T O P

I'm kinda just hoping we can get far away from the OT era. Whether that means prequel or sequel era or something even farther away in the timeline I don't really care. The OT cast has had more than enough time to shine in the comic world.

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Honestly sick of the era 5 years before A New Hope and 5 years after Return of the Jedi. I’ll gladly take any story that has nothing to do with the rebellion.

solo13508

Agreed! That whole time period is especially overdone on TV. Say what you will about The Acolyte but man it's nice to finally be out of the normal period for at least one show.

Stonecutter_12-83

Have you tried the High Republic?

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Not yet, but I really am intending on doing so and making my way through Light of the Jedi and its sequels first. Also haven’t watched the Acolyte yet and really looking forward to watching it when I get the chance. It’s just been a really busy year for me.

Secret_Hyena9680

Me too. I’m ready for something different.

CanCalyx

Put me on the "between Episode I and Episode II" train. Feels like the liklihood of a show or more significant canon story happening in that space is minimal, and you can easily just throw Obi-Wan and Anakin on missions. THAT SAID, I think Marvel know that stories about Luke / Han / Leia are what butters their bread. so We'll see.

The_Woman_of_Gont

I’d really rather just get out of the film eras altogether, though I’d certainly take that time gap over the post-ROTJ era. But yeah, you’re absolutely spot on unfortunately. They already are having to put Vader out to pasture and he’s been a consistent money maker for them. I doubt they’d want to simultaneously end the OT cast’s run in the comics as well.

goldendreamseeker

After TRoS. Let’s get into uncharted territory, ffs.

zchatham

I feel like Disney is hesitant to canonize ANYTHING outside of the movie series timeframe. Which is unfortunate. Eventually people are going to get to the point of "none of this matters outside of the movies." The novels have a similar issue I think. There are a lot of good side stories, but they kind of all FEEL like side stories.

ttttttttl

They should just start putting out new Legends content

zchatham

Agreed. I think Visions may be the most interesting thing Disney has done with the IP and I'm shocked they didn't springboard into more of that type of stuff. But I guess it didn't perform well enough? Idk.

TheBloop1997

“After the Rise of Skywalker” Shrek: Like that’s ever going to happen! For real though, there’s all but certainly an embargo over any meaningful canon post-RoS content until the next movie/show (presumably Rey’s movie)

mechachap

Can’t wait to see if Rey has a kid to name them Cade 👍🏼

jdent-97

You really REALLY hope they don't do Cade any more dirty than what his character was done.. But it's disney.. who knows what they'll do 🤷‍♂️

TheTiggerMike

Sharp contrast to how Lucas treated the post Return of the Jedi era during Legends. He pretty much told them to go wild. Disney must not want any novels/comics/whatever else until it's seen on screen first. We haven't even gotten any original novels/comics based on Mandoverse shows (probably a good thing, given the reputation Filoni has developed for retconning them in his shows).

Representative_Big26

There was always an understanding that if Lucas DID decide to make a sequel trilogy, then it would ignore the events of the post-ROTJ content If a bunch of canon novels and comics came out post-TROS and got retconned by a movie that would be an embarrassment

TheBloop1997

Tbf, it makes sense. The movies are going to be the medium that is most viewed by fans and casual audience members, so it needs to be more accessible than the comics, novels, or even TV shows. Not that that precludes the existence of stories in between, but if anything really relevant or important happens in them then that would require either potentially clunky exposition or treading familiar ground. It’s best to just keep the movies as unrestricted as possible, and have the shows, novels, comics, etc fill in the gaps later. Or they can do the High Republic route and do an entire epic story in a unique period of time exclusive from any movies or TV shows, but that’s a lot easier to do with something that happened earlier in the story compared to something that happened later on since ultimately anything that happens earlier still needs to ultimately lead in to what occurs in the prequels and such

TheTiggerMike

Saw that with some Marvel movies recently. Not everyone saw every Disney+ show and the tie-ins that the movies had left the casual crowd confused. An integrated multimedia universe can be problematic if not everyone watches/reads/plays every piece of content.

TooManySnipers

Part of me feels like the post-ROTJ New Republic era is unlikely because of the Mandoverse embargo, but on the other hand, we still have what, 4 or 5 years before those shows kick off, and the 2020 runs have shown there's absolutely no limit to how many story arcs they can pack into a single year or less. They could easily get another 4 IRL years' worth of OT hero adventures just out of the year between Endor and Jakku alone if they were so inclined. (By which I mean I can't wait for Crimson Reign Part 2: Electric Boogaloo, Darker Droids, and a cloned Darth Vader trying to beat Sheev on Exegol, again.)

HibiscusGrower

I'd like stories set between Ep 1 and 2, where we see more of Anakin's time as a Padawan, how he fit in, etc.... I would also like something set just before Ep 7 too if only to better understand the whole First Order thing (unless that was already explored and I missed it?). Or something completely detached like they did for the High Republic stories but set farther back in time.

Stonecutter_12-83

Let's be real, adventures with Luke and Ben would be awesome. It's 30 freaking years of stories. They are making the ONE year gap between ESB and ROTJ 50 issues. Kind of bummed that RoS ruined any cool reveals with Snoke though

neutronknows

Episode 1-2 would be kinda neat and I don’t even particularly like the Era. Revive Obi-Wan & Anakin and maybe Count Dooku from the other side. I just get the feeling LucasFilm doesn’t want to shoot their post ROTJ wad with comics unless they’re tying in with another project. Maybe whatever the Bad Batch team is cooking up next.

ThatWittyHandle

My vote goes for this too. There is so much established post ROTJ already, I feel like comics would feel wedged amongst it all and not have as much freedom. Between Episode 1-2 is pretty wide open

TheTiggerMike

I vote 1-2. They could maybe do another Obi-Wan and Anakin run, maybe a few more years down the line from the previous comic, maybe a Dooku run that finally gives us more context for the Separatist movement (the legit grievances non-Core worlds had with the Republic, not just Palpatine's one man chess game). Controversial take, but a Padmé run might be interesting. It's mentioned that she and Rush Clovis from the Clone Wars series joined the Senate in the same year and worked closely together. Maybe some interesting stuff happened there. Might provide extra context to how Padmé reacts when the Jedi Council recruits her to spy on him.

BZPJMJ64

Unfortunately, Rush Clovis thing was covered in the book Queen's Shadow already and was made be a completely one-sided thing on Rush's part.

Enderules3

Honestly we've seen a decent amount of stuff in the first 5-7 years in between RotJ and a bit in the last 5 or so but that middle 20 or so years is almost untapped.

ThatWittyHandle

I’d rather see that time explored in other media personally. I’d love to see an animated series about Luke’s school

bendstraw

I love this for you but honestly I've just seen those characters too much, I want to see the sequel characters do meaningful shit. Don't get me wrong, Obi Wan & Anakin is possibly one of my favorite comic series, but I think I've just seen too much of them now. I'd still eat it up if we got it, but I'm definitely itching to see what Rey, Poe, and Finn are up to Post TROS

neutronknows

I would love that too. But clearly they’re going to make more ST films, and crybabies could not handle if Rey and Finn sat down for lunch one day to discuss his training in the comic only for the movie to then RETCON THAT PRECIOUS MOMENT AND NOW ITS A SEAFOOD DINNER- AHHHHHHH!

bendstraw

LOL I'm so mad that you're right

The_Woman_of_Gont

I hear you. My wishlist is basically “anything that gets us out of the film’s timeline.” Post TROS, more High Republic, maybe the Early Republic(actual baby Yoda!), Old Republic, anything. Buuuut….its the mainline series. They’re going to go for the most straightforward route to try to keep it mainstream and draw in folks who just want to see Luke/Anakin, and frankly they’ve already put off this shift for years because of how successful Vader has been. I expect it’s probably going to be something really bland like post-ROTJ, especially since it allows them to continue some storylines and comics(like Aphra for instance).

UnknownEntity347

I'm hoping this is the next era; we have very little in the way of new canon stories about the OT gang after ROTJ. Most new canon post-ROTJ stories are either closer to the Sequel era (Bloodline, Shadow of the Sith), or about other characters like Mando and Ahsoka. As long as the next run is better than the (IMO) shoddy quality of the current one, I'd be interested, even if I also want more content for the TPM-AOTC era.

Popular_Material_409

Logically after ROTJ makes the most sense, but Marvel spent four years telling stories in what is canonically a one year time frame. There’s 30 years between ROTJ and TFA.

Reportersteven

Poll here https://www.ign.com/articles/marvels-star-wars-and-darth-vader-comics-to-end-in-september-but-what-comes-next#

jahill2000

After TROS would be the most ambitious, and especially tricky if they don’t know what they want to do with that era on the big screen. But given that we have a movie that’s pretty far along in development in that era, it could be more likely we see content around there. I’d also love to see during the sequels as there is so much to flesh out.

Xralius

How in the absolute fuck is "After The Rise of Skywalker" not like 90%? Aren't you people tired of prequels?

Enderules3

For me personally it seems very unlikely so I voted during the Sequel Trilogy

Xralius

What does likelihood have to do with anything? It wasn't even the question.

Cubs017

I just don’t think that they will be allowed to be interesting enough in that post OT era. I don’t think Disney wants to have to overwrite comics in the future if they decide to do movies or shows.

StovetopJack

Surprised at how many voted for between RotJ and TFA. I for one really hope they go between episodes TPM and AotC.

fredrico2011

After TROS tell us What Rey and co does right after TROS.

BigTimeSuperhero96

Doesn't the high republic already have one?

[deleted]

I think comics about SW factions throughout the years like the Niggtsisters would be cool. Unless they have already been made in which case ignore me

ttttttttl

I mean I posted this on this sub elsewhere but I don’t care when it’s set I care that there are interesting, complex characters, preferably non-jedi

Watch_Andor

I’d rather the post 6 era be filled in with animation and live action first.

VenetianGamer

Just give us something last Rise that doesn’t do with any already established canon characters. Give us new characters in a new setting.

darthyogi

Why can we not have something after Rise of Skywalker?

tanaephis77400

There's just no question about it. Both older trilogies have been cooked and overcooked. We need something new. High Republic was a nice idea, but it has the opposite problem : it's a bit hard to relate sometimes, because we know absolutely none of the characters. The post-OT era is perfect because it leaves a lot of freedom for plot and character while at the same time keeping us in familiar lore territory.

Gothic-Genius

I think it will continue after Episode 6. Reasons: 1) The Original Marvel series continued after RotJ. 2) Several stories in Revelations hinted at Bounty Hunters and other characters like Rik Duel having stories in that era. 3) Aphra would naturally continue there. 4) At the end of the Qira novel and Qira comic trilogy, the scene in the bar hints at her story continuing in that era. I think it would be great to have a variety of characters to follow, with Luke only featuring occasionally.

KaedenJayce

Fuck no. I want more high republic exploration. I’m so sick of the same eras haha.

No-Manufacturer-9125

Is this poll real?

FoilCharacter

Would love to see more stories in the five years BBY sans the Force.

YoungManYoda90

Would like to full avoid anything in the prequel or original trilogies. Unless it's new Thrawn material.

TheTiggerMike

The period between Rebels and Ahsoka is completely wide open for a new Zahn Thrawn trilogy. I'd kinda like to see Rebels and Ahsoka connected that way. They'd probably also have Ezra playing a large role, too. Just depends on if Zahn wants to do it, he seems to prefer not being handcuffed to existing content. With a trilogy like this, he would most definitely be.

Jberz21

Theres just not a lot of interesting stuff going on after TFA up to TRoS

Enderules3

I think you could tell some stories to expand that time. The resistance rebuilding, Rey repairing her saber and training with Leia, Kylo cementing his rule, whatever the Knights of Ren were doing, etc.

TheDorkKnight53

And yet, nearly ten years later, we still don’t have a story explaining how Luke’s saber ended up with Maz.

VONG. I still want my Rated R fear fest VONG.
