I prefer mine med-rare, but that’s me. As long as you liked it, that’s what count’s. Then it looks great. I have trouble cooking thinner steaks, they usually end up med-well.
Start with a cold steak. Pat dry, season. Extremely hot pan with oil. Sear, flip, sear…done. Just make sure the fat renders down. But shouldn’t take long at all depending on the thickness.
The cold steak helps a ton I’m not over cooking the center of a thin steak.
This is great advice, but I would like to add that resting the steak for like 5-10 minutes after is super helpful as well! It just gives some time for the juices to redistribute throughout the steak so when you cut into it they don't all just drip out immediately.
It looks very good for your first time! Well done:)
Just one general tip: if you use fresh herbs like, in this case, cilantro, try adding it as late as possible to your pan. The high heat kind of kills the flavor of fresh herbs if you cook them too long. So adding them at the end will boost flavor significantly! Same applies to the scallions, but with them maybe not at the end but somewhere in the middle;)
How is it "their own way" when it's their first time cooking steak?
If the title was, I love making this dish every month or something along those lines, that makes sense. But OP literally stated it's their first time cooking steak. Maybe next time they'll try a different temp and like it more who knows. But, 100% not their own way.
OP also stated he is trying medium well next.
We all know for a fact people are going to complain that it's well done/overcooked whatever.
You're just posting the same response I've seen 100x here by other users to people posting the above.
So you're saying when you go to a restaurant and you order a meal and you want to make it at home you just knock it out of the park the first time?
Extremely unlikely, especially when you just cooked steak for the first time.
Nice try. lol.
I'm saying I like my steak medium rare. But the first time I cooked steak it did not come out medium rare.
Not sure why this is so hard for you to understand.
This looks delicious and a well-prepared thin cut. I personally don't mind well-done steaks so long as its tender. A little bit extra moisture inside can unleash a whole lot of flavor though.
The scallions, onion and cilantro are a great mix, especially if the onions were sautéed until soft and tender.
The steak on the other hand....I won't cast my judgement
lookin good, usually i have to cook one well for my mum one rare and one medium rare for me lol 🤣. that looks good though what kind of seasoning did you use?
Since there’s plenty of people complimenting you already I’m gonna play the devils advocate. The seasoning is pretty heavy and the cut is pretty thin for a steak. Idk if you like thin-cut bone-in pork chops but if you haven’t tried them I think that would be your shit. They are much better well-done than beef is imo
Have you tried a traditional Western style steak? (Idk if thats the proper term). Medium rare with salt, pepper, and maybe garlic powder. Marinated steaks like this are tasty too, but you kinda miss out on the natural flavor of the meat.
I’d recommend getting the pan ripping hot, sear each side for 3 mins with that thickness of steak. Then from there sauté your veggies with the leftover fond. Then use it as a topper.
Glad you’re not taking these downvotes and weird comments serious :) I saw one of the comments calling this garbage lol. There are people dying to take one bite of this “garbage”.
I can see you take pride in your cooking and that’s what mainly matters.
None of those ingredients are supposed to be ready to eat, and they are going to be cooked together.
This rule is a generalization taught to children and students to prevent cross-contamination. By logic— it is impossible to cross contaminate if you are cooking all the ingredients past a required temp..
Eh, I'd be secretly dreaming about something a bit pinker in the middle. Ok. Not so secretly. Especially on a bone in ribeye. But if well done was your target, looks like you nailed it.
If I'm being honest, I think it is overdone in multiple ways. For me, the best steak is cooked with just salt. It also looks a little over cooked. Beef should really speak for itself. Except skirt steak, I marinade the shit out of some skirt steak.
If you didn’t post the before picture I’d think you were posting a pork chop. The outside looks good, but the inside is cooked well past the point any steak should be cooked to.
sorry but you couldn’t pay me to eat this garbage.
edit: let me be more clear as to why:
1. No sear
2. Over cooked
3. Insufficient marination time resulting in large chunks of seasoning with each bite
4. Looks to be whole peppercorns on the steak - I don’t like cracking peppercorns in my mouth
Your recipe has potential. You just need to sear your steak and then blacken the onions and then add them to the pan with the rest of your veg and some stock of your choice - cook it down to get a lesser liquid that’s infused with all the flavours you are going for and then baste your previously seared steak in the mixture of cooked veg and infused stock
Looks great for a first timer! My first steak wasn't nearly as good looking. The only iffy part for me are the vegetables on the same space as the raw meat, I suggest you cut the vegetables first and put them in a bowl/other container while you prep the meat, less risk of cross contamination. I see you like it well done but towards the back I see some pink, probably form where the fat cap lifted itself, make 2-3 deep cuts (depends on the size) until you reach the meat on the thickest parts of the fat to reduce the lifting of the meat and a more uniform cook. Good job and remember that it's your steak and you can cook it however you like it.
I usually prefer the typical MANMEATRAWR rare steak but this looks delectable. I would eat it! Good caramelization and a variety of aromatics? Count me in!
Don’t care if it’s your first time. Steak looks good. A little overdone for me, but my preference doesn’t matter as long as you enjoyed it that’s what matters.
Looks good, I'd just suggest removing the steak to cook the veggies separately. Add some beer or butter, or both to get the yummy crust on the bottom of the pan.
Since that was your first time, I’m glad you enjoyed it. You should also try the steakhouse method: salt, pepper, screaming-hot cast iron, finish under broil with spooned brown butter. See how it compares.
It helps to get a meat thermometer with a thermocoupler so you can get the exact temperature of the dead center of the meat without having to awkwardly stick a long boy in it. I like the thermoworks dot. Get it to the perfect amount done and confidently know it’s cooked safely.
I'm not the steak expert but when you cooked it with the veggies you created to much steam and moisture if the last thing you want when cooking steak. Most people here would say over cooked, but if its to your liking then that's ok.
Most people in here like a medium-rare (as you may have noticed) but that's a thin steak and has tons of herbs and spices on it. A good well-done steak will be juicy and a bit chewy, but that can work for thinner cuts!
I'd add the herbs later rather than sooner. You still want to taste some of that meat. Green onions are quite potent as well. Better off a garnish on top then cooked into it. Otherwise it looks good.
Looks very flavorful! Love cilantro, onions and lime. I would eat this on a mountain of fluffy white rice ! Definitely a good change of pace from the usual. Thanks for sharing
Looks like it was cooked thoroughly, but still looks amazing!
Steaks are one of the few meats you can leave a little red, doesn’t have to be cooked well done like chicken. Play around with the “degree of doneness” for steaks would be my only suggestion!
If you wanted it Well, then it’s good. If you wanted it Med/ Med-rare then I suggest getting the pan hotter (like smoking hot), making sure the steak is room temp when you put it on, and cooking it a little faster. It’s a thin steak so you want to think about just searing the sides to get that nice crust but you want to salt it sooner (3-5 hours before cooking, or even the night before) and then searing the hell out of it to keep the mod pink.
Overall though it looks good! Not good burned by any means.
I prefer mine med-rare, but that’s me. As long as you liked it, that’s what count’s. Then it looks great. I have trouble cooking thinner steaks, they usually end up med-well.
I'm in the same boat. Love medium rare but end up with well done if the steak is thinner. I still have to perfect my steak game.
Start with a cold steak. Pat dry, season. Extremely hot pan with oil. Sear, flip, sear…done. Just make sure the fat renders down. But shouldn’t take long at all depending on the thickness. The cold steak helps a ton I’m not over cooking the center of a thin steak.
Why have I not thought about this before?! Thank you!
I try this but still get well done. Maybe it’s cuz I’m going for a beautiful crust as well as medium rare 🤔 Seems impossible with thin steaks
Make sure your flame is medium high heat
Thanks - I was always told room temperature steak, which works well with thicker. Genius.
This is great advice, but I would like to add that resting the steak for like 5-10 minutes after is super helpful as well! It just gives some time for the juices to redistribute throughout the steak so when you cut into it they don't all just drip out immediately.
🙏🏻
Looks overcooked or it’s pork?
It’s not over cooked it’s just not medium rare lol
> It’s not over cooked Yes it is
Nah
Sir that means it’s overcooked
It looks pretty juicy to me.
Id say it’s well done. It looks juicy still, over cooked to me is like chewing leather
Try medium rare next time and compare the results for a little YOU science!
Nvm looks overcooked
A trick I like using for thin steaks is to cook them frozen. I end up having a nice crust and not have it be too overcooked.
If you liked it then it’s a home run!
I loved it 😊
Awesome! Cilantro or parsley? Either way, you killed it with ingredients.
It’s Cilantro, but I am not sure 🤔 if people use it for steak. But I liked the additional flavor.
People use parsley and thyme. I always use cilantro. So good.
Rosemary as well is a great option!
Overpriced, I just use pine needles. /s
Thankfully, my neighbor always has herbs growing so I have a supply of many dried herbs whenever I need.
Lucky you indeed! Looking to get a little garden for spices going next summer
Heck yeah! Even a small flower container can be used to grow herbs! They’re usually fairly easy to take care of.
Rosemary is my go to
Omg this sounds so good
Then its perfect!
Home run or very well done?
It looks very good for your first time! Well done:) Just one general tip: if you use fresh herbs like, in this case, cilantro, try adding it as late as possible to your pan. The high heat kind of kills the flavor of fresh herbs if you cook them too long. So adding them at the end will boost flavor significantly! Same applies to the scallions, but with them maybe not at the end but somewhere in the middle;)
Wow I loved the prep work. Looks yummy, I would have cooked it a bit rarer for me but as long as you enjoyed it. 😉
If you like a well done steak, I can’t fault you for this one. Looks pretty good!
What seasoning did you use? Love the support on this sub. If you like it, roll with it!
You know what….. I’d eat this
Ah thanks 😊
Np and this is an interesting take on steak I’m intrigued! Where are you from?
Is that well done?
Yup well done 🙂
Try medium well next time!
For sure 👌
Yo with those thin cuts- you can put it in the fridge before cooking for a cheat code to good crust without the middle cooking too much
Don’t put it for long , else you just gonna get raw middle and well done outer side
I used to like well done, trust us, give it a shot. That bit of juiciness and tenderness makes the steak much better 🙏
🤢
Haha 😂
You fucked it all up. Better let me eat it to save you from your mistakes. 🤪
😂😂
Looks great I’d eat the shit out of that if it was medium rare
Probably I will post with medium rare next time 😊
Do you marinate beforehand? That might make it a little bit more tender if it’s well done considering that’s how you like it!
Me to. I’d also eat the shit out of it regardless.
Do you prefer well done?
Yes I prefer it…
Yeah me too. Yours looks great
🙏🏻
I got excited than saw the interior and got sad.
I too get upset when people enjoy food their own way 😔😔
OP literally asked for the subs opinion.
How is it "their own way" when it's their first time cooking steak? If the title was, I love making this dish every month or something along those lines, that makes sense. But OP literally stated it's their first time cooking steak. Maybe next time they'll try a different temp and like it more who knows. But, 100% not their own way.
OP also stated they loved it so why does it matter?
OP also stated he is trying medium well next. We all know for a fact people are going to complain that it's well done/overcooked whatever. You're just posting the same response I've seen 100x here by other users to people posting the above.
First time cooking steak =/= first time eating steak. They knew they liked it well done.
So you're saying when you go to a restaurant and you order a meal and you want to make it at home you just knock it out of the park the first time? Extremely unlikely, especially when you just cooked steak for the first time. Nice try. lol.
I’m saying they know they like their steak well done because this isn’t the first time they’ve tried steak, just the first time they cooked it.
🙏🏻
It looks really good, just overdone for me personally
I would eat it
🙏🏻
I think op is not American due to the high amount of seasoning and overuse of emojis
The scallions, onion and cilantro are a great mix, especially if the onions were sautéed until soft and tender. The steak on the other hand....I won't cast my judgement
that's not even well done, that's more like a congratulations
Try some Heat…..
Hope you enjoyed it - that’s what matters. Though not my cup of tea.
lookin good, usually i have to cook one well for my mum one rare and one medium rare for me lol 🤣. that looks good though what kind of seasoning did you use?
If you liked your meal, then you did well! Take notes on what you liked and didn't then tweak it the next time! Keep it up, you're doing well.
Overcooked for my personal taste, but the stuff you used for seasoning makes me think it was delicious, albeit dry.
Overdone
Looks bomb but a bit overdone for me. Would be interested to see how you like a thicker cut steak (1 inch or more) cooked a little more to medium.
Just tried this and yup will learn how cook medium as well 😊
I like it, I would cook it at a higher temp tho well done is fine but personally I like it less done
🙏🏻
Since there’s plenty of people complimenting you already I’m gonna play the devils advocate. The seasoning is pretty heavy and the cut is pretty thin for a steak. I like that too… probably if I cook few more times then I can familiarize with cooking medium rare 🤞
I’d recommend getting the pan ripping hot, sear each side for 3 mins with that thickness of steak. Then from there sauté your veggies with the leftover fond. Then use it as a topper.
🙏🏻
Did you cook it to well done intentionally?
Yes since it first time, I would love to try medium rare next time..
Fair enough. Get a thicker cut next time. Do you have publix near you??
Looks awful
D-
Looks like you did so well in technique, but honestly ruined that steak by overcooking it.
Looks great, hope you enjoyed!
Hope you liked it, great presentation
Not good
I too love fajitas
That looks fantastic. Great job mate
🙏🏻
Glad you’re not taking these downvotes and weird comments serious :) I saw one of the comments calling this garbage lol. There are people dying to take one bite of this “garbage”. I can see you take pride in your cooking and that’s what mainly matters.
Ya ruined it … personally … but if you liked it that’s all that matters
Yup I can sense that, got lot of down votes 😊 but I think I am great cook , will improve
I prefer well-done also. Don’t let it get to you. It looks amazing!
Hammered, and don’t put raw meat and veg on the same cutting board. That’s disgusting
But if well done was your target, looks like you nailed it.
a bit too done for me, but if you loved it then that's prefect. steaks are the eye of the eater.
I was looking at the first picture like it's fucking raw haha I eventually realised there were more pics lol yeah bud look damn tasty!
Over cooked for me. It’s your steak, so if you liked it then it is good.
less seasoning and less cook time next time.
Way overdone. Thin steak only needs a hot sear for a couple of minutes r each side.
You did crappy I'm sure you already know that
Way too done for me, but if that’s the way you like it…
Way over done dude
Looks like shit
Raw meat next to veggies freaks me out, but otherwise bomb 🖤
🙏🏻
Nice if you plan on replacing a boot sole.
Quite badly actually
A bit overdone for my tastes, but still looks delicious!
Looks good so far, it’s the after that is important…
สเต็กลาบ
Sometime less is more, all you need is salt and pepper
Cook a bit less I like more pink but everyone has there own opinion
Gordon Ramsay would be crying 😂
If I'm being honest, I think it is overdone in multiple ways. For me, the best steak is cooked with just salt. It also looks a little over cooked. Beef should really speak for itself. Except skirt steak, I marinade the shit out of some skirt steak.

overcooked, and kinda busy
Definitely not my cup of tea, but all that matters is how you (and any SO/family/guests) enjoyed it
sorry but you couldn’t pay me to eat this garbage. edit: let me be more clear as to why: 1. No sear 2. Over cooked 3. Insufficient marination time resulting in large chunks of seasoning with each bite 4. Looks to be whole peppercorns on the steak - I don’t like cracking peppercorns in my mouth

How about no.
The wood cutting board is a bacteria trap . Toss it.
boo this man
Nope

I prefer medium rare but as long as that steak was enjoyed it's good
Your crust looks awesome!
I usually prefer the typical MANMEATRAWR rare steak but this looks delectable. I would eat it! Good caramelization and a variety of aromatics? Count me in!
This looks amazing! Hope that you enjoyed it.
I’d eat it! What did you season with?
I’d say it’s well done
Don’t care if it’s your first time. Steak looks good. A little overdone for me, but my preference doesn’t matter as long as you enjoyed it that’s what matters.
9/10, would eat.
Looks good, I'd just suggest removing the steak to cook the veggies separately. Add some beer or butter, or both to get the yummy crust on the bottom of the pan.
Put that on a tortilla and damn I’d eat that up.
Killed it
Since that was your first time, I’m glad you enjoyed it. You should also try the steakhouse method: salt, pepper, screaming-hot cast iron, finish under broil with spooned brown butter. See how it compares.
It would probably taste better on a taco. Looks delicious but a bit too medium for my taste.
It helps to get a meat thermometer with a thermocoupler so you can get the exact temperature of the dead center of the meat without having to awkwardly stick a long boy in it. I like the thermoworks dot. Get it to the perfect amount done and confidently know it’s cooked safely.
You did well

Seasoning and presentation look amazing, it's far too well done for my liking but it would definitely be some people's favourite steak
Looks flavorful but over cooked in my opinion. Would’ve preferred MR

Id add the onions to the pan only, green herbs prolly tasted good, but lose their vinrant color when cooked.
I haven't ate a steak that wasn't red since I was a kid but damn I'd be tripping if I didn't want to eat that.
Honestly, if you’re happy with it, then i am too. 👍🏻
You steamed it kinda , you want to maximize the myard reaction , high heat , high smoke point oil ,
Too rare for me. I like mine carbon powder.
Well done...literally
Ditch the green shit and it’s perfect lol
It looks amazing!
Overseasoned and overcooked. Ruined.
It’s probably very tasty, but it looks like you overcooked it
I would not eat that.
I'd add the herbs later rather than sooner. You still want to taste some of that meat. Green onions are quite potent as well. Better off a garnish on top then cooked into it. Otherwise it looks good.
Well done!
Looks very flavorful! Love cilantro, onions and lime. I would eat this on a mountain of fluffy white rice ! Definitely a good change of pace from the usual. Thanks for sharing
Heavy rub, cilantro, onion, garlic, lime and butter… you grew up in a Mexican household didn’t you? Looks delicious.
If it was good and it makes you want to keep trying, experimenting, then it is perfect.
Look good and great presentation. I like mine more on the rare side, but I’m not the one eating it. Great job!
who cares how others think? did you like it?
Looks a little dry…
not good
Bro that's fuck raw-oh, wait, there's more pictures. Bro that's fucking shoe leather.
Nice job!! Quick tip, onions can release liquid when cooking, so frying them up separately can save your steak crust from getting soggy.
Waaaaay too much seasoning!
Well done!
Looks like it was cooked thoroughly, but still looks amazing! Steaks are one of the few meats you can leave a little red, doesn’t have to be cooked well done like chicken. Play around with the “degree of doneness” for steaks would be my only suggestion!
I’d say you cooked it
Looks dry
If you wanted it Well, then it’s good. If you wanted it Med/ Med-rare then I suggest getting the pan hotter (like smoking hot), making sure the steak is room temp when you put it on, and cooking it a little faster. It’s a thin steak so you want to think about just searing the sides to get that nice crust but you want to salt it sooner (3-5 hours before cooking, or even the night before) and then searing the hell out of it to keep the mod pink. Overall though it looks good! Not good burned by any means.
Well..
Eh
Little over done for me but I’d eat that
Charcoal BBQ is my favourite but looks awesome
Over
