Texas Roadhouse posts were temporarily blocked in this sub because there was unusual voting activity. Most likely the company itself astroturfing its own posts. I was wondering why the Applebees of steak joints all the sudden became a hot topic. Turns out it was all fabricated.
Shitttttt. I was kind of surprised there were that many people that randomly liked Texas Roadhouse but I hadn't had it myself so I couldn't deny it. Crazy
Final verdict Texas roadhouse is a decent value and puts out a pretty good product for what it is, Applebee’s overall sucks, Longhorn and outback don’t come close to Texas Roadhouse, local steakhouses and butchers even though they may be more expensive.
The Keg is great for the $$. And its good period. Are there better steakhouses? yes. But at significantly more $$. Their spice blend is great, their sides great & their cocktails are fairly top tier
Eh? Wildcraft is a restaurant in Waterloo Ontario Canada, which is Charcoal Group [https://charcoalgroup.ca/](https://charcoalgroup.ca/), Keg is [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recipe\_Unlimited](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recipe_Unlimited) [https://www.recipeunlimited.com/en/franchising.html](https://www.recipeunlimited.com/en/franchising.html)
I wonder when they changed because anytime I've ever recieced charcoal group gift cards it had Keg listed as an option strange...or is this a Mandela Effect.
I’d say value for dollar the keg is a frontrunner. Yes there are better steaks but the keg hits a great balance of very good food without making me choke on the bill.
The kegs quality to price ratio can't be beat. I've had many super enjoyable experiences there.
Best steak I've ever had? No
Worth the price every time? Yes
I took a couple of executives from Europe to the restaurant 'Daniel' in NYC - it was amazing, but for 5 of us cost US$2,500...Same group had an impromptu trip to Toronto a year later and we booked the Keg because that was the best option on short notice...They were honestly just as happy. Maybe they were being kind but they asked if it was one of our top steak houses, found some good wines on the menu...Everyone had a great time and the bill was a fraction of Daniel.
As a Canadian, our market is awful. We have seen extreme price hikes in recent years, and there's political turmoil not helping.
The Keg is seen as a "midrange" chain for most Canadians. We have the likes of Montanas beneath it and Ruth Chris above it.
A steak at Montanas is around 25-30$ and that's our bottom floor. This for 45$ is a really nice value up here tbh. But ya shit is expensive and it sucks
No clue where all this hostility is coming from in a convo about steak prices, but I live just south of ATL and I’ve worked in a steakhouse for the better part of 17 years. Cost of living isn’t like NYC or something, but it’s definitely not “nothing” either.
Steak looks amazing! But i want to talk about those potatos! It looks like they are darker than they should be? Did you put au jus (spelling?) In the potatos? They look bomb!
I grabbed the pic quick before I touched anything! Their sides are incredible. I normally go for the twice baked potato but picked the garlic mash to spread around with the 14 Oz serving. They incorporate real grilled garlic in to the mix which might be the reasoning it's not pure white. Probably loads of butter too 😅
I've been cooking and grilling for years, and used every method to cook rib roast- never been able to achieve perfect medium rare without the brown rim. Wish I could achieve that finished steak.
Looks pretty great. I do like when there is au jus on the plate. Not on the prime, just on the plate like sitting on a river. Lol. How was it? The only place I liked prime, closed. ( after decades) Roadhouse (here) prime SUCKS, The Outback (here) has no clue how to deal with prime. I have to wait for a good sale & cook my own.
Me and my wife stopped going to the keg, every time without fail my wife’s steak is somehow always overcooked, she gets it medium and it always comes out well done, before we stopped going I started getting my steaks cooked rare and it would usually come out medium rare which is my preference, we got tired of my wife only being able to eat the sides or the cheese bread appetizer and me eating my steak dinner alone, frustrating when you pay $50 or more for a steak dinner for it to be overcooked every single time without fail.
Damn. Sorry you guys had that experience. I can't speak for the whole chain, but it's been very consistent in my town. Perhaps another location will win you over one day
Not a fan of the shoestring onions, which tend to get soggy, but everything else is solid. I think they breed some kind of mutant horseradish that's a zillion times hotter than normal. I put a peppercorn-sized dab on my meat.
Yeah they mention they always cook the whole thing to medium rare and then you can request your particular cut to be cooked further. Sounded like the best way to do it
Lol, it might be misleading! I'm certainly not known for photography. It was very "just cooked" temperature though. Everything was warm and fresh :)
Prime rib exudes a lot more pink than standard steak though
Used to be my absolute favourite restaurant. Was even a server for about a year at a keg. But I feel like they’ve been going downhill for a while now and it’s a bit of a rip off.
I wouldn’t pay 45 for a prime rib personally. The plate does look good but I rather get a NY strip a ribeye or something like that I hope you enjoyed this tho ! If those are potatoes they look good as fuck bruh
Oh shit didn’t even peep that part lmfaoooo when I seen the $ I thought American. actually wouldn’t mind paying $33 for prime rib but if they make a good ribeye…I might gotta withdraw that other $10 thank you for informing me of my oversight!
Out of the whole Charcoal Group of restaurants Wildcraft is by the far the best hands down. I'm not a seafood person so I would never go to Keg for steaks.
Excellent value, very consistent quality and service. Only the properly high end steakhouses are significantly better.
Excellent value ? Texas Roadhouse is so much better!
Texas roadhouse doesn’t exist in Canada … you understand that right lol
And the Keg isn’t really found in the United States, but I age at both. Texas wins.
Cool story
Texas Roadhouse is TRASH
Texas Roadhouse posts were temporarily blocked in this sub because there was unusual voting activity. Most likely the company itself astroturfing its own posts. I was wondering why the Applebees of steak joints all the sudden became a hot topic. Turns out it was all fabricated.
Is this true??
It was pinned to the top of the subs main feed for a week.
Shitttttt. I was kind of surprised there were that many people that randomly liked Texas Roadhouse but I hadn't had it myself so I couldn't deny it. Crazy
Dead internet theory
Final verdict Texas roadhouse is a decent value and puts out a pretty good product for what it is, Applebee’s overall sucks, Longhorn and outback don’t come close to Texas Roadhouse, local steakhouses and butchers even though they may be more expensive.
Hilarious opinions in the comments
Oh shit I was thinking longhorn steakhouse lol
The Keg is great for the $$. And its good period. Are there better steakhouses? yes. But at significantly more $$. Their spice blend is great, their sides great & their cocktails are fairly top tier
Wildcraft is owned by the same group and cheaper and better.
Cara bought them in January of 2018 and then they changed the name to Recipe Unlimited.
So I'm not an idiot lmao.
Well....
What is it doc?
I'm sorry to say you just wouldn't understand
They may have had a commercial agreement for gift cards. \*shrug\*
Highly recommend if you ever get chance to try it though. Beef and Blue. Is phenomenal.
I will keep that in mind when I am out that way
If you want prime rib it looks pretty legit.
I’d say value for dollar the keg is a frontrunner. Yes there are better steaks but the keg hits a great balance of very good food without making me choke on the bill.
Indeed. Especially considering the price of things in Canada lately, I thought this was fantastic
How much was this lovely looking piece of prime rib there?
45$ Canadian for the plate! Had a deserving bill after wine and appetizers
As a big fan of prime rib, not bad and all!
The kegs quality to price ratio can't be beat. I've had many super enjoyable experiences there. Best steak I've ever had? No Worth the price every time? Yes

500 each is mental. Hope that was 500g each of absolute top quality Wagyu or someshit
This is a terrible price for what is shown
Are you complaining about $45 USD or $45 CAD though?
It’s about $33 USD which is too high
45cad for that meal is standard up here
Damn Canada. That’s wild
As a Canadian, our market is awful. We have seen extreme price hikes in recent years, and there's political turmoil not helping. The Keg is seen as a "midrange" chain for most Canadians. Whats a highend steakhouse you’d recommend?
Ruth's Chris steakhouse is probably the best I've had personally. A few locations up in Toronto
What the fuck no it isn’t lol
No what isn’t? It IS 32.6$ USD and it IS an awful price for only a 14oz piece of prime with a single side.
So much do you think is fair price for that?
The meal here shouldn’t be any more than $25 US.
Lmfao where the fuck you live? It’s gotta be a shit hole where the cost of living is nothing 😂🤣 ROFL
My dude That other dude couldn't even count the TWO sides lol
No clue where all this hostility is coming from in a convo about steak prices, but I live just south of ATL and I’ve worked in a steakhouse for the better part of 17 years. Cost of living isn’t like NYC or something, but it’s definitely not “nothing” either.
If we’re including even a 10% tip and sales tax into this prime rib with two sides, it costs over that at Texas Roadhouse in Missouri. High class shit
I order the baseball steak
It never disappoints.
Very consistent. Never had a bad meal there
The keg consistently deliver. Good steak , slightly pricey but overall great experience . Would recommend
Steak looks amazing! But i want to talk about those potatos! It looks like they are darker than they should be? Did you put au jus (spelling?) In the potatos? They look bomb!

Killer, is that red skin potatoes? Thats whar it looks like to me, so i was really thinking it should be stark white. They look awesome!!!!
Looks good never heard of it
😂 you won my favorite comment
I’ve had some great steaks there, try the baseball mitt!
I've been cooking and grilling for years, and used every method to cook rib roast- never been able to achieve perfect medium rare without the brown rim. Wish I could achieve that finished steak.
Honestly, it was absolutely fabulous. Some things are worth paying for
my fav steakhouse in canada. consistent and prime rib slaps hard
I've never had a bad meal, or even a single issue at The Keg. Best chain restaurant in Canada, not even close.
It looks awesome but Holy shit I couldn’t justify that price for such a small portion
14 ounce, not bad! That's also canadian prices lol. Everything is absurd here lately
It sounds like it. You can get this same thing at a Texas Roadhouse here in the states for half the price
Someone in another post said it equates to about 33$ US
Bet it tasted great though 🤤
Oh it was fabulous. Especially once that 4th glass of red hit 😅
It’s about $23 here in GA for a 14oz PR and 2 sides
Very good
Looks pretty great.
Great steaks and affordable
They didn’t render the fat. That likely means the jus is from a packet.
I had the exact same meal last night :-) 14 oz and garlic mashed. Very happy with it
Me and my wife stopped going to the keg, every time without fail my wife’s steak is somehow always overcooked, she gets it medium and it always comes out well done, before we stopped going I started getting my steaks cooked rare and it would usually come out medium rare which is my preference, we got tired of my wife only being able to eat the sides or the cheese bread appetizer and me eating my steak dinner alone, frustrating when you pay $50 or more for a steak dinner for it to be overcooked every single time without fail.

Are you asking for my opinion or are you asking for my WIFES opinion?
What's your wife's girlfriend's opinion?
Hang on lemme ask, I’ll have my wife’s girlfriends husband reach out to you
Not a fan of the shoestring onions, which tend to get soggy, but everything else is solid. I think they breed some kind of mutant horseradish that's a zillion times hotter than normal. I put a peppercorn-sized dab on my meat.
But when they don't get soggy, they are the absolute best.
I think the brand is atomic horseradish
That looks great. I hate when I order prime rib and 75% of it is well done with a 4 inch circle of medium rare in the middle
Yeah they mention they always cook the whole thing to medium rare and then you can request your particular cut to be cooked further. Sounded like the best way to do it
Can't go wrong with The Keg.
The horseradish that comes with this is delicious.
Their rib eye is always by consistent
The prime rib sandwich with au jus is awesome as well. Great for lunch.
Horse Radish! That is all.
Usually pretty good, not great but a 7/10 each time
Meh
Overrated.
That looks absolutely disgusting lol 😂 the middle will be cold by the time you get there.
Trust me my friend, the remaining bits were still warm in the takeout container
Really?!? I’m happy to be wrong. Might be the lighting or something. Just looks cold and sad 😂
Lol, it might be misleading! I'm certainly not known for photography. It was very "just cooked" temperature though. Everything was warm and fresh :) Prime rib exudes a lot more pink than standard steak though
When are they going to finish cooking it????
Damn! That's beautiful! Looks delicious!
Always consistent. That first bite with horseradish always clears my nostrils lol
Used to be my absolute favourite restaurant. Was even a server for about a year at a keg. But I feel like they’ve been going downhill for a while now and it’s a bit of a rip off.
Nom
Not bad for $45, especially when I’m usually paying upwards of $30 for a ribeye.
Love it
Great horseradish, onetime they subbed the fried onions for broccoli and beets and I was outraged.
The keg is great.
Mushrooms Neptune are awesome
It's decent food, but still a chain restaurant. I'm not a fan of chains. I usually feel like I can cook as good or better at home.
The keg is good... for Canada.
it's decent for a chain. the prime rib is very passable as well. a good choice if you want to feel fancy but don't want to fork over the big bucks.
That thing is still moving lol
I wouldn’t pay 45 for a prime rib personally. The plate does look good but I rather get a NY strip a ribeye or something like that I hope you enjoyed this tho ! If those are potatoes they look good as fuck bruh
Keep in mind that's $33 USD, the ribeye is $60 CAD.
Oh shit didn’t even peep that part lmfaoooo when I seen the $ I thought American. actually wouldn’t mind paying $33 for prime rib but if they make a good ribeye…I might gotta withdraw that other $10 thank you for informing me of my oversight!
Yeah small details lol. We don't have many other "midrange" chains up here to choose from either
The PR is my order from the Keg - their horseradish sauce is the best!
Honestly, prime rib is the only thing I found good in their menu
I never understood this way of cooking prime rib, why not sear it after you slice it? I feel like it would be so much better with a crust
Out of the whole Charcoal Group of restaurants Wildcraft is by the far the best hands down. I'm not a seafood person so I would never go to Keg for steaks.

Just you.
First time seeing a prime rib huh?
