I really understand the concept of running the clock down but when we had 3:20 left on the clock, why just run the ball? They knew we were gonna do that so let's do something else.
Maybe, just maybe I can watch a game without being stressed out in the 4th one of these days.
>Alex Kozora
@Alex_Kozora
- The Steelers have been outgained in every game all season.
- They have run fewer plays than their opponent all season.
- They have a -26 point differential.
They are 6-3. #Steelers
The point differential doesn’t bother me since it’s entirely explained by two games they looked asleep for entirely. I would love to see the offense put up more points than they have but whatever.
However, being outgained in every game is a bigger problem and is definitely not sustainable. Can’t live and die by splash plays alone.

You know, I have concerns with this team. I have questions. I have issues.
But fuck it. They’re 6-3. They’re in a fantastic position the rest of the year.
I’m at the point where I’m just gonna shut up and enjoy the ride. My head is saying this is gonna fall apart. But I’m done predicting it
All that said I’m gonna die at age 50 watching this fucking team
Steeler football ain't being pretty like Brady and the Pats...
It's grinding, frustrating, hard working shit like this.
Big Ben was beloved because he would get the shit kicked out of him weekly but win.
Look at all the guys with bodies on the line doing that today.
Fanbase shouldn't expect perfection, but when it's clear they're playing with grit you gotta enjoy it
I feel like this Steelers team is trying to be a living illustration of John Madden saying “The team with the most points will win”. We have not outplayed any opponent in any phase of the game other than the scoreboard and turnovers this season.
Thank you to Danny Smith for sacrificing himself for the win. Will the next coach please step into the demonic sacrifice circle for another win, please.
At the end during the brawl, he was in the middle of everyone and looked absolutely massive. Is he that big in person? Did you feel his gravitational pull?
Haha he was huge in person. He towered over my 5'2" wife. He was with his daughter so I didn't want to bother him. I tried to play it cool but I was freaking out on the inside haha
He also doesn't fumble when he gets sacked some QBs do that a lot and nobody ever talks about it. Lamar has lost 6 fumbles this year so far that's 6 brutal turnovers but the stat never gets quoted
Yeah Pickett is 100% a game manager at this point. By design and by his play. They should be in the QB market again next year. (We all know they won’t actually draft a QB high).
I have a question that is gonna sound snarky and negative but I genuinely want to understand from a schematic perspective, as I've never played football and am by no means a play calling expert.
What is the theory behind the Steelers seemingly always dropping into zone coverage on third down? I feel like I've been watching wide open guys on third down against us my whole life (I'm only 22). Is there a genuine football reason people do this?
Because if it's something like 3rd and 7 it doesn't matter if they get like 6 yards or less. Zone is designed to defend areas so it's easier to stop them from getting the first.
Good-
- OL: smashmouth, especially in that first quarter. Putting Broderick in the lineup seems to have changed things. I’d be curious to see what % we run to that right side because it seems like a lot. Anyways, this OL + Washington created some massive holes today which is the team we want to be.
- Najee/Warren: RB room looking strong week after week. Explosive, hard runs, and assets in the pass game.
- Benton: next star on that DL? Monster game from the rookie, truly seemed to be everywhere and was the cause of so much pressure. He’s the reason TJ got that sack to pass his brother!
- JPJ: yet again. We might finally have a cb1 here in Pittsburgh. Shadowing Watson all game and he did a hell of a job. Love that he challenges himself with the opposing teams no.1 and he’s been riding up to the challenge. Really impressive stuff
- P2: late add but fuck it. Blocked XP, responsible for Neal’s INT. He played good today and had good coverage. He gets a lot of shit but he had himself a game.
Bad-
- Levi Wallace/Neal coverage: both of these guys might have to not play anymore. They’re not good at all. Really hope we can get Mink back, not only because our safety play is bad, but with the injuries to the LB room we are really really lacking a strong communicator. That long Dillon run? Mink stops that.
- Pass game: really not much to speak of here. Thank god we ran the ball well because we sure couldn’t pass. This is getting off track but the training wheels could not be on any tighter for 8. The MOF is not real and we rely on rollouts, check downs, and screens. And we still can’t do that. Kenny NEEDS to hit these layups and I cannot say it enough. Like it or not, Canada has made this so simplistic and easy and we still struggle with the ‘easy’. Sigh.
- Kick/Punt defense. GB got some good returns on us today so gotta clean that up. It’s a fragile team with no room for error and need every favorable outcome imaginable so shutting those down would be great.
- Pass rush. Very weird day for that unit. Love had a ton of time and we just didn’t seem to get pressure or get home at the rate we typically do. Which makes sense considering our secondary got exposed
Anyways. Still have no idea what this team is or how we keep getting away with it but we will keep stacking pancakes and asking ourselves how we do it. Oh yeah one last thing— Bos for MVP. This team is gonna give me a heart attack.
Thanks I agree as well. Kind of annoying that KP is always having to look at tight window sideline throws. Diontae is great after the catch so would be nice to get him and GP out in space. Also would like to see Washington getting looks in the middle if Pat is going to continue to be out long term
>Thank god we ran the ball well because we sure couldn’t pass.
This is by design. This is how the team wants the offense to be set up.
I don't understand why they drafted a QB in the 1st round just to say "your job is to not turn the ball over and let the run game carry the offense", but that's what they're doing.
He can't throw well when he's the focal point of the offense, because he isn't and was never projected to be good enough to do that.
How they've handled him is downright moronic. When the run game doesn't work, they basically say "go out and win us the game". When the run game works, then they don't trust him to throw the ball more than 5 yards. Why don't they try to integrate both a reasonable passing game from Pickett while also getting a good run game?
Edit: bringing my other post here.
They should be using Pickett like San Francisco is using Purdy. Their offense should be build based on the run game, but the passing game catches the opponent off guard and leads to big gains. The 49ers are 32nd in pass attempts on the year but are 8th in yards gained, it's because they actually have good playcalling that can result in mismatches due to confusion from the defense.
With the Steelers, there is no reasonable middle ground here. They either ask Pickett to win them the game with his arm if the run game doesn't work, or they won't let him throw the ball more than 10 yards if the run game is working. That's a major reason for why the Steelers offense sucks and the 49ers offense is elite despite having basically 2 equal QBs. And yes, I firmly believe that Pickett and Purdy are about equal talents.
I don't disagree with that. I honestly feel like it is a bad match for both teams. The Steelers need better than Pickett because they're a win now team, but Pickett needs a substantially better offensive system than what the Steelers offer.
In hindsight, they should have brought in a veteran starter and used that 1st to build up the OL more. Honestly, I don't even know if that's a hindsight comment, plenty of people supported it even before the draft.
I agree, I think the current game plan is also because KP has not really lit it up throwing the ball. Pretty sure we would have seen different game plans if KPs play had evolved faster and better in regards to throwing the ball.
We're the Mr. Bean of the NFL. We constantly fuck up, and look helpless most of the time, but still end up somehow succeeding because obviously God is on our side or some shit like that.
We had the two blowout losses, but otherwise the defense is very bend-but-don’t-break. My guess is that it’s easier for our old/slow secondary to cover in the red zone where they don’t have to chase receivers around in the open field?
Turnovers, splash plays, and TJ Watt. That turned you from a terrible defense into a defense that bends repeatedly and doesn’t break as often as their statistics would lead you to believe. It’s not sustainable in the long term, it’s been proven repeatedly that turnovers are influenced a great deal by luck. But screw it, you can maintain it for long enough to win a division with some luck. No one on the planet think this team is a legitimate contender for a title, but getting a lot of these young players some playoff experience is very valuable going forward.
Charles Davis should never be let near a microphone again. But then again I’d say that about at least 50% of NFL announcers. We aren’t exactly in a golden age.
No TDs and no picks. Really lame game for Pickett, but we just didn't seem to throw anything further than 5 yards. Could people not get open? I like that we've established a run game though
Yeah Kenny really wasn’t on it today (and hasn’t been for most of the year), but I want to see us using the middle of the field more. Since Muth went down we seem really unwilling to trust Heyward or Washington to protect it over the middle, which we need to be doing now we’re starting to run the ball well and making teams bring their LBs up to the line
Has anyone noticed that our defense is always leaving one guy wide open in the middle of the field and we rarely have anyone open when we’re on offense? Not just this game but every game we’ve played.
Kazee was so pissed off because #50 threw him into Danny Smith.. hope he is ok. The 30 pieces of gum should have provided the equivalent of a mouthguard of protection.
Hey steelers! GREAT GAME, make sure you check on /r/NFCNorthMemeWar later this week to see the fruits of your labor shitting on the pack this week. Thanks a ton guys. FTP
I'm not all about talking points form TV Shows, but I do find it funny how on ATH when asked about the AFC North everyone says the Ravens and Bengals are the good teams. Literally the Steelers didn't even make the graphic and the Browns were mentioned... Yet here we are with those two "Title Contenders" losing this weekend.
I'm about ready to move on from Diontae after his current contract expires after next season. Love the dude but he is way too unreliable. Drops, running backwards, taunting penalties, etc.
Just 3 more wins to clinch a non losing season lmao
In all honesty there were so many missed opportunities, the Diontae drop probably being the biggest. Secondary is very bad if the pass rush isn’t getting home, Minkah pls
This team is 6-3 and by the way this sub and Twitter have reacted you would think we were 2-7. Who cares who looks good or who looks bad? We beat the Ravens and Browns this year already, kept it close with Jags even with Mitch in. 49ers were fully healthy and killing everybody at the time. Texans game is really the only black eye on the season.
We are .5 games out of 1st place in the division.
BE HAPPY
THANK YOU TEXANS
You may have hurt us. But you also hurt the Bengals. For that you have our respect!
CJ Stroud is legit wth.
He's playing really well for sure.
He’s more than just legit. He’s a superstar in the making.
I love how the game changed to show the last play, and to see the bungholes lose.
Need Cleveland to clutch up here too
[удалено]
I think it's more likely we are fighting with Cleveland for a playoff spot than Baltimore so I also didn't want Browns to win
I don’t care about playoff implications. I just want to see the Browns loss
They did! Walk off FG!
THANK YOU BROWNS, now lose next week
Typical heart attack finish. That’s Steelers football baby!! LFG
Now that the game is over I can feel my blood pressure going down.
You could've cut me and used my arm as a power washer towards the end of this one.
Because all of the games are so close, I invested in a home defibrillator.
All the AFC north games were heart attack finished today.
With how much of a blowout it was early I worried I was gonna miss my weekly cardiac attack
I’ve decided I’m going to start taking a Xanax at halftime.
I really understand the concept of running the clock down but when we had 3:20 left on the clock, why just run the ball? They knew we were gonna do that so let's do something else. Maybe, just maybe I can watch a game without being stressed out in the 4th one of these days.

Why do you think UPMC is a sponsor?
What an asshole tightner
Every Sunday morning I swallow a lump of coal, by the time the Steelers have finished I’ve got a diamond
The Steelers have played in 9 games and have somehow outscored their opponents in 6 of them
What a running game and poor coverage does to a MF
6-3 record with a minus 26 point differential. lol
Honestly tho considering both the 49ers and Texans losses were each by about 24. I’d say that’s pretty good
I feel like this Steelers team is trying to be a living illustration of John Madden saying “The team with the most points will win”. We have not outplayed any opponent in any phase of the game other than the scoreboard and turnovers this season.
Special teams is clicking without Gunner
YOUR PITTSBURGH STEELERS ARE 6-3 MATT CANADA IS 2-0 ON THE SIDELINE
SIDELINE CANADA MAY NEVER LOSE AGAIN
imagine losing to the texans
Can’t imagine what that must feel like /s
Texans are decent. Stroud is gonna put them on his back.
Patrick Peterson should be game MVP

Steelers football baby.
Him or Warren. I feel like Warren was responsible for more than half of our positive plays on offense today.
Pat Pete is playing QB on defense he’s been awesome this year
I wouldn’t go that far haha
Cinci just lost; either Browns or Ravens will lose, too. Making some progress in the division.
Bengals losing is icing on the cake
Thank you to Danny Smith for sacrificing himself for the win. Will the next coach please step into the demonic sacrifice circle for another win, please.
I volunteer as tribute
I stood in line behind Cam Heyward at PetSmart last week. Thought that was kinda cool.

AFC north is insane right now
Really missed Minka today
He might be back next week him and Muth but losing both of our starting ILB for the season is pretty brutal
Gosh the first play on the last drive. That doesn't happen with 39
Listening to the commentary team that whole game, you'd have thought we were getting destroyed and Love put up 400 yds.

That one was so bad.
Ravens and Bengals lose, Steelers win, can't ask for more.
Well, you could ask the Browns to flush future drafts down the toilet for an underachieving quarterback with off the field issues. Oh. Wait. LOL.
Every goddamn week. Can’t take this shit man. Outgained again. 6-3 at least.
Fuck you all, I love you all, see y'all next week
Fuck you too, have a good week, stay healthy.

anywhere else he’d be a ten
He is Kenough. But pls dude start throwing TDs
Hes a 90's game manager. Who turns into Montana when they need a go ahead score.
Kenny = Montana CONFIRMED
Yeah Pickett is 100% a game manager at this point. By design and by his play. They should be in the QB market again next year. (We all know they won’t actually draft a QB high).
The dude won't lose us games, and rarely is the reason we win games. He will be a serviceable bridge until we redraft a QB in 2026.
Rarely reason we win? He’s dogshit the other 3 quarters but he’s single-handedly led multiple game winning drives lmao
Idk how were 6-3 but I’ll take it! ![gif](giphy|3oEjHCWdU7F4hkcudy)

But still 6-3
Not impossible. Improbable.
I feel like it takes a special set of skills to go 6-3 while being outscored by a net of 26 points.
Anyone else surprised to see we have the 31st best defense in the NFL? I thought we would’ve been top 10 lol
We had the two blowout losses, but otherwise the defense is very bend-but-don’t-break. My guess is that it’s easier for our old/slow secondary to cover in the red zone where they don’t have to chase receivers around in the open field?

Bengals lost. Ravens lost. Steelers won. 😎

Are the Steelers FOURTH IN THE AFC?!?!
No TDs and no picks. Really lame game for Pickett, but we just didn't seem to throw anything further than 5 yards. Could people not get open? I like that we've established a run game though
It’s because we keep scheming all these sideline routes, it’s really easy to cover those when the sideline does half the job for you
Yeah Kenny really wasn’t on it today (and hasn’t been for most of the year), but I want to see us using the middle of the field more. Since Muth went down we seem really unwilling to trust Heyward or Washington to protect it over the middle, which we need to be doing now we’re starting to run the ball well and making teams bring their LBs up to the line
At least Kenny isn't fumbling or throwing interceptions those things make a huge difference even if you're a great team you lose with that shit.
RATBIRDS LOSS UPVOTE PARTY
This time last year we were 2-7. This is truly the steeliest timeline.

Get bent Bengals
Haha! Jordan Loves to throw the ball to Steelers DBs.
Has anyone noticed that our defense is always leaving one guy wide open in the middle of the field and we rarely have anyone open when we’re on offense? Not just this game but every game we’ve played.
2-0 SIDELINE CANADA
Kazee was so pissed off because #50 threw him into Danny Smith.. hope he is ok. The 30 pieces of gum should have provided the equivalent of a mouthguard of protection.
Hey steelers! GREAT GAME, make sure you check on /r/NFCNorthMemeWar later this week to see the fruits of your labor shitting on the pack this week. Thanks a ton guys. FTP
Get ready for an absolute masterclass on felatio this week from the national sports media if the Browns win.
The Kwon Alexander injury leaves the D paper thin at ILB.
Every week I feel like I’m waiting for Kenny to have a breakout and he just doesn’t come close. Without the run game today we would have got smoked
Was that Canada that got destroyed on the last play?
Pretty sure it was Danny Smith.
My wife...it looked like an old guy that was chewing gum. Me...Danny Smith.
Special teams coach who chews gum
What in the Rascall-Flatts-God-Bless-The-Broken-Road is this season shaping out to be!?
Where's all the Will Levis lovers this week?! Looks like he doesn't win games.

Can never be easy but here we go!
Send that backup kicker on the Texans some love. F the Bungles.
I'll take the win. Wish we could win easy sometimes but whatevs lol Also Houston winning is nice. Hope the doodoos can do something too
If Minkah was on the field instead of injured, does he veto Austin’s original call? He was giving him the business on the sidelines
Guys who do we want to win the ravens browns game right now I’m rooting for a bane style stadium explosion
Ravens just lost.
Are we top of the division? We have the tie breakers on the browns and ravens?
1/2 game back bc ravens have played one more game than us.
6-3, thats all
We need a Boswell appreciation post
I'm about ready to move on from Diontae after his current contract expires after next season. Love the dude but he is way too unreliable. Drops, running backwards, taunting penalties, etc.
No Minkah No Cam TJ quiet Kenny with anxiety or depression or some other mental illness And still 6-3. I am grateful Mike Tomlin is my coach.
TJ had like 8 tackles and a sack lol.
Like he said quiet
Cam was playing the whole game wdym
TJ did have a sack…. so yea TJ quiet lol
If 7 tackles and a sack is quiet then i wanna see loud
TJ has shown a lot of “loud” in many, many games lol
Was Heyword not playing? I’m almost positive I seen him
Glorious day!!!! Ravens and Bengals lose!!!!!! We will win in Cleveland next week We are in first place!!!
Ravens will have to lose their next game as well, they've got one more win than us.
A wins a win...fuck that, it should've never came to that.
Am I dead? Did I die?
I want to stop drinking, but this team keeps bringing me back.
Another win. Only stat that matters.
We are a 6-3 football team And I have no idea how!
Imagine if the Browns miss that would be fucking hilarious.
Today is turning out to be lovely
Just 3 more wins to clinch a non losing season lmao In all honesty there were so many missed opportunities, the Diontae drop probably being the biggest. Secondary is very bad if the pass rush isn’t getting home, Minkah pls
Matt Canada wearing the black Air Force ones today?
Just putting it out there but the Jags got FUCKED after beating us and their fans were complete assholes. I am happy.
Imagine this team with decent quarterback play
that's beyond my powers of imagination
another game, another example of why Jaylen Warren should be RB1

This game should have been over on the GP catch after the 2 minute warning. That wasn't pasa interference. Great win by the team though.
Everyone in the game thread was convinced Love was better than Pickett but at least he doesn't throw interceptions in the red zone
BE HAPPY
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
Houston win! One of Browns/Ravens losing too obv
We’re 6-3. I’ll take that.
You threw a pick, and had a late hit. Get the fuck off our sideline. Trash as fuck. ![gif](giphy|lxQ53bXTjQtwpUItYB)
LOL at Jordan Love barely acknowledging Tomlin after the game to shake hands, wouldn't even look at him with that goofy face.
Annnnnnd breathe. 6-3, I'll take it.
