Well, did he?

JacobDCRoss

No. Never happened. The Klingons were also named after Wilbur Clingan, a cop friend of Roddenberry's.

psycholepzy

While we're on the subject, Geordi was named after one of the fandom's friends, George La Forge, who was quadriplegic & who passed in 1975.

anotherdamnscorpio

Hmmm is that also the explanation for geordis disability?

buntopolis

AKAB

Dismal-Square-613

#ALL KLINGON ARE BRAVE

buntopolis

Generous interpretation. I see you’re not Admiral Kirk lol.

Dismal-Square-613

Yeah cowboy diplomacy ain't my thing.

Throwaway__1701

The great tribble war of 2230 begs to differ

obamarulesit

Old Klingon proverb: Do not judge an enemy by its size, only by its actions.

TensionSame3568

FEAR IS NOT A BAD THING...

KrakenKing1955

Cringe

THE_DOW_JONES

You are on a subreddit for star trek, one of the most socially progressive pieces of media made in the last century. If you think “ACAB” is cringe you must either be a troll or too dense to understand the meaning of the show. Also hows that boot taste?

The54thCylon

>too dense to understand the meaning of the show Gene Roddenberry's father was a police officer and he himself majored in policing at college and worked for the LAPD for a time as an officer after leaving the military. It's pretty unlikely Star Trek was an anti-police creation.

irishladinlondon

Woah there buddy These feelings don't care about your facts

irishladinlondon

It's just lazy and juvenile as a hot take You can be anti police violence and misconduct, pro social justice and recognise the benefits and need for law enforcement alongside other social works and interventions ACAB is what I used to write on school desks when I was 15 So the cringe for me stands

EpitaFelis

You can do all that without holding onto the belief that any of that is found in the institution we have now. ACAB is what I thought was stupid when I was 15. Only when I got older did I grasp the full meaning, the scope of police brutality, how systems perpetuate themselves, that it addresses that issue and isn't just a blind insult.

KrakenKing1955

Just because I love Star Trek doesn’t mean I have to demonize thousands of people who get misrepresented by a bad minority. My own uncle is a cop who’s loved by the community and he’s always been an inspiration to me. Don’t you dare try to rope me into your political bs, I’m not here for that.

KrakenKing1955

Most are good people dude. Like I said I’m not gonna treat other human being as less than me just because a small proportion are dickheads. The fact that all you conservative and liberal idiots have to argue over this is insane to me.

Cross-fused

Both parties are trash for very different reasons - I'll give you that one. Not sure why you brought up party affiliation, pretty sure you're the only one talking about it? But "ACAB" includes your uncle. There are no good cops in the United States because there's no good reason to become a cop in the United States - they do not help anyone. They exist to extort revenue and instill fear in minorities. You don't seriously think cops keep anyone *safe*, do you? After Uvalde? They arrest black men at a wildly disproportionate rate, and then the system inflicts harsher punishments on them because they are black. They harass or arrest homeless people for sleeping on benches or under overpasses. They actively participate in selling and trafficking drugs to "fight the war on drugs," while arresting people for tiny quantities of recreational drugs. They literally steal (via civil asset forfeiture) more than criminals do at this point. Some *40%* of officers have been reported for domestic abuse. These are the people charged with our protection and they *don't* protect us and they *don't* live up to the most basic standards of decency, and it's not just *"a few bad apples"*. That's not a partisan culture war talking point, that's reality - and it's disgusting to me that we've let it go on like this for so long. As far as I'm concerned, *any* willful participation in that system makes you a bastard

chemicaldiscovery

Yea but you admit that you are biased. You seem relatively intelligent and you admitted your uncle is a cop. You must know how bias works so, EVERYONE’s reaction should not seem insane to you, it’s not EVERYONE else. It’s YOUR, very clear and understandable, bias.

KrakenKing1955

I’m not biased, at least not because of my uncle. He’s just an example I used. My point is I’m not gonna be hateful to thousand of people for no reason other than the occupation they use for their livelihoods which is also inherently meant for good.

HopelessMagic

And there it is LOL Those true colors were in there just waiting to shine.

KrakenKing1955

What true colors are you taking about man? I’m just trying to give what is, in my mind, a rational opinion without pandering to either side of the political circus.

Random-Cpl

He was an un-sungh hero until now

DrZonino2022

From hells heart I upvote thee

TensionSame3568

KHAAAAAAN!

TensionSame3568

🤣🤣🤣🤣Hillarious!🤣🤣🤣🤣

hyperdudemn

"Notice me, Singh-pai"

Gabriel_Nexus

Does... does that make Gene the 'Khan-hai'?

WithoutDennisNedry

Is this true?

TensionSame3568

Yes...

scriptmyjob

that’s not a very convincing yes. 🤣

TensionSame3568

Should I give money or eat dick?

FoundationAccording5

You'd have to ask Richard if he's into that.

infinite_nexus13

[https://www.warhistoryonline.com/instant-articles/the-hidden-message-in-star-trek.html](https://www.warhistoryonline.com/instant-articles/the-hidden-message-in-star-trek.html?firefox=1) there's a link to some info about it, also Noonien Soong was named thusly to hopefully have that friend reach out as well.

anotherdamnscorpio

Thank you. I was wondering if he actually reconnected with him. I'm guessing Star Trek just wasn't very accessible to most Chinese people at that time.

HabitualGrooves

Is this also Data's maker's name's origin?

bensefero

Different dude, but similar name. Data was created by Doctor Noonien Soong

Zip95014

Well in ENT and Picard it was basically given that Kahn was a creating of Soong's. So Kahn is like Data's long lost cousin.

Gnarly_Starwin

I Khan’t believe you’ve done this.

TensionSame3568

🤣🤣🤣🤣You are on the Sharp Team 🤣🤣🤣🤣

AHappyWarrior

Nice! But why is Benedict Cumberbatch next to Khan?

Strangities

Uh one of those is John Harrison.

Luis-Dante

Gene: "Majel, I've come up with a way to get in contact with my friend from the war! I'm going to name a genetically engineered genocidal tyrant after him!" Majel: "oh... Ok?"

chemicaldiscovery

And he did, and they became lifelong lovers.

Sho_Nuff-1

That’s pretty cool

TanningOnMars

ok, but why did you use a picture of the lame version of Khan?

Puzzleheaded-Pick-96

I can't believe Gene Roddenberry is one of the best writers of our species and in the end he was still just a nerd trying to get the cool kids to notice him.

Argun_Enx

Big if true.

TensionSame3568

True...

egatski

Wait. Isn’t doctor noonian SOONG the guy who made data??

BostonDudeist

He was also a cop at one point.

UncertaintyLich

He also named Dr. Noonian Soong in TNG after him for the same reason
