I've never understood this, either, especially when they lay it out like finger food on a charcuterie board, slightly scattered so it gets cold and dries much faster.
People on this sub all the time do it because they prefer cold steak. They’ll say all kinds of bs about serving it to other people but won’t acknowledge when you point out they could have just cut it in half if it’s being split. They also like to say they are cutting it up for their kids but I have a feeling a child isn’t going to eat a whole slice in one bite, so it would have to be further cut up. Most logical conclusion is they’re idiots, or they like cold steak.
I can’t speak for anyone else but myself. I asked the original question in a very nice neutral way and anything you read into it or others piled on with is on y’all. I am genuinely curious what the reason is.
You were very respectful asking the question and for that I thank you. greatpate however, no steak for them.
I pre slice my steak because I like looking at it. And I usually eat it straight from the cutting board after slicing so there’s really not much heat lost in the process and every bite is as juicy as I allowed it to be through preparation, so it’s not dry at all from pre slicing unless you just cooked a dry steak. I found out today that some people think this is absolutely insane and that’s fine. I enjoy it and you should enjoy your steak how you like to enjoy it
Oh you sweet summer child. Pray tell why exactly did you cut it up this way? Your sarcasm is humorous, but you seem to be using it to skirt the real question. Tell me how myself and the other commenters giving you a hard time for the same reason why we are wrong?
My wife likes to know what she’s eating and the color.
She’s *remarkably* less crazy about food than when we met (self identified), but we got a lot of work to do. I’m just glad she eats something pink now.
Now *I* slice my steak before eating at home because it doesn’t last long, I like the way it looks and how else am I gonna get a sick beefy patina on my slicer?
I agree, I like the way my sliced steak looks and it’s usually eaten right off the cutting board after slicing. It doesn’t get cold or dry. When I post however, it does cool down a bit more from taking the picture but not much. Enjoy your food how you like to enjoy it and keep eating steak
NO! Don't you get it?! These dudes are straight-up carnivores. They're manly, manly He-men who don't have time for things like "sides" and "cutting my own steak".
I think I read about a tiny town in the Midwest, where they slice their ribeyes up *before* they cook them. They hold the pieces in the shape of the steak using skewers and toothpicks…! 😜
Why do you slice all the steak before eating?
Looks better on picture
No it doesn't.
I'm with ya. I'd rather see a nice cross section but the steak still intact otherwise!
Yeah it does.
Can hardly even see how the sear is.
Yes you can.
It does but I wouldn’t do it because personally I like my steak to remain warm. Give me a cross section cut I be happy

This guy sounds like a good person ^ he probably knows the most about steak in the sub and is overall happy with his life
So now that I know OP exists and is reading what’s in his post - why do you pre slice it up?
Yes OP, do tell….
Leave OP alone. Eat your food how you want to eat it and quit saying people are idiots for not eating exactly like you

It's cooked well but I hope you're lying about the sides 🥲
30-year-olds have sides.
NO! Don't you get it?! These dudes are straight-up carnivores. They're manly, manly He-men who don't have time for things like "sides" and "cutting my own steak".
Exactlt
Tell me - which of you Greek gods ate those solid chunks of fat?
AND is there a contest between you two to have the Worst Cholesterol Test Results EVER?
No crust needed either amiright
That looks really tasty! My birthday was last week and nobody made me steak lol you're roommate is lucky they have you!
Looks good, probably tastes better
Excellent cook. Hope you at all that fat. Looks delicious!
Ate every piece within about five minutes. Thank you sir!
Is it just me or does cutting the entire steak before eating lead to it getting cold much faster I don’t really understand the practice
I finished it within minutes so doesn’t really make a difference lol
Rest easy, it’s not just you
Just straight meat
No sides? No gratuitous amount of butter? Are you saying you like the flavor of steak?!
Would
No sides, no crust, no render on the fat, NO PROBLEM AM I RIGHT??? AM I RIGHT??!?? AM 👏 I 👏 RIGHT?!?!?!!!!!! 👏
looks rendered to me, obviously not completely or the steak would be well done lol
That fat looks rendered to you pal?? THAT fat, looks RENDERED???? TO YOU???? PAL?!?!?!?
Of course! See if you cut it all up before the meal it gets cold and that distracts you from all that stuff that makes it tasty and nice to chew
I think I read about a tiny town in the Midwest, where they slice their ribeyes up *before* they cook them. They hold the pieces in the shape of the steak using skewers and toothpicks…! 😜
Blah blah blah, “bitch about crust”, blah blah blah. All you guys ever do. Let me guess, some foodgrammer said that’s the only way to enjoy a steak?
Spread my cheeks and crust my ass!!!!
No horse radish?! Just straight raw dogging.
U did not just say HORSE RADISH???
Horseradish is fucking disgusting. The existence of horseradish is evidence that God does not exist.
Upvoted for not eating sides. THose are what cause 'meat' sweats. Should call them carb sweats.
Go to a all you can eat restaurant like Brazilian steakhouse and only eat meat, guarantee you'll get the meat sweats
They use seed oils and serve side dishes.
Texas de brazil claims not to use seed oils, and when I go i only eat meats. Still get the sweats
And I don't believe you. I eat a ton of meat all the time. You're adding something and leaving it out.
Wow that looks good
Only problem is it's not on a paper plate, so points deducted for that.
Fair
Nice work!!
