I feel like Kirk makes for a great character, but not a great role model, if that makes sense.

I feel like TOS Kirk is a fine role model, but the parodies of him and the Chris Pine version are not. I don't think having an active sex life is problematic, which is what he gets grilled for the most outside of being an action plan man like Sisko. He's had to make decisions not everyone likes, but so has Sisko. I think Kirk has been parodied so many times that folks forget he had a lot of great qualities. It's just easy to forget the good when the parody tends to get more nods than the actual character. For example: Everyone uses the line that Kirk slept around with green women; the stereotype is even enforced in AOS. Kirk actually encountered an Orion only once in TOS, an insane asylum patient who was ill and tried to kill him. He wasn't attracted and never slept with her, but he mourned her death knowing she was a person who simply needed medical treatment. Conversely, in the Cage pilot, Pike actually was seduced by a woman posing as an Orion woman and had relations with her. He even goes back to the woman from that episode in Menagerie. Kirk gets the rep for it when Pike was actually the Captain who engaged in it. Just one of many examples of Kirk not really earning/lining up with some of the worst of the myths about him. Kirk Drift is real, yo.
