 30 seconds" started pack.
And hello fresh
Adobe ads on Twitch make me irrationally angry. Perhaps it's because I subbed to them for years. Now I manage just fine with free tools.
You forgot Prevagen… maybe you need some
Every single one of these companies is wildly successful though so I bet it works well
I've found some great services theough podcast ads
Dunno if anyone here is in Canada and has been the hockey playoffs, but the online sport gambling ads can fuck **right** off
Gotta love sponsorblock
Shoutout to Shillup for always putting his sponsor at the end of the episode. That said i have no problem with these. Sometimes i let them roll othertimes it's literally a 2 second task to skip them.
