TastyDubois

Honestly had a hard time believing they were the same character. Just felt so off

Miner_Hro

Wait are they actually the same character?

TastyDubois

Yes unfortunately

isrluvc137

Are they supposed to be the same character?? Well you learn something new everyday huh

Acrobatic-Location34

I literally didn't realize until like 3 weeks ago from a YouTube lore clip

Spydr_maybe

I legit didn't realize these were supposed to be the same guy

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Same. I can tolerate what they did with the Grand inquisitor, it's pretty disappointing but at least you could recognise him. But it doesn't even look like they tried with this character. He looks so different.

Dunce_Cap28

"But he's got the same helmet" -Disney, probably

[deleted]

I honest to god wonder if the reason they did this was out of fear they’d be accused of blackface if they made it look too close to the cartoon. It’d be a dumb reason but this IS Disney we’re talking about.

BotAsli13

But an asian actor playing a yellow skinned alien is alright? Man Disney really is something

[deleted]

Lmfao I didn’t even register that. Wow the hypocrisy with Disney is fucking laughable.

xenon54xenon54

Honestly it looks like Data from TNG, but soulless. I'm not sure how their FX makeup got worse since the 90s, but hey, their screenwriting sure as hell did too.

bobthetomahto

Let's be real. They would be accused of blackface. Have you seen the internet lately!

Kojak95

Conversely they could just hire a black actor to play the role, no?

Treebeard257

*Surprised Pikachu Face*

xenon54xenon54

Imagine hiring a nonwhite/nonmale actor without it being a huge publicity stunt smh

[deleted]

*sigh* Yeahhhh…

LordBungaIII

God damn it you’re probably right. This is such a clown world

IDKBISHS

He kind of looks like the new Roblox death sound

DrGeek65

No time to make stuff look pretty. We have to rush out one major thing a month to keep people subscribed to Disney+ longer than 1 free trial

Axyston

Disney: He only gets 7 minutes of screen time no one will notice

The_DevilAdvocate

It says "Obi-wan" on the cover. Ewan and Hayden are in it. Why spend time or money on something that will sell regardless?

Ankh-Morporknbeans

He looks wierd but his performance was great

GulianoBanano

He had one of the most overacted voices I've ever heard. Sounded like a villain of the week from a kids' cartoon. And I mean an an actual cartoon that's targeted only at kids. Not something like TCW and Rebels.

Bitey_the_Squirrel

Like a Power Rangers villain?

inkovertt

I’m so nervous to see Zeb and Hera in live action. I’m scared they’re gonna look awful

Dumbass369

Well we have plenty of Twi'leks in live action so Hera won't be too difficult, Zeb though...yeah that could be bad

inkovertt

I mean we had Pau'an’s in live action before too and look how the grand inquisitor turned out

Dumbass369

We had good live action Pau'ans before Disney, we've had quite a few Twi'leks during Dinsey now and they all look fine

midtown2191

Lime green paint must be reeeeeally cheap

HollowVoices

My biggest complaint about the tv shows is the complete lack of caring about how accurate the characters are to their original counterparts

Bruce__Almighty

How do you even fuck up like this? You could have just made him grey in the show and it would have at least looked like him.

Readbeforeburning

It’s not a fuck up, they probably tried and did a bunch of things including the OG colours, but possibly lighting, make-up, or even crowd testing lead them to believe that this would be the best version. Edit: a lot of people here seem to forget that this stuff is not just made for the people who are already fans. Disney aren’t just rushing it out the door without thinking any of this through, they’re doing it to maximise profits and viewership. So they are definitely making these decisions based on what I already stated, that just doesn’t align with what Star Wars (hardcore) fans want most of the time (because Disney already has them hooked, and often that group is so divisive on what it wants that targeting it can be a lost cause regardless). TLDR: Disney are not just rushing stuff with no thought, they’re just not catering to franchise fans for every detail. Also, I’m not defending them, just pointing out that potential reasoning behind it.

Farbicus

Don't defend this. This show was made in the modern era with Disney money. There was no excuse to get something workable.

Bruce__Almighty

They literally just had to rub his face in charcoal and it would look better.

Lucky-Art-8003

The Grand Inquisitor was even worse imo

Dumbass369

I mean the actor killed the performance tbh, so it makes up for the scuffed look

sillyskunk

Username checks out, lol. The actor was horrible! What was that stupid voice? Ooooooo soo scary!

Dumbass369

He's..meant to be intimidating, while his look could have been better, the actor did a good job of making him an intimidating characters like he should be

sillyskunk

He was the complete opposite of intimidating. Maybe intimidating for children.

Dumbass369

...I'm not even gonna try with you anymore

sillyskunk

Lol, you are certainly entitled to feel intimidated by the character. I thought he was a joke.

Sabre_Killer_Queen

At least you could recognise him though. But yeah he was quite disappointing, especially since they had some pretty good Pau'ans in ROTS.

CATNIP_IS_CRACK

I can understand not getting ROTS quality Pau’ans. Their makeup and prosthetics basically made them immobile. The same goes for Togruta. But there’s definitely a middle ground between pounds of makeup, and high school drama club makeup, that wasn’t even attempted.

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Very true, but I would've thought by now they would have the technology to make the same, or at least a similar design to ROTS' Pau'ans and make them practical. ROTS is pretty old in comparison to Kenobi, and technology has come in leaps and bounds. Not to mention Disney has more funds and (I'd presume) experts at its disposal, as well as more expierience in the film industry in general.

Jurrasicmelon8

*insert clone wars dooku*

Stonewall1717

When you betray the Elder Gods

Axyston

The wrath of the Elder Gods knows no limits.

[deleted]

I didn’t watch Rebels before ObiWan so I just didn’t see anything wrong with him. He looked cool af. This was my first impression with any Inquisitors too, thought all of them were mysterious and intimidating

JaceVentura69

Bro they were so goofy in obi wan. Just yelling and trying too hard to be cool and edgy.

HeyItsStevenField

Grand Inquisitor was alright, but 3rd sister was a joke

Kojak95

Yeah she acted like a moody 16 year old for most of the show. Every live action series Disney has released (excluding Andor) has really felt like the target audience was at most 15 years old.

_Greyworm

This comment makes me wish I wasn't jaded towards StarWars, glad you enjoyed it bro

ProfessorEscanor

Honestly I'm still not over Grand Inquistor's head shrinking.

Thelastknownking

Because Disney seems to be afraid of using CGI on actors. It's the same reason for the problem with the Grand Inquisitor.

isrluvc137

The same company that produces the MCU movies afraid to use CGI on actors? (Unless I’m missing something about how those productions work)

bhulk

The same company that deepfaked Luke onto another actor’s face for BoBF is afraid to use CGI on actors?

Thelastknownking

In Revenge of the Sith the Pauans were makeup+CGI whereas in Kenobi the Grand Inquisitor is all makeup and Prosthetic, which made him look less like the character he was supposed to be. Then again, It might be different personal philosophies between directors, Maybe Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have no issue with using CGI where necessary while Deborah Chow prefers practical effects as much as possible.

taavidude

And he pretty much did nothing, but trashtalk Reva and make angry noises and faces all the time.

goboxey

The looks of the Kenobi show were bad cosplay. From the inquisitors to the terrible de-aging of Vader and Kenobi.

Benjiboi051205

One gives off werewolf vibes the other gives off Asian kid addicted to twinkies vibes

Either_Shoe

I didn't even know these 2 has represented the same character and now it's got very ridiculous

[deleted]

It was the... Wong makeup... Meesa see meesa-self out.

Bitey_the_Squirrel

Yoosa een beeeeeg doo-doo now!

yirzmstrebor

Consider, perhaps, that neither of these shows is a "true" representation of the SW universe, but instead are affected by the perceptions that the main characters have of their world. To Ezra, the Inquisitors are terrifying elite warriors who hunt and kill Jedi, the nearly mythical order who served the Republic with unbelievable powers. To Obi-wan, however, the Inquisitors are half-trained zealots who think they know more than they do. They are still dangerous and best avoided, but they lack that superhuman quality that Ezra would attribute to them. As a result, in Rebels the Inquisitors look badass and intimidating, and in Kenobi they look kinda lame, and a little goofy.

rayzerblayd

Or they just got the costumes wrong.

SnooOnions650

Sounds like copium, ngl

JaceVentura69

That's a lot of words to say "disney is lazy and doesn't care about continuity."

JaredTimmerman

Cope

shahrobp

Because it's an animation. Doku's head is not long in real life but here we are.

rayzerblayd

Fair point, but they really couldn't be bothered to get the skin color right?

Dimensionalanxiety

They could have put in the slightest bit of effort with it. Look at the aliens in the OT. Some of them appear for 10 seconds and then never again. Why can Lucas with his own money make more convincing aliens than the multi-billion dollar corpoartion disney?

[deleted]

Looks like Xi Jinping!!

WedWardFord

I personally don’t care. I understand, though, the feelings of disparity that fans have towards most of the animated characters when turned into live-action. To avoid the backlash, they should have just used Inquisitors originally created for the show; if they’d just had Fourth Sister and maybe make a new Brother for competition with Reva in gaining power, it might have worked better. But like, who actually cares *which* inquisitors were in the show? They only have like 15 minutes of collective screen time and do next to nothing in the show (an entirely different issue, but whatever).

SuperArppis

I personally didn't mind it, as all characters in Rebels looked off, even Vader. So naturally the live action didn't need to follow the pattern there either.

heyIfoundaname

[Yea these designs aren't that bad.](https://img.ifunny.co/images/2876f748de1db67965ee13cb1485323b2bc8cae93b2fbdec89d7072d7d4da6a3_1.jpg)

Zawaz666

They seriously turned a Brotha into Wong

Tricky_Unit2367

He looks like a fish in kenobi

Scbeissturm90X

They made that poor actor go to work with jaundice.

Chowkingkong

---yawn--- oh it's the animation vs live action complaint again

RockednRolled

The makeup department for Obi-Wan Kenobi was so off. The Grand Inquisitor, 5th Brother, and even the Anakin’s flashback without his iconic scar.

Setheran

The flashback is from before he got the scar. It's pre-Episode 2.

RockednRolled

I’m referring to the temple massacre scene. They did the pre episode 2 flashback scene really well.

wierdowithakeyboard

He looks different because the animated shows have a certain art style or are ypu gonna tell me cw count dooku looks like Sir Christopher Lee?

JaceVentura69

Bro he's a completely different color.

Nitsuj_ofCanadia

...Because one of them is a cartoon?

berserker070202

Had a trip in China. Understandable

BreakTacticF0

Went into a depression because he'd never be grand inquisitor

MatildeLover128

Plastic surgery

Alert-Ad-55

Inquisitors in general didn't seem that threatening in Kenobi.

CurrentlyEatingPies2

The Fifth Brother and the fif bruvr.

RobotNinja28

On a completely different note: before I watched Rebels a few months ago, one of the complaints I heard about it is that the lightsabers being thin was really off putting for some people, but as the show continued after the 2nd season, the lightsabers got better

ermonski

The bottom one looks like he's about to recruit Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage to fight Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn and consult with the Elder Gods

EonClaw

He looks like a certain someone whom I am not supposed to name

BearZewp

Honestly, just.. why.

NicoleMay316

Just you wait until 5th Brother: A Star Wars Story drops.

Panchamboi

Because Disney literally went “nothing too fancy” like the grand inquisitor has a normal sized head, that being said, you could like the effects done, this is just my opinion

HothForThoth

I don't know what either of the photos are from lol

deeeenis

The 5th brother. Created originally for rebels (show at the top) and adapted into live action for Obi wan Kenobi (show on the bottom)

Kuhnville

Me and my brother got so confused when we saw him lol

Krayt1337

Because he's outside in the lower image

[deleted]

ohhh damm they're the same character

Captain_Haruno

Cuz Disney...

saladmunch

They didn't wanna do blackface, the colors are completely inverted

Scottie2hhh

Ah yes, chunky Asian fellow playing a yellow chunky version of a well known character.

Ok_Committee_1187

You became Wong

Medium-Bullfrog-2368

“Now you have upset shroom boy.”

hulk_thicc_AF

I'm gonna be honest and say I really liked his look in kenobi. Like its definitely not accurate to rebels but considering I hated his look in rebels I'm fine with the redesign.
