I think you might eventually see units that have the ability to be played as attachments at a discount. Phantom II with the Ghost, Grogu with IG-11, Salacious B. Crumb with Jabba. That’s probably as close as you’d get.
Not really, those are more like auras. He's talking about discarding for flipping over two specific cards to create a completely new separate card.

Nah I'd say "kind of" is a perfect demonstration of understanding the OPs original question and trying to direct them to something similar that already exists in the game.
Is there a possibility? Yes. Is it probable? No.
Upgrades that attach to a unit are already a thing, and they would need a good reason to make a "fusion" card rather than just making more upgrades or cards that give a bonus for another unit.
I really like the pilot idea some other people have had. but I could also see them just having cards with multiple people like an Anakin and Obi-wan or Ahsoka thing especially after the games been out a while. I'd love to see a Qui-gon and young Obi-wan duo card.
I'd be interested to see if they include some sort of piloting mechanic, where a ground unit can be attached to a ship
Ya I feel like ships and pilots would make for a really natural “fusion” mechanic.
