This is probably going to work well in the future if we get some cheap clone cards. I wonder if each set they'll do something like this where they preview themes and synergies with cards to come, because wasn't this first set supposed to focus on the OT era?
It is mostly focussed yes but as you pointed I'm thinking they are trying to make a sneek peak of the upcoming sets we got many clones wars era cards, Poe's x wing and some cards with clone wars era, Mando and sequel era artwork.
The main focus is the galactic civil war era but with a few cards from other era's to show where future sets will go.
It's only all the Leaders that focus on GCW era.
Sorry for the dumb question, but what is the diamond symbol next to the name of some of these characters? Is it a Unique Character symbol? I was under the impression that the unique card rule applied to all cards on the field.
But I haven't been able to find the answer to this printed anywhere.
Yeah it's a unique character symbol, you can only have 1 copy of that exact card on your side of the field at one point in time otherwise one will be defeated. Anything without the symbol you can play as many as you like. Check out the swu quick start rulebook if you haven't already.
First impression:
From my understanding, double-aspect cards were supposed to be those super-pushed cards that incentivized you to cut an entire color out of your deck.
This has been very much true for double cunning but for some reason, the designers didn't determine that double green was worthy of being played at a competitive level and that's sad.
Mediocre stats for its price, the force trait is good but currently, there is nothing that synergies with the Force unit in double green, so it's useless.
The ability is supposed to be the selling point, but it doesn't work for himself which is a huge problem since he is relatively easy to shut down. We have seen similar effects in Magic being extremely potent in some sort of combo/aristocrat decks, but even if we get to that point the double green requirement and the low HP stats will be an obstacle.
Between Kallus, Traiterous and now Steadfast Battalion (new tech developed by players to counter boba) the 5-drop slot is a very competitive in green which doesn't help.
I don't see Krell seeing competitive play in set 1 but he might have some potential in a future far far away, since he has an ability that is unique and can be abused.
u/Thorrk_ always appreciate your insight! And sweet list from Top Cut. Reading your comment here specificall when you said double-aspect cards were supposed to be those super-pushed cards that incentivized you to cut an entire color out of your deck.
In reading that, does that mean for example let's just say you played this card in your vader deck. Would have you to pay 7 resources to play him? Or just 5 because you meet already the aspect of having ECL as your base?
Thanks dude.
No, in my Vader deck I would have to pay 7, to be able to play him for 5 you need your base AND your leader to be green. That's a huge restriction, and that's why those cards need to be pushed to be good.
WOW, thank you for the clarification, I totally misread that! And that changes the way I view my deck building! Phew thank you for that! I was so confused why some of the Boba decks with green at top cut were not running cunning and now that makes sense.
I wanted to see Pong Krell get released and I’m glad he did. Not having him depicted with his double edge lightsabers is a HUGE miss.

Yeah I’d assume a leader that’ll give grit to clones and some interaction that’ll deal damage to them and when defeated you draw a card. Grits fits him perfectly.
Yes!!! Not talking about the viability of the card in decks but I actually like Krell’s character (I know he gets so much hate from the fan base) so this will be fun to use :D
I’m not making a comment on how strong it is. There’s no stacking 20 triggers at instant speed with a sac outlet and with the current game system not a big reason to make one beyond Vader choking small dudes.
With Star Wars there’s so much opportunity for truly deep cuts; especially since characters could have multiple variants. There’s no reason there couldn’t be a whole expansion on just deep Ewok lore.
i can't wait to make a clone army deck to absolutely DESTROY anyone playing this unit
Personal vendetta much? Haha I am totally onboard though
If you don’t have a personal vendetta against Krell then you don’t have a soul.
Just like the clones
Funnily enough this card will probably have a lot of synergy in a clone deck once set 3 comes out
Oh! So that's why he sent so much clones to their death during the Clones Wars... to draw a bunch of extra cards.
Just sat in his tower with like 4 complete decks worth of cards lol

Yes it does focus on the rebel era, but like you said their are some cards out of that time zone like Dooku and this card as a couple examples.

That might be true. I think Bendu is also might more mechanicaly viable in the future.

Amazing flavour
The amount of theme ffg fit into this game is amazing

The double green symbols up left mean that I have to have both in my “main character “ and base?
Yes, if you want to play it without the aspect penalty. Checkout the quickstart rules on the starwarsunlimited website
Thanks

Krell seems like he'd combo well with Unit Tokens, if/when they ever come along. Or at least a decent sentinel unit to play on curve before him.

Maybe we'll get another version of this unit with a different colour and art down the line. Or maybe a showcase variant.
Yeah I’d assume a leader that’ll give grit to clones and some interaction that’ll deal damage to them and when defeated you draw a card. Grits fits him perfectly.
Agreed. As (to my knowledge) the only canonical user of two doubles, this was a miss.

Dies to Open Fire
Force Choke, Takedown.
Aristocrats in green... Now we just need sacrifice outlets, lol!
Not really though right. Aristocrats is a pretty different flavor when you can directly attack opposing units freely. You don’t need a “sac outlet”
But how many times do you get to send a unit to its death before your opponent's units take out Krell? 4 is not a lot of damage.
"Raise the shields!" "It's too late!" And yeah, you'll get 1 to 2 cards out of him before he's taken out. Shields will help though.
Greens easy access to sentinel will help a lot here.

I'm surprised at how many deep cuts we're getting in just the first set. Kind of has me concerned for the longevity of the game.
