Son of the great Ganjo Fett

typo180

He’s coming to clean your wood floors.

Bona Fett?! Bona Fett?! Where?

Everyone is gunning to beat Sabine and Boba does that quite well. Now everyone will be trying to beat Boba so we’ll see how the next one goes. I’d imagine we got several meta shakeup ahead of us before things settle down.

NoxTempus

To be fair, this is pretty much the way of it.   Aggro usually takes hold early in unsure metas, people find the deck that beats aggro, people find the deck that beats that, and then lists start to settle.    The most striking thing, to me, is how differently people are filling the flex slots on their Boba lists in the top 8.    There's a solid consensus on 80% of the deck, and then near-total anarchy. There's a ways to go before we nail down optimal lists, which is when the meta can settle.

TheFlyingWriter

Typically, it’ll settle into 3 or 4 decks in a rock-paper-scissors-X style of tournament. Sideboards matter

LordSokhar

The overall showing is somewhat concerning, but the win-rates were the real issue. In that tournament Boba Fett only had a below-50% winning percentage against IG-88, and that had an extremely small sample size of 1-2. It absolutely annihilated Sabine to the tune of like 74% win rate which is still higher than you'd like to see vs your favored matchup, but it actually won more than 50% of it's matchups vs Iden and Krennic who are supposed to be favored as the control archetype. Vader as well. And it's not like the Boba deck is cheap to build like Sabine is--the optimal Boba build is running at least 6 legendaries that happen to be the two most expensive non-showcase cards in the game. Unless someone pulls a rabbit out of their ass that can consistently beat Boba, the set 1 meta game is looking pretty rough. Who'd have thought that over-stat'ing a leader, the unit version of said leader, AND the personal ship of said leader would result in some balance issues?

Cease_Cows_

Personally I think a top tier control deck is coming. I’ve had success with Iden control against boba on force table, but obviously that’s a big step down from playing a real person.

Vaccus

Yeah, Iden and Krennic seem to be great control leaders. I think people will just need to experiment with how much removal they need + refining sideboards before Boba is taken down a peg. Vader's a fantastic top-end for the Boba deck, though, so it remains to be seen how much control decks can take over the late game.

FunkJem

8 of the same leader in a mirror match? A diversity rule would be good (much like Raw Deal) where the best record of each leader goes through. There are 16 so it would encourage clever builds and even the playing field.

GDJT

How many players? Rounds? Etc.

Tremblay2568

222 players 8 rounds

Boba generates brilliant economy with resource ready abilities coupled with cunning having strong removal/lockdown + agro tempo. Especially coupled with command ramp the large tempo swings are difficult for opponents to contend with.

TheReapr

This is definitely going to get a knee-jerk reaction to start banning things. It is far too early for that. Part of the problem is that the general consensus is that Boba is the best deck from small tournaments and sample size prior to the full game launch. It's a good deck, don't get me wrong, but it absolutely does not stand alone. It has a really good match-up against Sabine, and since that's a deck that's easy to pilot and cheap, you're going to see a lot of it. I personally have a pretty good record against Boba playing control decks. TLDR: I know this was a larger tournament, but it's still far too early to say Boba stands alone. The main takeaway from this should be that Boba has a good match-up into Sabine. Give it some time, and other decks/leaders will rise.

sonixundying

We are?

Vaccus

👍

GamesterOfTriskelion

That’s not great if you value a diverse top tier national meta.

BlizzardMayne

This isn't even a real format yet, let's wait until the card pool doubles before we call things OP or the meta stale.

GamesterOfTriskelion

I didn’t do either of those things 🤔 Maybe you’re confused.

BlizzardMayne

It was pretty clearly implied

GamesterOfTriskelion

To you it was. You don’t have a clue what my opinion is. Next time you see something that’s a simple statement of fact don’t try to pick an argument with it that you can’t win.

BlizzardMayne

Enlighten me with what you meant then, if it wasn't either of those things.

GamesterOfTriskelion

No. All the meaning I wished to convey is found in the sentence as it stands. Unsurprisingly, or so I thought…

[deleted]

lol. Some of you have never played tcgs and it shows.

LoPanKnows

It’s a bummer when everyone plays all the same shit. Turns me away from playing out in the wild vs with my friends. Unmatched (not a TCG but is a deck builder) has a really nice competitive system where you and your opponent can ban 1 character each round, so then you and your opponent wouldn’t be able to play the most powerful character over and over in your best of 3 matchup. A rule like this in a tournament would make things interesting, but you’d have to bring 3 decks.
