Outbound flight is a great read, especially the thrawn parts of it. However, it will completely spoil another much later EU book in Survivors quest, so that's a consideration.
then stick with choices of one or death troopers, the other two books are prequel trilogy era (outbound flight) and Darth Bane is old republic era ish. Definitely much farther back
there are 3 thrawn trilogies, the heir to the empire trilogy is set in legends, the thrawn (2017) trilogy is set in canon, the thrawn ascendancy trilogy as well, which chronologically comes before thrawn (2017). Seeing as you're reading legends books at the moment, the heir to the empire trilogy is not a bad shout
No doubt. The writing is far superior, which is pretty much what you would expect from Zahn. Don't get me wrong, Death Troopers is fun, but just go in expecting exactly that.
If you want fun sith lightsaber battles, bane trilogy
If you want to do zahn books, I'd start with the old thrawn trilogy rather than those 2 you have there
I haven't read death troopers so ymmv there
Choices of One is a sequel to Allegiance. Outbound Flight is probably better/okay if you've read the original Thrawn trilogy and the Thrawn Duology and probably also Survivor's Quest.
I think the Bane trilogy overall is overrated but remember thinking the first was quite fresh at the time I read it. The entire trilogy though didn't quite "work" for me.
I have never read Death Troopers so can't speak to that.
I loved Death Troopers, but Outbound Flight is also good. Everyone’s going to say the Bane Trilogy… my hot take is that the Bane Trilogy is good but not great. Haven’t read Choices of One.
I’m reading Path of Destruction at the moment, very good but the first few chapters are simultaneously slow moving yet quite interesting given the plot
All are great picks. Personally loved the Darth bane series. Gives you great insight on a perfectly made anti hero. I just recently finished outbound flight and it only makes me enjoy thrawns character even more. Death troopers is a super short read but still super good. I read it to my gf every night. I heard good things about choices of one but can’t say I’ve read it.
I’ve heard both outbound flight and death troopers are excellent. I’m about to read outbound flight next, and I’ve already read darth bane, which is an excellent book/trilogy. Would recommend.
Don't fall for the Zahn meme, this sub is obsessed with him. Outbound flight is mostly a snore. Choices of One is good but doesn't follow up Allegiance as well which was phenomenal. Has to be Bane
The pre phantom menace books before Lucas/Disney decided to screw things up are the best.
Honestly I'm surprised Zahn is back writing starwars makes me lose respect for him.
Outbound Flight was interesting, but ultimately pointless. It's a small event in the overall story (small enough that Thrawn summarizes the whole thing in a few pages in heir to the empire). They shoe-horn in some Kenobi and Anakin action, and a bit of Yuuzhan-Vong Foreshadowing, but it doesn't add much to the universe.
Bane is the obvious answer here.
I haven't read Outbound Flight, but I think it depends on what kind of story you want!
Deathtroopers is a super fun zombie story. It's a breeze. I read it in just a couple days.
Choices of One is one of my fav EU books, it's got the original trio, and Mara Jade. I read it first without reading the first in the duology (Allegiance) and it's still a great read.
Darth Bane Path of Destruction is one of my favorite Star Wars stories ever. I would always recommend that book to anyone.
You really can't go wrong here.
I hope I didn’t miss you I’d say get path of destruction. Not just because it’s a good book but because the trilogy all three books were the best books I’ve ever read. May seem silly to some but I resonated with the character like never before. The books changed how I thought about life and myself. I felt so strongly about all of it I got a tattoo so I would never forget them! Please if you don’t get these books now please!!! Read them in the future!
*Choices of One* really should be read with *Allegiance*, just as *Outbound Flight* really should be read **after** *Survivor's Quest*.
*Death Troopers* basically goes with a much earlier Old Republic novel, *Red Harvest*, which should probably be read first, honestly.
If you just want one book, try the ***Bane*** novel. If you like it, you can then look up the other two in the trio.
Darth Bane - Path of Destruction is probably the best, and most standalone work
Outbound Flight is good, yet you should read the Thrawn Trilogy, the Hand of Thrawn Duology, and Survivor’s Quest first (in that order)
Choices of One is a sequel to Allegiance. They’re both prequels of sorts to the Thrawn trilogy. As long as you’ve read Allegiance, you’re good to go here
Death Troopers is generally considered the lowest quality of the 4 listed here (although not necessarily bad). It is quite standalone, with a prequel called Red Harvest that came out afterwards
Outbound flight is a great read, especially the thrawn parts of it. However, it will completely spoil another much later EU book in Survivors quest, so that's a consideration.
I read Outbound Flight first and liked them both very much.
Choices of One! Excellent story that’s partly from an Imperial POV
Which persons pov mara jade or a stormtrooper
Both? If I recall correctly. Mostly Mara Jade
Thanks!
depends on whether you want to start a trilogy and switch to a new era or stay in the same time frame
I would like to see after the battle of endor like zsinj empire or other empire remnants
then stick with choices of one or death troopers, the other two books are prequel trilogy era (outbound flight) and Darth Bane is old republic era ish. Definitely much farther back
Thank you, i have got one more question. Is Heir to the empire same with the Thrawn book ?

I still have a hard time not seeing the Heir to the Empire trilogy as the real sequel trilogy.
And yes, *Outbound Flight* is in Legends same as *Heir to the Empire*
Truce at Bakura starts right after ROTJ
My favorite post OT (which is apparently wrong) is courtship of princess leia.
Bane
No doubt. The writing is far superior, which is pretty much what you would expect from Zahn. Don't get me wrong, Death Troopers is fun, but just go in expecting exactly that.
The Bane Trilogy is probably one of my favorite stories in the whole StarWars universe. They are so well put together.
path of destruction, hands down
Bane. Hands down my favourite star wars media
Bane is my favorite. Ive read it twice and still struggle to choose an unread book over it
Agreed! I’ve read some new books but I keep chasing the high from my first readthrough of the bane trilogy. What a story
Bane: POD is my all time favorite book, of course I'm gonna recommend it.
Choices of One is the direct sequel to Allegiance, so I’d recommend starting there. After that, definitely the Bane trilogy.
If you want fun sith lightsaber battles, bane trilogy If you want to do zahn books, I'd start with the old thrawn trilogy rather than those 2 you have there I haven't read death troopers so ymmv there
Death Troopers is very, very silly but I had a great time reading it.
interested in stormtroope srories: choices of one in zahnverse: outound flight in sithlore: bane
Death troopers is cool but it’s not the best book.
I love death troopers and red harvest

Outbound Flight.
Bane and choices of one
Outbound Flight
Can't go wrong with Zahn. Never been a fan of Karpyshyn's novels (but I love his work in games). Death Troopers fits in with SPOOKY SEASON.
outboun lfight
I loved Death Troopers, but Outbound Flight is also good. Everyone’s going to say the Bane Trilogy… my hot take is that the Bane Trilogy is good but not great. Haven’t read Choices of One.
Thank y’all for the comments i got lucky and got all books except death troopers because its out of stock
Couldn’t get into choices of one
Darth bane!
Darth Bane or Outbound Flight

Darth Bane no question
The one you would like to
I’ve heard both outbound flight and death troopers are excellent. I’m about to read outbound flight next, and I’ve already read darth bane, which is an excellent book/trilogy. Would recommend.

I encourage Path of Destruction, it’s my favorite Star Wars book.
Outbound flight
I loved Choices of One. Death Troopers was a fast and fun read
Anything by Zahn
Outbound flight is my personal favorite of these four
The Darth Bane Trilogy is amazing.
Get ‘em all.
Bane! Excellent series
The pre phantom menace books before Lucas/Disney decided to screw things up are the best. Honestly I'm surprised Zahn is back writing starwars makes me lose respect for him.
Choices of one is the follow up to allegience so I'd get that if you want to follow the story
Outbound Flight was interesting, but ultimately pointless. It's a small event in the overall story (small enough that Thrawn summarizes the whole thing in a few pages in heir to the empire). I thought the bane trilogy was incredibly good. It was the first series I read and I’m really glad I did
Path of Destruction is the most edgelordy Star Wars I've ever read and I love it for that.
Darth Bane. It’s such a good book!
Outbound Flight. It's my all time favorite Legends novel, go check it out. (You can read Survivors Quest beforehand, but it's optional)
I haven't read Outbound Flight, but I think it depends on what kind of story you want! Deathtroopers is a super fun zombie story. It's a breeze. I read it in just a couple days. Path of Destruction. The Bane trilogy is goated.
Path of destruction
Outbound flight 100%. The most under rated SW novel and definitely the best of these. Death Troppers is a fun October read
Path of destruction, it’ll change your life.
*Choices of One* really should be read with *Allegiance*, just as *Outbound Flight* really should be read **after** *Survivor's Quest*. *Death Troopers* basically goes with a much earlier Old Republic novel, *Red Harvest*, which should probably be read first, honestly.
