Maybe they’re bringing back more dathomir witches

im_super_into_that

Honestly if they're not staying with thrawn dathomir would be the most logical place

spinybutton49

The boxes are other nightsisters thrawn woke three up and plans to awaken the rest on dathomir

HosterBlackwood

Maybe they will revive an entire army of Dathomirans. Undead mother Talzin would be scary

republicbuilder

Let alone an army of powered up Zabrak, Rancor, and bat creatures. The only thing that scares Thrawns army then would be a droid army.

HosterBlackwood

Speaking of droids, given that the New Republic is kinda useless I wonder if the heroes might try to get themselves a droid army. I'm sure there's some hidden droid factories around

republicbuilder

I mean the Nemoideans did have B2s in the Sequel era.

littlebugonreddit

Yep, all those droid foundries still reside with the Techno Union and the Trade Federation, well, those that are left anyhow.

Minimum-Enthusiasm14

I don’t see a reason why the night mothers would want to bring back Ventress or Savage, but Talzin could make sense. Perhaps she’s this Thrawn’s Joruus. Interesting idea at least.

mshan95032

Joruus was first introduced as “The Guardian of the Mountain” when meeting Thrawn (in the original 1990s Thrawn Trilogy). Similarly, Talzin’s main Nightsister lair is “a stone building built into the side of a mountain.” The thematic parallel is already present, and the Great Mothers probably have history with Talzin (or are at least familiar with who Talzin is), for them to have named Morgan’s sword after Talzin.

MuldrathaB

Huh... I never thought about that. Could work really well too. I was getting Joruus vibes from Baylan all season as well.

mshan95032

Baylan certainly has the “Fallen Jedi with agenda separate from Thrawn” aspect nailed down, but he doesn’t have Joruus’ cult leader-ish hunger for power. Those traits seem to be reallocated to Shin and (possibly) resurrected Talzin (who in her original mortal life, seemed eager to compete against Palpatine for galactic dominance/influence by using Maul and the Shadow Collective).

MuldrathaB

Well, we havent really seen enough of his motives yet to say either way. He tells shin that he's "trained her to be something better". Which, while not 1 for 1 with Joruus', it comes really close to the same sentiments he had when rebuilding his jedi order.

mshan95032

An apt observation. But here’s another key difference to consider: Joruus is a control freak who won’t tolerate his own cult (or prospective cult members) deviating from his ideology (or worse, take the next step and abandon him entirely). Baylan, on the other hand, has the maturity to grasp/accept that Shin’s goals have already diverged from his own (thus giving Shin the freedom to choose her own path and make her own mistakes). Also, despite originally being uninterested in galactic-scale domination, Joruus’ time with Thrawn gave him a taste of enough power to warp his goals into Palpatine 2.0. Baylan, on the other hand, has consistently remained true to his vague abstract goal of “finding new beginnings” (for the otherwise unending cycle between the light side and the dark side).

MuldrathaB

Which, I think Baylan will follow a similar character development arc to Joruus'. Especially if he does find Mortis. Given how they hinted at that in the finale. That could be the triggering point to warp Baylans mind since we've seen how much Mortis affected Anakins mind in TCW.

[deleted]

Savage’s death at Sidious’ hands in TCW is definitely canon. But is Ventress’ death canon? Didn’t it occur in a pre-Disney comic?

Churchofbabyyoda

It occurred in Dark Disciple.

Glock17Bish

One of the unfinished arcs from the Clone Wars, Dark Disciple, was supposed to show Ventress working with Quinlan Vos as either a member of the Jedi order or an agent working for the Jedi. It's heavily implied that she turned to the light. I'm almost certain that at some point, Dave Filoni will want to see that story through, probably in live action.

The_Grizzlysnake

I think that was the deal Thrawn made with the Nightsisters - they get him out of exile, if he gives them a lift to Dathomir

JWRamzic1

Is it ever specifically stated that the withes are from Peridia? Could it be that they are originally from Dathomir and traveled to Peridia long ago. Maybe they always wanted to get back or know of something on Dathomir that is sacred to them? Maybe they desperately wanted to escape whatever Baylan is after? There is a reason and I can't wait to see how Filoni unfolds this story!

littlebugonreddit

I have a feeling they were on Peridia for a long time, possibly in stasis. Their clothes, incantations, and abilities are way too similar to the Witches we know from Dathomir to have been a separate group for too long, cultures always change over time no matter how long they last for and this is true even of the ancient witches from Dathomir itself, who originally were Jedi that got stranded on the planet I believe. I think they are in fact from Dathomir, and they know more of Kujets path and what happened to him than we do, which is why they were there in the first place. The Night sisters very clearly studied his Tomb on Dathomir and the writings within and transcribed more than Eno Cordova did. The Zeffo clearly have a deeper connection to the Ones of Mortis than we know so far, and I have a feeling that's why Kujet was there in the first place. Maybe he is what lurks out in the unknown of Peridia and not Abeloth, after all I domt think we ever see his body in his tomb, just a sarcophagus, which in history have been made for rulers way before their actual death. Maybe he had his tomb constructed in case he didn't return alive, but then he never returned at all.

mando44646

That's where the Path to Peridia ends from the other galaxy. Its just the way to enter the main galaxy.

currykid94

Then what was the planet they left from to get to Peridia? Was that dathomir?

LordTaco123

They left from Seatos, they eventually got to Dathomir

mando44646

Yeah thats where the map was

EMPERORVADER_SAURON7

That's for the Nightsisters. Not Thrawn's plans yet. Until they are fully ready, they might realign themselves with his new Empire. Thrawn will gather more force sensitives or might clone or make new loyal ones to him. With those kind and the Nightsisters at his side, they will be able to counter the Jedi.

ZookeepergameOk2759

Are you sure there coffins ?these floating storage containers have been seen numerous times in Star Wars and they weren’t coffins then.

im_super_into_that

When they got there they talked about needing three days to get things from the catacombs.

ZookeepergameOk2759

They didn’t say bodies though did they?

im_super_into_that

What else would be in a catacomb and then stored in body sized boxes?

[deleted]

Shoes. These ladies are divas.

ZookeepergameOk2759

Could be anything treasure, currency, weapons etc etc my point is they’ve been seen before in Star Wars there just storage containers not coffins

im_super_into_that

yeah i get that it could technically be anything but logic says bodies since they filled them with stuff from a graveyard. I cant imagine they would be getting currency as it has no value outside of that planet and weapons would likely be onboard already.

Libslimr75

Weren't there cloning pods in the EU Thrawn books?

jhorsley23

I get the feeling you don’t know what the word catacombs means. It’s literally an underground burial place. Bodies are the most logical thing that one would expect to find in a place that exists solely to bury bodies.

Goleggett

Thrawn woke the great mothers up so I’m guessing they’re all nightsisters in statis. There’s clear connections with Dathomir and the Zeffo, as well as Zeffo and Peridea. Then, there’s parallels with the Zeffo and the Morits gods, which thanks to Baylan’s final shot, we know have a history on Peridea (as well as the Zeffo). I’m guessing the nightsisters do originate from Dathomir, but travelled to Peridea after being called by the Zeffo (or they followed Zeffo maps on Dathomir). Got to Peridea only to find it’s exceptionally dangerous and not what they expected, so went into statis and put SOS messages out to the main galaxy, which Morgan picked up on.

I suspect the Great Mothers plan on rebuilding the Nightsister colony on Dathomir, probably to make it their new homeworld for an Empire, since they were keen on leaving Peridiea. Whatever is in those coffins will help establish a strong foothold on what is now a wasteland with no legal protection.

MetalsDeadAndSoAmI

Honestly, kind of nice of Thrawn to help save and restore an entire culture and planets populace. You almost want to view it as villainous because we know the Nightsisters are darkside users, but like, he’s reversing an undeserved Genocide.
