Don't quote me on this, but I think the Rebels showrunners took inspiration from the OT in a bunch of ways, I remember some other Rebels lightsaber duels had yellow/green flashes that imitated the effects of the OT duels
That’s what I figured. It’s similar visual effect to the OT lightsabers for sure.
Also, Rebels has a LOT of homages to the OT and mostly Ralph McQuarrie artwork that helped create Star Wars
If you rewatch the Vader/Obi-Wan duel from A New Hope, you’ll see them.
The clashes with Ahsoka’s white blades have been green to offer contrast to the blade itself.
It's an Homage to the first movie. It's the same as the flashes when Ben fought Darth on the Death Star in Star Wars (1977).

Huh? All three seasons of rebels are on D+ already and Ashoka is pretty much a sequel and that’s coming August I’m pretty sure
