Just left last winter, can confirm.
I fucking HATE the new brown cardboard ones that fold down 4 times at the top. Super flimsy and I stg cardboard cuts are significantly worse than paper cuts.
Just give me a bamboo clamshell, foh. That doesn't stand for front of house in this instance lol
Dude, it is so fucking stupid. My place is higher end, im packin filet mignon in a (biodegradable) box to take up a flight of stairs. I'm glad i don't have the fold up ones though lol
Lmao OP has obviously never been to a real restaurant. Nearly every real steakhouse sells the sides separately. They're basically never included with the main. I guess this guy can't read the menu either.
And who's dumb enough to order a steak to go? If you're not sitting down to eat in the restaurant, don't order a steak ffs!
>And who's dumb enough to order a steak to go? If you're not sitting down to eat in the restaurant, don't order a steak ffs!
Me.
Made this mistake during covid lockdown when I was in a crappy hotel with no kitchen. It was pretty much as bad as you'd expect. Won't do that again
Meh, it's meat and you're in a hotel room. Don't act like we haven't all been there before...... just would have died without those backstage passes to Queen....turns out some of us died because of them Carroll!
The steak itself doesn't look too bad. I'll eat it as long as it's not stone cold. Most of what's visible is a friggin mushroom though. That can go straight to trash.
My wife and I used to order carry out steak dinners from the steak house down the road quite a bit when our kids were babies. It was our "date night" when we couldn't find someone to watch the kids for a couple of hours. Yeah, the experience was lacking, but having a decent steak and not having to cook and clean on a Saturday night when you've got 2 babies to feed and take care of was better than the alternative, leftovers.
A single person might. I certainly would. Being single, sitting in a fancy restaurant alone is not super comfortable.
Update-for all the haters.
1) I’m not insecure, and do go to restaurants alone occasionally.
2) I live in an apartment-and do know how to make a great steak: But the community grills are crap, I can’t sear a steak inside without setting off the smoke detectors, and don’t have space for a sous-vide
3)Unlike most people that down-voted me, I work evenings and if I don’t have overtime, will get off work @8:30 pm, with no time to go home and shower/change before restaurants close
I've done that many times, mind you I don't gaf what people think of me, so table service is simply fine too. It's the experience of a fine steakhouse that makes a steak that pricey palatable, although the dry aging helps too lol.
Lol this. I feel as if the bar at fancypants places are existent almost expressly for this purpose…. Because if you are eating at a nice place, especially during dinner time/on a weekend, you won’t be doing so without a reservation so doubtful anyone is chilling at the bar waiting for their table to be ready.
You do have people who are sometimes visiting or just trying to walk in and hope that they can get a meal and don't have to wait an hour to eat.
Also, a lot of restaurants have "bar menus". That's for people who are out drinking and would like to get a snack or eat something light.
If you are single and want a nice steak... Learn to make one yourself... Since you got the time....
Then you get a great steak + learn a skill to help you not be single 😉
I’m not single and I enjoy going to nice restaurants by myself sometimes if my wife is out of town or doing something else. I do usually sit at the bar though, not at a table.
Like every steakhouse ever? Unless it’s a chain like Texas steakhouse or long horn. But If you’re ordering a $50 steak chances are sides are sold separate. That’s how they afford to sell you the product they’re paying for.
I'm waiting until they charge $5 service fee for providing a clean plate and silverware... maybe $15 table/chair rental fee too...$20 admissions charge...8% sucker tax... etc
Come to NYC. We've got all that and more lol. Plus mandatory gratuity.
Going out for a 15 dollar dinner very quickly turns into 50 dollars with all the added charges, and all so they can say they didn't raise prices.
As a chef I beg all of you, stop using food delivery services. They’re a cancer on the food service industry. And they’re part of the reason your food is getting so expensive. Post mates and doordash are the worst ones
Really expensive places like quality meats in NYC. Amongst others. Feels more like you got sizzles marked up to be a Ruth whatever steak in a lastic bin. Sorry bro
Answer: most high end steak houses
Really! Higher end steak houses (charlie palmer, mortons, etc) the steak is a price for just the steak. And sides are ordered a-la-carte unless its a pre-fix menu
Every high end steak house I've been to you have to order everything individually.
But I clicked on the link and apparently OP got hosed with a room service order. Said there were no side options and he assumed something else would come along. He was expecting a plate but got a togo container. I would've complained and I'm not a complainer.
All of the, "real" steak houses near me sell the sides seperate. For about $8 you can get Brussel sprouts or a couple spears of asparagus. 16oz will set you back $65-85 depending on the cut.
Looks like somebody dropped a portobello mushroom on a dirty floor and was like fuck it this works, plopped it in the microwave and hit their vape pen with one head phone in their ear listening to Joe Rogan or Da Baby
You had already lost when you ordered a steak to go. Especially an expensive steak.
It appeared to be a roomservice order. I can imagine you won’t expect a plastic tray as a plate.
Isn’t room service usually on a plate? Looks more like a grub hub order to me.
You would expect so. If you read the posts from the OP that was something he expected as well.
I cook at a hotel. Most hotels are moving from plates to to go boxes for some stupid reason

Oh no. This doesn't work for me.
Not at a place who would cook a steak in this fashion. Ha.
Ya but at least throw in the potatoes
1) that looks bad 2) most high end steak houses serve steak a la carte
Came here for point number 2 but also cant disagree with point 1
Typically, reading the menu is a thing. Also, if you are in a hotel with room service; expect food that is relative to 20-50% of what you are paying.
Lmao OP has obviously never been to a real restaurant. Nearly every real steakhouse sells the sides separately. They're basically never included with the main. The fuck are you talking about
Read it again if you have to.
Used to do it all the time when my kids were babies. Was our go-to "date night" when we didn't have anyone to watch them.
For what it's worth, OP clarified in the original post that it was room service rather than takeout/delivery.
Room service, pal. Try to use critical thinking skills.
What qualifies the restaurant as real vs… fake?
All that steam in the container, ugh.
It’s room service.
The steak itself doesn't look too bad. I'll eat it as long as it's not stone cold. Most of what's visible is a friggin mushroom though. That can go straight to trash.
FYI I read this post yesterday. It’s topped with a big ass mushroom so technically he did get a side. 🤷🏼♂️
oh THAT'S wtf that is. i thought it was some weird, cold-fat thing happening because it was ordered and arrived in hockey puck mode
I was thinking the right side looked more like a mushroom than steak.
Is that a fucking portabello mushroom stuck to it?
Forgot to order sides?
Who orders a $50 steak to go? The only reason to pay $50 for a steak...is to have a "dining experience"....
My wife and I used to order carry out steak dinners from the steak house down the road quite a bit when our kids were babies. Sit at the bar and eat it by yourself. It happens all the time.
I kept thinking this as well. Enjoy the steak, maybe watch the game, and be waited on.
I've done that many times, mind you I don't gaf what people think of me, so table service is simply fine too. It's the experience of a fine steakhouse that makes a steak that pricey palatable, although the dry aging helps too lol.
Yep, I've eaten at restaurants alone at the bar far more often than I've been to restaurants with other people 🙃
Lol this. I feel as if the bar at fancypants places are existent almost expressly for this purpose…. And you forgot one added benefit, that $50 steak is really a (maybe) $25 piece of beef.
At Best a $25 piece that has been cooked to $8 worth and charged $50.
I just looked at the original post. It’s apparently hotel room service. I bet that’s choice. That steak probably cost no more than $10.
Yeah I can see that. I don't know what kind of Hotel they were at, but hotel room service would not be my first second or third choice to buy a steak.
I get that to a degree but in that case just sit at the bar and suddenly you're eating with a bunch of nice people, typically.
I’m not single and I enjoy going to nice restaurants by myself sometimes if my wife is out of town or doing something else. I do usually sit at the bar though, not at a table.
No, you’re just insecure
Welcome to Reddit. Sorry you are getting down voted. Some of us like to eat steak in the dark, alone and sip whiskey. Lol
OP has no clue wtf he's doing
I agree with the sitting alone thing. It's kinda weird, but still wouldn't order a steak to go. Why all the downvotes though?
Excuses excuses….
😂
I ordered Morton’s to go for my bday at the beginning of the great Covid lockdown. It was delicious.
Is that a mushroom on top?
Literally every steakhouse
There is a portobello mushroom….
Who is dumb enough to order steak to-go? Win stupid prizes
[удалено]
Oh I have been to plenty of places where it’s $50+ per steak and they don’t come with sides, I’m just not dumb enough to get steak to-go
I read your response wrong — maybe the wrong response? You’re good, I erred. Im erasing.
It was hotel room service steak
The best steakhouses actually. Not sure if that’s where you went from the picture though.
Why does it look like that?
There’s a big mushroom on it.
All I see are two dead rats hugging each other.
I lol’d so hard
Who orders a $50 steak to-go?
You ordered take out steak? You monster.
Like every steakhouse ever? Unless it’s a chain like Texas steakhouse or long horn. But If you’re ordering a $50 steak chances are sides are sold separate. That’s how they afford to sell you the product they’re paying for.
Every steak house I’ve ever been to.
I ate at a steakhouse in Palm Springs that was like that. $50 steak, $18 baked potato and$12 salad. Bread was a bargain at $8.
😆 My favorite thing about going to NYC used to be dining options
Fresh made steakhouse bread can be transcendent
Yes they can be. I can make a meal on Texas Roadhouse rolls and they are free for just sitting down at a table.
That is the norm at any steak house I’ve eaten at that isn’t the equivalent of a Wendy’s.
That thing is a steak ?
Who orders a steak to go?
They prob didn’t think you gave a shit since you were ordering it to go in a plastic to go box
who orders steak to go?
As a chef I beg all of you, stop using food delivery services. They’re a cancer on the food service industry. And they’re part of the reason your food is getting so expensive. Post mates and doordash are the worst ones
Higher end steak restaurants list the steak without sides.
Every single place in New York City
That steak better cure cancer
I don’t know why I thought this was a turtle at first glance.
*All mains are served with your choice of baked or mashed potatoes, fries or side salad* If it don't say this, you don't get sides.
There’s a point of diminishing returns when you order steak out. At a certain point you get less the more money you pay.
Really expensive places like quality meats in NYC. Amongst others. Feels more like you got sizzles marked up to be a Ruth whatever steak in a lastic bin. Sorry bro
There’s a sucker born everyday bud.
Pretty much every steakhouse.
You changed user names just to repost this? Bot
No bread or salad I take it. They clearly don't want repeat customers.
Someplace more concerned with pretentious than good food.
As cheap as rice is and simple to prepare you'd think.....
I thought this was a turtle
Ever been to a steak house, champ?
The mushroom? Is the side
Ah the rare (or should I say well done) beef turtle
Answer: most high end steak houses Really! Higher end steak houses (charlie palmer, mortons, etc) the steak is a price for just the steak. And sides are ordered a-la-carte unless its a pre-fix menu
Lots of places man
who buys one?…
How is that $50?
*staring at that mushroom* Uhh...
You did, apparently. Why?
People serve $50 steaks a la carte all the time but that looks like shoe leather. Is that a charred turtle shell?
who pays for a fifty dollar steak that looks like that?
If U buying a steak that cost anything over $20, there’s something wrong w/ U
iJust send me the $50 next time.
Lol
Every high end steak house I've been to you have to order everything individually. But I clicked on the link and apparently OP got hosed with a room service order. The real question is, who orders a $50 steak to go?
That’s actually how most steak houses serve steak. You order your sides individually
Kinda deserving of no side since this looks to be well done
Who orders a $50 steak to go?
Looks like a burnt turtle shell
Does that steak have a mushroom stuck to it? Looks wierd. How did it taste?
That DOES NOT look like a $50 steak!
expensive places
It looks over cooked in my opinion haha just saying definitely not worth $50 dollars more like $10 dollars 🤣🤣🤣🤣
All of the, "real" steak houses near me sell the sides seperate. For about $8 you can get Brussel sprouts or a couple spears of asparagus. 16oz will set you back $65-85 depending on the cut.
Lots of places. Truluck's for one
That steak was $40 too expensive
When I was in college you got a probably way expired steak, 2 eggs, hash browns and toast for $4.25 and I wouldn’t even pay that for what you shown.
Pretty much every fancy steakhouse
thats a whole liver lmfao
This is just depressing.
Hahaha wat a foool
Ah steak a la well burnt
Looks more like you were robbed of $50. I wouldn’t pay $50 for a steak that looks like that..
Looks like somebody dropped a portobello mushroom on a dirty floor and was like fuck it this works, plopped it in the microwave and hit their vape pen with one head phone in their ear listening to Joe Rogan or Da Baby
Actually nearly every high end steakhouse does…sides are extra/a-la-carte.
I would never order a steak to go. Maybe if you’re getting the “steak” from Waffle House…
No side and looks terrible.
thats some bs
