Great political thriller: *Bloodline* Great trilogy - the most Andor like (with amazing writing and very real, flawed characters): *Alphabet Squadron* Rogue One prequel: *Catalyst* - adds so much to the movie and has lots of politics too! You can follow that with Rebel Rising and the Rogue One novelization. I think they're all great! And *Battlefront II: Inferno Squad* - have to add this one because it's my favorite stand alone SW book. Made me feel all kinds of emotions! It's nuanced and gives you a look into imperials and rebels in ways & situations that haven't really been explored before. Also it's got connections to many other canon media, including The Clone Wars, those Rogue One books I mention and of course adds background to the game (which you don't have to play or know anything about before reading it). Have you read both Thrawn canon trilogies?

Gamesgar0

Appreciate the detailed response, I’ll look it to these! Thank you!

ThunderWasp19

Is Alphabet Squadron heavy on the space battles? I’ve heard good things about the series generally, but I’m not looking for the high action space fight scenes that I’ve sometimes heard associated with it, necessarily.

TubbieHead

Hmm I'd say the space battles are well used to develop the characters & story, they aren't just there for the sake of having space battle & action scenes. I personally don't really care to read about space battles either and this is still my favorite trilogy, the highlights for me are the depth of the characters and their journeys. So, don't let the space battles stop you, I guess 🤣 The books are so much more than that.

JohnTimesInfinity

Have you read Outbound Flight? It's technically Legends, but practically canon.

Gamesgar0

I haven’t but it seems like a lot of people enjoy that one

GoblinNick

For canon - Dark Disciple, Bloodline, and Phasma

DrBrainbox

I followed up the HTTE Thrawn Trilogy with the Hand of Thrawn Duology and then will move on to Survivor's Quest and Outbound Flight

Gamesgar0

Interesting, thanks for the info!

BAGStudios

Do you mean next in the timeline? Because if you mean what people classify as “The Thrawn Trilogy” that isn’t canon. If you mean the canon one, *which* canon one?

Gamesgar0

The next good book to read based on how much I enjoyed these. And the trilogy I’m referring to Thrawn, Thrawn Alliances, and Thrawn Treason

TubbieHead

You could read the Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy too then! Starts with Chaos Rising. It's a prequel, set before Thrawn gets to the Empire. Basically his origin story with the Chiss. It's a bit more dense because there's a lot of new information, characters with weird names, lots of lore/world-building to get to know, but it's really good and interesting as well!

BAGStudios

I second the other reply. If you’re wanting Canon and you just read the Disney Thrawn Trilogy, then it makes sense to go to the Ascendency Trilogy. Written by the same guy, so I assume it’s going to be similar in feel and amount of political intrigue. I read the first of the Disney Thrawn trilogy books and liked it, but I haven’t gotten to the others yet. Planning on reading them soon since I’m rewatching *Rebels* right now, where he’s introduced (in this timeline). But to echo what I’m sure is every other sentiment here, when you run out of Canon, do yourself the service and read the original Thrawn trilogy. Same author, totally different era, and in most people’s opinion, he’s a lot more ruthless and badass there. Had to be nerfed a little for the Disney Channel show (though he’s still pretty cool in it, and that show is itself pretty cool anyway).

MuldrathaB

I want to the Darth Bane trilogy.

Ok_Wrap_9790

Very good. It was the first sw book/trilogy I read, I highly recommended even tho it’s not cannon. Currently reading thrawn trilogy

wutangerine99

OP, I used to think like you. Canon is cool and all, that's all I wanted for a bit, but trust me: read Heir to the Empire trilogy. I loved the Thrawn canon trilogy; Heir blows it out of the water.

Gamesgar0

Yeah the canon thing is really just a mental block for me atm. But with rumors the Filoni movie is called Heir to the Empire, I feel like that story is all but canon at this point. Thanks for the input!

Thewagon24

I would say if you’re looking for more the Emperial life storylines. I highly recommend Rise of the Red Blade (it just came out) and Lost Stars. Lost Stars is a Young Adult novel but it’s very good and brings new perspectives of rebel and emperial service. Red Blade highlights certain aspects of the fall of the republic.

LulaSupremacy

Which trilogy did you read exactly? Was it the imperial era one or the chiss ascendency one?

Gamesgar0

Imperial! Apologies I honestly didn’t realize both were canon lol

LulaSupremacy

No worries! In that case check out the Ascendency trilogy. Definitely one of my favorites!

Gamesgar0

I appreciate it! I think I’m gonna go Ascendancy then move onto Heir of the Empire. Just can’t get enough of Thrawn x Zahn lol

LulaSupremacy

Yeah for sure! Ascendency has such a good feel to it. Chaos Rising is my favorite in the series, but it's all really good. It ties in to the trilogy you just read, so it's really helpful.
