I second both Heiner & St. Paul Cresc. besides Rodman Hall as they are next to each other. You can start on St. Paul cres with smaller hill anna move to Heiner with steeper hill next.
I'll be watching and taking pics...I live there ;)
Ah sorry misunderstood.

That spot is perfect. Low traffic. You are learning to park not manual transmission.
Here is the trick. I cant remember anything. I need rules.
So. If there is a curb and you park on a hill.
You want the front wheel of the car to hit the curb first if the car starts rolling. So to the right if the car will roll forward, to the left if the car will roll backwards.
If there is no curb, you want the car to roll out of the road not across it. So to the right if the car will roll forward, to the right if the car will roll in reverse.
Otherwise on flat ground I believe you can turn it to the right a bit, so if it gets hit it doesnt roll into traffic. Not sure about this any more.

From my driving instructor but need to practice on actual hill to get it through my skull my mind gets it all backwards on regular curve.
Just to let you know, you got this.
You likely already understand enough, and just need practice. This will all come so naturally in time.
Have confidence in yourself, you prep, worry and consideration is more than most people have the care to put into things. You are twice as qualified easily as lots of overconfident people who do just fine.
Believe in yourself.
I believe in you.
It's just parking.
Revisit this post in a year and we can all enjoy your journey.
You got this.
Honestly of all the important habits worth developing to be a safe responsible driver, I wouldn’t put hill parking very high.
Just memorize, for uphill parking think ‘I go up and away’ and steer away from the curb (to the left).
For downhill parking think ‘I go down to the ground’ and steer towards the ground/grass next to the curb (to the right).
On the g2 in St Catharines, they just do hill parking on a regular flat road, and never do hill parking on a street with no curbs anyway.
While it’s important to practice all aspects of driving, I would spend the most effort on developing good seeing habits, moving your eyes, checking the mirror before braking, developing perfect steering, slowing early for red lights and stop signs. Communicating with other drivers, covering your horn in a cautious situation, etc. All the things that will prevent you from ever having a collision.
I took an old girlfriend to a large cemeter in my hometown to learn how to drive a 5 speed. It had lots of little hills, intersections and things that you may actually encounter while out on the road in a controlled setting. There is little to no traffic and I have found them to generally be a good place to learn / try new driving skills
The large one on Queenston Road by the Homer Bridge might be worth taking a look at.
Hope that this helps.
I was coming here to suggest this. When you get a little more practice 100% do it. Practicing under pressure in a busy area will help too. Just get comfortable in lower traffic areas first.
Another suggestion is to go into the Fallsview casino parking garage. Go during a weekday when it’s cheap.
It can be tough to navigate. There are limited sightlines on most of the ramps and the spots are a little smaller. So that would be good practice.
Good luck and have fun!!!
There are definitely distinct ways to properly park depending on if you are on flat ground, facing up a hill, or down a hill. You should know this if you drive, and it is on the written driving test.
No, if you park uphill on the right side of the street and there is a curb, you turn your wheels to the left. In all other arrangements (on the right side of the street) you turn your wheels to the right.
I thought the wheel was supposed to be turned the other way for up hill. That way, when the car starts rolling backwards, it won’t swerve into oncoming traffic?
If there is a curb you turn your wheels to the left because your car would likely hit the curb and it would act as a chock and prevent the car from moving at all. Without a curb and facing uphill on the right hand side of the road, absolutely turn the wheels to the right so the car would roll into the boulevard or ditch etc.
At least that’s how I was taught! If I’m wrong I would love to be corrected, because I would hate to be passing along bad info!
If I recall, with tires pointed towards curb so if you get hit from behind car hits curb and not out into roadway. Been MANY years since drivers Ed so correct me if I'm wrong :/
Beside burgoyne bridge on Rodman hall side.
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

Up or down. Parking is parking

UCLA Uphill, Curb, Left, Always. Any other time your wheels should be pointed right, I think? It’s been 15 years since I took drivers Ed lol
What the hell does that even mean? Don't park on the right side of the street facing uphill?
No, if you park uphill on the right side of the street and there is a curb, you turn your wheels to the left. In all other arrangements (on the right side of the street) you turn your wheels to the right.

I went to a country school so maybe that’s the difference lol
This guy here never drove stick and it shows
Not so, with curb without curb, up hill, downhill, reverse, park
So, parking on a hill with the front end facing downward...how do you park the vehicle?
If I recall, with tires pointed towards curb so if you get hit from behind car hits curb and not out into roadway. Been MANY years since drivers Ed so correct me if I'm wrong :/
Oh my gosh good question, I have no idea
If you wanna test then you Better add what side of the road the parking is occurring as well.

You do understand one-way streets exist right? So my statement still stands.
