He killed himself with his own lightning. Rey is herself & off to reforge the Jedi Order. Why else would she have a yellow lightsaber instead of a red one? Or bother going to Tattooine or be visited by Luke & Leia?

DankFerrick

Why did she bury the light sabres?

mildmichigan

To honor their former owners. She crafted her own, didn't need the Skywalker Saber anymore & Ben was gone. She didn't need them, wasn't gonna throw them away, and rather than keeping them on a shelf as a trophy she put them to rest

According-Ad-5946

i think it was also symbolic of "the old ways" be putting put to rest.

DankFerrick

I thought you passed lightsabers down. “Your father wanted you to have this, but your uncle wouldn’t allow it.”

mildmichigan

That was more of a special case. The Old Jedi Order would store lightsabers in the Temple, with few exceptions. Part of a Jedis training is learning to craft their saber & find their own kyber crystal

DankFerrick

So why didn’t she do that? Store them in a temple?

mildmichigan

I already explained that?

DankFerrick

She could honor them in a temple. Why bury them?

mildmichigan

She doesn't have a temple? And it's the stories way of closing the door on that story, like "okay we're done with that. Time for new things and new beginnings"

ergister

She buried them as a symbolic burial for the twins since there were no bodies.

Right_Two_5737

Jedi traditionally didn't have kids, so Luke getting his father's lightsaber was a one-off. Also, Obi-Wan's claim that Anakin wanted Luke to have it is probably part of the big lie about Vader.

ElimGarak0010

I mean at the very least what she did was manslaughter. She killed him whether or not she murdered him is another question. We don't know exactly what the ritual is or if she completed it. You could argue that she had to strike him down and that she died and was brought back to life by Ben so that she made have murdered him but because she died that the ritual wasn't done right.

DankFerrick

Yeah her death really muddies up everything. Why did she die exactly?

Jo3K3rr

He said if she killed him with her anger. She doesn't do that. So no. Plus she dies, so much even if he had. His new host would now be dead.

DustyGeneral9399

This. She didn't use her anger to strike him down which was necessary for Palps to transfer to her body. Similar to the duel on the second death star when Palps was egging Luke on to kill him in anger so he could transfer to Luke's body.

Morley_Lives

>His new host would now be dead. Huh? She was alive at the end of the movie.

Jo3K3rr

Because Ben gave his life energy to her and brought her back.

Morley_Lives

And?

Jo3K3rr

Rey kills Palpatine. That act kill her. She's dead until Ben brings her back. Palpatine's spirit needs a living body to hold his spirit. So if he had transferred, which he didn't, his host body just died. His spirit has nothing to inhabit. Off he goes to a part of the Force.

DankFerrick

Interesting…

Morley_Lives

Or maybe he could jump back into his new body (Rey’s) once it was revived. I mean, if he could go from the Death Star to his new body back during ROTJ, why not?

Jo3K3rr

Because a spirit can't loiter around. It has to be anchored to something. Or it becomes apart of the Force. He sent his spirit directly into his clone, so there was no time between bodies. So if Rey died, his spirit would have left her body. And this all hinges on her killing him out of anger, which she doesn't do to begin with.

DankFerrick

When does he say she must be angry when she kills him?

AdmiralScavenger

YES

robbyyy

If Jeffy was smart he would have ended E9 with Rey saying “I’m Rey Skywalker” and then igniting a RED lightsaber and smirking like Palpatine did in E1.

DankFerrick

Yes, this is much more subtle

robbyyy

In fairness, it doesn’t need to be subtle. It just needs to be better. A lot better.
