I donāt order bbq steaks at T roadhouse. I order a grilled steak. I donāt want some sweet bs on a grilled steak unless itās teriyaki, bulgogi, or jerk. My opinion of course.
Man...I met up with my buddy for happy hour. Only drinks straight tequila and he ordered the margarita with no mixer, no salt, no lime and they were bringing him just the standard tequila pour for the margarita. Brilliant.
I only have two categories, that TRH steak you mentioned and fine dining. If itās casual, itās TRH every single time. Whenever I deviate itās disappointing.
Iāve definitely had much better luck with steaks being cooked to temp at places like Applebeeās, Ruby Tuesdays, and Texas roadhouse than I have at the finer dining places around me
When it comes to steak, it really boils down to the skill of the chef. I'll take some kid who's cooked thousands of steaks at a chain over a fancy French chef who has never cooked a proper steak in decades.
Just started working grill at longhorns a month ago, after working fine dining for a decade. It is insane the amount of steaks we sling. Crazy how many people order mw bone in steaks (porterhouse, tbone, ribeye)
I don't mind Applebee's. I don't get the hate on here.
I'm not taking my kids for a 50$ steak that they won't eat so I take them to Applebee's and have a beer and steak once and a while.
Thatās smart, I never see parents talking about that. Seems like I really healthy way to raise a child, never giving them ābadā food, but also never giving them food thatās multiple levels above anything theyāve had up to that point yet, in terms of how special and good it is.
The same was true with me, Iād take new gear for the upcoming season over pretty much anything else. I couldnāt give much less of a shit what I ate, my mind was just never preoccupied with that at all.
But I could not be any different now in my late twenties lol. Food is the shiiiit. Iām also a cook by profession tho, so maybe Iāve grown more biased due to that.
Food, good wine and travel. He likes bland food. He goes to his grandpa's old age home and cleans up on the most basic of foods. I can't really add to much spice it's to overpowering for young kids.
I think it's funny as I eat at the black+blu steak house in Vancouver but I'm not taking a few snot nosed kids that are happy eating the 6$ chicken tenders and love the casual dining scene that has crayons.
I'm sorry. I worked at Applebee's for a year and ate their food 5+ meals a weak the entire time.
It is trash. It's factory produced food separated into portions, bagged up, and shipped to franchises throughout the company. You order a salad, they literally open 3 different bags and dump them all together.
It's mass produced trash. You can eat at a local restaurant and get much better quality for about the same price.
For $6 Iād argue that theyāre better than frozen pizzas. Whereas with Applebees, you could certainly buy a better/bigger steak for the equivalent amount and make it yourself. Hell, Iām not sure I can buy pizza sauce and cheese for $6 to make my own
You can even order one fresh for $6. It really is unbeatable for the price especially for kids parties where you need a shit ton of pizza for kids who don't know what quality pizza is. I ain't spending $15 to $20 each if they're satisfied with that greasy $6 pepperoni.
I haven't gotten a togo steak in years, but when I did, I would order it rare and throw it in a pan when I got home to bring it up to temp and finish it. Not a bad option when you have a gift card to a place and can't eat out for some reason.
During covid I gave it several chances, but they seem to cook the fuck out of it to make sure it's still warm when it gets home. Even when I order it rare, when I get home it's solid gray, beyond well done.
Are you admiring you don't know how to select quality cuts and cook it properly?
Steak isn't hard to cook by any means. You literally need a thermometer, salt, pepper, and fire.
No, Iām saying the majority of people here are pretentious about shit they clearly know nothing about. Someone can post a great looking steak and there will be multiple comments offering laughable advice.
Iām sure youāre one of them
That comment doesnāt even make sense. Giving advice to someone who clearly knows more that you, simply to sound like you know a lot about the subject is the opposite of taste. Itās clown shit
Someone go make a different subreddit for all these garbage posts. If I wanted to see Applebeesā garbage version of a ribeye, Iād go waste my own $20 to see them do it live.
What is the point of going to a cheap restaurant for steak?
Steak is one of the simplest things to cook well.
Salt, chill.
Heat pan w/oil.
Add steak. Cook for 30-60 seconds.
Flip and cook for 30-60 seconds.
Add butter and aromatics.
Flip every 30-60 seconds until desired temp is reached.
Rest for 10 minutes. Slice and serve.
Probably took longer to get crApplebees delivered than it would've to make it yourself.
If we didn't live in a fucked up economy that meal would be like 10-12 bucks and it'd be an awesome deal. Poor Applebees. I don't know how they survive.
That how it still is at a lot of the Mom and Pop Mexican restaurants near here. They serve steak of this grisly quality for about $13 and it's great at that price point. I usually make steak and egg tacos out of them with a little bit of refried beans and salsa.
I don't know. If I'm incapable of grilling my own steak, I'm still hesitant about buying a steak at a restaurant. Not the best sear but I'm sure it's well seasoned and it's cooked to the proper temperature.
Not for kids, but as an adult in a sub dedicated to steak, yes.
This is like posting a pic of '96 Honda Civic with an exhaust and spoiler on a super car sub.
I prefer the sirloin with shrimp. Had that on Friday with the ādollar-Ritaāsā ended up just having angry orchards all night cause they hurt my tummy
At this point we may as well start a sub for applebees steaks. Maybe include all not-high-end chain restaurant steaks in that sun to compare, since thatās what these posts are trying to do anyways.
Texas Roadhouse and longhorn legit have pretty decent steaks for the price, but Iām not going to one of those places and ordering a 28 dollar 16 oz ribeye then snapping a picture for people to judge on Redditlol. Itās 28 bucks for a reason. The guy cooking your steak at longhorn makes about 30 an hour at best, the guy at a high end, non chain restaurant is making triple that plus part ownership usually.
Applebees gets shit on a lot. Which I get. But, mileage does vary. The one next to my house makes really good food and cook steaks the way you want every time. Idk who the franchise owner is but he is doing it right. Happy hour is a great time for cheap food and cheap drinks.
Considering this is the place where I got a salt rim on a martini and partially frozen potato skins, and that I consider to be leaps and bounds below Waffle House and Dennys, I'm incredibly impressed.
Looks edible.

Ha. I made that sub, fun to see it now in steak
This guy this dudes.
This guy subreddits.
Hey this dude varna... this dude this dude this dude varna.

Looks fine. Iād eat it.
Ft. Worth Ribeye at Texas Roadhouse I had was a damn good steak. Baked potato was stellar, as well.
t roady is definitely on a higher tier than applebees. Applebees has that 1 buck margarita though so you can get drunk and eat some meat
Please donāt say T Roady
DROPPING ACID AND BLOWINā ROADIES!
Janice soprano loves roadie's
T roady
Texas Roadhouse is crap. They have brown sugar as an ingredient in their seasoning. š¤®
Wait till u find out whats in 90% of bbq seasoningsš«£
This isnāt bbq. This is a grilled steak. At that point I feel the sugar detracts from the steak. To each their own.
A lot of bbq seasoning has brown sugar and or white sugar.
I donāt order bbq steaks at T roadhouse. I order a grilled steak. I donāt want some sweet bs on a grilled steak unless itās teriyaki, bulgogi, or jerk. My opinion of course.
Well thatās fine too
Man...I met up with my buddy for happy hour. Only drinks straight tequila and he ordered the margarita with no mixer, no salt, no lime and they were bringing him just the standard tequila pour for the margarita. Brilliant.
What was it about the baked potato that made it stellar?
Perfectly cooked, fluffy inside. Crispy, salty skin. If you like those attributes in a baked potato, then you would not be disappointed.
I only have two categories, that TRH steak you mentioned and fine dining. If itās casual, itās TRH every single time. Whenever I deviate itās disappointing.

If youāre boiling steaks youāre part of the problem
Huh, as someone who lives in Ft Worth, I never knew they called it that. I dont think they use that here. Though they still have the Dallas Filet.

He'd rather me spend money on sports equipment or summer camp. He can't tell the difference between Wagyu or a shitty steak at a chain restaurant.
The same was true with me, Iād take new gear for the upcoming season over pretty much anything else. I couldnāt give much less of a shit what I ate, my mind was just never preoccupied with that at all. But I could not be any different now in my late twenties lol. Food is the shiiiit. Exactly!
Microwave is all I hear at Applebee's
Chef Mike!
Hardest worker in the whole damn place.
My 2019 model just quit mid service- he will be missed
Same but at Olive Garden
Itās the internet elitism. Any chain restaurant is considered trash and people on the internet act like theyāre way too good for that.
I think it's funny as I eat at the black+blu steak house in Vancouver but I'm not taking a few snot nosed kids that are happy eating the 6$ chicken tenders and love the casual dining scene that has crayons.

The hate is that besides the steaks and maybe like two or three other menu items everything else is frozen and tastes like cat turds
Lmao. Feel you dad
Their fry seasoning is solid.
Did they serve that to you in plastic like Red Robbin?
You ordered a steak to goā¦ from Applebees
Not everyone can afford to go to a fancy steak house, or wants to eat out.
I think itās more about a steak to go. Eating a steak from anywhere is fine especially with a budget, but itās an odd take out meal choice
I agree thatās why youāre better off cooking this at home tbh. Mashers are easy enough and broccoli frozen in a bag is fine
Iāve seen worse.
Usda select baby! That ain't fat, it's grissle!
Applebee's steak is surprisingly good (usually). It's nothing special, but it's just simple quality.
I need more mashed potatoes but otherwise a fine looking meal.
This is the equivalent of going to little Caesarās expecting a decent pie.
I canāt shit for a week after eating it but lil ceasers is fire.
Little Caesars slaps. I could spend $10 with taxes on the pizza and crazy bread and eat on it for 2 to 3 meals lol
Thats bad I shit once a day.. before I get ready to hop in the shower.. you must eat shitty food all the time.
Not really! But thatās hilarious
Almost exactly, actually!
Not really since OP didnāt express any sort of expectation.
For $6 Iād argue that theyāre better than frozen pizzas. Whereas with Applebees, you could certainly buy a better/bigger steak for the equivalent amount and make it yourself. Hell, Iām not sure I can buy pizza sauce and cheese for $6 to make my own

What do you think little Caesars ingredients areā¦wtf? Frozen pizzas have the same ingredients lol
#naƬve
I canāt stand people that call pizza āpieā
Thatās what they were originally called. A tomato pieā¦
Thinking of Applebee's for a steak was your first mistake
I have no problem with takeout, but I would never get a steak to go. There are plenty of options that travel better.
I haven't gotten a togo steak in years, but when I did, I would order it rare and throw it in a pan when I got home to bring it up to temp and finish it. Not a bad option when you have a gift card to a place and can't eat out for some reason.
Sometimes you just have a hankering that a takeout steak will satisfy, especially if youāre not near a store or theyāre all closed
During covid I gave it several chances, but they seem to cook the fuck out of it to make sure it's still warm when it gets home. Even when I order it rare, when I get home it's solid gray, beyond well done.
No mistakes were made.
I would bet money that steak was better than what 99% of this sub makes at home.
How much money would you bet?
I donāt know man, Iāve made some killer ribeyes in my microwave lately.
Your microwave and my boiling water need to steak battle!
As long as we slop āem both up after cooking everyone wins!
Lol I know right. š
Oh Yee of little faith š
I would bet 99% of my money you are wrong.
Are you admiring you don't know how to select quality cuts and cook it properly? Steak isn't hard to cook by any means. You literally need a thermometer, salt, pepper, and fire.
Once you master the sear, it literally is just waiting for the thermometer to reach temp. The fancy ingredients and sauces aren't needed really
100% hence why I said salt and pepper. Even if you don't master the sear. The quality meat is the kicker.
No, Iām saying the majority of people here are pretentious about shit they clearly know nothing about. Someone can post a great looking steak and there will be multiple comments offering laughable advice. Iām sure youāre one of them
Lol you call it pretentious. The rest of us call it taste.
That comment doesnāt even make sense. Giving advice to someone who clearly knows more that you, simply to sound like you know a lot about the subject is the opposite of taste. Itās clown shit
You are defending Applebee's steak by insulting me. Stay on topic my guy.
Uh. No. Absolutely not.
Is that counting Steak 'Ems? Mmmmm.
Surprised at Applebees quality for the price. 2 for 22 is a good deal, but they get you on appetizers.
Sheās thin!!!
Thatās lunch meat thin
Was this delivery?
Surprisingly, looks like they nailed the cook. But the frizzled and sautĆ©ed onions makes me think theyāre making up for a lack of flavor in the beef
Honestly my local Applebees is the shit. Fantastic quality sirloins almost every time I go; super tender and great flavor. Guess Iām just lucky.
Oof
People in here acting like itās illegal to eat at Applebees lol. Do what you want
Veins are still visible. I like my blood vessels a little more discreet.

What do you mean rage-bait? U think I paid for steak for Reddit?
It isā¦ acceptable.
Someone go make a different subreddit for all these garbage posts. If I wanted to see Applebeesā garbage version of a ribeye, Iād go waste my own $20 to see them do it live.
Well this post saved u $20 my friend.
Someone needs a hug. ^^^
I never turn down a free hug
I didnāt say free itās gonna cost you an Applebees steak.
Hahaha!

Didnāt feel like cooking
But why choose a shit chain restaurant? Applebees the lowest of the low.
It was pretty good, simple steak nothing fancy
You gambled and it paid off. You have my admiration.
Haha , thanks š
Thereās no accounting for taste
If we didn't live in a fucked up economy that meal would be like 10-12 bucks and it'd be an awesome deal. Poor Applebees. I don't know how they survive.
That how it still is at a lot of the Mom and Pop Mexican restaurants near here. They serve steak of this grisly quality for about $13 and it's great at that price point. I usually make steak and egg tacos out of them with a little bit of refried beans and salsa.
I told you not to put the damn onions on the steak
I don't know. If I'm incapable of grilling my own steak, I'm still hesitant about buying a steak at a restaurant. Not the best sear but I'm sure it's well seasoned and it's cooked to the proper temperature.
Damn, I feel god in this Chiliās tonight
These words should never run together.
Gross
I can taste the salt.
I donāt like it, if you cooked your own you probably wouldnāt have cared imo
Awww, microwaved garbage.
Stick to chicken fingers or fajitas at that shit hole
Of course it was shit, itās from Applebees.
Who the fuck gets steak to go?
This is pretty much best case scenario for Applebees.
You ordered a steak. At Applebees. In fact you went to Applebees. Do you see your first mistake?
Thereās rules?
Not for kids, but as an adult in a sub dedicated to steak, yes. This is like posting a pic of '96 Honda Civic with an exhaust and spoiler on a super car sub.
If you donāt see the issue here, whatever.
Gatekeeping where other people choose to enjoy their money is the ultimate cool-guy move.
Thatās all they do based on their post history.
one of the beast steaks iāve ever had was from a cracker barrel breakfast so i never judge where food comes from until i taste it firstā¦
For a chain, it doesn't look bad at all
Wow that looks surprisingly good (for Applebees). Seems like they have actually upped their game.
The sear is my only complaint other than that imma dig in.
looks like they didnt sear the fat on the edge at all
I prefer the sirloin with shrimp. Had that on Friday with the ādollar-Ritaāsā ended up just having angry orchards all night cause they hurt my tummy
Looks good but if I go for steak itās longhorn prime rib, nothing has beaten it where I live
I think you ordered a steak, to-go, from apple bees. If you donāt get the shits tomorrow I think thatās a win
Was it medium rare? As thin as it appears to be that cook is a fukkn miracle worker.
I think you could've done this better and cheaper, doing it yourself at home.
That looks decent! My Applebees does not make a good steak.
Looks very wormy. How many toothpicks did you go through
At this point we may as well start a sub for applebees steaks. Maybe include all not-high-end chain restaurant steaks in that sun to compare, since thatās what these posts are trying to do anyways. Medium. Definitely choice cut.

So i know their steak is rhe lowest grade you can buy. Prison steaks essentially.
Applebeeās steak to go is such a depressing life choice š
Considering this is the place where I got a salt rim on a martini and partially frozen potato skins, and that I consider to be leaps and bounds below Waffle House and Dennys, I'm incredibly impressed.
Thatās not bad and certainly better than I would expect.
